Soul Surgery: Rebuilding Your Identity After Emotional Erasure

In this bonus coaching session, Coach Deborah breaks down the key insights from her conversation with author and filmmaker Nikki Allen, whose story of emotional erasure and recovery resonates with so many women healing from toxic relationships.

Deborah explores how emotional manipulation, love bombing, the charm–harm cycle, and self-doubt slowly silence a woman’s voice. She offers practical coaching steps to help you reconnect with your intuition, examine old wounds, release shame, and begin what she calls “soul surgery”—the deep internal work of rebuilding identity after betrayal.

This episode is for anyone recovering from emotional abuse, narcissistic dynamics, or a relationship where you lost yourself.

Welcome to another episode of Bent Not Broken. Heartbreak and trauma may feel like the end of your story, but here it's the beginning of a bold new chapter. I'm your host, Coach Deborah Griffiths, and this is the space where women rise, rebuild, and rediscover their purpose. Remember this truth. You are bent, not broken. Welcome back to this bent, not broken bonus coaching session. I'm Coach Deborah, and today we're diving deeper into the powerful and vulnerable conversation I had with Nikki Allen. If you listened to the full episode, you heard a story that reflects the reality of so many women. Relationships that didn't leave bruises on the skin, but left deep imprints on the heart. Relationships that slowly silenced intuition, isolated us from ourselves, and made us question our worth. Today I want to unpack some of Nikki's biggest insights and turn them into coaching tools you can use right now to support your own healing. Coaching insight number one. Emotional erasure happens slowly and quietly. Nikki described waking up every day feeling heavier, lonelier, and more confused, but still trying to make him happy. That's emotional erasure. And it so often happens so gradually you don't even notice until your voice is gone. Your coaching challenge, ask yourself, where am I shrinking to keep the peace? Where am I silencing myself to be loved? Awareness is the first cut of soul surgery. Coaching insight number two. The charm harm cycle is not love. The rose petals, the poems, the gifts, followed by criticism, withdrawal, emotional punishment. Nikki's story perfectly illustrated the charm-harm dynamic and why it keeps so many women hooked in relationships that hurt. Your coaching challenge? Write down one example of charm and one example of harm from your own past or present relationship. And then ask, does the harm erase the charm? Your body already knows the answer. Coaching insight number three. Intuition doesn't disappear. It gets buried. Nikki didn't leave immediately. Most women don't. But something shifted when her friend said, you're not ready to leave. And until you are, I can't keep hearing the same story. That tough love became her mirror. Your coaching challenge, ask yourself, what truth am I avoiding because it requires me to change something? And then what is the one tiny shift I can make this week to honor my intuition again? Healing starts with one small step toward yourself. Coaching inside number four. Soul surgery is deep work. Nikki went back into her childhood, her grief, her formative years. She asked hard questions. Why was I allowing this? What wound was this relationship feeling? That's soul surgery. And it's not done in one session, it's ongoing. Your coaching challenge? Sit quietly for five minutes and journal on this. What did I need most as a child that I'm still searching for today? Your patterns have a root, and once you see it, you can choose differently. Coaching inside number five. Release shame, embrace grace. Nikki said something so important. Don't shame yourself for staying. You made the best decision you could with the tools you had. Shame keeps you stuck. Grace sets you free. Your coaching challenge? Finish the sentence. I forgive myself for and then breathe. Your healing accelerates the moment forgiveness enters the room. If you feel broken, voiceless, or unsure of who you are, you are not alone. Nikki rebuilt her voice, and you can rebuild yours too. Healing isn't about perfection, it's about awareness, truth, grace, and the courage to choose yourself again and again. You are bent, not broken. And your next chapter starts the moment you say yes to your own truth. Thank you for listening to today's episode of Bent, Not Broken. I hope that this episode reminded you that even through life's toughest moments, you are bent, not broken.
