Sexual age of consent in Australia in 1984 was 16
In 1905, New South Wales established the Children's Court, which changed the way the law had previously dealt with children, who mostly committed crimes (and still do) out of desperation and poverty. In 1910 New South Wales increased the age of consent from 14 to 16 years, where it remains

A ‘Shero’ that we all need
I found Laura Richard’s podcast very randomly. I was reading about a comedian’s story of surviving an abusive ex-husband and someone recommended Crime Analyst in the comments! I’m so glad I found it. I have learnt so much about victim advocacy and coercive control. Laura’s in depth analysis is exactly what stories of true crime should sound like - keeping the victims front and centre and giving zero glorification to perpetrators.

It's a personal preference about the running episodes. IF I knew how to get the episodes to play on to the next episode, maybe then it would be better. This kind of style is more appropriate, imho, for those who never followed the trial and youtube. There are a few singles I can listen to which are long and well done.

Laura Richards is my hero!
This is hands down one of my favorite true crime pods. Laura Richards does an incredible job of keeping the victims/survivors first and foremost, while also giving a deep dive into the behavior and psychology of the offenders. I’ve truly learned so much from her!

The expert who centres women
Laura knows her stuff, has made actual changes to UK policing and always puts victims (usually women) at the forefront. I find myself hearing her voice when reading or hearing other things in life which point to coercive control or other red flags. She’s a force for good.

Must Listen!
I have learned so much listening to Laura Richards. She does not mince words, gets right to the heart of the matter with an expertise in domestic violence/coercive control that is crystal clear. The things she points out are easy to see once you hear it, it’s as if you’ve known these things all along, but she is giving a very articulate account you can absorb. She’s an expert worth putting in your ears. Anyone who cares about improving/preventing domestic violence & violence against women, this is a must listen.

This is one of the best podcasts I’ve ever listened to. It is incredibly well-researched and well- presented. Laura is an absolute trailblazer, listening to her is truly inspirational. As a woman who is a survivor of domestic abuse and coercive control, as well as a trained specialist in the field, I find every episode to be akin to a continuing education course. I am blown away by Laura’s passion, advocacy, and incredibly nuanced understanding of the domestic abuse/ violence against girls and women epidemic. The fact that she so willingly shares her knowledge is a gift to us all- survivors, members of the professional community, and laypeople alike. Listen to just one or two episodes, and you’ll realize that there are very few among us who have not been impacted in one way or another.

Important Podcast
Just started listening to this podcast a few days ago. Laura Richards is extremely professional, thorough and compassionate in her reportings. She has clearly done her research and opened my eyes to the way crimes against women and girls have been and often time still are disregarded/reported. Looking forward to many more episodes. Your expertise shines through and I’ve learned so much about coercive control, himpathy, patriarchy and misogyny that I can take forward in all areas of my life.
Analysing the crime with the victim as central has showcased the awful lives so many women live with and hide daily and I’d love to see a world where women can live safely and in comfort. This podcast helps achieve this.
I’ve listened to cases i’d never heard about in my patch of the world (Australia) and wish that all states here hear your words and make necessary changes.

This show should be required in High Schools
I could listen to Laura read an inventory report or recipe as I love her accent. More importantly she is an advocate for women and is educating the public one episode at a time. If every teenage girl and boy could learn from her message, many crimes would be prevented.
