Can you believe I'm so excited to see you. I'm very excited to see you. It's been a long time. we'll talk about why we were taking a break and what was going on too, but how have you been? Been good. you know, I I feel a little isolated 'cause I work from home. Right. So I feel like I'm missing out on something. So I'm trying to make an effort to get out when possible. to go swell the neighborhoods or go for a walk or whatever. but it's the mix of meetings and volunteer stuff and run and ragged and and a trip that I took recently with my mom. Yes. And which was really fun. Yes. And just I think like you, a little I'm a mixed bag of things, right? Uhhuh. Hi highs, lows and everything in between. hots, colds, l highs, lows. This is and that's and there's so much to talk about. So should we do our our intro now or should we do it when we come back? Well, as I said off camera, what we started with was a little amouse bouche. Yes. So why don't you serve up the appetizer by doing the intro? Okay, well why don't you spell amoose boosh first and then it'll start the intro. A M-O-O-G. Anyway Welcome to the Don and Gary Doing60 what is it? The welcome to the Don and Gary Doing60 Podcast. We're here to unwrap and unpack and navigate the world at you know what? Our age. Say it. You can find us on all the apps, Apple Podcasts, Spotify. You can get a load of us on YouTube at Don and Gary Doing60. And our Instagram, of course, is Don and Gary Doing60. Well, we're back. Like a couple of Halloween decorations got left out in the garage for a year. Don and Gary have finally emerged from retirement again like a pair of expired pumpkins. We may be a little bit older and a little softer, but we're still here. We've gone so long, some of our listeners have already renewed their prescriptions for all their drugs. And this is the Don and Gary Doing Sixty Podcast. Welcome back. Welcome back to you. I gotta cut some of that out. No, just just add in some cobwebs and things that'll just fit into the But i w it's been a while, right? We talked like a little short of two months, right? Yeah. Okay, so it's a long time. Yeah. So what are we gonna talk about today? Well, I mean I think the book is gonna catch up of what where we've been, what we've done. Yes. What we haven't done. what we'd like to do. What we're gonna do. I've what we should have done. Right. And we're like shouldn't have done. And then maybe some ideas of some upcoming topics. I have one in particular well actually two in particular I want to talk about. Okay. That we will elaborate on in future episodes, but just give you a little taste, a little you know Chef's kiss. Well chef's kiss. Okay. So I guess can we also talk about what we're going to reveal when we come back from the break? Well, if they're on YouTube watching, they'll be able to see without us saying a word. Okay. If you're listening, you can only imagine we'll have to tell you about it. Okay. Okay. So how's that? Okay, that's that's a c so we'll take a little break, we'll do a little shimmy shimmy cocoa pop, and we'll come right back. Yes. Okay, perfect. All right. And we're back. We're back. We're back. I can if you since you can't see us if you're not on YouTube, I can tell you what I am, but I'm trying to figure out what you are. And you're puzzling me. Yes, I am. I'd like to be puzzling because I always like to do the ironic ones that you have to think about. Yes. And this is a lot more work. And it's kind of a sidekeg because obviously I'll go f I'll just describe myself first for those who are not watching us. But basically I have a halo and some angel's wings behind me. And as Gary said before, I've got some foliage. So there's some big autumn leaves here that you can see. I paid a lot of money for this costume. And it's kind of like not complete because I'm going to do a wig and makeup with it too. so you're not it's not complete. It's not well, I didn't want to wear everything. Okay. It's a little hot in here. Okay. So so I'll keep going. But Gary, what are you wearing? So you can describe that too. I am the Jack of Diamonds. Yeah, it's in the face card. I mean you can see there's a Jack over here and a diamond over here. Yes. This is one that I've had probably since the eighties. years ago, my good friend Stephanie and I and her now husband and another friend did the Beta Breakers, which is the famous walk and run through San Francisco every May. Yeah. And we're not runners, but we walked. And For those that walk a lot of people love to go in costume. So we were the King, Queen, Jack and Ace of Diamonds. Made a felt and she made all the costumes. Yes. and I've I've kept it all these years. So I've worn it every, you know, so often. and then accentuate with little I wear black underneath and with red shoes and red sunglasses. And then I don't know why, since it had been put away, you know, in a box, I thought, I need to get hat. Yeah. And for some reason I thought it didn't dawn on me that I'm not the king, I'm the Jack. But I went to the costume store like, get a crown. Yeah. And then I bought on like, you dumbass, you're not a king. You're the Jack. I should have bought like a Joker hat. Okay. But I didn't. So I said, Screw you, I'm the king of Jacks. I'm Jack King. Jack. Well King Jack. Okay. So I love it. Very good. And you're gonna be wearing this on Halloween, or what are you doing for Halloween actually? So this past Saturday, here in my building we had a Halloween party already. Mm for the community in our courtyard. I think because since this year it falls on a Saturday, I said that way the adults can leave the kids with the sitter and go out and get drunk is what I figured. But what I personally do every thing every thanks every Halloween is I go to my mom's house down the peninsula because her street always gets like hundreds of kids. Right. So I decorated her house last weekend in preparation for Halloween and I'll be out, giving out the candy. Sometimes I dress up in costumes, sometimes I don't, so yeah. Okay, well I'm gonna do do you have any guesses about what I am? Well, I mean I see the foliage and I see the halo. Yes. but I'm not making a connection into how they are related. Well let's let's let's Sh let's sound it out. So the seasons? No. No, but what is when does follow when does fall when does fall when does the foli when does the foli when does the foliage change color? On the twenty third? No. No. No. You're you're ruining my bit. What no. What season do the the leaves change color? Fall. Okay. And what am I what does the things on top of my head resemble? Or what is it? Like an angel. Okay. Fallen angel? Yes. I'm a fallen angel. Okay. I need to sound it out. That's very cute. I know. Now can I put it down? 'Cause it's hot. No, I think you should have it the whole time. Okay. Well I can I can take I gotta take these off 'cause ow, ow, ow. Okay. Okay. So these I'm gonna put on the wings. Yes. I like your wings. I like that they light up. Yes. And they blink slowly. Yes. Or they just stay on. So I'm gonna put over here. Okay. So I know it was a sidekeg, but I thought it was worth it. Now Should I keep my mazizzas covered with my foliage? Okay, well that I can do. Okay, so we'll do half a costume. But anyway, so let's talk. What have we been up to? my gosh. Okay. Well, I think it started at the end of August when we released the Desiree episode. Yes. And then soon after, either work or you got you got pulled into jury duty, right? Life, I'm telling ya. Jury duty. Have you you've done jury duty, right? I've done it before you many years ago. my gosh. Well, do you ever watch a series called The Good Wife? I'm hooked on the good wife. I love The Good Wife, yes. I'm obsessed with right now. We'll get into that another time. But this is nothing like The Good Wife because as I I had no idea I was gonna get selected to become part of the jury. But here's what happened. The first time I've sent a notice and summons, I forgot to call in. So of course they sent me another summons and I was called in immediately to come in and for jury selection. Sure. So I went through that. And then it it takes a long time actually sometimes because they set you down. We were sent to a room to wait to be called in. Right. And you sit there like you go in and wait for about an hour, and then they have a break at ten thirty for a half hour, and then you come back and wait another couple hours, and then there's a lunch break at twelve thirty for two hours. So for an hour and forty five hour and a half or something. Yeah. But we finally got called in. I got as far as being literally the one person before the alternate and they would have chosen the s the jury selection, but then one person excused themselves and guess who got put on the alternate seat? Yep. So I got sa sat on that and I I've never I just didn't know. And then they said, Okay, well, guess what? We're gonna take a week off from court before we come back and serve. So yes. So I took a week I had I took a week off and then I had to come report. And then they said, of course before that they tell you what the jury the the trial is about, how long they assume it might take. And at the end of the day, they actually said that was this is probably gonna take about three weeks. And I hadn't planned on that. I just thought, you know, I I didn't know. So I came back and then ultimately someone else got excused and I actually got got put into the jury because as an alternate, you don't get to participate in any part of it. Right. You're just sitting on the sidelines waiting in case. So can you imagine sitting through a three-week trial and then can't say anything or participate or even sit in on the deliberations? Right. Right. So in a way I thought I was lucky because I got to go in and sit on the deliberations. But I gotta say, it's it's a a long and tedious journey on a on a trial. So And more long and tedious the more complicated the case is, obviously. Correct. And this one was a little bit complicated, but also at the end of the day. I I since the the trial's over and the jury has been, it's done. I can't tell you. I was so surprised. They were asking for a a reward or award of twelve million dollars. Wow. So we don't have to go into the thick of it, but I gotta say, you know what? It's the whole thing is very real when it's talking about that much money and how much time and preparation is going into these trials. So anyway Anyway, so that was three weeks of my life I hadn't planned on losing. So literally that and that happened I think soon after we finished that last episode. I think you're right, yeah. so that was my thing. And then well what and what happened what was happening with you during those weeks? for me it was just I mean, just the usual work and my volunteer work. You some weeks are super busy and crammed with like as soon as I'm done with work, I gotta switch gears and do something else or go to a meeting or get on a Zoom. Right. and so that's off and on. And then I had made plans to go visit relatives in Mexico. Yeah. Because I'd not seen them. Some who had come to visit obviously had seen, but I hadn't been back there in probably fifteen years. And I was feeling really guilty. To to Mazzalon, which is the main town where most of my family lives. got it. I've been to Puerto Vallarta a couple of times, like a you quick weekend. but to visit with family, yeah, it was probably about fifteen years. So I was feeling very guilty because I'd do all these other trips, when are you gonna come visit us? well, no time, no money. And I said, No, I've gotta do it. I've gotta do it. Yeah. So I asked my mom if she'd like to go, 'cause I know that a lot of my cousins do not have the ability to come visit us, whether 'cause of work or just other commitments. So I thought it's easier if we go to them. Yeah. And and I go, They'd love to see you and I'd love to see them and so I I got my tickets many months ago and then I was just trying to convince her to go and it depending on what day and what time I talked to her was yes I want to go. No, I don't want to go. and this went on for months. and she felt the reason why she said no was she felt that I'm gonna hold you back, that you're gonna want to go off with your cousins and you're gonna be about like mom, I'm going to visit family. Right. I'm not going to hang out on the beach or go to the clubs. I wanna go see family. And they want to see you. Sure. And you granted she's ninety nine, so traveling, take her out of her element is not it it was a little touch and go a little bit. Okay. But when it came down to it the the morning that we had to leave, which was a super early morning flight out of San Francisco, was at five forty five A. Okay. So I stayed at her house the night before. We got up at three thirty, we were out the door by four to get to the airport. And then and we had a layover in in Phoenix, but other than that it was everything was fine. A little hot, yes, about ninety, super humid. It was like living in a sauna for five days. It didn't matter what time of day. 'Cause we stayed at a Marriott with a and we had a room with a balcony facing the beach. And you'd get up in the morning, whatever go to the bathroom, I'm gonna go open the balcony and go out on the fresh air of the balcony. Right. And four in the morning, open the door, and if the sauna goes to ten, this was a fifteen. It was like it didn't cool off at all. So no breeze from the ocean? You'd feel the breeze, but it was a hot, heavy, humid breeze. Gotcha. So and then one morning as we're waiting for my cousins to come pick me up, I let's just go out for a walk in front of the hotel, just go pop in a couple shops or something. Yeah. And We we lasted less than a block of no, it's too hot for me, so let's go back in. Okay. But on the fun side it was great to see a bunch of cousins, many of whom I had not seen. Well also, wasn't it a treat for your family to see your mom? 'Cause when was that on there? that was a huge actually if you th that's a momentous occasion actually. Well, she hadn't been. The last time she was in Guadalajara was eight years ago. And I think during that she was there for three months. I think during that period she may have popped over to Mausalon for a little bit. But eight years for her. And a small number of cousins had seen her by visiting us since then. But but no, but she enjoyed it. it was it was a lot of fun. And my favorite was the our last full day, which was a Friday. Twenty four of us got together for lunch. And just sitting wait, who how did you even coordinate that? Well, it started with you know, well let's do four of us. and Samson wants to and she wants to bring her brother and her sister and a brother. It just kept going on. Getting bigger. I well, I'm one of thirty-six grandchildren. Thirty-six grandchildren? So let's break it down. Mom is one of four siblings. She had four, her sister had four, one brother had thirteen, and one had fifteen. Okay. So add up all those kids as thirty-six kids. In Mazatlan, the uncle who had thirteen kids, that's where most of them lived. And of the thirteen Three have passed, one lives out of town. So nine of the thirteen were there at the at the lunch. And then you add in a couple other cousins and my mom's sister and the spouses and maybe a couple of kids. There were twenty four of us. It adds up very quickly. We did a back in two thousand and two thousand one, we did a family reunion two years in a row in Mazzalon. Yeah. And you look at the picture, it looks like a graduating class of a school. I mean, it's just like rows and rows of pe of Mexicans. Yeah. Well in ma in matching t shirts. so it's really fun. And my favorite part was standing at the one end of the table and just looking down the table and seeing all my cousins and their spouses and the kids. And it was just yeah, and then I see my mom with your sister. 'Cause I'm thinking, well, this could be her last trip, you know, to visit everyone. So it was a little sentimental, but also very sweet that, you know, everyone made the effort to get together and and everybody wanna see her and Yeah, and your mom too. I know it's not easy to travel sometimes and it's it's a little harder to get around, you know. So I mean you did remarkably well. I mean, we didn't walk we weren't outside walking a lot because it was just too damn hot anyway. I wouldn't have done it. Right. even if I were by myself. But you know, the cousins were great, you know, picking us up and taking us from point A to point B and but we were just with family every day. Nice. So it's just really, really fun. Good for you. I'm very excited for you. That was so and it was really, really wonderful to see so many of your family together. Yeah. Again, I know I knew I said it before, but it's much such a treat for your mom, too. Yeah. And for them, because it's been so long. And I think I do remember a picture of you, your mom with her sister. Yes. Is that right? That was really sweet. So Yeah, because her sister is in ninety-two or ninety-three, the rest of six or seven years apart. So she lives there. and it was funny that. That that one time they were walking out in front of the hotel, I like, Mom, it's just too wild, let's just turn around and go back and we're walking on the sidewalk and then a car goes by and then from out the window of the driving car, the Amparo My mom's name, Amparo. Yeah. it was one of my nephews who just happened to be driving by and saw No way. And yeah. I mean, they they they own a hotel and it's happens to be down the street from where we're staying. So it's not a total coincidence that they would be on that street. But it's just funny, the timing of it, right? Just right when we're walking by and I haven't seen them in years. Like, damn barola. You're such a good son, Gary. You're such a good son to coordinate all that. So good for you. That was wonderful. Yeah, and she did remarkably well considering the heat and the humidity and her age. But yeah. It it worked out really well. So I'm very happy with that trip. And you know what else we did need to talk about is that some of us allegedly had birthdays. Since we were gone into the my god, yeah, since our last release Yeah, because my birthday's on September 10th, so it was after that. So yes. Yes. We're both a little one year older. Yeah, well, speak for yourself. But yes. Don, how old are you? How old did you turn? Old enough to know better to answer that question. You can ask me. How old do you turn? I'm the same age as Don. I'm 64. I'm slowly embracing it. I truly am. I think, you know, that we've been doing this for what, a couple few years? A couple years? A few years, I forget. Yeah. I forget. I'm so old. But it's like, you know what? It's like it's time to really embrace it. I think it's truly time to celebrate every single year now that we're given. As long as they're given out birthdays, I'll take them, you know? It's like And then, I I'm just excited about what's coming up in the future for us because it's it's time to be grateful for all the good stuff that we have, Right. And it was I gotta tell my birthday. yeah. Well, do you wanna talk about your birthday first, real quick? so mine I wanted to do just a a small gathering of just friends that I want to hang out with. You were invited. you un unfortunately couldn't make it, but you were included in that group. thank you. And it ended up being eight of us for dr we went for drinks and and dinner at the same restaurant. eight were there for drinks and then two left, so six of us stayed for dinner. Okay. And it was just a a Saturday night, just out, you know, with friends. and that's exactly what I wanted. I didn't w I didn't want gifts. I just like come hang out and let's just enjoy each other's company. Nice. With people that I want to hang out with. Absolutely. I'm sorry I couldn't make it, but the next one 'cause I think the next ones that we have should be much more of an event. Well, I'm planning an event next year for mine. I am too, because it's gonna be a milestone. Do you wanna give us a hit what you're doing? I don't know yet. I can't figure it out, but it's I know what I'm doing. I what are you gonna do? I'm gonna go to New York. okay. Gonna make a trip of it in the fall and go to New York. And I've a couple friends that live there. Plus I haven't been. The last time I was there was December of two thousand. Threes. We're coming up on twenty three years ago, those the last thing I was there, when I bought my condo. wow. Okay. Yeah, I bought it while I was in New York. While you were in New York. you went through the process while you were in New York. Yes, I picked up the paperwork here. I look, I'm getting on a plane and on the plane I read everything. I called them and I said, I'll take it. Walking walking through Macy's on my cell phone saying, I'll take it. That's funny. I felt like a New York business mogul. You good for you. Well, I'm planning my one probably to be in Palm Springs and it's gonna involve trampolines and caftans. wow. Yes. So I think there's gonna be a lot of questions about whether or not undergarments are required under caftan or not. Well, hey, I I had that test with my trip to Scotland and the True and the my squirt and my rest of the outfits. So, you know. Yeah. Well at the rodeo. Only only certain people, a few hundred people know for sure. Right, exactly. Well, my birthday was complete underwhelming. but you know, turning out having a birthday, I thought it was really important to go see my doctor, who I just started I I started a new practitioner that I'm starting to see who I really, really like. Okay. But of course it's like all you have to a ask all those questions. And there's all the stuff like I don't know if you've been to the doctor recently for a physical, but It's very clinical and it's very like off the menu. So you have to s in my with my doctor, you have to set up an appointment, obviously. And then you have to say, is there anything you would like to discuss? So it you know, and we've got, you know, take the whole menu from all the things that happen to people that get older and just insert A, B, and C there. So you can choose on the things, but they actually do d you know, they speak about certain things and So some things came up and I dealt with them. But one of the things he said, you're due for a COVID shot and an ammonia shot and I think shingles I'm sorry, shingles and COVID. He said, Do you want them now? I said, Well, I'm here, you know, are you full service? And like, yeah, sure. Well, pick up the lid, look under the hood, let's poke me. So I got two Don, you're so dirty. Well, he's young and cute. I would say that again. I would highly recommend my doctor. But anyway, so he poked me and then he poked me again. And then, so I got the two and I also got the vaccinations. But I was gonna say, but I'm I digress. So, you know, and I don't know, I've never had a bad reaction to vaccines before. Uh-huh. These two vaccines and I think they're different from the the last two I had, or might be a different drug company that made them. I was so ill. that day. So I had I'd gotten my appointment a day before my birthday. So the day of my birthday, we were ready to just go out to dinner, something quiet, something nice, a nice restaurant. And I'm like, I don't want to get out of bed. So it was kind of an underwhelming thing, which is actually okay for me because it's I'm un I intend to make the next one bigger. But it was just like, God, I have never how do you react badly to vaccines? so they do say I mean obviously for it it happens at different impact to different people. So the 'cause I got my COVID booster and my flu shot on the same day, same arm. And in past it's like, yeah, it's I don't even feel the injections. Right. they're so good at it sometimes. and then I might feel a little kind of you know, like something's coming up, like a little cold or something for like a day or two. But I pep for that. So like I buy I buy my chicken soup or my Wonton soup and I have it in my fridge already 'cause I know I'm just gonna wanna And it helps that I w I'm able to work from home so I don't have to get out and absolutely drive anywhere. So on this one that I got them both recently, yes, it was two days. But it wasn't like I was down for the count. It just you felt a little weak and just to take it easy. I was down, down, down. So anyway, so whatever. But you don't happy birthday to us. Did you say one of them was the shingles? no, I think it was it was either pneumonia or shingles and covet. Well shingles is a two parter, so you No, it wasn't Shingles and it was pneumonia. Yeah, because I got mine like Us old folks gotta get vaccinated for everything now these days. Yes, no, it's good. I can have my little cheat sheet and I know when I'm supposed to you know, have my next whatever. And on a side note, do you ever look have you ever looked at your bill from your doctor? Don't tell me, but have you ever actually looked at the itemized cost for things? I do, but I mean, I don't have a lot of procedures done. So usually outside of a regular office visit, which you know she's like whatever. Right. you do your copay and then you get the statement. It's like, okay, fine. It shows that I paid twenty five dollars or sixty dollars or whatever and then I look at the rest. When I had the surgery back in twenty nineteen and again in twenty twenty one or twenty two, I had two different surgeries and yeah, it was like Thousands and thousands and thousands of dollars. I only paid X. Yes, exactly. So that's my point is that we know if you have if you have insurance, it's a whole different ball of wax. yeah. But I was just aghast at because, insurance covers all preventative care, basically. I'm sure it is for you too. And you pay your copay and then you get your your regular checkup. And if you have a vaccination or something, of course if you go to CVS or have your doctor do it, it's paid for or covered. Right. Right. But did you ever see the cost of a COVID vaccine? No, no does ever get a big charge? No. Fourteen hundred dollars. Wow. For a shot that you get at CBS or at the doctor's office. So th and that's just your vaccination. Yeah. Which of course is covered because of preventative care, luckily. Sure, okay. You know, so anyway, anyway, so it was just very mind boggling to see what the cost the companies charge and what offices charge for health care. So that should probably be a topic of something we discuss in the future, right? Well, you know Since we're at that age, we are now before we turn our next age have to talk about Medicare. yeah, absolutely. And prep for that. So, you know, as you talk about things that are coming up, that's on my list. And then something else that's come up, we you know I've talked about retirement. Like what a at what age do you want to retire? Yep. So for years I've been saying, yeah, sixty seven. Okay, so I go, I just turn six founders three more years. Do I want to do this for three more years? And then you look at okay, let me look at my social security statement. Mm-hmm. If I retire at sixty five, it's X amount per month. Right. If I retire at sixty seven, it's a little bit more per month. And when they did the math, the difference between those two years was five thousand dollars more a year. Okay. If I wait until sixty seven. Okay. But I'm thinking, is but that's split up, twelve months, whatever that works out to be. But I go, is it is five thousand dollars over a year gonna be that big of a difference in my life? Okay. So as the new year approaches, I need to have a conversation with my boss saying, I don't know what I'm gonna do, but in the event that I decide I want to retire at sixty five, we need to get someone in the office who's gonna take my place. Okay. Well that that's very Because I'm kind of the only admin in the off between be in the office. So not that they can't live without me, but I do a lot. I can't live without you, so they can't live without you. Well, that's another story, Don. But yeah, I totally hear you because I think well, it's also very very kind of you because I know the company's been very good to you for a long time. Yeah. And looking out for their best interest is good too. But you know, at the end of the day, I think we definitely need to make this an episode because the idea of retirement also when's the best time, but also, you know, discussing benefits and things like that, you could still work and not necessarily take your payout, right? That's what someone told me. So just because you retired doesn't mean you stop working. Yeah, you don't have to. You can take it whenever you choose to after things seventy two you have to take it. And if you were to get a part time job, you might be able to make up that sum or all of that additional money you would have gotten if you waited two more years. Right. Exactly. But you know, I can't wait to to have this as an episode for us because it's now talking about what is best for us. What is gonna make us happiest? What is gonna make our lives fulfilling? What's this act three gonna look like? Right. So I think that's really important choose you know choices to make. But there's a lot of changes that are coming our way pretty soon. Yeah. You know what I mean? When it comes to It's gonna come fast. Yes. Because if you think about it, today's the twenty-eighth of October. It was just October first or October fifth. Well, my birthday, you know, ten minutes ago. And now of course if you look at the retailers, of course Christmas it's all about Christmas right my god. Yeah. So yeah. So poor Thanksgiving, shafted. Again. That's usual. Yeah. But you know. Anyway, so yeah, I I would love to talk about in depth. I think it'd be kind of fun to do something where we have a little more of like an educational discussion about Medicaid Medicare, sorry. Yeah. And social security, because there's a lot of things out there I think that are general knowledge that a lot of people don't realize. And there like you said on social media there's a lot of information out there and you just don't know Who to believe, who to follow, what to read, correct? where to go. So that's that's a little daunting. but we do both have mutual friends who have recently retired, a la Amy, a la Lisa, and others who have just retired like last year, and like, okay, so how's it been? What you know? I have another friend who retired much earlier in his fifties than in his sixties. And it's like, well, you know, how did that work out for you? Was it Did you have any aggressive? Was it too soon to retire? Right. I think it's something you have to ease into. I think, you know, Paul and Dale too, you know, they also have been retired. Dale has been for a little bit longer, but I think, you know, Paul recent more recently, right it is a huge decision to make. And also I think it's really interesting to talk about how you ease into it. Or and also, you know, I all the preparation that you can do before you take the plunge, just inside your head. It's a combination of things like if you're someone who's very busy outside of work doing other stuff, great. Then once you retire, you will have those other things keep you busy. Yeah. But if you don't do any of that, you're like, Well, normally I'd go to the office right now or I'd be online or on a phone call and now what do I do? Mm-hmm. And if they don't have stuff to do, don't have anything to keep them busy, to keep their mind working, to keep their body working, that's where it becomes a little daunting, right? Exactly. Exactly. I think we might have found one of our next future episodes in the next couple of well, next month, I guess, in November. But I know there's other things you wanted to talk about too, right? yeah, I'd mentioned a couple times. Aging parents. I mean, hello. Absolutely. Yes. 99, my mom is still going, but I've been thinking a lot more about it. And currently I s I talk to her every day, several times a day. And then I see her on the weekends on Saturdays. But lately, as especially when we got back from the trip, it's like I s it occupies my mind that she is home alone all day, every day. Mm-hmm. Because my brother does live with her, but he has to work. Sure. So she has she does have, you know, friends and girls that call her here and there, but she's not going out. She's not doesn't have any friends to go to lunch with or go for a walk with or so she's basically home alone in her own thoughts. going over things and then with her short term memory, I think it just makes it more confusing. Okay. and so the last couple weeks I've made an effort to like if there's a night during the week when I'm done with work and I've got nothing going on, I'll go down to see her. nice. Rather than wait till the weekend. Right? I just go and have to ha hang off for a couple hours have dinner and then I head back. Sure. But it's just been more on my mind. Absolutely. Because I just feel badly that I mean Well yes, and I think it's a great way to to start making plans about how you can help and enrich your mom's life also. You know, I I know you've you're a very, very good son. You've always been a good son, you've always taken care of her, along with your brother's, you know, family. Of course. You've got a great network around you, which is wonderful. But it's also kind of sets me in the mind of thinking, like, okay, how is our and our What's Act Three Years going to look like? Right. Because we have to think about those things. So we're going down a little rabbit hole about it, but I can't wait to delve into it more. But it's what's in front of us. Absolutely. Whether it's five years or twenty years from now, it's in front of us. Well, you've got at least ninety-nine plus years to go, so don't think you're not gonna be pushing me in the wheelchair, because you will be. Push you off a cliff. so sorry. so so let's We'll come back to that one. But I also wanted to ask you, for Halloween, what are your plans? so no, I that's where I'll be down in at my mom's house giving out what you said. Yes, yes. And you? well I we're gonna have well, believe it or not, we've gone through a huge heat wave in the bay in the South Bay. Huge, crazy, crazy hot. but we're coming back out of it. And now there's like a fifty percent chance of rain on Saturday after a huge heat wave. So we're supposed to be having our driveway extravaganza where I will be pulling out my fallen angel costume again. I'll take more pictures. But yeah, that look we're looking forward to that because it's all the day's coming by. We don't care if the kids show up or not because it's a party for us. Right. So yeah, but also something I have gotten into, and I'll share some pictures with you later. I'll put it online is that I've been making appetizers for the get-togethers we've been having lately that are Halloween-based. no. And I made I made a guacamole witch. Which I will share a picture of. Nice. I made skeleton cucumber salad. Okay. And I made one which was a debacle that didn't work 'cause we went to a get together last weekend at a friend's house. And it was three witches, three flying witches made out of prosciutto olives and gorg mozzarella balls. huh. And they were flying over three wedges of brie. They didn't make it. When did they melt or why did they crash or what happened? Well, they were like crafted on a skewer. I'll show you a picture of what how they started. They ended up in a very, very soggy mess. But that was my new thing now. I've got to bring theme-based appetizers to people's houses for their parties. That's hilarious. Yes. So yeah, that was fun. But yeah, so what else do you got? Are we good? I think we are. The only thing I caught up people up on is that I had I f I finally switched to Monjaro. well do you wanna talk about that now? Sure, I'll be real quick. report. So because I had been on Ozempic for so long and I kind of plateaued. Yep. And I went to the endocrinologist tried to switch me, but the insurance wouldn't allow it, saying 'cause I've only been on Ozempic, you need to try other things before we so they put me on Tolicity for a couple of months and that did nothing. Okay. and then they finally got the approval. I went on Monjaro. But the dosage they put me on was basically equivalent to where I was. So I g I like I said, I haven't really nothing's really happened. so they finally on the the next dosage that I get, the next delivery, will they'll up the up the dosage. So this year has just kind of been flat. Yeah, but you know what's funny is that w as we grow older and we stay on take drugs over a period of time. Sometimes they lose their effect and you gotta start a new one or increase the dosage. It's just another part of our journey. And thing is with the Ozempic, I was already at the maximum dosage. That's why she wanna switch it to the other one because there' you have more flexibility. But the insurance wouldn't allow it. And come on, people. So I lost a lot of time there. But I'm trying to stay positive. something real new. I was at a recent fundraiser event and in the middle of and it ended up being like a a club atmosphere, like loud music and a woman doing a pole dance and this is a fundraiser? Okay, f a political fundraiser. Okay. But in the middle of that, there was a guy set up with a table doing tarot card reading. And I kept I kept watching him like, how can he do it in this really loud with the lights and the music and the peep bows? But I did walk up to him at the end 'cause I'd never had have you ever had a tarot card reading? A long time ago, yeah. I've never had it done I never really had an interest, but I thought, you know what? Why not? Why not? So I went up to him and I said, Well, I can't do it here, it's just too loud. And he goes, Yeah, I agree that I I didn't know it was gonna be this loud. because there's too many distractions. So we're set up and go see him next Monday night. Really? fun. That's exciting. Yeah. I said, you just have to be open to it. So I'm gonna do that. So that's coming up. So next time we meet, I'll have a I'll report back. Again, this is part of our act three. We gotta try stuff we wouldn't normally do or try and just like what's be open to it. Let's go for it. Just go for Absolutely. Yeah. So So that's coming up fun. that's new. And then yeah, so we have to get back into the swing of things. Yes, into the podcast perennial pallusa, that is our lives. And also, sorry, side note now that we're talking about I have you read I'm sure you voted already, right? Yes, I did. I did mine and you know, I mailed it in. Yes. I cannot wait for the voting to be over so I can stop. Seeing the same three commercials about the same three things and the same three candidates over and over and over again. And the forty seven mailers that come in every day. It's such a waste of paper. But you know, I gotta say, I gotta say, it's so important that you read the propositions that are out there because there's so many twists and turns inside of those things. Yeah. And one commercial does not an education make. no. We should put that on a coin or put that on a T shirt. Because there's a lot of research people need to do before they vote on things. It's just it's just it's a lot. It's a lot. But it's a great, you know, thing to be able to vote in this country too. So we have to cherish that. But also make sure everyone goes out and votes, please. It's coming up ro I mean it's next week, right? Yes, next week. Next Tuesday. So So less than a week away. Yeah. So I'm gonna try and get this episode out this weekend on Halloweeny so we can everyone can get a load of us. So that'll be As if they never get a load of us. But I'm so glad you're back, Gary. It's so good to see you. I'm so glad Yes. So we'll get back in the groove. All of our thousands of millions of fans can stop clamoring. We're fine. Yeah, we're okay, people. We're okay. We're back. Everyone calm down. We're gonna take care of you. We got you back. You do. You do. So you want to take us out? Well, I think we should end it right now and we'll come back with more fun conversations. And some thought provoking comments and ideas. And we'll throw in a guest. I don't know. Do we have any more guests lined up? not right now. We've been on such the hiatus, we gotta we gotta talk to our agent. We need to go on the hunt.
