Brilliant podcast
Laura ensures that she sets the victim or survivor first and central to their stories and refocuses the narrative often given by media or police. She provides an extensive and thorough analysis of well known and less well known crimes, bringing it to the public attention.
Laura was a key driver in the bringing forward legislation for coercive control to be a crime in the UK and is working towards this in other parts of the world, including the US. Laura is a powerful advocate for women and demonstrates through her analysis , that the police and wider court and criminal justice system do not work for women & remains largely seeped in the patriarchy.

Not just any true crime show
Laura Richards isn’t just any true crime podcast host. She is a leading expert on forensic psychology, domestic violence and is at the forefront of advocacy for changing the laws on coercive control in many countries including my own, Australia. She has worked for New Scotland Yard. In short, she is the best host we could ask for. She goes deep into analysis of the crimes she examines and sheds new light on the criminal behaviour while always keeping focus on the victims at the heart of the crime. I first heard Laura on Real Crime Profile with the legendary Jim Clemente, former FBI Behavioural Analyst. Now I’m delighted to hear her on Crime Analyst and I feel privileged that she has examined some key cases in Australia. Thank you Laura for this fantastic podcast and for all that you do on behalf of us. The world is a better, safer place because of you.

Excellent podcast, interested to listen next to your take on Alex Murdaugh. I have followed Mandy Matney and Liz Farrell since they started the Murdaugh Murders Podcast (now True Sunlight) I think this one has the same compassionate qualities and focus on truth telling.

This is incredibly informative and covers very important topics. Laura takes her work very seriously and is amazing at getting the message out about coercive control and make on female violence. I feel lucky to have access to so much information from such a respected expert.

Sort the feed
I enjoy Laura’s insight an in-depth analysis however the experience of listening can be difficult with so much jumping about from one case to the other and then back to the previous one. Also hard to find the latest episode, this is the only podcast I know where the episodes are sorted from oldest to newest meaning you have to scroll for hours just to find the latest one, it’s painful. Content-wise it is very interesting.

I love listening to Laura, she is intelligent and engaging. I feel I have learnt a lot from her postcard including Real Crime Profile. Laura is a strong advocate for women. You can trust that she will give a valuable and insightful analysis of the cases she covers. Many people could learn a lot from listening.

Laura focusses on the most important things. She points out the crucial parts and her timelines are so good but she says listen to this so we, the listeners can hear it for ourselves and make our own minds up. She helps us be aware of things that are unjust and simply outrageous and unbelievable to have occurred in the justice system. She finds and points out the flaws in the investigations and she corrects the way victims can be or have been perceived. She makes a difference for the families affected by the crimes. She refuses to perpetuate the sensationalism the media affords disgusting criminals who should be forgotten. She teaches the world how things should be done to honour victims and dishonour perpetrators. I understand coercive control more through listening to Laura and her guests. I value every episode I hear.

Excellent!
Excellent. If you have an interest in anything true crime related, this is one of the best around. Having binged on Real Crime Profile, I started on Crime Analyst and I’m hooked. Laura Richards is a highly respected expert wearing many hats including Criminal Behaviour Analyst, Advocate and Campaigner who has worked at New Scotland Yard and the FBI. She is internationally renowned as an expert on domestic violence.
Her approach is informative yet accessible and her interviews are honest and natural. Episode 35 is one of my favourites so far where she talks to
Amanda Knox. Very enlightening and showing a side that I haven’t seen in the many programmes and articles that have been written over the years.
Her presentation style is easy on the ear without being over dramatic. You feel like she is chatting to you rather than lecturing.
I am glad to find this podcast and I would recommend giving it a listen. You won’t be disappointed.

I have learned so much and as a parent of teens I am telling all my friends how vulnerable our girls are at this age. I didn’t think I had to worry about punks until Gabby’s story. You think you would know a murder if u saw one. Oh how my eyes are wide open.

Laura really gets it
I can’t tell you how refreshing it is, after 30 years, to finally hear factual, nuanced, expert discussions about the Menendez Murders case, as opposed to let’s-quickly-Google-this, myth-laden, prosecution-biased episodes that serve only to perpetuate the old 1990’s greedy-rich-kids narrative. I am saying this as a first trial juror who voted for manslaughter, not murder (and wrote a book about it), not just because I was Laura’s guest on episodes 146 &147. #justiceforerikandlyle #hungjury

Content great; presentation needs work
I have now listened to 22 episodes of the Peter Sutcliffe series and have greatly appreciated the emphasis on the victims, both for the purpose of understanding the crimes and criticising the investigation, and also out of simple compassion for the victims and their families. The investigation was so riddled by misogyny and so much in the power of those at the top of the police hierarchy that it is no surprise that later reviews of it were buried. LR has done a wonderful job of disintering it and dismembering it. I do find her presentation irritating at times, though. She blows her own trumpet too much and reminds us too often that she was an outstanding detective. She mispronounces words (including the word ‘pronunciation’ itself lol), uses ‘literally’ to mean “thoroughly, maximally, deeply” and ‘deconstruct’ to mean “analyse, dissect”, misuses ‘in vitro’ and ‘in vivo’, mistranslates ‘habeas corpus’, and never uses one word when three will do. Her interviews are too often Laura herself talking and talking and repeating herself while the person being interviewed barely gets a word in edgeways. I have no doubts about her expertise and experience but she really, really needs an editor who is not herself. The worst thing, however, is the way the ads for sponsors appear without any warning and usually in the middle of a complex bit of narrative and often when the topic is disturbing, the result being that they are hopelessly jarring.

More than a Podcast…Best Training of My Career
I have been in law enforcement for over two decades, and am now in the role of detective. I specialize in crimes against women and children. For more than a year now, I have binged every episode of Laura’s, both here and on Real Crime Profile. She has filled in the gaps with what was missing in all my years of training at work by helping me better understand the perpetrators and centering the victims. I listen to her every morning during my commute, and incorporate her wisdom into my police reports. Thanks to what I learned from her, I recently charged a DV suspect with stalking, and he immediately plead guilty. This was not only the first stalking arrest of my career, but the first time it was ever charged in our municipal court. Without Laura opening my eyes to what most of us miss, this guy would’ve gotten away with it, and would’ve continued his escalating stalking tactics, or worse. Her passion is contagious, and she is the missing link that all investigators need to learn from to better help victims and prevent future crimes. Thank you doesn’t seem like enough, but I can’t say how grateful I am for the work you are doing, Laura!
