Crown and Controversy: Kate Middleton
03 Hello and welcome to Palace Intrigue. I am your host, Mark Francis. Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor reportedly has a new girlfriend in Norfolk, with royal correspondent Tom Sykes claiming that the relationship began when she telephoned him and suggested they spend time together. Speaking to Paula Frolick on the Royalist podcast, Sykes attributed the story to an unnamed source. Apparently, according to my source, she rang him up out of the blue and said, You're on your own. So am I. How about we hang out together? And he bought it. She had his number because they're all mates through the hunting scene and through the posh scene. When Frolic asked whether the conversation had happened by video call, Sykes suggested it was more like an ordinary telephone call, joking that it's probably landlines in that part of Norfolk. Frolic had first reported the alleged relationship on her sub-stack last month, writing that Randy Andy is getting some hanky-panky. On the podcast, she said people had initially been sceptical before delivering a decidedly unflattering assessment of Andrew's appeal. Are things that desperate out in Norfolk that some chick's just going to be like, you know who's hot? That doughy guy with the horrific teeth and receding hairline. Creepy hands who just did an amazing photo shoot looking straight up his nose after his arrest.
26 She joked, what is going on with women in Norfolk? I mean, if your idea of getting some excitement action is... Hey, remember that guy who used to be called Prince Andrew and is now Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor? Hey, do you have his number? I think he and I could mesh. I would rather stay home and pluck my legs for the rest of my life, but that's okay, Tom. You know, some people have different tastes, and I don't mean to disparage. Loneliness is a curse, but dang, jaw dropped. Prince William is looking forward to returning to Mumbai next month. He is less confident about handling the spice. Speaking to BBC Asian Network ahead of the Earthshot Prize ceremony, he admitted, My spicy intake is pretty limited. I start sweating. It's terrible.
09 Interviewer Nikita Kander told him he would have to get a hold of that before the trip. William also has a Bollywood watch list to catch up on, and Karen Johar may have just helped him get started. The Prince of Wales has called the filmmaker an icon after meeting him in London and promised to check out one of Indian films. cinema's most beloved family drama, K3G. Asked by a journalist how it felt to meet one of Bollywood's biggest directors, William described the interaction as really cool and praised Johar for helping the initiative establish a stronger presence in India. William said, I mean, he's again an icon and he's been so helpful and kind of being able to help the Earthshot Prize land well in India. We want to make it a truly Indian Earthshot Prize. It's the biggest one we've done. A Welsh cake artist has spent two weeks sculpting Kate's likeness and has removed the nose twice in pursuit of the right result. Emma Jane Morris is preparing an edible sculpture of the Princess of Wales for Cake International, Birmingham's NEC, opening on November 6.
09 The head is ready. The rest of the princess is still to come. There's a lot of work still to do, Emma told Wales Online. The 56-year-old has previously recreated Charles, Queen Elizabeth, Michael Jackson and Angelina Jolie. For late, she built the head using Rice Krispies and marshmallows, then shaped the features with two kilos of modeling chocolate. The project also involves 50 kilos of sugar paste and edible sparkle. But getting a recognizable face takes more than the right ingredients. Emma said, I have loved every minute of making Kate. She is made with modeling chocolate and every part of her is hand sculpted. I started with building the face and then once that was done, I put the color on her face. I hand-matched each part of the headpiece and the earrings as well as the hairstyle. The build doesn't always go to plan because I wanted to get likeness.
58 Her nose came off twice as I wasn't happy with it. I got to the point where I wasn't happy at all so I cut the whole of the front of her face off. So this one has been a particular work of love because I wanted to get it exactly right. I chose Kate because I have loved making the royals over the years. From Tutankhamen, King Charles and Queen Elizabeth. It's been fascinating learning about the subjects and the lives they lead, plus giving the visitors a chance to stand beside historical figures in our royal family. Kate and William are adored by all. It will give the visitors the chance to have a picture with royalty. More Palace in just a moment. William and Kate's carriage through rainy Windsor looked thoroughly traditional. Inside it offered electric windows, heating and hydraulic suspension. The couple travelled in the Australian state coach during the Sultan of Oman's state welcome, sharing it with two senior members of his delegation. According to Royal Central, the carriage was a gift from the Australian people to Queen Elizabeth in 1988. It marked Australia's bicentenary, 200 years after the establishment of the first British settlement at Sydney Cove.
02 Its design has preserved the appearance of a ceremonial horse-drawn carriage while incorporating comforts absent from much older royal transport. On a wet October day, the enclosed cabin and heating had an obvious advantage. The contrast is the gold state coach, completed in 1762 for George III. That gilded carriage remains one of the monarchy's most recognisable ceremonial vehicles, but its grandeur does not make for a comfortable ride. The Royal Navy frigate on which Prince William served during a major Caribbean drugs seizure has been towed into Portsmouth, facing the prospect of being scrapped. HMS Iron Duke carried the future king during his naval attachment in the summer of 2008.
43 His five weeks aboard included routine duties, sharing a four-berth cabin with junior officers, and a helicopter flight during an operation that intercepted cocaine valued at £ 40 million. William was serving as an observer aboard a Lynx helicopter when a speedboat was intercepted northeast of Barbados. Around 900 kilos of cocaine were seized. Williams' duties included watchkeeping, ship handling, weapons and logistics planning, and preparations for disaster relief. Eighteen years later, the ship that provided the experience has completed her service. Iron Duke was commissioned in 1993 and retired in July this year as a cost-cutting measure. On Wednesday, Tuggs brought her past Portsmouth's Round Tower and into the naval base where she joins fellow retired frigate HMS Richmond. Richmond is being prepared for disposal. Iron Duke is also expected to be scrapped. Princess Anne has taken first place in the royal popularity rankings. According to YouGov, 67% have a positive opinion of the Princess Royal. Catherine follows on 64%, with William on 62% and Charles on 53%. Anne's negative rating is 7%. The figures measure whether people hold a positive opinion of each royal. They are not a vote in which respondents have to choose a single favourite, although they put Anne at the top of this particular list. Her appeal has long rested on a reputation for getting through the work without much fuss. Joe Little, managing editor of Majesty magazine, previously told Hello, the Princess Royal, with more
13 than a half a century of duty and experience under her belt, is regarded by her brother the King as the ultimate pair of safe hands. Her no-nonsense attitude and work ethic, which even in her seventies shows no sign of waning, has won her a lot of praise. not that she would seek it from the media and the public over the years. Edward also takes fifth place in the popularity rankings, followed by Sophie and then Zara Tindall. Camilla is eighth, the Duke of Kent ninth, and Harry tenth, with a positive rating of 29%. Further down the list are Eugenie, Lady Louise, Windsor and Meghan, followed by Beatrice, Princess Alexandra, the Duchess of Gloucester and the Duke of Gloucester. Sarah Ferguson ranks 18th on 11%, just ahead of Lady Margarita Armstrong-Jones on 10. In case you're curious, Lady Margarita Armstrong-Jones is Princess Margaret's granddaughter, the daughter of David Armstrong-Jones, the second Earl of Snowdon, and Serena, Countess of Snowdon.
10 She is Queen Elizabeth II's great-niece and King Charles' first cousin, once removed. Born in 2002, she was a bridesmaid at William and Catherine's wedding in 2011. She is not her working royal.
