#49 A Question to End Each Day
In this episode, Roy and Catherine ask what question ends your day. Catherine has two. The practical one is what she is doing tomorrow, which she checks or sets so she knows where her focus will go. The one she asks while winding down is how she feels about her day and her life, and whether things feel right. If something doesn’t, she uses a technique she was taught years ago called dream programming. She relaxes in bed, reflects briefly, then drops a request into her subconscious, such as asking it to resolve this overnight or give her clarity for the morning, and lets it go. She often wakes up with clarity, or a sense that something has resolved itself on a deeper level during the night. Roy says he does something similar when he wants an answer, but rarely, since he is usually crashing at the end of the day. He used to write his to-do list the night before and now sometimes writes it that morning, waking up naturally early and getting things done. He sometimes reflects on whether he enjoyed his day, but most of his thinking and strategising about his businesses happens while out on a walk, not at a set time at night. Catherine adds that with clients working on a gradual shift, they sometimes agree a specific end-of-day question tied to that project, so they notice subtle changes day to day, and she has made that a discipline for herself when working on something for a period of time.

[Speaker 2] (0:02 - 0:18)
Welcome to episode number 49 of Different Points. I'm joined with my co-host Catherine Llewellyn and I'm Roy Collins and today's question is a question to end each day. Catherine, what question ends your day?
[Speaker 1] (0:20 - 2:24)
It kind of varies but I always have the question is what am I doing tomorrow? I always take a little bit of time. I might already be clear about it or just to remind myself or sometimes I look at the day and think, great, what am I going to focus on tomorrow?
So that's always a question. But I think the question that I ask myself when I'm winding down to go to sleep is the question of how do I feel about my day and how do I feel about my life? Do things feel right or do they not feel right?
And I just ask myself that question. And someone taught me something years ago which was called dream programming and it's where you can kind of drop a question or a request into your subconscious just before you go to sleep. And it's very simple.
You're just lying there, you relax and you just say, you know, if for some reason things don't feel quite right, I'll just reflect on that a little bit and then give it to my subconscious just by saying, please resolve this for me in the night or please give me some clarity for the morning or something like that. And I just drop it in and just let it go and go to sleep. And then very often in the morning I'll wake up and either I've got some sort of clarity or just a feeling that something has changed and resolved itself on the kind of inner mysterious levels of me during the night.
So I suppose, you know, questions in the day, I've got the sort of kind of practical one and what am I doing next day? And the other one is, um, how do I feel about my day? How do I feel about my life?
Do things feel right? And then from that, I might drop a little question or request into the deeper layers before I go to sleep.
[Speaker 2] (2:26 - 3:29)
Excellent. Yeah. I kind of, I do what you've said, kind of going to sleep sometimes if there's something that I'd like an answer on.
Yeah. You can put that in, but rarely, usually I'm kind of crashing down and I'm not thinking or asking myself a question. What I tend to do is just kind of get done what I want to and then I'm happy enough.
And yeah, there used to be a time where I'd make my list the night before, but sometimes I'll do it like today. So today being Monday, that's what I've done. I just decided, okay, what, what's the important things that I need to do?
And I just made a list and I wake up naturally, early anyway, and just started getting, getting the things done. But regarding question at the end of the day, sometimes I'd reflect on my day. Did I enjoy my day?
But I think when I'm going for a walk, that's when I'm kind of thinking as well. It's not necessarily at the end of the day, it's kind of just kind of planning in my head, what I'm doing, the businesses I'm doing, how we can strategize. So not really necessarily a question at the end of the day.
[Speaker 1] (3:29 - 4:22)
Yeah. Yeah. I want to add one quick thing, which is sometimes with clients, sometimes they're working on something which is going to kind of incrementally shift across day to day.
And then sometimes together we'll, we'll come up with specific questions. They're going to ask themselves at the end of each day that relates specifically to what they're working on, because for them, they want to kind of notice subtle changes each day as they go in relation to something specific. So that's a, you know, sometimes it's useful to have something that relates to a specific shift you're making or project or something that you're working on.
That can be very, very useful. And I've done that in the past when there's a particular thing I'm working on for a period of time. And then I make that more into a bit of a discipline.
[Speaker 2] (4:25 - 4:38)
I'm just curious what the listeners want. Do you ask yourself a question at the end of the day? Let us know.
We'd love to read your comments. And yeah, if you could give us a thumbs up, subscribe and share with your friends, it really helps. Until the next episode, take care.
