In this episode of Different Points, Roy Coughlan and Catherine Llewellyn get personal about what truly drives them. Speaker 1] (0:02 - 0:38)
Welcome to Different Points, episode 12, with me, Catherine Llewellyn, and my wonderful host, Roy Colan. So thank you everybody for coming back to listen and join us one more time. So this time, we're talking about finding your deeper calling.
Finding your deeper calling. So we're going to talk about that for a few minutes. But also while we're talking about it, you might find yourself kind of mulling over what's your deeper calling?
Have you found it already? Are you following it? Because those are the questions around it, really.
So, Roy, what is your deeper calling?
[Speaker 2] (0:39 - 2:25)
It's an interesting one, because I mentioned it about my kind of wipeout, financial wipeout. When I got things kind of going, I went to an event, and it was in Mexico with A-Fest. It was an A-Fest event in Cancun.
And it was what's your quest? And when I was there, I had that kind of, what is my quest in life? And for me, it was exposing the fraud and corruption.
And then it was, I didn't like public speaking. So I said, I have to overcome my fear of public speaking. So I backed on all the, you know, became a distinguished hostmaster in three years.
But then with all the different things I'm doing, like the speaking, it was to help people become better speakers, because I had a fear of speaking, and I wanted to help with that with the meditation, find the calmness with the crypto. So all of the shows that I'm doing is a deeper calling to make people better. Like even I've helped people do anxiety podcasts as well, or people helping with mindfulness.
And all the stuff is just to, if you change someone's life, then you might never know, they might never come back and say to you, but you're not only helping him or her, you're helping their household, their family, the whole long, and it's a ripple effect. So it's like, deeper calling for me is do the right thing for a better world and just kind of work with people for a better world. So I'm never doing something like regarding gambling or tobacco products or McDonald's or anything like that, even though they're the ones that would throw money at you.
It's a case of do the things that are right for things that are better. And you inspire the people around you, but also your kids as well. And life, you don't crawl out of bed, you jump out of bed with a mission.
[Speaker 1] (2:26 - 4:44)
Beautiful. I think my first memory that relates to this is when I was six years old. And in those days, it was the early 1960s in southern England, right?
So you'd be in these sort of adult afternoon tea parties where people are eating, you know, pineapple and cheese on a stick and stuff like that. And so you're standing there and looking up at all these adults, and there are other children around watching them and listening to them and thinking, why is not a single person in this room saying what they really mean? Why is all these adults just talking nonsense to each other?
And why do they not seem happy? Why do they seem like they're trying to be somebody they're not? You know, and I was at the age of six looking at this and going, what on earth is going on?
So my first thing was, I want to understand more about what it is to be human and to be happy. I just wanted to understand. And then as time went on, through all sorts of experiences, I realized that what I was most interested in, in that was consciousness, you know, the quality of consciousness of awareness and connection and openness and that sort of internal quality of aliveness that we have.
And I was got very, very interested in that. And I thought, that is where the solution lies to all of the problems of humanity, that level of consciousness, you know, if we were all really conscious and aware, we wouldn't need to have wars, there's so much stuff we just wouldn't need to do. So now, years later, my calling is to help other people who are interested in that and helping people with that, do that, because I've been doing it for a long time.
Like you Roy, you coach podcasters, because you've been doing podcasting a long time, so you can coach podcasters. So I now coach leaders and practitioners who are helping people raise their consciousness and be more aware and be more on the solution. So my calling has kind of evolved from the six year old to the, I'm not going to tell you how old, over time.
[Speaker 2] (4:46 - 4:48)
And my calling is my name, Roy Carlin.
[Speaker 1] (4:51 - 5:25)
Excellent. Brilliant. So everybody, the thing about the other thing I've learned about deeper calling is that actually most of us are already following our calling.
But we may not realise it. So if you think that you're on the wrong path, you're probably not, you're probably on the right path. But you probably don't, you might not understand what path you're on.
Or maybe you do and you are following your calling. So it's a great thing to meditate on for the next 24 hours, and then come back and listen to our next topic. So thanks, everyone.
And thank you so much, Roy.
[Speaker 2] (5:26 - 5:26)
Thank you, Catherine.
