#32 What Success Really Looks Like
In this episode, Roy and Catherine reflect on how their own definitions of success have shifted with age. Roy shares how success once meant assets, achievements, and places he'd traveled — but now means being a good son, a good father, and living in a way that never comes at someone else's expense, becoming mission-driven rather than life-driven, where a real purpose brings everything together for the benefit of others, even people he'll never meet. Catherine traces a similar evolution — from asking whether she's contributing something that matters, to a deeper question of how she's actually showing up in the world: her energy, her presence, and how aligned her daily life is with what she feels truly called to do. She shares a phrase that came out of a recent conversation with ChatGPT — that life is saying to us "come and play" — and describes success as those moments of being fully in that zone, playful and free of ego, peace of mind, and feeling at one with herself, others, and the world. They close with a reminder that success doesn't have to look like anyone else's version of it — only your own.

Welcome to Different Points episode 32 with my co-host Roy Colan and myself Catherine Llewellyn. Today's topic is what success really looks like. How do you define success? Roy, how do you define success? I think it's evolved over the years.
I think before the younger person would be thinking that it's what you've built up, the assets you've achieved, maybe the different places you've gone. Now I think success is being a good son, being a good father and just doing the right for humanity that you're not out to hurt anyone else or do anything that to your benefit they're decreasing, that it's always for the positivity of the world I would say and to me that's success. It's like because then you're more mission driven as opposed to life driven and just I must do this, I must get here, I must have this house, I must have this care, I must have this thing, I must do there and instead of just kind of having a purpose that makes everything come together for the betterment of everyone you know and even those you don't and that to me is success.
Beautiful. I think I'm not completely dissimilar, you know I've got that feeling of for me success is am I actually contributing something you know that matters and but then there's been the question of well how do I contribute something that matters and as I've got older more and more that's been about how am I showing up in the world, what's my energy like, what's my presence like and how aligned is it so am I in the way I'm being and what I'm doing, how I'm spending my time and how I'm living, how much is that all in alignment with you know my truth, what I feel called to be doing, you know does it all fit together so do I have that feeling of peace of mind, feeling at one with myself, feeling at one with the universe, feeling at one with other people, feeling that beyond kind of personal agenda or irritations or reactions or ego issues or you know greed or envy or any of those things so it's a it's kind of changed for me over the years and I for me one of the elements of that is I was working on some marketing content the other day with chatGPT and one of the things that we came to was that this phrase of what does life say to us and it asked me and my answer to that was come and play, that life is saying to us come and play so I feel it's part of my job if I want to be contributing to be responding to that invitation and coming and playing in life not in a frivolous way but in a way of really enjoying life appreciating life in a spirit of play and no ego attachment now that's quite high state and I would say it's something I aspire to and sometimes I get there but that's to me success is when I am in those moments in that kind of zone mode of being is to me what success looks like. Beautiful.
So thank you everybody what does success look like for you and you know Roy and I have just said what it looks like for us for you it may look like something completely different and personally I believe that whatever it looks like for us is what we should go for rather than trying to go for what we think someone else thinks success should look like for us you know so let's all go for the success that that really matters to us that we believe in so thank you for listening and watching and please tell your friends and give us a nice review if you have a moment because that really helps show have a wonderful day take care and we'll see you next time. Take care.
