Oi oi, Black here.
Let me illuminate you peasants about some stereotypical archetypes of the detective.

There’s the Boozehound, or the Morose.
Some stories really lean into the dark side of the detective’s life, showing them as wrestling with booze, depression, or other inner demons. Y’know, all that fun stuff.
Sure, it gives them depth, but it also plays into some tired old cliches.

And there’s also the Hard-Boiled, the Classic, the Sleuth. Yeah, the archetype that everyone thinks of - rugged and world-weary. Usually sporting a fedora and a cigarette. They’re quick with the sharp one-liners and hide a surprisingly soft heart beneath that rough exterior.

Me, personally, I don’t really take part in these categorizations, so I stay out of trouble sometimes. Actually… never – I don’t.
