Learning to love yourself by not hating those who hurt you

Learning to love yourself by not hating those who hurt you

If you’ve my book Your Worthy body, you met my friend Camisha Broussard in Chapter 4 entitled She has THE Perfect Body. In that chapter I dig into body image differences in Black women and white women. I had enormous help from Camisha in writing this chapter and I truly do call it “our” chapter.

One of the journeys Camisha and I have taken together is that of writing our first book. Camisha’s memoir, Daddy Issues, released about a month ago and I wanted to bring her on to share her experience of having an absent father. We talk about this some, but Daddy Issues is not a list of grievances against her father, but rather a book about loving herself by not hating her father.

We talk about her relationship with her dad, her mom, whom I just fell in love with, and herself as she navigates having an absent father who chose to be that way. She offers some powerful stories and lessons we can all learn from regardless of our own experiences.

We discuss:

  • Camisha's broken relationship with her father
  • The strength of her mother and her influence
  • The impact of a father choosing to be absent
  • Her message of hope and encouragement for those who have had a father choose to not be involved
