#37 Resilience in Uncertain Times
In this episode, Roy and Catherine take on resilience in uncertain times and how to recover. Catherine starts by questioning the premise, pointing out that life itself is inherently uncertain since she’s an organic being, not a machine, and that when people talk about “uncertain times” they usually mean something external, like not knowing when a war will end. Her view is that the goal isn’t to recover from uncertainty, it’s to live inside it fully and feel it, because she believes uncertainty exists to help us grow, and chasing certainty misses the point. She ties this to her own experience during the UK’s roughly three-year Covid lockdown period, when she felt constantly drained by the collective energy of it and had to adapt by limiting herself to four or five hours of work a day and sleeping nine or ten hours a night just to stay functional, rather than sliding into resentment, fear and panic. For her, resilience means tuning into both the meaning of the uncertainty and what her body actually needs, rest, more protein, whatever it is, rather than reaching for a single fixed answer. Roy connects this to his own experience losing everything financially and rebuilding from a place of sovereignty, and to the roughly four years of lockdowns, during which he refused to comply, started independently researching PCR test sales data going back to 2017, and dug into what was being injected, while staying on good terms with friends who believed the opposite, since he never saw it as worth ending relationships over differing belief systems. He applies the same approach to business shocks, like losing ad platform access in Europe overnight, the lesson being to adjust fast without self-pity, stay calm instead of panicking, since panic (which he sees media and official messaging as pushing) clouds thinking, and basic tools like breathing and walking are what actually let you recover from whatever curveball comes next.

#37 Resilience in uncertain times
[Speaker 1]
Welcome to episode number 37 of Diff'rent Points. I'm joined with my co-host Catherine Llewellyn and I'm Roy Collin and today's question is resilience in uncertain times, how do you recover? So Catherine, how do you recover?
[Speaker 2]
Well, I think the words uncertain times are the clue because I think there's uncertain times in terms of, you know, life is uncertain, my life is uncertain, I'm an organic being, I'm not a machine, you know, so my life is uncertain. So there's uncertain times in my own life and then often when people say uncertain times what they mean is, you know, when is the war with Iran going to end? We don't know, you know, that's what they mean by uncertain times.
So I actually think that recovering from uncertain, actually, I think the clue for me is not to recover from uncertain times, it's to live the uncertain times fully, to feel the uncertainty on uncertain times when that's what's happening. I think often we have too much emphasis on trying to get away from the uncertainty, feel better and have certainty and I think that's not the answer because I believe there's a purpose to uncertainty, I believe the purpose of it is to help us grow, so the way we relate to what's happening in the world or the uncertainty in our own lives is really, really important and full of possibility. So having said that, I did notice during the Covid regime years here in the UK, which lasted for about three years, I seem to remember, I was so tired so much of the time, I was really, I felt kind of barraged by the overall energy and vibration of the whole thing and it was just very, very tiring for me and I had to adapt, I had to recognise I could only do four or five hours of work a day and I needed to sleep nine or ten hours at night every night, that's just what I had to do just to be me, just not to get trapped into a horrible poisonous little mess on the carpet of resentment and fear and panic.
So for me, there's the relationship with the uncertainty, welcoming the uncertainty and seeing meaning in it but there's also the thing of what's actually going on in my body, do I need to rest, do I need to eat more protein is another one for me and women my age, you know, there's things we have to do to just take care of ourselves when we're dealing with uncertainty. So I feel like it's, there's not a short answer, it's always a different answer but you get the answer by tuning into the nature of the uncertainty and what's actually happening in your body.
[Speaker 1]
When I hear that one, I think one, that I've mentioned a few times about the financial loss that I went through losing everything but coming out of it the other way, kind of getting into sovereignty and being stronger and the other one you mentioned about, you know, when everybody was locked down, I think it was four years, not three and, you know, some people not going to the school and I didn't comply to it, I started studying it straight away, I started seeing that they were selling the PCR tests in the multi-millions across the world in 2017, so I was able to put two and two together very fast and didn't comply with all masks and stuff like that but then I started studying about the things that they were trying to inject into us and went even back further and through that learned how dangerous that is but I have friends that they thought everything was right, I wasn't one of the people that fought and walked away from them, we could have a laugh and a joke, you have a different belief system, this is the path you choose, I have this path but unlike most people they kind of fight and never talk to each other again, that wasn't my style and I think you have to accept other people's belief system from the way that they actually learn things and even in business, like with the podcast I'm doing, I was doing the ads and everything in Europe and then they just made a ruling and the platform just emailed, oh we're no longer working here and I just turned off the tap straight away and, you know, you can cry, but what I've learned is no matter whether it's a short one or a big thing like the Covid and stuff like that, just adjust but don't beat yourself up, don't be going, oh poor me, because everybody's going through it and it's like if you can remain calm you'll do it a lot faster and a lot better whereas if you're in panic which is what they want with all the media propaganda, you're not thinking clearly, you're not living properly, so it's like take a breath, do breath work, take a walk and by doing that then you'll be able to recover for whatever curveball you get thrown in life.
[Speaker 2]
Beautiful, thank you.
