Finding urban beats and joy in U-Jam World Fitness: A conversation with Jennifer Breedlove

Finding urban beats and joy in U-Jam World Fitness: A conversation with Jennifer Breedlove

Welcome to season 7 of the Graced Health podcast, In Our Cultures.

This season you will hear from several people who have different cultures of origin than I do. I think it's important to learn and discover these as we are all made in the image of God.  And as Maya Angelou said, we are more alike than we are unalike.

Today I am having the first of these conversations with Jennifer Breedlove. Jennifer shares with me her journey of finding who she is, her health, and becoming an instructor for U-Jam  World of Dance Fitness. We also chat about body image within the Black community and how her experience as a Black woman is different than mine as a white.

I know you'll find Jennifer inspiring and we'll be able to see the beauty within her as we talked.

We discuss:

  • Her journey to becoming finding who she is, health, and becoming a fitness professional
  • Peace, love, unity, and acceptance in U-Jam World of Dance Fitness.
  • What to expect the first time your walk into a U-Jam class.
  • Finding natural highs and rewards in moving together as a group.
  • The influence of beauty and body image of women in the Black community.
  • Celebrating our differences through social media.
  • The foundation of a healthy body image.
  • The impact of the words we hear growing up and how what we say impacts our children.
  • Focusing on the ways we positive ways our body.
