Tell Your Truth Thursday

Tell Your Truth Thursday
We all have a store to tell and who better to tell your story than you. But for whatever the reason you may be hesitant to share your truth. What I have found is that once you open and share your truth it empowers others to do the same. Staying silent is what empowers abusers and shields them from having to be confronted with their tragic offenses perpetrated on innocent victims; meanwhile the victims are left broken having to deal with the stain and shame from the traumatic experience. As a kid I was abused by an adult within the NYC Public School system. I thought it was my fault, at the time I had no idea what was appropriate or inappropriate behavior. My parents didn’t talk about the birds and the bees Mets Jets or Sex-so we were left to explore on our own. When I finally did open up as an adult it was thrown back in my face. I can totally understand why Its easier to keep those feeling buried in a box. I literally felt like a knotted in a box. Which is what I called my bow tie company “Knots In A Box” because that’s exactly how I felt. Through the creative process and sharing I started to find relief. I continue to find relief through pursuing my dreams and empowering others to do the same. I never want to get to the place where I feel as though I’ve arrived so I’ll continue to strive and remain teachable. The Black Tux --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/derek-oxley/support
