How to protect your brain from memory decline

How to protect your brain from memory decline

Have you ever heard a song on the radio or your playlist by your favorite band but can’t remember the lead singer’s name? Or perhaps walked into a room and wondered why you went in there in the first place? As I’ve gotten older, I have more instances of these and admit I wonder sometimes if I’m losing my memory. I know I’m not the only one.

Today’s conversation with Dr. Richard Harris helps me uncover what is a natural progression of the aging and how to discern between that and more concerning cognitive issues like dementia. He educates me on the importance of sleep, nutrition, movement, and surprises me with his approach to using mobile technology to look up information. He also gives best practices on keeping our brain sharp as long as possible.

We discuss

  • Dr. Harris’ personal experience with dementia
  • APOE4 gene and what it tells us
  • What the natural progression of our brain is as we age
  • How to discern between recall issues and true memory loss
  • How stress affects our memory
  • The effect (and side effect) of our mobile technology on our memory
  • General signs of cognitive decline
  • The role of food and exercise in our cognitive health
  • The difference between dementia and Alzheimer’s
  • Best practices for keeping our brain as sharp as possible
  • The importance of continuing to develop our brain and memory
