How to prepare (and keep a pulse on) your child's mental health as they launch into their next season

How to prepare (and keep a pulse on) your child's mental health as they launch into their next season

If you have a child who is launching this year or in the next few years, pull out your notes and get ready. My guest today, Connecticut-based Licensed Clinical Social Worker Elissa Costello, brings applicable tools, resources, and provides wonderful direction for parents who are getting ready to send their child off into their next chapter. At one point I told her I could feel my shoulders relaxing about the whole process, as I’m sending my firstborn off into the world in a year. And then she has such beautiful words of encouragement that I got tears in my eyes.

We discuss:
- How we can set the stage for a successful launch
- How to help build a bridge to communicate even with children who don't open up as much
- The important question to ask before they leave
- How COVID has changed the landscape of mental health and how it relates to the collegiate experience
- Common mental health challenges young adults face when they leave home the first time
- The 3-2-1 approach in communicating with your child.
- Managing the balance between letting your child fly without letting them fall too far
