Even before Pino Palladino became a driving force on albums by D'Angelo, John Mayer, and others, he and his fretless bass shaped sounds. In a clip for his Questlove Supreme interview, Pino recalls his journey from making $50 a week and sleeping on couches to helping guide hit records by Paul Young and Chris de Burgh. In the discussion, the evolution includes critical intersections with Jools Holland of Squeeze, Gary Numan, and Pink Floyd's David Gilmour. Pino ultimately reveals that his 20-year history was unknown to D'Angelo when they crossed paths for Voodoo — meeting on the same day he was introduced to Questlove.
