1
00:00:00.760 --> 00:00:03.600
First on film and entertainment, Get it all and with

2
00:00:03.799 --> 00:00:07.839
me today, Sandy Kay and Peter Kraus. The others have

3
00:00:07.879 --> 00:00:12.480
deserted us so highly reliant upon your good Gray, Sandy

4
00:00:12.759 --> 00:00:14.919
and Peter, you're a calcil trends.

5
00:00:14.960 --> 00:00:15.480
Is that all right?

6
00:00:16.120 --> 00:00:19.280
Web calc trad as always.

7
00:00:18.839 --> 00:00:21.440
I'd be very disappointed otherwise, Sandy, we're going to bring

8
00:00:21.480 --> 00:00:23.199
sanity into this conversation. Correct.

9
00:00:23.320 --> 00:00:27.440
I think I'm not known for that, but okay, I'll try, Yeah,

10
00:00:27.760 --> 00:00:28.519
be a level best.

11
00:00:28.559 --> 00:00:31.079
It's all right, we'll sort of battle through it all

12
00:00:31.280 --> 00:00:34.240
with just three rather than what five of us. Having

13
00:00:34.320 --> 00:00:41.280
said that, these are the days of awe before the Oscars, right,

14
00:00:41.439 --> 00:00:44.079
we're talking about literally a day before. But that's okay.

15
00:00:44.640 --> 00:00:47.719
This is when it's everyone's a winner. Right. It's kind

16
00:00:47.719 --> 00:00:50.359
of like before the football season starts. Sandy, you know

17
00:00:50.719 --> 00:00:53.280
every one of the eighteen teams you're not.

18
00:00:53.240 --> 00:00:57.039
Going to the football Please spare I shall, yes.

19
00:00:57.280 --> 00:01:00.000
The Mighty Bombers. How many times can I insert as

20
00:01:00.079 --> 00:01:05.599
andration O Wooden spooners? Ay? Ay, that's Richmond this year.

21
00:01:05.920 --> 00:01:11.319
Having having said that, it is an exciting time and

22
00:01:11.359 --> 00:01:14.519
of course Nova has a big event each year, does

23
00:01:14.560 --> 00:01:17.799
it not? Peter and what do you I don't attend.

24
00:01:17.879 --> 00:01:21.359
I watched by myself. Actually I like to make notes

25
00:01:21.400 --> 00:01:23.719
and so on in that context. But you know I'm

26
00:01:23.719 --> 00:01:26.799
anti social. So what does that say about? Well, it's

27
00:01:26.799 --> 00:01:30.040
about it's a special event for the media, isn't it

28
00:01:30.040 --> 00:01:30.359
it is.

29
00:01:30.439 --> 00:01:31.560
I'll be there on Monday.

30
00:01:32.319 --> 00:01:37.079
Well yeah, and being tomorrow. So having said that, do

31
00:01:37.120 --> 00:01:39.079
you get Nibley's and all that sort of stuff as well?

32
00:01:39.519 --> 00:01:42.200
We get two drinks and a snack box for thirty

33
00:01:42.239 --> 00:01:43.200
three dollars.

34
00:01:43.760 --> 00:01:46.280
And a snackpot And what is the is the snack

35
00:01:46.319 --> 00:01:48.079
box full of healthy food? Peter?

36
00:01:49.200 --> 00:01:52.480
I would say probably not, but I mean big deal.

37
00:01:54.560 --> 00:01:56.560
Yeah, lashing out there you go, sanity. Have you ever

38
00:01:56.599 --> 00:01:57.480
been to Nova.

39
00:01:57.359 --> 00:02:00.439
To the Well, I've been to Nova, but I certainly

40
00:02:00.439 --> 00:02:03.159
haven't been to this event. And I have to say

41
00:02:03.359 --> 00:02:07.879
I missed out on an invitation. So what can you do?

42
00:02:08.479 --> 00:02:11.479
Oh well, I'm sure that have you, Sandy? That everybody?

43
00:02:11.479 --> 00:02:13.639
What have you? You're the life of the party. It's

44
00:02:13.680 --> 00:02:17.000
just a question of being invited, right, So let.

45
00:02:17.439 --> 00:02:19.280
You can't be the life of the party if you're

46
00:02:19.280 --> 00:02:20.439
not invited to attend.

47
00:02:20.960 --> 00:02:23.759
Well, that's true, that's true. Like maybe maybe we can

48
00:02:23.840 --> 00:02:27.080
change that in the future, who knows. I wanted to

49
00:02:27.400 --> 00:02:30.000
make some general remarks about what these are the ninety

50
00:02:30.000 --> 00:02:34.919
seventh Academy Awards. Now obviously a lot more inclusive than

51
00:02:34.960 --> 00:02:37.280
they have been in years gone by. I mean, the

52
00:02:37.360 --> 00:02:40.439
last what three four years have been much more inclusive.

53
00:02:40.919 --> 00:02:44.639
There are a number of Australians that feature, and I

54
00:02:44.680 --> 00:02:47.400
always like the quirkies, and so there are a few

55
00:02:47.479 --> 00:02:52.520
quirky bits and pieces. So maybe we'll start there. Let's

56
00:02:53.560 --> 00:02:56.479
this is my pick for Best Picture and Best Director,

57
00:02:56.520 --> 00:03:00.599
and we've known that for some time, and also Best Actor.

58
00:03:01.000 --> 00:03:04.840
But it's two hundred and fifteen minutes long, excluding the

59
00:03:04.879 --> 00:03:08.599
interval of fifteen twenty minutes whatever it is, But that

60
00:03:08.800 --> 00:03:12.879
makes it the fifth longest Best Picture nominee of all time.

61
00:03:13.280 --> 00:03:16.919
Now I haven't pre prepared the other two, but I'm

62
00:03:16.960 --> 00:03:20.199
going to pose this question to both of you, and

63
00:03:20.240 --> 00:03:23.719
we're only talking about those pictures that have been nominated

64
00:03:23.919 --> 00:03:27.199
for Best Film in the history of the Oscars. What

65
00:03:27.439 --> 00:03:31.000
have been the longest? There are four others? Would you

66
00:03:31.199 --> 00:03:32.800
like to hazard a guess, either of you?

67
00:03:33.439 --> 00:03:39.599
Laurence of Arabia in fact, no, no, okay, Gone with

68
00:03:39.639 --> 00:03:44.000
the Wind, Yes, that's that second Prize at two hundred

69
00:03:44.039 --> 00:03:46.240
and thirty eight minutes, so we're doing it.

70
00:03:47.319 --> 00:03:49.520
Gone Gone with the Wind, and we've got the Brutal

71
00:03:49.520 --> 00:03:53.280
List at two fifteen being number five, so there's still

72
00:03:53.280 --> 00:03:55.039
one better than Gone with the Wind in terms of

73
00:03:55.120 --> 00:03:59.800
running time. Nomine Patrick, very good, that's it two and

74
00:03:59.800 --> 00:04:03.840
four eight minutes. Now the other two, so I'll go

75
00:04:04.000 --> 00:04:07.360
up the Brutalist the Ten Commandments at two hundred and

76
00:04:07.400 --> 00:04:11.840
twenty minutes, Lawrence of Arabia at two twenty two, Gone

77
00:04:11.879 --> 00:04:14.360
with the Wind at two thirty eight, and Cleopatra at

78
00:04:14.360 --> 00:04:18.160
two forty eight. There you go. Trivial pursuit questions. Okay,

79
00:04:18.879 --> 00:04:21.279
if you look at the there are ten nominations for

80
00:04:21.360 --> 00:04:24.920
Best Picture this year, sany Now, if you put them

81
00:04:25.319 --> 00:04:30.319
one after another, that makes it the longest Best Picture

82
00:04:30.360 --> 00:04:34.720
lineup ever. It runs for twenty four hours and forty

83
00:04:34.759 --> 00:04:37.920
five minutes. Who says movies are not too long? Peter,

84
00:04:38.920 --> 00:04:43.759
I do, right, and there you go. But this is

85
00:04:43.800 --> 00:04:46.839
the longest in the history of the Oscars. Now, hopefully

86
00:04:46.879 --> 00:04:49.519
the ceremony isn't the longest in the history of the Oscars,

87
00:04:49.560 --> 00:04:51.720
because that's one thing a lot of people complain about.

88
00:04:51.759 --> 00:04:55.240
Do they not be to some extent, but Colin and O'Brien,

89
00:04:55.319 --> 00:04:57.759
i'm sure will have some funny things to say to

90
00:04:57.800 --> 00:05:00.240
make the event watchable.

91
00:05:00.319 --> 00:05:02.480
I'll tell you what it's a It's a hard it's

92
00:05:02.519 --> 00:05:04.759
a hard road to hope because it doesn't matter how

93
00:05:04.800 --> 00:05:07.920
clever you are, you can you can be found out,

94
00:05:07.959 --> 00:05:11.160
can't you? I mean need this sort of environment and

95
00:05:11.199 --> 00:05:13.879
not everything goes down well?

96
00:05:15.120 --> 00:05:17.920
And terms can you watch it here on Monday night?

97
00:05:18.600 --> 00:05:19.000
Pardon me?

98
00:05:19.439 --> 00:05:22.120
Where can you watch it? In Australia on Monday night?

99
00:05:22.519 --> 00:05:26.040
Ten o seven? It's Live to Wear at eleven o'clock

100
00:05:26.279 --> 00:05:30.079
and then repeated at ten o'clock PM.

101
00:05:30.639 --> 00:05:33.920
Oh awesome, Okay, that's great, Thanks for telling us that.

102
00:05:34.839 --> 00:05:36.839
Can I just tell you which of the nominations for

103
00:05:36.879 --> 00:05:37.879
Best Picture of the ten?

104
00:05:39.160 --> 00:05:41.480
We'll get there. And I just want to go through

105
00:05:41.519 --> 00:05:43.360
a bit more trivia, not not that I'm trying to

106
00:05:43.360 --> 00:05:46.519
closere Are you love your trivia? Alex go far trivia?

107
00:05:46.600 --> 00:05:46.759
Right?

108
00:05:46.800 --> 00:05:53.199
Okay? So okay? Now the ray Fines, who has been

109
00:05:53.240 --> 00:05:58.279
nominated for Conclave as Best Actor twenty twenty eight years

110
00:05:58.319 --> 00:06:03.199
after his first nomination for Which movie Peter ray Fines

111
00:06:03.240 --> 00:06:05.040
think about it? Ah?

112
00:06:05.160 --> 00:06:07.439
Goodness? Do you have to think about it.

113
00:06:07.639 --> 00:06:10.360
Yeah, so go back twenty eight years. I mean, that's

114
00:06:10.360 --> 00:06:12.199
the blink of an I for you when you were

115
00:06:12.240 --> 00:06:14.680
born in about when when Adam was a boy. So

116
00:06:15.040 --> 00:06:18.720
you know, I know it's like yesterday. So a very

117
00:06:18.759 --> 00:06:21.959
well known film that not everybody appreciated, I've got to say.

118
00:06:22.480 --> 00:06:26.720
And it's a three word title which you have to

119
00:06:26.759 --> 00:06:28.120
be patient to endure.

120
00:06:28.959 --> 00:06:30.079
Oh the English patient?

121
00:06:30.319 --> 00:06:34.519
Yeah exactly. Yeah. So now that makes him the second

122
00:06:34.639 --> 00:06:38.560
that's the second largest gap in the category, after whom Peter,

123
00:06:39.040 --> 00:06:45.399
after whom. Right, that's that's a harder that's a harder question.

124
00:06:46.079 --> 00:06:48.120
This is this is when we need Greg because he's

125
00:06:48.120 --> 00:06:51.959
a trivial pursuit buff right yeah, yeah.

126
00:06:51.639 --> 00:06:55.720
So you know, no idea, You just here to embarrass

127
00:06:55.800 --> 00:06:58.399
me and Peter, are you alstra hell?

128
00:06:58.600 --> 00:06:59.199
Female?

129
00:07:00.199 --> 00:07:03.399
It's a male. That's correct though, and you're right absolutely,

130
00:07:03.839 --> 00:07:04.399
I've injuc.

131
00:07:05.160 --> 00:07:08.959
I'm glad you're targeting Peter though not me, is it,

132
00:07:09.120 --> 00:07:11.600
Daniel day Lewis, No, No, it's not.

133
00:07:11.959 --> 00:07:17.920
He was but a boy Henry Fonda and ah, yes,

134
00:07:18.279 --> 00:07:26.120
one year gap right right? Okay, So now it's the

135
00:07:26.160 --> 00:07:30.279
first Brazilian film, of course, to be given a Best

136
00:07:30.519 --> 00:07:35.800
Film Oscar not at least or gong or nomination. So

137
00:07:35.879 --> 00:07:39.639
that's that's important thing. And okay, let's look at a

138
00:07:39.680 --> 00:07:44.959
complete unknown Timothy Shalla May, the twelfth person to receive

139
00:07:44.959 --> 00:07:51.600
an Oscar nomination for somebody who has oh might guess what?

140
00:07:51.759 --> 00:07:56.839
My notes have suddenly disappeared from the screen. It is shocking.

141
00:07:57.240 --> 00:07:59.079
You might have to live like the rest of us.

142
00:07:59.079 --> 00:08:04.920
Then, oh no, okay, so well, okay, so let's go

143
00:08:04.959 --> 00:08:08.600
to Fernando Torres, the second Brazilian nominated for an acting Oscar,

144
00:08:09.160 --> 00:08:14.480
and the other one was Fernanda Montenegro. Right, yes, and

145
00:08:15.639 --> 00:08:18.120
the two of them joined Judy Garland and Eliza Minelli

146
00:08:18.319 --> 00:08:21.959
as the only mother and daughter nominated for best Actress.

147
00:08:23.399 --> 00:08:26.040
There you go to that. Okay, that was that went

148
00:08:26.079 --> 00:08:27.000
down like a lead balloon.

149
00:08:28.079 --> 00:08:28.519
Could have.

150
00:08:30.560 --> 00:08:31.639
Sorry, what was that? Sandy?

151
00:08:32.279 --> 00:08:34.639
I really could have lived without that information, are you?

152
00:08:35.399 --> 00:08:35.559
Yes?

153
00:08:37.480 --> 00:08:40.320
I'm losing this war very well. Hang on, I'm now

154
00:08:40.399 --> 00:08:42.960
going I'm now going back to try and find the

155
00:08:43.039 --> 00:08:47.120
other I reckon, this is great. Somebody must have done

156
00:08:47.120 --> 00:08:49.480
a lot of hard work to actually come up with

157
00:08:49.519 --> 00:08:53.799
these these trivial facts. But don't don't most of us

158
00:08:53.840 --> 00:08:54.320
like trivia.

159
00:08:54.440 --> 00:08:57.960
I mean, I'm just because that's what.

160
00:08:58.159 --> 00:09:01.600
Yeah, can I just say one quick thing, The French

161
00:09:01.799 --> 00:09:06.399
Bizarre Academy Awards have just been announced and Amelia Perez

162
00:09:06.759 --> 00:09:08.000
was the biggest.

163
00:09:07.679 --> 00:09:11.679
Winner that, which doesn't surprise me at all. Yeah, and okay,

164
00:09:11.720 --> 00:09:16.320
so let let me say Amelia Perez received thirty nominations

165
00:09:16.919 --> 00:09:20.720
for the Oscars, the most for any non English language

166
00:09:20.720 --> 00:09:24.480
film in Academy Awards history. I mean, that's that. And

167
00:09:25.360 --> 00:09:29.360
so the previous best was ten, So that's really outstripping it.

168
00:09:29.480 --> 00:09:33.240
And we're talking Roma and Crouching Tiger, Tiger, Hid and Dragon. Now,

169
00:09:33.679 --> 00:09:37.480
for those for those people interested in where I'm getting

170
00:09:37.519 --> 00:09:40.320
this trivia from bad luck, I'm not going to tell you, no, no, no,

171
00:09:42.279 --> 00:09:45.879
it's only fair if you go to next Best Picture

172
00:09:45.960 --> 00:09:49.440
dot com it lists and good on them. Stats and

173
00:09:49.519 --> 00:09:53.440
trivia from the ninety sixth Academy Award nominations by somebody

174
00:09:53.480 --> 00:09:57.440
called Daniel Howard Howat. We're going to credit him with

175
00:09:57.480 --> 00:09:59.919
a lot for having sort of given me all of

176
00:10:00.519 --> 00:10:03.759
So three films received ten or more nominations in this

177
00:10:03.840 --> 00:10:07.679
year's Oscars. Right now you should be able to tell me, Sandy,

178
00:10:07.960 --> 00:10:09.960
one of them at least. Well, I've given you Amelia

179
00:10:10.000 --> 00:10:13.120
Perez what are the others? Right, there's two more?

180
00:10:13.200 --> 00:10:16.639
Can you pull? I can tell you yes, So that's

181
00:10:16.639 --> 00:10:22.080
anist correct yep, and there and with oh Wicked.

182
00:10:22.559 --> 00:10:25.799
Yeah, and that's the fifth time that this has occurred,

183
00:10:26.000 --> 00:10:29.840
dating back to nineteen sixty four. So there you go.

184
00:10:29.919 --> 00:10:35.120
And a couple of people this year received four individual

185
00:10:35.159 --> 00:10:40.279
nominations for the year. That's that's pretty amazing. Sean Baker

186
00:10:40.320 --> 00:10:44.279
and Jacques Audiard are the two. Which is an Jacques

187
00:10:44.279 --> 00:10:49.200
Curdiard for Amelia Perez of course, which we've just talked about. Okay,

188
00:10:49.279 --> 00:10:52.879
so there was that one bit that I'm trying to

189
00:10:53.120 --> 00:10:55.639
move down to. There are so many facts and figures

190
00:10:55.639 --> 00:11:00.600
here it's not funny, and I'm trying to get to now.

191
00:11:00.960 --> 00:11:05.080
Wicked is the fourth film the score ten nominations without

192
00:11:05.120 --> 00:11:07.960
a Best Director nomination, so obviously WI could just took

193
00:11:08.000 --> 00:11:08.679
care of itself.

194
00:11:08.720 --> 00:11:12.240
Peter, Well, it's happened several times. I mean, think of

195
00:11:12.679 --> 00:11:15.799
Driving the s Daisy where Bruce Beresford wasn't nominated.

196
00:11:16.440 --> 00:11:20.440
No, that's true, that's true. Well, and you know the

197
00:11:21.159 --> 00:11:25.679
with with regards to what's her what's her first name? Gascorn?

198
00:11:26.120 --> 00:11:32.879
The is oh, yes, fifth openly queer person nominated for

199
00:11:32.919 --> 00:11:37.559
portraying a queer character pla yeah, yeah, yeah, which so

200
00:11:37.639 --> 00:11:41.960
that that's that's following Jodi Foster in Niad Coleman Demingo

201
00:11:42.039 --> 00:11:46.080
and Audustin, Stephanie Hugh in Everything Everywhere all at once,

202
00:11:46.080 --> 00:11:51.000
an Ian McKellen the Gods and Monsters. So that's that's interesting.

203
00:11:51.440 --> 00:11:54.480
And then Zoe Saldana, who I think is laid down

204
00:11:54.519 --> 00:11:58.279
mosta win Best Supporting Actress. Sird Fro Latino nominated for

205
00:11:58.320 --> 00:12:03.399
Best Supporting Actress, following Perez and Hariana de Bose. So

206
00:12:05.039 --> 00:12:08.480
and yeah, so that's and it's the first time to

207
00:12:08.679 --> 00:12:13.320
Afrotino performers were nominated in the same year because Domingo

208
00:12:13.440 --> 00:12:17.440
was nominated this year as well, Black Actor. Right, Yes,

209
00:12:17.919 --> 00:12:23.039
so there's that, And now I can give you finally

210
00:12:23.159 --> 00:12:25.919
complete the one about Timothy Shallo may twelfth person to

211
00:12:25.960 --> 00:12:29.000
receive an OSCAR nomination for portraying a real life Oscar

212
00:12:29.039 --> 00:12:32.240
nominee or a winner in Bob Dylan, right, because Dylan

213
00:12:32.279 --> 00:12:35.320
won the Oscar for Best Original Song for Things Have

214
00:12:35.480 --> 00:12:39.679
Changed from Wonder Boys, and Chalomy is the eighth person

215
00:12:39.919 --> 00:12:42.879
to receive an Oscar for portraying a Nobel laureate. I

216
00:12:43.000 --> 00:12:46.039
was surprised by that. I mean that's a lot, but

217
00:12:46.080 --> 00:12:49.399
I suppose Nobel laureates, by their very nature, have got

218
00:12:49.440 --> 00:12:56.360
stories to tell. Yes, we're talking Walter Pigeon as in

219
00:12:56.600 --> 00:13:02.279
Madame for Madame Curie, Greer Garson in Madame Curie, Alexander

220
00:13:02.360 --> 00:13:05.679
Knox for Wilson as in Woodrow Wilson, Jack Nicholson for

221
00:13:05.759 --> 00:13:10.000
Red's portraying Eugene O'Neil, Russell Crowe, a Beautiful Mind, John

222
00:13:10.080 --> 00:13:14.240
Nash Junior, Morgan Freeman in Invictus for Nelson Mandela, and

223
00:13:14.279 --> 00:13:17.919
Gary Oldman Darkest Hour for winstant Churchill. That'll do, won't it?

224
00:13:17.919 --> 00:13:23.879
For trivia? Now you can find for we haven't talked

225
00:13:23.879 --> 00:13:26.240
about Australians. We've got to talk about Australians, don't we,

226
00:13:26.519 --> 00:13:30.679
surely before we go into the category. Okay, So Guy

227
00:13:30.840 --> 00:13:34.480
Pierce the Brutalist is the Obvious and memoir of a Snail,

228
00:13:34.519 --> 00:13:40.120
Adam Elliott and Liz Kearney. Yeah, yes, I mean that's

229
00:13:40.200 --> 00:13:43.600
pretty There are some other ossies as well. Visual effects

230
00:13:43.759 --> 00:13:46.559
that are quite a few, and visual effects better Man,

231
00:13:47.000 --> 00:13:52.200
David Clayton, Keith Hurfton, Peter Stubbs alongside the VFX producer

232
00:13:52.480 --> 00:13:54.879
Luke Miller, and then Kingdom of the Planet of the

233
00:13:54.919 --> 00:13:58.600
Apes of the Apes Rodney Burke and Aleyen Romulus. And

234
00:13:58.600 --> 00:14:03.399
I'm going to mispronounce his name and iologize Nelson sepul Vida Fauser.

235
00:14:04.360 --> 00:14:06.919
So there you go. That's for visual effect. I'm sure

236
00:14:06.960 --> 00:14:07.600
I've left something.

237
00:14:09.159 --> 00:14:14.480
Oh, I'm getting lots of noise in the background, you Alex, Yeah.

238
00:14:14.399 --> 00:14:19.360
Me me shuffling. But there's cinematography Greg Froz Dune part two.

239
00:14:20.559 --> 00:14:25.000
There's I Am Ruddy Warden documentary short film. There are

240
00:14:25.000 --> 00:14:29.240
a couple of others, producer Maya Gnips that they're they're

241
00:14:29.240 --> 00:14:32.559
the ones I know, Well what else? Sorry?

242
00:14:32.919 --> 00:14:34.679
What a good name? I might change mine?

243
00:14:34.720 --> 00:14:36.960
Maya Gnips, Gnips.

244
00:14:37.120 --> 00:14:39.360
Andy Gnipps. How does that sound.

245
00:14:39.480 --> 00:14:43.720
Nips g n y p Yeah, nip nationality?

246
00:14:43.799 --> 00:14:45.240
Is that just for a bit of trivia?

247
00:14:45.679 --> 00:14:48.720
Well these days you couldn't tell, could you. I mean,

248
00:14:48.720 --> 00:14:52.759
I'm now I'm now using this to Google machine? Is it,

249
00:14:52.879 --> 00:14:57.279
mister or which which Google machine? I'm just them here

250
00:14:57.519 --> 00:15:01.799
her she we there you go from Wikipedia. If we

251
00:15:01.840 --> 00:15:05.320
can trust Wikipedia. A film producer based in Australia and

252
00:15:05.360 --> 00:15:08.240
the United States. So what one night in each place

253
00:15:10.320 --> 00:15:14.519
and mayag Nip is a she. Yeah, and I'm just

254
00:15:14.840 --> 00:15:19.919
looking at Wikipedia again, produced documentary executive producer of a

255
00:15:19.960 --> 00:15:24.559
TV series, Muslim Matchmaker. There you go, commissions.

256
00:15:25.080 --> 00:15:30.919
It's another film to mention an Australian production with international directors.

257
00:15:31.679 --> 00:15:35.519
Is Porcelain War nominated for Documentary Feature?

258
00:15:36.000 --> 00:15:38.480
Oh? Is it really? Okay? There you go, I've missed

259
00:15:38.519 --> 00:15:41.960
Porcelain War, you know, throw the baby out with a

260
00:15:42.000 --> 00:15:44.720
bath border right. I'm just looking at the official trailer,

261
00:15:45.200 --> 00:15:47.759
A two minute twenty one thing, a war wage by

262
00:15:47.799 --> 00:15:51.480
professional soldiers against ordinary civilians. There you go, Peter.

263
00:15:52.279 --> 00:15:56.039
It has lots of artistic visual effects and so on,

264
00:15:56.080 --> 00:16:00.399
because it's about Ukraine and artists who are living and

265
00:16:00.440 --> 00:16:02.000
surviving in war.

266
00:16:02.440 --> 00:16:05.240
And it won the Director's Guild of America Award. There

267
00:16:05.240 --> 00:16:09.799
you go, Peter. So yeah, and I'm looking at it

268
00:16:10.039 --> 00:16:14.919
from Awards Daily. Porcelain War masterfully illustrates the enduring power

269
00:16:15.200 --> 00:16:18.240
of art in the face of adversity. And that's what

270
00:16:18.279 --> 00:16:20.759
we're about. We're artistic, aren't we? The three of us.

271
00:16:21.879 --> 00:16:22.879
Face of adversity.

272
00:16:23.320 --> 00:16:26.919
Absolutely, I'm full of adversity.

273
00:16:27.080 --> 00:16:31.519
You are. I'm full of admiration because I put up

274
00:16:31.519 --> 00:16:33.159
with your adversity.

275
00:16:32.879 --> 00:16:33.559
This week?

276
00:16:34.759 --> 00:16:37.440
Do I deserve? Do I deserve an Oscar? For that?

277
00:16:37.480 --> 00:16:39.279
Peter and Honorary Oscar.

278
00:16:40.799 --> 00:16:44.039
Now, Sandy, over to you. You can give us the

279
00:16:44.039 --> 00:16:47.879
Best Picture nominees and then you can give me your

280
00:16:48.000 --> 00:16:51.480
fancy and you're under Bubbler, the one that may may

281
00:16:51.559 --> 00:16:53.360
throw a cat amongst the pigeons.

282
00:16:53.360 --> 00:16:58.559
So that's the drum roll. There's nominations for Best Picture.

283
00:16:58.679 --> 00:17:05.039
Go to Anora the Brutalist. A Complete Unknown Conclave June

284
00:17:05.160 --> 00:17:10.039
Part two, Amelia Perez, I'm still here. Nickel Boys, the

285
00:17:10.079 --> 00:17:12.440
Substance and Wicked.

286
00:17:12.559 --> 00:17:14.720
All right, so before we give you before you give

287
00:17:14.759 --> 00:17:19.279
me your under bubbler, and you're your winner. I've seen

288
00:17:19.400 --> 00:17:21.839
nine of the ten. The only one I haven't seen

289
00:17:21.880 --> 00:17:23.799
is Nickel Boys. What about you, Sandy.

290
00:17:24.599 --> 00:17:29.480
I've seen eight of the ten, but the two I

291
00:17:29.519 --> 00:17:32.720
haven't seen is June part two, and I haven't caught

292
00:17:32.759 --> 00:17:35.640
up with. I'm still here yet, I have seen Nickel Boys.

293
00:17:35.920 --> 00:17:38.759
Ah, Okay, Peter, I've seen them all.

294
00:17:39.319 --> 00:17:42.119
Oh, Peta, of course you have.

295
00:17:42.599 --> 00:17:49.599
Okay, see you're you're you're the ultimate arbiter here, Peter. Okay, Sandy,

296
00:17:49.720 --> 00:17:51.400
go for it. What's your what's the one that's going

297
00:17:51.480 --> 00:17:53.960
to push your winner to the ultimate extreme.

298
00:17:54.200 --> 00:17:57.000
I if I was the Academy and the vote depended

299
00:17:57.079 --> 00:18:00.519
on me, I would give it to Conclave without a doubt.

300
00:18:00.559 --> 00:18:04.640
I thought that was a tremendous story, fabulously acted. It

301
00:18:04.720 --> 00:18:10.200
was not only inspiring and educational, but also thoroughly entertaining

302
00:18:10.599 --> 00:18:14.640
and extremely timely given what's happened happening right now in

303
00:18:14.680 --> 00:18:19.359
the world. So I would go Conclave, and my under bubbler,

304
00:18:19.400 --> 00:18:22.079
as you called it, I'd haven't. And it's really hard

305
00:18:22.119 --> 00:18:25.599
because i'd have now, or I guess I would have

306
00:18:25.680 --> 00:18:29.519
to give it to Amlia Perez as the under bubbler.

307
00:18:30.039 --> 00:18:33.480
Okay, And bear in mind where we, like everybody else,

308
00:18:33.519 --> 00:18:36.160
wish the Pope extremely well, and it's very sad that

309
00:18:36.720 --> 00:18:39.880
only the twenty four hours he's taking a turn for

310
00:18:39.920 --> 00:18:42.839
the worse as well, and he's been a real fighter.

311
00:18:42.880 --> 00:18:46.799
But at least now we know what happens once he goes.

312
00:18:46.839 --> 00:18:48.720
I mean, he's going to go sooner or later, right,

313
00:18:49.000 --> 00:18:51.960
And we know then what the whole process is. Because

314
00:18:52.000 --> 00:18:56.640
it's Conclave, we understand a whole lot more well, certainly

315
00:18:56.680 --> 00:18:58.440
that I never knew about, and I'm sure a lot

316
00:18:58.440 --> 00:19:01.920
of people listening also never understood that process of how

317
00:19:01.920 --> 00:19:05.279
they get there, and Conclave was based on the actual

318
00:19:05.359 --> 00:19:09.680
process that all of these priests go through to choose

319
00:19:09.680 --> 00:19:11.759
a new pope. I thought it was spectacular.

320
00:19:12.240 --> 00:19:14.680
Well, it's interesting. I mean, I must admit I knew

321
00:19:14.680 --> 00:19:19.160
most of it, Peter, did you have? I just thought

322
00:19:19.160 --> 00:19:21.200
it was really well done with the twist at the

323
00:19:21.279 --> 00:19:23.039
end and so on as well. But I mean I

324
00:19:23.119 --> 00:19:24.880
knew the process, did you not, Pete.

325
00:19:25.480 --> 00:19:28.039
I've seen a couple of other films dealing with popes

326
00:19:28.680 --> 00:19:32.720
and the election process, and so I was semi familiar

327
00:19:33.359 --> 00:19:37.599
with the process. But the twist at the end of

328
00:19:37.680 --> 00:19:39.960
Conclave is the big surprise, I think.

329
00:19:40.400 --> 00:19:44.160
Also, Sandy. I mean I presume you were certainly where

330
00:19:44.200 --> 00:19:46.440
in terms of the smoke coming out of the chimney

331
00:19:46.480 --> 00:19:47.119
and all of that.

332
00:19:47.279 --> 00:19:49.920
Once I knew, I just didn't know what the whole

333
00:19:49.960 --> 00:19:52.839
deal was before that. However, you know, you talk about

334
00:19:52.839 --> 00:19:55.559
the twist at the end, and without giving anything away,

335
00:19:55.640 --> 00:19:57.680
I thought that was actually the weakest part of the

336
00:19:58.440 --> 00:20:01.960
film really. I mean, I think it's sent a good message,

337
00:20:02.359 --> 00:20:09.079
but it kind of played into political correctness, and I

338
00:20:09.240 --> 00:20:11.279
just I'm not sure that was actually necessary.

339
00:20:11.480 --> 00:20:15.799
It's interesting, so it's the duplicitousness of it, the conspiracy,

340
00:20:15.839 --> 00:20:18.319
the fact that all of these people are human beings

341
00:20:19.039 --> 00:20:23.319
before one one rises to the to the mantle of pope,

342
00:20:23.960 --> 00:20:25.960
that's what you admire.

343
00:20:26.039 --> 00:20:30.200
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah yeah. I really liked it. It

344
00:20:30.279 --> 00:20:36.039
made all of those contenders seem very normal, and the

345
00:20:36.079 --> 00:20:42.039
whole process very political, and it was certainly something that

346
00:20:42.079 --> 00:20:45.000
I didn't expect from the Roman Catholic Church. Not that

347
00:20:45.039 --> 00:20:47.519
I sat in judgment over it, but I was certainly

348
00:20:47.759 --> 00:20:51.279
enlightened by it, and I thought the acting by all

349
00:20:51.359 --> 00:20:52.839
the players was really fine.

350
00:20:53.319 --> 00:20:57.079
And don't forget, it's based on a novel, so obviously

351
00:20:57.160 --> 00:21:00.559
it's pure supposition about the twist and the out the

352
00:21:01.400 --> 00:21:02.720
parts of the process.

353
00:21:03.400 --> 00:21:05.839
Now, Peter, you give me yours, and I'll give your

354
00:21:05.839 --> 00:21:06.680
minds how to speak.

355
00:21:07.279 --> 00:21:11.519
Okay, I'll give you my racalciturnt and you give me yours.

356
00:21:11.559 --> 00:21:16.599
Now anyway, Now, look, it's a fairly wide open field

357
00:21:16.759 --> 00:21:21.960
based on previous awards that other guilds and Screen Actors

358
00:21:21.960 --> 00:21:25.400
Guild and everyone else has been giving. And I've been

359
00:21:25.400 --> 00:21:29.680
watching Variety very carefully to see what their feedback is

360
00:21:29.720 --> 00:21:36.119
from some of the voters, and so my hunch, obviously

361
00:21:36.160 --> 00:21:39.480
it's just a hunt. Is that. I agree with you, Sandy,

362
00:21:39.839 --> 00:21:44.519
Conclave will win Best Film and the Underbubbler is going

363
00:21:44.559 --> 00:21:45.759
to be Anora.

364
00:21:47.000 --> 00:21:49.640
Yeah, it's a good choice. I like Tomora a lot.

365
00:21:50.279 --> 00:21:52.599
Yeah, I liked Anora a lot as well. I'm going

366
00:21:52.680 --> 00:21:54.839
to stick with the film that I When I saw it,

367
00:21:54.920 --> 00:21:56.920
I thought, my golly, this is going to win. And

368
00:21:57.000 --> 00:21:59.480
I mentioned that earlier. The brutalist. I thought it was stunning,

369
00:22:00.240 --> 00:22:04.480
really richly woven taine tale of pain and perseverance, and

370
00:22:04.880 --> 00:22:08.640
I mean the brutalist refers to the style of architecture,

371
00:22:08.680 --> 00:22:13.400
and we're talking about something in the wake of World

372
00:22:13.480 --> 00:22:20.119
War II, and somebody coming to America, the opportunities presented,

373
00:22:20.200 --> 00:22:22.519
and the barriers that are put in front of him

374
00:22:22.559 --> 00:22:26.319
as well, and the character that he is, and then

375
00:22:26.359 --> 00:22:28.519
his wife joins him, and so on and so forth.

376
00:22:29.119 --> 00:22:34.759
I thought it was an amazing film, very very richly painted,

377
00:22:35.839 --> 00:22:40.440
very powerful, very distressing, all of those sorts of things,

378
00:22:40.640 --> 00:22:43.119
and it's sort of epic in nature, and I thought

379
00:22:43.160 --> 00:22:46.400
it was based on a real human being. It was

380
00:22:46.440 --> 00:22:49.440
only after because I never read about a film beforehand,

381
00:22:49.640 --> 00:22:51.359
and it was only afterwards when I looked it up

382
00:22:51.359 --> 00:22:55.200
that I realized this was a sort of inspired by

383
00:22:55.319 --> 00:22:59.559
real life architects and designers, but wasn't real. So I

384
00:22:59.640 --> 00:23:04.599
picked the Brutalist and the two that I also thought

385
00:23:04.640 --> 00:23:07.960
Anora was an amazing film, and I also like The

386
00:23:08.000 --> 00:23:10.960
Complete Unknown. I'm a complete Unknown, I might say, even

387
00:23:11.000 --> 00:23:13.440
though it was only for a period of time in

388
00:23:13.759 --> 00:23:16.920
the life of Bob Dylan. But I thought Conclave was

389
00:23:16.960 --> 00:23:21.279
probably the second best film as well. So yeah, Conclave

390
00:23:22.000 --> 00:23:25.359
through the three of us. Conclave probably gets more votes

391
00:23:25.359 --> 00:23:27.880
if you're going ten dount of one. But I'm going

392
00:23:27.960 --> 00:23:30.759
to go with a Brutalist for best Film. So let's

393
00:23:30.799 --> 00:23:33.480
go to best Director, Sandy, do you want to do

394
00:23:33.519 --> 00:23:33.720
this one?

395
00:23:34.599 --> 00:23:38.680
Best Director? Yes, I can definitely do that. Best Director

396
00:23:38.799 --> 00:23:43.880
Jacques Audiard Familia Perez, Sean Baker for Anura, Brady Corbett

397
00:23:44.160 --> 00:23:49.960
for The Brutalist, Coralie Fargate for The Substance, and James

398
00:23:50.000 --> 00:23:52.200
Mangold for a Complete Unknown.

399
00:23:52.759 --> 00:23:55.400
Thank you now, Peter, you go first for this one.

400
00:23:56.400 --> 00:23:59.279
I think this is laid down mosaic. Go for it well.

401
00:23:59.640 --> 00:24:02.880
I think Brutalist won't win Best Film, but I think

402
00:24:02.920 --> 00:24:05.920
Brady Corbet will win for Best Director.

403
00:24:06.119 --> 00:24:09.839
Totally agree with you. Yes, and so why is that? So?

404
00:24:10.799 --> 00:24:15.079
Why do you have a director who wins the Ultimate

405
00:24:15.160 --> 00:24:16.480
Prize but his film doesn't.

406
00:24:17.200 --> 00:24:19.359
Well, don't forget that there are a number of people

407
00:24:19.359 --> 00:24:24.119
that contribute to a film. There's screenwriters, there's a production design, costume,

408
00:24:24.200 --> 00:24:29.279
all that sort of thing. So the director's vision is

409
00:24:29.319 --> 00:24:34.000
one thing, but the totality of a film, the whole package,

410
00:24:34.039 --> 00:24:37.559
is the Best Film award, So they can be separated. Actually,

411
00:24:37.839 --> 00:24:38.920
he expressed.

412
00:24:38.519 --> 00:24:42.599
It very well, very very well. Indeed, I would simply ask, though,

413
00:24:43.240 --> 00:24:46.759
should we not know the vision of the directors at

414
00:24:46.799 --> 00:24:50.720
some point? As reviewers ourselves? It'd be nice to know

415
00:24:50.799 --> 00:24:53.720
that because then you can juxtapose what they say they

416
00:24:53.759 --> 00:24:56.079
are trying to achieve with what they have achieved.

417
00:24:57.400 --> 00:24:59.920
I'm not convinced about that. It's like asking an hour

418
00:25:00.039 --> 00:25:02.680
artist what they were intending to do with a piece

419
00:25:02.720 --> 00:25:07.079
of art and then having to agree or disagree and

420
00:25:07.160 --> 00:25:10.319
formulate an opinion based on that. It has to stand

421
00:25:10.400 --> 00:25:11.119
up for itself.

422
00:25:11.920 --> 00:25:14.720
Interesting. I wouldn't mind knowing that quite frankly, But I

423
00:25:15.240 --> 00:25:17.680
understand your thought, Sandy, who do you think will win?

424
00:25:20.079 --> 00:25:21.720
Who do I think or win? Or who would I

425
00:25:21.880 --> 00:25:22.400
like to win?

426
00:25:22.759 --> 00:25:25.200
Okay, well, go both? Who would you like to win.

427
00:25:25.319 --> 00:25:27.400
I think who would I like to win. I'd like

428
00:25:27.440 --> 00:25:31.400
to see Coralie Faget win for The Substance. I thought

429
00:25:31.799 --> 00:25:36.920
that was sensationally done. But who I think will win

430
00:25:37.039 --> 00:25:39.079
will be Jacques Boudyard from Mini Perez.

431
00:25:40.079 --> 00:25:45.400
Really okay, yes, fair enough, you think, But me, what

432
00:25:45.559 --> 00:25:47.720
do you think? No? I think that I think Brady

433
00:25:47.799 --> 00:25:49.720
Corbey will win for The Brutalist. I don't think there's

434
00:25:49.759 --> 00:25:50.160
any doubt.

435
00:25:51.759 --> 00:25:54.279
Yeah, you might be right. I don't not really put

436
00:25:54.279 --> 00:25:57.559
off The Brutalist. I was really expecting too much. It's

437
00:25:57.599 --> 00:26:00.319
awful when you go into a film with high expectators,

438
00:26:00.319 --> 00:26:02.519
whether you read about it first or whether you just

439
00:26:02.920 --> 00:26:07.680
hear from other people what it's like, or and then

440
00:26:07.839 --> 00:26:10.079
you can't help but to be disappointed if you've got

441
00:26:10.200 --> 00:26:13.039
high expectations, and you know, for a movie like The

442
00:26:13.079 --> 00:26:16.880
Substance that I walked into with absolutely no expectations, I

443
00:26:17.000 --> 00:26:19.680
was totally blown away. The same with Emilia Pereres, the

444
00:26:19.720 --> 00:26:23.599
same with an Aura actually, but The Brutalist. As a

445
00:26:23.640 --> 00:26:28.160
result of the build up, I was quite disappointed with Well.

446
00:26:28.440 --> 00:26:31.559
Let's go to best actor, and in that category you've

447
00:26:31.559 --> 00:26:34.559
got Adrian Brady for The Brutalist. You've got Timothy Chalomy

448
00:26:34.599 --> 00:26:37.480
for a Complete Unknown, then you've got Coleman Domingo in

449
00:26:37.680 --> 00:26:43.279
sing sing, Rape Fines for Conclave, and Sebastian Stan the Apprentice. Again,

450
00:26:44.359 --> 00:26:47.000
I don't think there's much argument here that I will

451
00:26:47.039 --> 00:26:50.519
be interested to see. I think that the performances hastured

452
00:26:50.559 --> 00:26:53.880
out for me were Timothy Shalomy thought it was amazing

453
00:26:54.200 --> 00:26:56.319
as Bob Dylan put five years or five and a

454
00:26:56.519 --> 00:26:59.519
half years of his life into getting that down, pat

455
00:26:59.720 --> 00:27:03.559
that singing as well as the performance. He's a guy

456
00:27:03.599 --> 00:27:06.000
who will win the Best Act to OSK, I have

457
00:27:06.079 --> 00:27:08.480
no doubt about it. His career, the trajectory of his

458
00:27:08.519 --> 00:27:12.400
career has been amazing. So but I and I thought

459
00:27:12.519 --> 00:27:14.880
Ray Fines was very very strong in Conclave, not that

460
00:27:14.960 --> 00:27:17.200
the others were bad, but I think Adrian Brady will

461
00:27:17.200 --> 00:27:18.839
win for the Brutalis. What do you think better?

462
00:27:21.039 --> 00:27:23.799
A few weeks ago, I was thinking Adrian Brody, But

463
00:27:23.920 --> 00:27:26.759
with the Screen Actors Guild Awards and a few other

464
00:27:27.960 --> 00:27:30.799
events that have been happening, I think it'll be either

465
00:27:31.599 --> 00:27:37.400
Timothy Chalo Maay for Complete Unknown or Ray Fine for

466
00:27:37.559 --> 00:27:39.359
Conclave SCENEY.

467
00:27:40.240 --> 00:27:43.279
I would definitely give it to Ralph Fine for Conclave.

468
00:27:43.319 --> 00:27:46.319
I thought his performance was outstanding, not that the others

469
00:27:46.319 --> 00:27:50.319
weren't great. I'd go Ralph and then probably Adrian Brody.

470
00:27:50.519 --> 00:27:53.079
I think he's a very high contender in this too.

471
00:27:53.240 --> 00:27:56.720
I mean Timothy Shallo May was grow good. I don't

472
00:27:56.759 --> 00:27:59.279
know that it actually required a whole lot of acting.

473
00:27:59.440 --> 00:28:01.759
I mean give it to him for his learning to

474
00:28:01.799 --> 00:28:04.440
sing like Dylan in the acting. He just had to

475
00:28:04.519 --> 00:28:09.480
underplay everything. So I'd definitely go Ralph or Adrian on

476
00:28:09.519 --> 00:28:12.279
this one. However, in saying that both Common Domingo and

477
00:28:12.359 --> 00:28:16.720
Sebastian stan did the Apprentice were also fabulous.

478
00:28:16.559 --> 00:28:20.640
Did you like a complete unknown? Yeah?

479
00:28:20.880 --> 00:28:24.599
I think another one that I had my expectations built

480
00:28:24.640 --> 00:28:28.200
too high. I thought it was okay, it wasn't. It

481
00:28:28.319 --> 00:28:32.160
wasn't amazing. I thought it was too long. It was

482
00:28:32.440 --> 00:28:36.599
quite a good story, but I didn't think it was outstanding.

483
00:28:37.559 --> 00:28:43.160
Best Actress Cynthia and Arrivo for Wicked. You've got Karla,

484
00:28:43.400 --> 00:28:50.799
Sophia gascon Familiar, Perez, Mickey Madison, Mikey, Mikey, hang on,

485
00:28:50.960 --> 00:28:56.559
don't we use that on trains by? Sorry it's Mikey,

486
00:28:56.759 --> 00:28:59.799
Is it okay? Mikey? I apologize, Mickey there's no sea.

487
00:29:00.240 --> 00:29:04.119
Sorry about that. I apologize Mikey Mikey Madison for a nourra,

488
00:29:04.599 --> 00:29:07.799
Demi Moore for the substance, and Fernanda Torres. I'm still here.

489
00:29:08.400 --> 00:29:10.559
I'm still here. You just saw that as well, Sandy.

490
00:29:10.839 --> 00:29:12.519
What a performance by Fernanda Torres.

491
00:29:12.559 --> 00:29:14.759
Eh, I haven't seen it. That's the one I have

492
00:29:14.880 --> 00:29:15.200
to say.

493
00:29:15.480 --> 00:29:16.440
I'm sorry, I apologize.

494
00:29:16.440 --> 00:29:18.559
I know I'm going to go. I'm really going to

495
00:29:18.599 --> 00:29:19.200
quickly go.

496
00:29:20.079 --> 00:29:22.079
Okay, well, if you need to go, you need to go.

497
00:29:22.480 --> 00:29:22.839
I know.

498
00:29:25.000 --> 00:29:27.319
Demi Moore is going to win this one.

499
00:29:27.599 --> 00:29:29.200
Yes, I'd love to say that.

500
00:29:29.559 --> 00:29:33.640
Whight't that be great? I really in terms of you

501
00:29:33.680 --> 00:29:38.160
think about this and Pamela Anderson, who also came back

502
00:29:38.400 --> 00:29:40.599
to prominence in terms of the movie that she's just

503
00:29:41.000 --> 00:29:43.839
starring in at the moment, the two of them, I mean,

504
00:29:43.839 --> 00:29:47.960
this is the year of the Resurrection, Peter, how religious?

505
00:29:48.000 --> 00:29:48.519
Can you get it?

506
00:29:48.880 --> 00:29:52.920
Exactly? Exactly? Now? Don't well, don't you think Demi is

507
00:29:52.920 --> 00:29:53.279
going to win?

508
00:29:54.559 --> 00:29:58.799
Look, I'm a big equivot. I'm equivocating about this. I

509
00:29:58.839 --> 00:30:02.759
think it would be no for her to win. But again,

510
00:30:02.920 --> 00:30:06.759
based on some other awards that are made happening, I

511
00:30:06.799 --> 00:30:08.599
have a feeling Mikey Madison might win it.

512
00:30:08.680 --> 00:30:14.680
I mean she was brilliant in an aura, no question. Look,

513
00:30:14.880 --> 00:30:19.759
is there any sentimentality amongst the voters? You know, the

514
00:30:20.039 --> 00:30:23.079
members of the Motion Picture Arts and Academy. What's it

515
00:30:23.079 --> 00:30:24.640
called again? That the full book title?

516
00:30:25.039 --> 00:30:31.799
He has the associates associated, It's the Academy of Motion

517
00:30:31.960 --> 00:30:34.440
Picture Arts and Sciences.

518
00:30:33.960 --> 00:30:37.720
That's it. So is there no sense of career here?

519
00:30:38.240 --> 00:30:40.640
They make a decision based on that year? Or do

520
00:30:40.720 --> 00:30:41.680
they not? What do you reckon?

521
00:30:41.920 --> 00:30:45.319
Well, when you say they, there's over eleven thousand members,

522
00:30:45.359 --> 00:30:48.279
so you'd have to survey each of them to find out.

523
00:30:48.640 --> 00:30:51.559
But because it is such a diverse membership now and

524
00:30:51.640 --> 00:30:56.839
a much broader membership, I don't think sentimentality comes into it.

525
00:30:56.880 --> 00:31:01.920
I think it's a personal opinion from each of the members.

526
00:31:02.279 --> 00:31:04.480
Yeah, I think it does come down to those two.

527
00:31:04.480 --> 00:31:05.839
What about you, Sandy.

528
00:31:07.480 --> 00:31:10.799
Quote? Do I think I would like to see DEMI

529
00:31:10.880 --> 00:31:14.920
want more win for the substance, So she's in my mind,

530
00:31:14.920 --> 00:31:18.640
the standout. You know, I don't think we should overlook

531
00:31:19.160 --> 00:31:21.319
Cynthia or Evo for a wicked either. I think she

532
00:31:21.400 --> 00:31:24.680
did a sensational job. Mikey Madison, I think she was

533
00:31:24.720 --> 00:31:27.039
really good, but you know she's I think she's got

534
00:31:27.079 --> 00:31:31.000
another fifty years of acting where she can win one.

535
00:31:31.039 --> 00:31:33.279
So I would really like to see them. And it

536
00:31:33.440 --> 00:31:35.720
is pronounced to me, not Demi, isn't it?

537
00:31:35.720 --> 00:31:38.440
It is to me? You're right, I want her.

538
00:31:38.480 --> 00:31:39.759
I'm rooting for Demi Moore.

539
00:31:39.920 --> 00:31:43.039
You're rooting for Demi Moore. Okay, let's let's good.

540
00:31:44.119 --> 00:31:51.000
And can I just add one thing, Sandy, never call Raife? Fine, Ralse,

541
00:31:51.400 --> 00:31:52.279
you will tell.

542
00:31:52.200 --> 00:31:55.960
You off I would do with somebody if my parents

543
00:31:55.960 --> 00:31:58.200
had called me Ralph. I wouldn't like that, either to

544
00:31:58.240 --> 00:31:59.839
be like we're full birthdy.

545
00:31:59.599 --> 00:32:03.319
Or say we've offended every Ralph listening to us now.

546
00:32:04.839 --> 00:32:08.119
But ever ralph listening doesn't call themselves Rafe. Why does

547
00:32:08.160 --> 00:32:09.759
he even call himself Rafe?

548
00:32:09.880 --> 00:32:12.200
Well, because he can? You know, names are made up.

549
00:32:12.640 --> 00:32:15.680
There's an X in every third name, now, isn't there? Right?

550
00:32:15.920 --> 00:32:17.799
I mean called Ralph.

551
00:32:17.839 --> 00:32:20.640
His parents clearly intended for him to be called Ralph,

552
00:32:20.720 --> 00:32:23.839
not Rafe. He's just modified that because he could.

553
00:32:23.920 --> 00:32:26.960
Right, we're presuming, but we don't know that, do we do?

554
00:32:27.039 --> 00:32:27.440
We help?

555
00:32:27.880 --> 00:32:31.839
I think the real story behind rape fines his name.

556
00:32:31.960 --> 00:32:34.519
Yes, there is some Irish background to him, and I

557
00:32:34.519 --> 00:32:36.960
think that's why it's pronounced Rathe.

558
00:32:37.119 --> 00:32:38.960
Well, you know, I'm going to call him Ralph. He

559
00:32:38.960 --> 00:32:39.559
can tell me what.

560
00:32:41.680 --> 00:32:43.559
We'll have to have a conclave to discuss this.

561
00:32:45.960 --> 00:32:50.319
Now best supporting actor we have got Eura Borason in

562
00:32:50.400 --> 00:32:54.240
An Aura as Igor Kieran Kalkan Are Real Pain, which

563
00:32:54.359 --> 00:32:56.160
was nowhere near as good a film as it needed

564
00:32:56.160 --> 00:32:57.680
to be excellent film.

565
00:32:58.359 --> 00:33:00.559
No, how could you say that, Peter.

566
00:33:01.039 --> 00:33:03.599
It was an excellent film and is getting awards left right.

567
00:33:04.240 --> 00:33:07.279
Excellent about it. My trip to Poland was far more

568
00:33:07.319 --> 00:33:08.400
interesting than theirs.

569
00:33:08.799 --> 00:33:11.240
There you go. See, I don't disagree with you, Sandy.

570
00:33:11.279 --> 00:33:15.039
I'm sure it was so rubbish.

571
00:33:15.279 --> 00:33:15.599
He was.

572
00:33:15.720 --> 00:33:19.240
Karen Carlquin, who is nominated for Supporting Actor, was really

573
00:33:19.240 --> 00:33:21.000
good in it, but he was at song character he

574
00:33:21.039 --> 00:33:26.640
played in in succession. He's always the same. But I

575
00:33:26.680 --> 00:33:29.279
can't believe you liked that film, Peter. I've lost the

576
00:33:29.359 --> 00:33:30.480
mat lo to respect for you.

577
00:33:30.599 --> 00:33:31.279
Now why?

578
00:33:32.160 --> 00:33:35.119
Because it was so well written by Jesse Eisenberg, who

579
00:33:35.160 --> 00:33:41.680
has used his anxieties and issues and post Holocaust sort

580
00:33:41.720 --> 00:33:47.640
of situation to fashion a much more inviting story for

581
00:33:47.680 --> 00:33:50.599
a younger generation. I think it works extremely well.

582
00:33:51.720 --> 00:33:54.720
I mean they didn't even go into the house. They've

583
00:33:54.759 --> 00:33:57.119
gone all the way to Poland to see the grandmother's

584
00:33:57.119 --> 00:33:58.759
house and didn't even enter it.

585
00:33:59.200 --> 00:34:02.680
The what the Yeah, I I totally agree with you,

586
00:34:02.759 --> 00:34:07.240
so Andy. I sat there thinking what where he's fuss about?

587
00:34:07.279 --> 00:34:10.559
And I having said that, I also applaud Karen Kulkin.

588
00:34:11.039 --> 00:34:13.480
I think he's going to win, by the way, the award.

589
00:34:13.599 --> 00:34:16.559
But Edward Norton was really good in a complete unknown

590
00:34:16.840 --> 00:34:20.679
guy Pierce a really showy role in the You didn't

591
00:34:20.800 --> 00:34:21.079
like it?

592
00:34:21.360 --> 00:34:23.920
I hated gride Peers and the Brutalist, but that was.

593
00:34:23.920 --> 00:34:26.199
The whole idea. No, no, but I didn't.

594
00:34:26.239 --> 00:34:27.199
I didn't like his acting.

595
00:34:27.199 --> 00:34:28.599
I thought he's he's acting.

596
00:34:29.800 --> 00:34:32.800
I just saw him. Did you say you've obviously seen

597
00:34:32.840 --> 00:34:37.920
the movie inside the Australia now that he acts brilliantly

598
00:34:38.000 --> 00:34:39.880
and that I would give him the award for that

599
00:34:40.480 --> 00:34:41.000
foot role?

600
00:34:41.599 --> 00:34:43.440
Yeah, I was going to say roll for sure, but

601
00:34:43.480 --> 00:34:45.519
I thought he really over acted in The Brutalist.

602
00:34:45.559 --> 00:34:50.920
I didn't like, don't agree.

603
00:34:49.239 --> 00:34:52.079
Paid for this big role? Here to do to discuss,

604
00:34:52.119 --> 00:34:53.000
aren't we we bet?

605
00:34:54.400 --> 00:34:57.000
And for once I don't like agreeing with Peter about anything,

606
00:34:57.039 --> 00:34:59.840
but on this occasion as I do agree with the

607
00:35:00.159 --> 00:35:02.920
because I thought he played the role as he was

608
00:35:02.920 --> 00:35:05.079
asked to play it. And I mean, there's this sort

609
00:35:05.119 --> 00:35:08.719
of belligerent person who barged his way through life, right,

610
00:35:08.800 --> 00:35:11.239
That's that's the role in the brutal Is. Having said that,

611
00:35:11.280 --> 00:35:15.280
there's also Jeremy Strong from The Apprentice, So Sandy who's

612
00:35:15.280 --> 00:35:16.559
going to win Best Supporting Actor?

613
00:35:16.840 --> 00:35:20.440
Kieren Caulkin will win it, Yep, he seems happy for him.

614
00:35:20.480 --> 00:35:22.800
I like him, but he can't. I don't think he

615
00:35:22.840 --> 00:35:26.400
can play anything else other than that for Signa. I

616
00:35:26.400 --> 00:35:28.599
think that's probably who he is. Is a bit like

617
00:35:28.880 --> 00:35:32.280
Debora Faness. She can only ever play deborly Faness. I mean,

618
00:35:32.320 --> 00:35:34.760
and if you know her, you know that's who she

619
00:35:34.880 --> 00:35:37.440
plays each time. I think Kieran Culkin's a bit like

620
00:35:37.480 --> 00:35:42.639
that too, having seen his other stuff. But I yes,

621
00:35:42.719 --> 00:35:45.920
I think Kieran Culkin's going to win it. Although I

622
00:35:45.960 --> 00:35:49.199
do like you were a Borisov in Honora too. I

623
00:35:49.199 --> 00:35:50.280
think that was quite good.

624
00:35:51.800 --> 00:35:54.480
Yeah, I think Kieran had a more substantive role. Not

625
00:35:54.559 --> 00:35:57.760
that that make anything, you know, that's not a guarantee.

626
00:35:57.840 --> 00:36:02.880
Peter Kieren Definitely Kieran Colgan okay, Best Supporting Actress Monica

627
00:36:02.880 --> 00:36:07.519
Barbaro for a complete unknown, Ariana Geronde for Wicked Felicity

628
00:36:07.599 --> 00:36:11.400
Jones the Brutalis, but me Isabella Rossalini for Conclave, and

629
00:36:11.639 --> 00:36:15.320
Zoe Saldana laid down misre for Zoe? Isn't it Pete?

630
00:36:15.840 --> 00:36:17.599
Absolutely? She's got it one.

631
00:36:18.119 --> 00:36:22.480
I mean, and she did it in various languages. She danced.

632
00:36:22.559 --> 00:36:25.599
She's saying she just does it all, doesn't that? I mean?

633
00:36:25.639 --> 00:36:30.519
It's such a prominent performance. And quite frankly, I reckon

634
00:36:30.679 --> 00:36:33.719
she should have been nominated as Best Actress and the

635
00:36:33.760 --> 00:36:36.119
other way around in Carlo Sephia Gascon should have been

636
00:36:36.159 --> 00:36:38.440
Best Supporting Actress. What do you yeah?

637
00:36:39.079 --> 00:36:40.199
That was up to the studio.

638
00:36:40.800 --> 00:36:44.039
I know, I know, disappointing in that regard. I thought,

639
00:36:45.119 --> 00:36:47.599
not that I've got anything against Carlo Sephia Gascon. Do

640
00:36:47.679 --> 00:36:49.360
you think Zoe will win it too?

641
00:36:50.639 --> 00:36:53.679
I think she's a shoe in because the other's role.

642
00:36:53.880 --> 00:36:57.599
The other roles as Best Supporting Actress were really minor roles.

643
00:36:57.639 --> 00:36:59.920
We didn't see a whole lot of any of them.

644
00:37:00.119 --> 00:37:02.400
Grande has a shot at it. Hers was quite a

645
00:37:02.480 --> 00:37:05.000
large role. I think she was quite good in Wicked

646
00:37:05.679 --> 00:37:09.480
Felicity Jones in The Brutalist, Isabella Rousselenni we hardly saw

647
00:37:09.559 --> 00:37:16.320
in Conclave, and Monica Barbaro complete unknown, unmemorable. So yes, definitely,

648
00:37:16.400 --> 00:37:18.159
zois Holdana for a million pairyers.

649
00:37:18.599 --> 00:37:22.599
Monica Babaro is a terrific singer, beautiful singer in complete.

650
00:37:23.039 --> 00:37:25.159
Well, then they should give her the Best Singing Award.

651
00:37:26.920 --> 00:37:30.599
Okay, let's go for the next category being Best Original

652
00:37:30.639 --> 00:37:35.719
Screenplay and Nora The Brutalist A Real Pain September five.

653
00:37:36.079 --> 00:37:38.559
I wish September five be nominated for more awards. That

654
00:37:39.000 --> 00:37:41.719
was an extraordinary film. And The Substance. So we're talking

655
00:37:42.000 --> 00:37:47.840
Sean Baker, Brady Corbet and Mona fast Vold, Jesse Eisenberger

656
00:37:47.920 --> 00:37:51.840
Real Pain, my Ritz Binder, Tim Ferlbaum co written with

657
00:37:52.000 --> 00:37:55.679
Alex or by Alex David for September five and Coralie

658
00:37:55.679 --> 00:37:59.880
Fargate for The Substance. Okay, this is a tough category.

659
00:38:00.000 --> 00:38:02.559
I reckon, I haven't got a real handle on it.

660
00:38:02.599 --> 00:38:06.519
What do you think, Sandy, I'm definitely going the Substance.

661
00:38:06.800 --> 00:38:09.559
I thought that was very original. I remember when we

662
00:38:09.599 --> 00:38:13.519
talked about it, you reminded everybody that it was kind

663
00:38:13.519 --> 00:38:16.000
of similar to I can't even remember what, but it

664
00:38:16.079 --> 00:38:18.599
was a bit like something that had happened in the past.

665
00:38:18.679 --> 00:38:20.360
But I really liked the.

666
00:38:22.559 --> 00:38:25.000
Story in the substance, and I guess this is what

667
00:38:25.039 --> 00:38:28.920
that award is for. I would go the Substance, but

668
00:38:29.320 --> 00:38:34.800
I think that the Brutalist or no, I think if well, yeah,

669
00:38:34.880 --> 00:38:37.599
the screenplay of the Brutalist was actually yes, it's an

670
00:38:37.639 --> 00:38:40.519
original screenplay. That's a good one too, And I reckon

671
00:38:40.639 --> 00:38:42.840
Jesse Eisenberg might pick it up for a real pain.

672
00:38:43.079 --> 00:38:44.920
I wouldn't be happy about that, but he might.

673
00:38:45.800 --> 00:38:47.480
Okay, so what about you, Pete.

674
00:38:48.039 --> 00:38:51.159
I think Jesse Eisenberg will win it for a real pain.

675
00:38:51.239 --> 00:38:55.800
It's getting awards for the screenplay, but the backup, of course,

676
00:38:55.920 --> 00:38:56.719
is the Brutalist.

677
00:38:57.079 --> 00:39:00.199
Yeah, I'll go the Brutalist. Brady Corbay and on a

678
00:39:00.199 --> 00:39:05.000
fast foal. So Best Adapted Screenplay, Conclave's got that one,

679
00:39:05.039 --> 00:39:07.800
hasn't it. Peter Strahan based on the novel by Robert Arra,

680
00:39:08.119 --> 00:39:11.599
complete unknown, James Mangold, Jay Cox based on the book

681
00:39:11.920 --> 00:39:16.360
Dylan Goes Electric by Elijah Wald, Amelia Perez, Jacques Audiard

682
00:39:16.360 --> 00:39:22.679
collaborating with Thomas bidegain Leah Missius and Nicholas live Chi

683
00:39:22.800 --> 00:39:26.559
based on the opera libretto Amelia Perez by Jacques Audiard

684
00:39:26.800 --> 00:39:29.920
the novel Ecoute by Boris Raison. How's that? I mean?

685
00:39:30.639 --> 00:39:34.760
I'm reading directly off things. I've lost the next page.

686
00:39:34.840 --> 00:39:38.719
This is not gonna Nicol Boys, Sing Sing are the

687
00:39:38.760 --> 00:39:41.159
other two? What are you going for there? Beat?

688
00:39:42.880 --> 00:39:45.480
There's a lot of love for the film Conclave. That's

689
00:39:45.519 --> 00:39:48.480
why I'm thinking it'll win Best Film, so I think

690
00:39:48.480 --> 00:39:51.599
it will win Adapted Screenplay and Sandy.

691
00:39:51.599 --> 00:39:54.679
I'd really like to see Sing Sing When the adapted screenplay.

692
00:39:54.920 --> 00:39:59.719
I thought that was really well done and very under

693
00:39:59.719 --> 00:40:03.519
a pri preciated film. I thought the story was fabulous

694
00:40:03.760 --> 00:40:06.239
and they've done it really well. I'd love to see

695
00:40:06.239 --> 00:40:06.719
them when.

696
00:40:07.079 --> 00:40:10.800
Well, okay, well fair enough. We haven't seen a lot

697
00:40:10.840 --> 00:40:14.800
of the best animated feature films yet, seeing Flow this week,

698
00:40:14.880 --> 00:40:19.400
Inside Out too. We've seen Memoir of a Snail actually,

699
00:40:19.679 --> 00:40:22.360
and The Wild Robot was really good too, and Wallace

700
00:40:22.400 --> 00:40:26.280
and Grommet Vengeance, most Foul Pete. Have you seen all

701
00:40:26.280 --> 00:40:29.039
of them or not? Or only four of the five?

702
00:40:29.639 --> 00:40:33.400
Four of the five. I'm waiting to see Flow. It's

703
00:40:33.440 --> 00:40:36.039
a tough one because it also just won Best Animation

704
00:40:36.159 --> 00:40:41.000
at the Cizar Awards, But I think Wild Robot will

705
00:40:41.079 --> 00:40:43.199
run with Flow as a backup.

706
00:40:43.519 --> 00:40:45.719
Yeah, I think I agree Wild Robot Sandy.

707
00:40:46.199 --> 00:40:48.320
I'll go inside out too on this one.

708
00:40:48.920 --> 00:40:52.119
Yeah, it's been very very popular, hasn't it. It's done

709
00:40:52.159 --> 00:40:53.079
remarkably well.

710
00:40:53.800 --> 00:40:56.199
And it's an adult film that kids have been flocking

711
00:40:56.199 --> 00:40:59.559
to and young adults just can't get enough of. Similarly,

712
00:40:59.599 --> 00:41:02.519
Memoir a snail, I have to say, but I'd go

713
00:41:02.679 --> 00:41:03.440
inside out too.

714
00:41:04.280 --> 00:41:07.719
And I think The Wild Robot is what a proposition

715
00:41:07.760 --> 00:41:09.719
that really surprised me when I saw that, Pete. It

716
00:41:09.760 --> 00:41:13.320
really sort of took off no pun intended, But I

717
00:41:13.480 --> 00:41:17.079
thought it was a really strong story and it was

718
00:41:17.119 --> 00:41:17.840
quite compelling.

719
00:41:18.639 --> 00:41:22.360
Yes, yes, it had a nice mix of sentimentality and

720
00:41:23.119 --> 00:41:27.280
family sort of issues and so on. Yes, I agree.

721
00:41:27.639 --> 00:41:30.840
Now there's a number of these we haven't seen as well.

722
00:41:31.079 --> 00:41:33.360
I haven't seen The Girl with the Needle. This is

723
00:41:33.440 --> 00:41:37.159
best international feature. Go there, Pardon me.

724
00:41:37.440 --> 00:41:39.480
I was really hoping you'd want to talk about this.

725
00:41:39.960 --> 00:41:46.360
Yeah, Amelia Perez Flow, Amelia Perez from France in Spanish, Flow, Latvia,

726
00:41:46.760 --> 00:41:50.199
The Girl with the Needle, Denmark in Danish, and I'm

727
00:41:50.199 --> 00:41:54.679
still here Brazil in Portuguese and The Seed of the

728
00:41:54.719 --> 00:41:58.320
Sacred Fig German. So it's a hell of a combination

729
00:41:58.440 --> 00:42:01.960
of international features. I actually hope that in the future

730
00:42:02.199 --> 00:42:06.880
we're going to get more international features nominated for Best Film.

731
00:42:07.039 --> 00:42:09.880
I'm surprised that we're in twenty twenty five and that

732
00:42:09.960 --> 00:42:10.800
hasn't happened yet.

733
00:42:10.800 --> 00:42:17.199
Peter, Well, there's still that focus on American films because

734
00:42:17.239 --> 00:42:19.239
it is the American Oscars.

735
00:42:19.760 --> 00:42:24.199
Don't forget no, no, exactly. So okay, let's start with you, Sandy,

736
00:42:24.400 --> 00:42:25.039
where are eating?

737
00:42:25.199 --> 00:42:28.719
I think you would the hands down. I would give

738
00:42:28.760 --> 00:42:30.800
it to the Seat of the Sacred Fig. Now it

739
00:42:30.840 --> 00:42:34.079
says that that comes from Germany because its director had

740
00:42:34.079 --> 00:42:38.519
to flee Iran before the film was released. He had

741
00:42:38.559 --> 00:42:41.920
already been jailed a couple of times for films he

742
00:42:42.440 --> 00:42:46.679
made in Tear Run before this one, and the expose

743
00:42:46.920 --> 00:42:51.239
that this provides of the treatment of women in Iran

744
00:42:51.519 --> 00:42:57.719
is just sensational. The mix of actual phone footage with

745
00:42:57.880 --> 00:43:03.079
the story of this family whose.

746
00:43:02.119 --> 00:43:05.079
Father was don't tell me because I haven't seen it yet.

747
00:43:05.480 --> 00:43:08.280
It's the best movie out It is powerful. I can't

748
00:43:08.280 --> 00:43:11.199
stop thinking about it. So it doesn't really come from Germany,

749
00:43:11.239 --> 00:43:14.199
except that he's found exile in Germany. It comes from

750
00:43:14.199 --> 00:43:17.360
Iran and it is fabulous, the Seed of the Sacred Fig.

751
00:43:17.639 --> 00:43:19.679
I would go for that hands down.

752
00:43:20.039 --> 00:43:23.360
And it's in Persian as well, so you've seen it, yes,

753
00:43:23.639 --> 00:43:24.960
Farsi rather than Persian.

754
00:43:25.719 --> 00:43:29.079
I have seen it. And it's a German production because

755
00:43:29.119 --> 00:43:32.400
there was no money to produce the film in Iran,

756
00:43:32.480 --> 00:43:34.719
and of course, as you said, Sandy, the director was

757
00:43:34.760 --> 00:43:38.239
not able to make the film legally, so Germany stumped

758
00:43:38.320 --> 00:43:42.119
up all the money. That's why it's a German entry.

759
00:43:42.800 --> 00:43:45.719
And look, I would like Seed of the Sacred Fig

760
00:43:45.840 --> 00:43:50.719
to win, and my backup is Amelia Perish.

761
00:43:51.159 --> 00:43:56.599
Okay, that's yeah, Well again, I wonder you don't think

762
00:43:56.599 --> 00:43:58.760
I'm still he is going to again. I thought there

763
00:43:58.760 --> 00:44:01.719
was a remarkable You don't think that's going to feature.

764
00:44:02.960 --> 00:44:05.159
I don't think so. I think it was a late

765
00:44:05.400 --> 00:44:09.440
entry to some extent. And there's no buzz from variety

766
00:44:09.519 --> 00:44:13.800
about the film in terms of winning an award, so

767
00:44:14.440 --> 00:44:18.039
I don't know. It looks a lot of these awards

768
00:44:18.039 --> 00:44:21.599
are wide open and expect surprises. But yeah, I'll go

769
00:44:21.639 --> 00:44:22.639
with Seat of Sacred Fig.

770
00:44:22.719 --> 00:44:23.239
With the media.

771
00:44:23.280 --> 00:44:24.239
Peis is back up.

772
00:44:24.360 --> 00:44:26.719
And I haven't seen it, but because of the chat

773
00:44:26.760 --> 00:44:28.559
around it, I think the Seat of the Sacred Fig

774
00:44:28.639 --> 00:44:33.039
seems to be the popular fancy. In terms in terms

775
00:44:33.079 --> 00:44:39.039
of the Oscar best cinematography, it's always a challenging one,

776
00:44:39.920 --> 00:44:43.199
and this is one where I think a film like

777
00:44:43.320 --> 00:44:47.360
Dune Part two, which looks pretty spectacular, could fare pretty well.

778
00:44:47.480 --> 00:44:50.760
You've got the brutalist Lowell Crawley, you've got June Part two,

779
00:44:50.800 --> 00:44:57.599
Greg Fraser, Amelia Perez, Paul Glame, Maria ed Lachman, which

780
00:44:57.679 --> 00:45:01.800
I thought was actually a disappointing film, not good, could

781
00:45:01.800 --> 00:45:06.159
have been and nos Ferratu, which was quite again I

782
00:45:06.440 --> 00:45:11.840
didn't particularly love it, but it certainly was atmospheric. Jaron Blashkey.

783
00:45:15.000 --> 00:45:18.400
I suppose, I'm I'm thinking maybe June Part two. What

784
00:45:18.480 --> 00:45:19.360
do you think, Pete.

785
00:45:19.840 --> 00:45:23.599
I think brutalists will win cinematography because of its use

786
00:45:23.639 --> 00:45:26.079
of camera angles and different approaches.

787
00:45:26.320 --> 00:45:30.960
Sorry, yeah, we're talking. Yeah, perhaps perhaps correct. Maybe I'm

788
00:45:30.960 --> 00:45:34.320
confusing production design or whatever with it.

789
00:45:34.400 --> 00:45:37.280
Yeah, I think June will win visual effects.

790
00:45:37.039 --> 00:45:39.840
Visual effects. Yes, that's sorry, that that's what I confused

791
00:45:39.840 --> 00:45:43.039
it with. Yes, you're quite right, because with visual effects,

792
00:45:43.159 --> 00:45:46.480
Alien Romulus better Man June Part two Kingdom of the

793
00:45:46.480 --> 00:45:49.039
Plant of the Apes and Wicked. Yes, I agree. I

794
00:45:49.039 --> 00:45:50.920
think that's the one that I confused it with, So

795
00:45:51.039 --> 00:45:54.599
I'll go Brutalist as well, Sandy, for there's Brutalist.

796
00:45:54.639 --> 00:45:58.239
For cinematography, I'd actually go nos Ferratu. I thought that

797
00:45:58.320 --> 00:46:03.360
was fabulously shot, and you know you mentioned Maria. I

798
00:46:03.400 --> 00:46:06.199
don't understand why it's been re released about a month

799
00:46:06.239 --> 00:46:09.320
after it was previously released. Is that to coincide with

800
00:46:09.360 --> 00:46:09.840
the Oscars?

801
00:46:09.880 --> 00:46:13.320
Peter, Yes, it is. The producers decide to re release

802
00:46:13.400 --> 00:46:16.719
films if they get some nominations or whatever.

803
00:46:16.360 --> 00:46:19.559
And it might do better the second time around. Yes,

804
00:46:20.360 --> 00:46:24.280
and I think they'll be disappointed. Yes, I go nos Feratu.

805
00:46:24.480 --> 00:46:27.000
I'd like nos Feratu to win, but I think you're right.

806
00:46:27.000 --> 00:46:29.360
The Brutalist is going to sweep that one up. And

807
00:46:29.440 --> 00:46:32.800
for visual effects, I would absolutely have to go either

808
00:46:32.840 --> 00:46:36.159
Better Man or Wicked. They were fabulous. But then again,

809
00:46:36.199 --> 00:46:39.280
I think June Part two is going to get that too. Unfortunately.

810
00:46:40.000 --> 00:46:42.679
Now, what I want to do at this point, and again,

811
00:46:42.719 --> 00:46:46.280
there's all sorts of betting agencies that take a bet.

812
00:46:46.840 --> 00:46:48.239
I don't want to take a bet. But what I

813
00:46:48.280 --> 00:46:50.440
want to do is I want to give you the

814
00:46:51.599 --> 00:46:55.800
odds for the pictures, not that we're encouraging bettings. So

815
00:46:55.960 --> 00:46:59.480
folks don't think that I want to bet you want

816
00:46:59.480 --> 00:47:02.400
a bit in the There has been a year I

817
00:47:02.400 --> 00:47:06.280
picked everyone bar one in all the major categories. But

818
00:47:06.480 --> 00:47:10.639
it's rare, so you know, it doesn't It doesn't happen

819
00:47:10.679 --> 00:47:13.800
all the time. Now, I've got no idea about one,

820
00:47:14.320 --> 00:47:17.800
you know, one thing versus another. The one that I've

821
00:47:17.840 --> 00:47:20.519
looked at in the past, and this is overseas obviously,

822
00:47:21.159 --> 00:47:26.840
is something called odds checker o double ds checker, because

823
00:47:27.079 --> 00:47:31.039
that also talks about the history of the betting. I

824
00:47:31.039 --> 00:47:34.559
don't know why, and I'm just having a look here.

825
00:47:34.880 --> 00:47:37.119
The problem that I've got with this when I'm now

826
00:47:37.159 --> 00:47:40.800
looking at it is there are so many numbers here

827
00:47:40.800 --> 00:47:43.840
that I'm not sure what the current betting is based

828
00:47:43.880 --> 00:47:48.280
on based on this, I'm just having a look at

829
00:47:48.280 --> 00:47:50.280
the Well, we'll start there with the best picture. We

830
00:47:50.320 --> 00:47:53.760
may not go through all of them, but we we

831
00:47:54.639 --> 00:47:59.800
the There is a strange figure here which makes absolutely

832
00:47:59.800 --> 00:48:04.159
no sense to me. It basically has Conclave as the favorite.

833
00:48:05.360 --> 00:48:09.079
Well actually no, it's got Anora at nine to four on,

834
00:48:09.800 --> 00:48:13.480
which makes that the favorite. Anora is the favorite apparently

835
00:48:13.599 --> 00:48:18.239
for Best Picture. Conclave is the second favorite at three

836
00:48:18.320 --> 00:48:22.039
to one, and then this is a really weird number,

837
00:48:22.559 --> 00:48:25.000
eight hundred and forty three over one hundred. I've never

838
00:48:25.039 --> 00:48:28.400
seen that eight and forty three, So that's sort of

839
00:48:28.840 --> 00:48:31.960
eight point four to three to one, right, and then

840
00:48:32.360 --> 00:48:36.239
then it blows out after that, very strange. I'm not

841
00:48:36.320 --> 00:48:37.960
clear on that at all. I think I'll take the

842
00:48:38.000 --> 00:48:42.960
previous numbers, which were Anora number one, Conclave number two,

843
00:48:43.199 --> 00:48:47.199
the Brutalless number three are complete unknown at number four

844
00:48:47.360 --> 00:48:49.760
and that was fifty to one, and you can forget

845
00:48:49.760 --> 00:48:53.800
the rest, right, So does that surprise you that Anora

846
00:48:53.920 --> 00:48:54.599
is the favorite?

847
00:48:55.239 --> 00:48:59.559
No, it doesn't, you, Peter No, because it won the

848
00:49:02.159 --> 00:49:05.760
I just think that Good Yeah is the best really not.

849
00:49:06.079 --> 00:49:09.360
Best film, sorry for Mikey Madison. So there's a lot

850
00:49:09.360 --> 00:49:14.159
of love for Anora with the British Academy, and there's

851
00:49:14.199 --> 00:49:17.199
a lot of crossover membership of the British Academy and

852
00:49:17.320 --> 00:49:17.800
the Oscars.

853
00:49:18.679 --> 00:49:21.639
Well, okay, so the next category just happened to be

854
00:49:21.760 --> 00:49:28.679
up is the Best Actor, and basically the Adrian Brady

855
00:49:28.719 --> 00:49:31.280
is a very short priced favorite five to two on

856
00:49:32.039 --> 00:49:39.039
versus two two for Timothy Schallamey Ray fines fourteen to

857
00:49:39.159 --> 00:49:46.239
one as the third favorite for Conclave. So even though

858
00:49:46.639 --> 00:49:51.400
you guys seem to be favoring, very favoring that best actress,

859
00:49:51.960 --> 00:49:57.039
well you'll be very pleased to know. Yeah, absolutely, seven

860
00:49:57.119 --> 00:50:00.599
to four on compared to twos for Mickey Addison, So

861
00:50:01.000 --> 00:50:04.400
Demi's the favorite, and then twelve to one for Fernanda

862
00:50:04.400 --> 00:50:07.199
toroies I'm still here, and then it goes on from there.

863
00:50:07.719 --> 00:50:12.960
Then okay, it's interesting how the various categories are not

864
00:50:13.039 --> 00:50:15.840
necessarily in the order that I would have expected them

865
00:50:15.840 --> 00:50:22.760
to be. I'm not sure why oscars and they where's

866
00:50:22.800 --> 00:50:27.280
the best director? Why can't I find out best director?

867
00:50:27.480 --> 00:50:31.559
Oscar with this thing best Animated Feature while I'm fiddling

868
00:50:32.400 --> 00:50:35.440
best actor? Best director? Here it is best director, it's

869
00:50:35.480 --> 00:50:39.480
a category lower down the page. So best director a

870
00:50:39.599 --> 00:50:44.079
Nora at nine to four on with the Brutalist at

871
00:50:44.159 --> 00:50:49.880
second at thirteen over eight, thirteen over eight, And then

872
00:50:50.559 --> 00:50:55.880
is this I find this best director? And then and

873
00:50:55.920 --> 00:51:00.280
then and then Emilia Perez at twenty to one, so

874
00:51:00.880 --> 00:51:04.159
and Nora versus the Brutalist for the best director category.

875
00:51:04.800 --> 00:51:07.800
Then we have got one. Are the others best? I

876
00:51:07.840 --> 00:51:11.280
bet best supporting actress and supporting actress, we need to

877
00:51:11.320 --> 00:51:15.800
go to best supporting actress. I'll start with and I

878
00:51:15.840 --> 00:51:19.400
reckon this is going to be Zoe absolutely twenty five

879
00:51:19.480 --> 00:51:24.719
to one on. She's basically you put on twenty five

880
00:51:24.760 --> 00:51:26.320
bucks and you get a cent or something like that

881
00:51:26.400 --> 00:51:29.679
for it. If I've got that right, And Ariana Grunde

882
00:51:29.920 --> 00:51:32.280
for Wicked after that at ten to one, and Isabelle

883
00:51:32.599 --> 00:51:36.760
Rosalini for Conclave that's after that, So Ameli has got

884
00:51:36.760 --> 00:51:40.079
that sewn up. And I would be surprised if when

885
00:51:40.119 --> 00:51:43.639
I click onto this page it won't be Kieran Culcan

886
00:51:44.159 --> 00:51:48.039
even more forty one to one on for Kieran Culcan,

887
00:51:48.519 --> 00:51:52.000
ed that's amazing. Edward Norton twelve to one. Tell you what,

888
00:51:52.039 --> 00:51:54.400
you'd be pretty disappointed if you were Kieran Culkin. You

889
00:51:54.440 --> 00:51:57.280
went along to the awards and you didn't win a.

890
00:51:57.840 --> 00:52:01.000
Except those betting agencies are very much like horse racing.

891
00:52:01.920 --> 00:52:04.039
The favorite does not necessarily go to win.

892
00:52:04.559 --> 00:52:07.679
But has Kieran Culkin not won one of the major

893
00:52:07.719 --> 00:52:12.960
awards in this area? I thought he'd won everything he has, Yeah, right, okay,

894
00:52:13.400 --> 00:52:15.880
and I think I'm not sure about a million PA

895
00:52:16.280 --> 00:52:21.559
pair is what about Zoey has as well as as well? Yeah? Exactly, okay,

896
00:52:21.679 --> 00:52:26.039
so best animated feature. I think I'll go there next.

897
00:52:26.320 --> 00:52:29.519
In terms of the odds, not surprisingly three to one

898
00:52:29.519 --> 00:52:32.920
on the Wild Robot, and then nine or four is

899
00:52:33.039 --> 00:52:38.639
Flow and inside Out. Wow. No, that's that's an outsider,

900
00:52:39.000 --> 00:52:42.280
as his memoir of a snail, So just.

901
00:52:42.199 --> 00:52:44.840
The way to back an outside? Do I like an underdog?

902
00:52:45.519 --> 00:52:48.960
I think? I think that's very it's very worthy. Sandy Well,

903
00:52:49.360 --> 00:52:51.920
I hate to say this, folks, but we're almost out

904
00:52:51.920 --> 00:52:54.079
of time. So is there any other trivia that you

905
00:52:54.119 --> 00:52:56.639
want to throw in or any other thoughts about the Oscars?

906
00:52:56.760 --> 00:52:58.920
Do you think, Peter, I'll ask you this. Do you

907
00:52:58.960 --> 00:53:01.239
think that the host what's his name.

908
00:53:01.039 --> 00:53:03.559
Again, Honan O'Brien correct?

909
00:53:03.559 --> 00:53:05.840
Do you think he's going to do a decent job? Yes?

910
00:53:05.880 --> 00:53:08.559
I do. He's remember seeing some of his shows, and

911
00:53:08.840 --> 00:53:17.440
he's a very clever, astute, well researched interviewer as well

912
00:53:17.480 --> 00:53:20.360
as hosts, so I think he'll be fine and we should.

913
00:53:20.480 --> 00:53:23.079
Speaking of boskers, what about the two time Oscar winner

914
00:53:23.119 --> 00:53:24.400
Gene Hackman, who just died?

915
00:53:24.480 --> 00:53:27.119
Yeah, so sorry, yes, I meant to. I mean that

916
00:53:27.239 --> 00:53:30.320
was shocking that was shocking, is what sixty three sixty

917
00:53:30.320 --> 00:53:32.599
four year old wife was there one of the three.

918
00:53:33.079 --> 00:53:34.920
Is that the bit that you think is shocking that

919
00:53:35.000 --> 00:53:37.280
he's him at ninety five is married to a sixty

920
00:53:37.320 --> 00:53:37.840
three year.

921
00:53:37.679 --> 00:53:39.920
Old No, not at all. No, no, the fact that

922
00:53:39.960 --> 00:53:43.360
they were no, no, no comment on the age gap

923
00:53:43.400 --> 00:53:45.719
at all. It was more that they all were all

924
00:53:45.800 --> 00:53:49.360
died in different rooms and whatever.

925
00:53:49.800 --> 00:53:51.519
Mystery yet to be sold, isn't it?

926
00:53:51.519 --> 00:53:54.000
It is well, I mean they've said there's two options

927
00:53:54.039 --> 00:53:56.840
at this point, there were two likely options. One was

928
00:53:57.119 --> 00:53:59.599
gas and the other one was what was the thing?

929
00:53:59.719 --> 00:54:08.039
The other the other pardon me, pills filled pills? No, no, no, no, no, no murder.

930
00:54:08.920 --> 00:54:13.079
Oh no, golly, you're going No. Both of them were

931
00:54:13.840 --> 00:54:19.199
clear substances that that suddenly started appear, That appeared, and

932
00:54:19.360 --> 00:54:23.239
they died without even knowing it kind of thing. Yes,

933
00:54:24.840 --> 00:54:27.400
I don't think that that's no likely.

934
00:54:30.119 --> 00:54:30.639
That's funny.

935
00:54:31.599 --> 00:54:35.400
Yeah, I think it's it's very very sad. I mean

936
00:54:35.400 --> 00:54:38.719
it really sad that, yes, and it doesn't matter what age.

937
00:54:38.760 --> 00:54:40.880
It's interesting. One of his daughters said he was in

938
00:54:40.920 --> 00:54:43.800
good health. The last photo of him, he didn't look

939
00:54:43.840 --> 00:54:46.679
like he was in good health. Did you see that

940
00:54:46.679 --> 00:54:47.400
photo for a year.

941
00:54:47.679 --> 00:54:52.280
Yes, well, yeah, I always don't like speculating about health

942
00:54:52.320 --> 00:54:54.079
of people. I mean, it's just a shame that he's

943
00:54:54.159 --> 00:54:56.159
died and has such a great body of work.

944
00:54:57.519 --> 00:55:03.760
Carbon monoxide poison that was the And again it depends

945
00:55:03.800 --> 00:55:06.000
on what you read as to the age of his wife,

946
00:55:06.000 --> 00:55:08.920
but you know with it sixteen three, sixty four, sixty five,

947
00:55:08.960 --> 00:55:12.480
that doesn't matter. It's the fact that, you know, if

948
00:55:12.480 --> 00:55:15.039
somebody was going to live longer and then died in

949
00:55:15.079 --> 00:55:19.519
these circumstances, very very shocking. We got to go. We've

950
00:55:19.519 --> 00:55:23.119
got to go. Let's let's circle the wagons and see

951
00:55:23.119 --> 00:55:26.199
how we did. Enjoy the Oscar ceremony at the Nova.

952
00:55:27.000 --> 00:55:29.519
You can be bitter and twisted. You weren't invited about it, Sandy,

953
00:55:29.719 --> 00:55:34.519
but Net, thank you, Thank you both for your contributions,

954
00:55:34.559 --> 00:55:37.239
and wish you well for the weak ahead, and we'll

955
00:55:37.239 --> 00:55:39.840
do it all again very soon. On First On Film

956
00:55:40.079 --> 00:55:41.199
and Entertainment,
