Charles’ tour of Australia made international headlines after Indigenous Senator Lidia Thorpe staged a dramatic protest during a ceremonial event in Canberra. Thorpe, a well-known activist and independent senator, interrupted a speech by Charles, accusing the crown of genocide against Indigenous Australians. Wearing a traditional possum skin coat, Thorpe approached the stage, shouting, ““Our bones, our skulls, our babies, our people,” said Ms. Thorpe, as the guards backed her toward the door. “You destroyed our land.”This is not your country, you are not our king,” and demanded the return of stolen lands and a treaty with First Nations people.
Thorpe’s protest lasted over a minute, during which she fiercely condemned the monarchy’s colonial legacy, accusing them of destroying Indigenous lands and people. She was eventually removed from the hall but continued to shout as she left, calling the crown “genocidal” and exclaiming, “(Eff) the colony.” Later, she posted a cartoon depicting King Charles beheaded on her Instagram story.
The royal couple appeared stunned by the outburst, but Charles and Camilla continued with their schedule, meeting well-wishers afterward. The palace did not officially comment on the protest, but a source expressed gratitude for the large turnout of supporters.
Thorpe’s protest reignited conversations about Australia’s colonial history, with many Indigenous Australians pushing for a formal peace treaty. Thorpe reiterated her stance after the event, stating, “As First Peoples, we never ceded our sovereignty over this land. The crown invaded this country and committed genocide.”

A Calorougus Shark Media. Hello and welcome to Palace intrigue

2
00:00:12.720 --> 00:00:16.199
game your host, Mark Francis. Australia continues to be the

3
00:00:16.239 --> 00:00:20.640
place of, if not nightmares, maybe stress streams. For King Charles.

4
00:00:21.359 --> 00:00:25.199
Charles tour of Australian need international headlines after Indigenous senator

5
00:00:25.320 --> 00:00:29.600
Lydia Thorpe staged a dramatic protest during a ceremonial event

6
00:00:29.640 --> 00:00:33.640
in Canberra. Thorpe, a well known activist and independent senator,

7
00:00:34.000 --> 00:00:37.280
interrupted a speech by Charles accusing the Crown of genocide

8
00:00:37.320 --> 00:00:42.479
against Indigenous Australians. Wearing a traditional possum skin coat, Thorpe

9
00:00:42.520 --> 00:00:46.880
approached the stage shouting our bones, our skulls, our babies,

10
00:00:46.960 --> 00:00:50.640
our people, said Miss Thorpe, as the guards backed her

11
00:00:50.679 --> 00:00:53.840
towards the door. You destroyed our land. This is not

12
00:00:53.960 --> 00:00:56.520
your country. You are not our king, and demanded the

13
00:00:56.560 --> 00:01:00.399
return of stolen lands and a treaty with First Nations people.

14
00:01:00.799 --> 00:01:03.840
Thorpe's protest lasted over a minute, during which she fiercely

15
00:01:04.239 --> 00:01:08.640
condemned the monarchy's colonial legacy, accusing them of destroying Indigenous

16
00:01:08.719 --> 00:01:11.319
lands and people. She was eventually removed from the hall,

17
00:01:11.400 --> 00:01:13.799
but continued to shout as she left, calling the Crown

18
00:01:14.280 --> 00:01:18.159
genocidal and exclaiming f the colony. Later, she posted a

19
00:01:18.159 --> 00:01:23.000
cartoon depicting King Charles beheaded on her Instagram story. The

20
00:01:23.120 --> 00:01:26.079
royal couple appeared stunned by the outburst, but Charles and

21
00:01:26.079 --> 00:01:29.319
Camilla continued with their schedule, meeting well wishes afterward. The

22
00:01:29.359 --> 00:01:31.640
Palace did not officially comment on the protest, but a

23
00:01:31.680 --> 00:01:35.560
source expressed gratitude for the large turnout of supporters. Thorpe's

24
00:01:35.560 --> 00:01:40.000
protest reignited conversations about Australia's colonial history, with many Indigenous

25
00:01:40.000 --> 00:01:43.920
Australians pushing for a formal peace treaty. Thorpe reiterated her

26
00:01:43.959 --> 00:01:47.280
stance after the event, stating, as first peoples, we never

27
00:01:47.359 --> 00:01:50.200
seeded our sovereignty over this land. The Crown invaded this

28
00:01:50.280 --> 00:01:54.239
country and committed genocide. In the Daily Mail, Rebecca English

29
00:01:54.280 --> 00:01:57.439
described the scene. Even Prime Minister Anthony Albany is a

30
00:01:57.480 --> 00:02:00.120
lifelong Republican who set up it now to funct ministry

31
00:02:00.159 --> 00:02:03.319
to bring about separation from Crown, had taken to the

32
00:02:03.319 --> 00:02:06.359
stage to describe attending his coronation as one of the

33
00:02:06.400 --> 00:02:10.080
honors of my life. Suddenly the cardial bonomy of the

34
00:02:10.120 --> 00:02:13.479
Great Hall at Australian Parliament House was riven with the

35
00:02:13.479 --> 00:02:17.800
profanities of infamous indigenous rights campaigner and senator Lydia Thorpe

36
00:02:17.919 --> 00:02:21.479
live on television. Security officials acted quickly to remove her

37
00:02:21.520 --> 00:02:23.800
within just feet of the media, but the shock was

38
00:02:23.919 --> 00:02:26.719
palpable as guests struggled at first to work out what

39
00:02:26.840 --> 00:02:30.520
on earth was happening. However, as word quickly spread, members

40
00:02:30.560 --> 00:02:33.560
of the public and Australian colleagues began to roll their eyes.

41
00:02:34.159 --> 00:02:36.039
I know exactly who that is without even having to

42
00:02:36.039 --> 00:02:39.319
look at the footage side. One journalist resignedly to me

43
00:02:39.479 --> 00:02:42.639
before they peered at the video on my phone. Others

44
00:02:42.639 --> 00:02:44.560
said they would have put money on her pulling such

45
00:02:44.560 --> 00:02:48.000
a stunt. Interestingly, the King was, i am told, unruffled

46
00:02:48.039 --> 00:02:50.439
by the incident and is determined not to allow it

47
00:02:50.479 --> 00:02:54.479
to overshadow the wonderful welcome. He has received some other

48
00:02:54.520 --> 00:02:57.840
insights from Rebecca English. Everywhere we have gone, the crowds

49
00:02:57.840 --> 00:03:01.360
have been undeniably substantial. People wait for hours, even flying

50
00:03:01.400 --> 00:03:04.120
in from other far flung parts of the country to

51
00:03:04.159 --> 00:03:07.479
see the monarch in the flesh. Rebecca also added this

52
00:03:07.560 --> 00:03:10.400
eye opening note, but when you see him in the

53
00:03:10.400 --> 00:03:12.439
flesh as I did today, you could also see that

54
00:03:12.479 --> 00:03:15.800
he was genuinely tired and this year, with this relentless

55
00:03:15.800 --> 00:03:18.759
cycle of illness and treatment, not to mention the inevitable

56
00:03:18.840 --> 00:03:21.520
jet lag, has taken its toll. Later in the day,

57
00:03:21.599 --> 00:03:24.719
Senator Thorpe told Sky News, we have our bones and

58
00:03:24.759 --> 00:03:28.639
our skulls still in his possession or in his family's possession.

59
00:03:29.000 --> 00:03:31.560
We want that back, We want our land back, and

60
00:03:31.599 --> 00:03:34.080
we want your king to take some leadership and sit

61
00:03:34.120 --> 00:03:37.360
at the table and discuss a treaty with us. Nigunnerwah

62
00:03:37.520 --> 00:03:42.280
elder Auntie Violet Sheridan has publicly rebuked Thorpe's actions, stating

63
00:03:42.319 --> 00:03:44.840
that the Senator does not speak on behalf of her people.

64
00:03:45.400 --> 00:03:48.639
Auntie Violet, aged sixty nine, was part of the official

65
00:03:48.680 --> 00:03:51.000
greeting party for the royals and described her interaction with

66
00:03:51.080 --> 00:03:54.240
King Charles and Queen Camilla as heartfelt, saying I warmly

67
00:03:54.280 --> 00:03:58.199
welcome the Majesties tongnerwaal Land and also to Canberra. Lydia.

68
00:03:58.280 --> 00:04:01.000
Thorpe does not speak for me and my and I'm

69
00:04:01.000 --> 00:04:03.360
sure she doesn't speak for a lot of First Nations people.

70
00:04:03.439 --> 00:04:06.560
It was disrespectful to come there and go on like that,

71
00:04:06.639 --> 00:04:10.680
there's a time and a place. Sheridan acknowledged the historical

72
00:04:10.759 --> 00:04:14.120
trauma of colonization, but urged a more constructive approach, saying,

73
00:04:14.479 --> 00:04:16.439
we have a lot of unfinished business, but I don't

74
00:04:16.439 --> 00:04:19.240
want to be negative. Let's sit down and talk together

75
00:04:19.639 --> 00:04:23.639
for our next generations to bring healing. The royal visit

76
00:04:23.639 --> 00:04:27.759
has drawn protests from some First Nation's activists. Wayne Koko Wharton,

77
00:04:27.839 --> 00:04:30.800
a Kuma man, organized a day of resistance in Canberra,

78
00:04:30.879 --> 00:04:33.079
aiming to serve King Charles with a notice accusing the

79
00:04:33.079 --> 00:04:37.000
crown of genocidal crimes. Wharton was blocked from approaching the

80
00:04:37.079 --> 00:04:40.000
King and expressed his frustration, stating they don't own the

81
00:04:40.079 --> 00:04:42.879
genocide and the war crimes the King and his predecessors

82
00:04:43.120 --> 00:04:46.879
did on their behalf. As the tour continues, the tensions

83
00:04:46.920 --> 00:04:49.759
between the monarchy's legacy and the ongoing grievances of First

84
00:04:49.839 --> 00:04:53.959
Nations communities remain in the spotlight. Senator Ralph Babbitt wrote

85
00:04:53.959 --> 00:04:56.720
on social media, she hold abuse at our king. To

86
00:04:56.800 --> 00:04:59.920
show such utter disrespect to King Charles, who has travel

87
00:05:00.079 --> 00:05:05.079
to Australia despite ongoing cancer treatment is disgusting. Pallasentri could

88
00:05:05.079 --> 00:05:12.839
be right back Rain Spencer, Princess Diana's stepmother, passed away

89
00:05:12.959 --> 00:05:16.519
eight years ago yesterday, leaving behind a complicated legacy that

90
00:05:16.639 --> 00:05:18.959
is intertwined with both the royal family and the now

91
00:05:18.959 --> 00:05:24.879
disgraced Arod's tycoon Muhammed al Fayed. Known for her vivacious personality, Rain,

92
00:05:25.079 --> 00:05:29.120
Countess Spencer, married Diana's father, Earl Spencer, and ultimately became

93
00:05:29.160 --> 00:05:32.720
a trusted confidant to the late princess. In nineteen ninety six,

94
00:05:32.759 --> 00:05:35.879
Diana reportedly suggested to al fayeded at a party that

95
00:05:35.959 --> 00:05:39.639
Rain was a woman who could organize anything. Soon after,

96
00:05:39.759 --> 00:05:41.879
Rain was offered a position as a board director for

97
00:05:41.879 --> 00:05:44.959
Harold's International, where she worked until she became ill with

98
00:05:45.000 --> 00:05:48.120
cancer in twenty fourteen. During her time at Harold's, al

99
00:05:48.160 --> 00:05:51.600
Fayed praised her wealth of experience and dedication, saying, I

100
00:05:51.639 --> 00:05:54.800
am delighted Rain has accepted my invitation to join the board.

101
00:05:55.360 --> 00:05:58.439
Her first shift, at the age of sixty seven, saw

102
00:05:58.480 --> 00:06:01.040
her working an eight hour day at Harrod's International in

103
00:06:01.120 --> 00:06:04.519
Heathrow Airport. Rain expressed her excitement at her new role,

104
00:06:04.600 --> 00:06:07.040
saying I could not be more pleased to be embarking

105
00:06:07.120 --> 00:06:10.680
upon a job which is so exciting However, last month

106
00:06:10.720 --> 00:06:14.519
a BBC documentary revealed sexual assault allegations against al Fayed,

107
00:06:14.839 --> 00:06:18.079
who passed away at ninety four. Last year, Harod's, now

108
00:06:18.079 --> 00:06:21.680
owned by Carter, issued a statement expressing they were utterly

109
00:06:21.680 --> 00:06:26.160
appalled by the accusations and offered sincere apologies to his victims.

110
00:06:26.720 --> 00:06:30.240
Rain a self described perfectionist, was known for her meticulous planning,

111
00:06:30.360 --> 00:06:33.199
even organizing her own farewell dinner with thirty five close

112
00:06:33.240 --> 00:06:36.879
friends before her death on October twenty first, twenty sixteen.

113
00:06:37.120 --> 00:06:40.040
Despite her later years accomplishments, none of her step children

114
00:06:40.079 --> 00:06:43.040
from her marriage to el Spencer attended at funeral. The

115
00:06:43.120 --> 00:06:45.879
Countess was buried in North Sheen Cemetery and for years

116
00:06:46.079 --> 00:06:49.480
her grave remained marked only by a small wooden cross.

117
00:06:49.879 --> 00:06:52.519
Her children took longer than expected to commission the headstone,

118
00:06:52.600 --> 00:06:55.240
with her son Henry explaining that it was a process

119
00:06:55.279 --> 00:06:58.759
requiring great care. In twenty twenty one, a simple, elegant

120
00:06:58.800 --> 00:07:02.240
headstone was finally erected. It engraved with her title Countess

121
00:07:02.360 --> 00:07:05.959
Rain Spencer nineteen twenty nine to twenty sixteen, though it

122
00:07:06.000 --> 00:07:08.519
made no mention of the four children or grandchildren. Her

123
00:07:08.600 --> 00:07:11.439
daughter Charlotte described the memorial as a tribute to the

124
00:07:11.519 --> 00:07:15.079
love and affection Rain inspired in those who knew her,

125
00:07:15.800 --> 00:07:18.199
and the heavy inflights. Email us, who addresses the Palasindric
