Christina Nicci - Livestream Fitness
===

Chris Stone: [00:00:00] So this is so awesome. This is like a weird little inception moment for us. Christina,

Christina Nicci: how are you

Chris Stone: tonight?

Christina Nicci: Good, good. How are you guys doing?

Chris Stone: This is a dream. This is really fun. If you wanna talk, uh, fitness, we've got an expert here. If you want to talk, uh, you know, podcast. Some gear, we know enough to be dangerous and, uh, can steer you in the right place.

But Christina, uh, how long did it, uh, this is a new vibe that you've got going on, you've got the lights kind of going on in the back. Have you done that for previous streams or is that, have you just, did you just bust that out for us?

Christina Nicci: Um, you know, I don't. Well, I feel like I don't really get any opportunity to use them, to be honest with you.

'cause always in the gym. So, I mean, I don't know. I mean, I thought it'd be nice to kind of break 'em out and, you know, add, add something a little bit different. Make it a little bit more interesting, a little more colorful. Yeah.

Jim Fuhs: And I, and I think, I think we've, we've also seen sometimes you have like you're in the kitchen, like when I think you were baking cookies, but you weren't like [00:01:00] eating the cookies.

Christina Nicci: Yes.

Jim Fuhs: Uh,

Christina Nicci: yes. I'm famous for that.

Jim Fuhs: So, so Christina, let's, um, we, we wanna learn a little bit more about Christina since we've got you here. Tell us, you know, what made you become an Amazon creator? I mean, I know you focus on fitness, but you've also got some, some new things coming down the pike. You, you've got a whole new channel that, uh, you're getting ready to launch with.

I actually think is very exciting. Uh, really looking forward to. See what, uh, you and your team will be doing with that, which I think is just gonna be so cool.

Christina Nicci: Yeah. Yeah, I mean, I think it's just a great, Amazon is just another really, really good platform. Very good. There's a lot of positivity, which is what I realized just from the very beginning.

Um, but it's just a great way to reach out to even more people with, you know, just like things about health, things about fitness, nutrition, all of that stuff. So. Uh, you know, I literally found out about Amazon Live, um, I would say about a couple weeks before I even started, or I even [00:02:00] created a channel, so I didn't even know, like prior to January, I knew nothing about Amazon Live.

So I'm, I'm still kind of like new to this. I.

Chris Stone: It's awesome. I think everyone's new to this. It, it hasn't really been around that long. And, and the more that we talk to other people, um, it's like, you know, we'll say, oh yeah, we go live, you know, on Amazon. They're like, whoa, wait, what it, that's a, that's a thing.

And then, yeah, and then you have to go through that whole thing of explaining how you go and how you find it, which is why we got the redirect, uh, you know, to go to, you know, your.live so they can at least. Have, you know, we could just say that or just, uh, make it easily easy and memorable. But, uh mm-hmm.

That'll, that'll sort itself out eventually. I mean, there's, you know, other platforms like YouTube that, uh, took a while for them to sort things out when, when things were first starting. But I, I feel like, you know, you're, you're leaning in, you're already launching other channels, so you're seeing the benefit of it.

You're, you're like, um, hey, this could be something [00:03:00] massive and. It might not. I mean, you know, Amazon may snap their fingers and go, we're not doing this anymore tomorrow. Yeah. Who knows? But right now, uh, we're, we're seeing the benefit of it. I'm sure you're seeing the benefit of, of Amazon Live as well. Has it helped you in your, in, in, in the business that you do for, for training and and and everything else, has the Amazon Live thing gotten you more notoriety, SEO or like how has that helped you?

Christina Nicci: Yeah, so it's funny that you mentioned that because I actually got clients out of Amazon Live. Wow. So I am, I'm training a couple clients that found me from a on Amazon Live. Then another cool thing that happened too is that since I've been on Amazon Live, I've had like even more followers like on Instagram and YouTube and all that stuff too.

So it's kind of like this trickling down effect and it like affected everything, which is pretty amazing. I.

Chris Stone: And I've watched your streams. You don't like actively say, follow me on Instagram, follow me on, you know, you're, you're, you're doing your thing. You know, you're, you're doing [00:04:00] sort of like when you're on Amazon, it's kind of a different thing.

And then I've seen you do stuff on, on Instagram that's more Instagram focused because you have to not necessarily follow the rules, but it's a different platform. You're like in the, you're in the big, big mall, right? Yeah. Thing. And people see the value of like, oh, you know what, if I tune in to her, I can actually work out.

Get a free workout. Um, and so you start getting those followers that way organically. 'cause you're not really just throwing it out there like, follow me on Instagram, dah, dah, dah, dah dah. You probably are when you have that opportunity. But, you know, we can't always do that. As, as Amazon Live influencers. I think you've found a really great way of.

Doing that, um, organically and people just being able to follow you?

Christina Nicci: Yeah, I try to make it easy. 'cause like literally, I, everything is the same on all platforms. So if they wanna find me, they could just type in my name and it'll take me, I mean, it'll take them to like YouTube, to Instagram and, you know, Facebook, whatever.

So it's a lot easier that way versus like having [00:05:00] different names, you know, it's gonna be more challenging with this new channel, but we'll figure it out.

Jim Fuhs: I think it's really cool though. I, I mean, and I think. This is fun because we've talked about this before, this whole idea of creators collaborating, and so what's amazing is if you're watching, you know, you might be watching on Christina's channel, well, you can also watch over on deal casters.

You're seeing the same show. But you're getting a, a wider selection of items that you might want us to talk about.

Chris Stone: So I've, I've got, I always ask, um, other Amazon Live influencers this because, um, you know, we have our sort of niche, right? You have mm-hmm. You know, fitness and health, but you also have these other shows and you, and you do things as it relates to cooking.

And, and so your, your lane is, is, you know, probably wider than ours if, if we're being honest and, and you know, uh, Jim, and, and my lane is. Obviously, you know, more tech and, and more, uh, live streaming and [00:06:00] podcasting and, and, and things like that. Um, but I always find it interesting to ask other Amazon Live influencers.

'cause I, I know you, you look at your, your stuff, you look at your data, you look at, oh yeah, okay. Um, you know, how much did I make today? How much did, did I make on, on these particular streams? But. I always like to go back and look at the items and see what we've sold and find, and then ask an Amazon Live influencer.

What's the most kind of weird, maybe random thing, um, or things quantitatively that, uh, that maybe you've sold from just being live on Amazon, even though you've never maybe even talked about it.

Christina Nicci: Yeah. Yeah. I, you know, it's funny that you mention that because, um, so Mr. Moderator's, like head of that department every single morning he goes on the internet and he goes to my page and he looks at all the stuff that everybody bought.

And I think one of the weirdest things that, I mean, it probably wouldn't seem weird to a lot of [00:07:00] people, but to me it was. But um, somebody like bought a large amount of baby wipes and I'm like. Like, I don't even have, like, that's not even, but you know, I noticed that they, they stay on your page and they shop, you know, you get credit for it too, which is really cool.

Chris Stone: Right? Yeah. I mean, exactly. For 24 hours. It doesn't, you know, somebody goes, and maybe they're, maybe they're watching the show right now, but you just, you know, you know what? I need baby wipes.

Christina Nicci: Yeah. Um, oh, you just remind me.

Chris Stone: Exactly. Or I need a tire. So yes, that's what we've, that's our most random item.

Somebody actually bought just one. One tire, one for their vehicle.

Christina Nicci: Interesting.

Chris Stone: I mean, they watched us and they said, you know what, tomorrow I'm going to launch my podcast, but first I need a tire. Right, right. So, you know,

Christina Nicci: you know, so you guys mentioned that you had like a, like your, like your window of I guess like reach, not [00:08:00] reach, but just like.

You know, you're talking about tech and stuff like that. But the thing is, is that every single person, every single influencer out there, I mean everybody in general, no matter what like topic they're discussing, they all need tech stuff. So really you're reaching out to everybody without having to be, pick a certain category, if you will.

Chris Stone: Yeah. Yeah. I think that's pretty keen. Yeah, that's what we had done. Um, that's the weird thing about this show, uh, Christina, is that when Jim and I, um, you know, Jim called me and he is like, I got approved for Amazon Live and he and I had spoken for months about doing something. We didn't know if it was gonna be a podcast, it was gonna be a live show, but we wanted to work together and, and figure out something.

But we had always in our businesses and our, you know, my business being cast ahead and Jim's being Fusion marketing, I. Really working with people to get past that, that tech stuff and say, you know, stop worrying about this and, and [00:09:00] this microphone and you know, just worry about mic technique and then get a cheap microphone and then use that extra money to get this because you're gonna need a better camera than you've got because you're laptop camera's a piece of crap.

And so you need to at least spend, you know, we were doing that already and getting paid for consulting, all of that stuff. And so. Deal casters is, is really just what we've always been doing is helping people with, with live shows. And, and it didn't matter if they were, um, you know, some, you know, amazing YouTuber or if they were someone that you know, was, uh, who knows what, uh, uh, sanitation engineer or whatever that had a live show that needed, uh, something for their presentation.

So, you're right, I mean, if, if that in and of itself is, is kind of like a, a wide variance, but you know, we can't. We can't, you know, get on and, and talk about dumbbells. You know, we can't get on and, and, and, and talk about, um, you know, that, oh, Jim's [00:10:00] here. Jim's gonna start working again. I mean,

Christina Nicci: you could have, see Jim, you gotta take your shirt off for it to matter.

Chris Stone: Shirt, shirt, shirt, shirt. Sure. I showed his off first.

Christina Nicci: We've. You can talk about dumbbells. You just have to do it shirtless.

Jim Fuhs: Oh, I just, I just feel like U Techia owns that market though.

Chris Stone: You know? It really does own the shirtless market. I mean, you can't, you know, I mean, how do you, that's been done. You know, you're gonna, you're gonna have to do it in a, I don't know, a, a wetsuit or something.

Right.

Christina Nicci: Uh. Hey. Okay. I am waiting. A wetsuit

Chris Stone: going Shirtless is, it's all about the confidence. It really is. If you, if you are confidently shirtless, I mean, you know, it doesn't matter if you have a six pack or you've got a pony keg, you know, as far as you're at. Exactly. Just own it. Right? Me Own, [00:11:00] own that pony keg.

Right. And you're, and you're good.

Jim Fuhs: So, so Christina, what, um. Have you always been in the fitness field or is it something that you got into at some point in time?

Christina Nicci: Yeah, so, no, you know, it was actually somebody asked me that, um, I believe it was yesterday on my live. Um, and I, I wasn't like an athlete or anything in high school.

I didn't participate in any sports. In fact, my favorite subject was like art and music. Um, so yeah, actually I didn't really even start like dabbling into lifting until about like 19 when I graduated. So like a year after I graduated, probably like 1996. So, yeah. Um, and then I just kind of started getting into it.

Then when we moved to Texas in 2014, that's when I really, like, I was using weightlifting as like a means to deal with, like a really stressful job. Um, and so I just became really passionate [00:12:00] about it and just decided that this was like my thing. This is something that I absolutely love that I could stick with.

So.

Chris Stone: Yeah. I read an article where you said that in, in high school you were, you were bullied and that that Yes. You know, kind of like moved you into, like focusing on, on your fitness and that kind of helped you with the, with that mindset.

Christina Nicci: Yes, yes. I was bullied in like, so I grew up in New York. I was actually bullied in New York and then even a little bit when I moved to Virginia.

And so it, you know, I just had like this negative mindset and so when I started, you know, getting into the gym, I start, I started basically just kind of researching just a bunch of things on like nutrition and like exercise and stuff like that. I eventually got like my certification in nutrition and also, um, personal training.

But I didn't like train for a while. Like I just, I just used it as like a means to learn more. And, um, I just found that it was, it was just really positive. I just. [00:13:00] My whole mindset changed on just life in general. And I was like, wow, you know, I have to teach. I wanna teach other people this really, really good feeling.

And so it kind of all stemmed from there.

Jim Fuhs: Yeah, I think that's awesome. I, I, I think, uh, 1996, I was probably running six miles a day and was actually going to the gym. Um. But I can't say that I'm doing the, the going to the gym part now, but, but I'm thinking about it, you know, because people like you inspire me.

I did walk five miles today.

Christina Nicci: That's good.

Jim Fuhs: I do that almost every day.

Christina Nicci: Yeah.

Jim Fuhs: I've run a couple marathons. Chris is like the marathon man. Think he's running 'em all the time now. Um,

Chris Stone: no, I haven't, I haven't, I haven't done one in two years, so, yeah. You know what's painful now? Yeah. Well, yeah. If you do the training, this is the thing.

And, and you know, maybe Christina, you could, um, sort of, I guess chime on on this, is like, like Jim, I was, I was, [00:14:00] I loved to run and so I would, I would just get out and I would just run. I didn't know what I was doing. I just ran because it felt good and it felt good after I did it. And then, you know, it allowed me to, um, you know, uh, consume whatever I consumed, uh, because I wasn't, you know, there, I, I wasn't really following much nutrition.

I. And so I have a, a relative who is doing Ironman uh, triathlons. And you know, he was following my training on Strava and he is like, you know, Chris, you need to be doing races. You need to be doing marathons and, and half marathons. And I was like, are you kidding me? Like, I could never do that. 'cause I would go out and I'd run for six miles and I'd come back and he said this to me and it, it really is what it changed, you know, everything for me.

He said. Chris, all you have to do is the training and when you could do the training, the race is just the race. It's just you, you, you just, all you gotta do is just follow the training. And I, he, I was [00:15:00] like, that, that makes sense to me. So I, it put everything in a box for me and I said, okay, I'm gonna, I'm gonna follow a training plan.

Sure enough. He was, he was absolutely right. I could, I eventually could run 26 miles because I had done the training leading, uh, leading up to that. So I think a lot of people don't, don't realize when, when they wanna follow a fitness regimen or they want to just maybe lose some weight or just, you know, completely change their lifestyle so they can live, you know, healthier and happier.

Like, you don't have to start running six miles. You don't have to start running a mile. You just have to start and just go, and then the next day get 1% and next day 1%. And, and you know, you don't have to run a marathon, but you're gonna get there if you keep and just do the training. That's true. That's very true.

Christina Nicci: Yeah. Just step by step.

Jim Fuhs: Well, and, and, but I think another big part, and this is something that [00:16:00] surprised me. So I ran the Marine Corps Marathon in 2006. Um, what I ended up finding out soon after that, I actually had elevated blood pressure and ended up on blood pressure medication. Well, and I'm like, well, how did that happen?

Because I worked out all the time and a few years ago I changed my nutrition, cut sugar, and, you know, I, I haven't drank soda in like, probably five, six years. And, uh, by changing how I eat. I was able to get off blood pressure medication and so I think sometimes that's the, that's the fallacy too. And 'cause Chris, you kind of hit on it that just because you're out there running it can mask some of those, or exercise can sometimes mask some of those nutrition issues that we have.

I mean, what do you, what do you think about that, Christina?

Christina Nicci: I mean, you know, and I always tell people this, like you, you hear a lot of the times that people will say that, you know, like training it or [00:17:00] diet, I'm sorry, is like 70%. I really consider diet more like 90%, because you cannot out-train a bad diet, like Right.

You know, you could look, they, they have this term like skinny fat, you know. Where you could look really good on the outside and like on the inside you are just, you know, you're unhealthy, you know, you haven't built up enough muscle and you just like, you know, your, your, your organs are just not performing well, but you look good on the outside.

You know what I mean? So, I mean, yeah, absolutely. Like diet definitely matters. And I consider it more like that, 90% for sure.

Jim Fuhs: Oh yeah, absolutely. And, and it's funny 'cause I've seen, I think it's like. If you consider this, I think like, and I, I, I haven't had McDonald's in, in years. Mm-hmm. If you get like the Big Mac, supersized fries, if they still use that term and a big and a Coke, that's like a thousand calories.

Chris Stone: Yeah.

Jim Fuhs: And, and that one two hour [00:18:00] workout you just did, just, you just wiped it out with that one Big Mac meal. I mean, it's, it's crazy. And so people don't think about that. I, I. I couldn't agree with you more. Uh, Christina. I mean that definitely nutrition. I mean, I, I lost 20 pounds by just changing how I eat.

I didn't exercise at all.

Christina Nicci: Oh, yeah. Yeah. And you, you mentioned sugar, like sugar is. A huge, it's, it's one of the things that can cause major inflammation and we know that like inflammation causes things like, you know, cancer diseases, all of that stuff. So, you know, it's, it's just, and there's sugar in like, everything now.

Even like the low fat stuff, it's like sugar, sugar. They just replace everything with sugar, you know, I don't, do you remember those cookies back a while? They were like, I forgot what they're called. They

Chris Stone: are you talking about cookies Christina? Know for a second you were talking about cookies because if you're talking about cookie, can we talk [00:19:00] about cookies?

Christina Nicci: We can talk about cookies. Let's how to That cookies. I knew this was gonna,

Chris Stone: I'm prepared. Alright, so let's, let's backstory. Deal casters after dark. A month ago, six weeks ago, um, Christina jumps on, we're having fun, everybody's, you know, talking about, you know, whatever. I don't know. I guess UIA got dinged because he was taking his shirt off.

Um, and I, I, I mean, he's always got his shirt, but that's, he was doing product videos and

Jim Fuhs: they, they took all okay, took all of his, um,

Chris Stone: and so in, in Hommage in honor of u Teia, our brother, um, Jim said, uh, you know, uh, he was gonna take, I mean, I don't know how it got there. I went back and watched it. I think I had more to do with it.

Jim, I apologize, um, than, uh. Than anyone, but Christina was in the chat and she was like, oh my, you know, like you were just like, shirt, shirt, [00:20:00] sure. Take a shirt off. You gotta do it. You gotta do it, you gotta do it. Jim, to your credit. Just whipped that thing off and, and like exposed the, those, those pecs that were built in the Marine Corps years ago.

And um, also when he went to put the shirt back on, he put it on, you know, it was inside, inside out. So he had to pull it off again and, uh, you know, expose the pec again, put it back on. So that became Shirtless Gym, which has now become just, um, you know, it's breaking the internet in terms of, um, you know, meme, uh, traction.

Not really. Um, and so, uh, you know, we've obviously, uh, are fans of Christina's, uh, show and. You know, her workout show, but she also does the show where she's in the kitchen and she's cooking and she's got her, she's got her friends and I think relatives and, and other people that are doing trivia while you're cooking.

And there's, it's really like a great show [00:21:00] and I'm always hungry after watching it. And so I know you being a super, uh, big health, um, you know, expert and fitness expert, I'm looking at what's in front of you and I'm like. Whoa. Um, those look like, I don't know about you, but those look like cookies with a lot of calories to me.

And so I, um, I put it out there. I was like, Christina, are you gonna eat one of these cookies? And you were just like, boy, you shut that down. You were just like, no, no, no, no. I'm not gonna eat. And I was like, whoa. Okay. Hmm. Well, I mean, it seems to me like you got Jim to take his shirt off, right? You should at least you could do is eat a cookie on your live stream, right?

I was like, you know what? If you eat that cookie, we will send you a deal caster's T-shirt. I mean, like who? I mean that was, that's eat a cookie. That's like a double bonus. That's like eat a cookie, which is [00:22:00] awesome, and get an awesome t-shirt. You shut that down. You were like,

Jim Fuhs: I can't do it. Can't. I don't think

Chris Stone: there was even like three seconds, Christina, where you were just like, I think I'm gonna do it.

You were just like, I'm not doing it. I'm not gonna eat. I'm not gonna eat the cookie. I'm just not gonna do it. I'm like, are the cookies even that good? Or her what?

Jim Fuhs: I mean, maybe we should have said if she had mailed us some cookies, then we would've sent her a shirt.

Christina Nicci: Ah, yeah. You know, I mean, that's,

Jim Fuhs: that's a fair trade Cookies for a shirt.

Christina Nicci: I do have to let you guys know something though. Uh

Jim Fuhs: oh. Uhoh. Big deal.

Chris Stone: So

Christina Nicci: I do have something set aside just because I had a strange feeling that this was gonna come up. So,

Chris Stone: oh, oh, oh. Is that a written name? Is it really a

Christina Nicci: No, no. It it, there. Oh, there you go.

Jim Fuhs: Yeah. [00:23:00] Ooh, is it, is it a, is it a healthy cookie?

Christina Nicci: Oh, no, no. It's like one of those Italian cookies, I dunno if you guys are familiar with it, but it's got like, it's like an almond crust and then inside it's got like dark chocolate and it's very crispy and very delicious and definitely high in calories.

Did

Jim Fuhs: you make that, did you bake that cookie or did you buy it? Yeah,

Christina Nicci: no, these cookies I bought, these are a little more tricky to make, but I actually bought these cookies.

Jim Fuhs: Oh, so are you gonna

Chris Stone: eat the cookies? Are they are? Well, I guess the next question is, but uh, not, not just, are you gonna eat, are they available on Amazon so everyone else can

Christina Nicci: buy them?

I bet they are. I bet they are. Um, crinkle cookies. I don't know. Like, what would you even call these? I don't even know. Should I eat this? Um, yes,

Chris Stone: the answer. You the match gate. Eat the,

Jim Fuhs: if you eat the cookie. We'll, we'll, the deal caster shirt thing is still uh oh. It's still [00:24:00] on the table. It's still on the table.

Christina Nicci: I'm going eat it while you guys are talking,

Jim Fuhs: right? Well, we got, we got one thing accomplished. We can't get Mr. Moderator on the screen, but we did eat a cookie on deal cast after. That is pretty awesome. That's the first time we've seen Christina eat a cookie.

Christina Nicci: Oh, oh. I mean, I'm, I'm usually always eating something, I guess, but

Jim Fuhs: not, but it's probably like, like a fitness bar or celery or carrots.

Right. Something celery.

Now, do you like celery or is celery like a non-starter?

Christina Nicci: Oh, I mean, celery's. Okay. It's just not very filling. Like I go for really, really dense, um. Like the way I eat. I'm very much like food for Fuel, with the exception of my one cheat meal, which happened to be today, by the way. Um, but, uh, but no, like, you like

Chris Stone: the cookie?

Christina Nicci: Yes, [00:25:00] yes. Um, it, it was, it worked out perfectly. Uh,

but, um, but yeah, no, I, I go for like really filling stuff. So I eat a lot of vegetables, probably like. Two pounds or more of vegetables per day, um, because they're really filling. But I go for things like broccoli, uh, green beans, um, cauliflower, you know, stuff, stuff that's like, like bell peppers, um, potatoes, things that are really, really, really filling.

Um, I mean, yeah, I could eat celery, but I mean,

Jim Fuhs: what is Christina? Christina Nietzche cheat meal? I'm, I'm. I'm interested, what, what would that be?

Christina Nicci: So, okay, so normally today was pasta, because I'm keeping it kind of like what's called a refeed, um, for the next couple weeks. So a refeed, the difference is a, a cheat meal basically has no rules.

Um, it's like a burger and fries or, you know, pizza or whatever. Um, a refeed meal is something with higher [00:26:00] carbs, but a good amount of protein and still low fat. So like pasta with some marinara sauce and some meat. You know, something like that.

Jim Fuhs: Hmm. Yeah. I, I wouldn't think pasta is cheating.

Christina Nicci: Well,

Jim Fuhs: I guess it depends on the type of pasta, right? I mean, I've noticed that like, you can actually get pasta made from. Quinoa, I, I believe. Mm-hmm. There's some actually made with, there was some, my wife and I really liked, but it seems like it disappeared. It was actually made from spinach.

Chris Stone: Oh, double squash too, where it's kind of, you know, it, it looks like pasta.

You just have to pretend like it's. Like, you know, the consistency is nowhere near it. You're just like, most of the time you're just pretending. Um, but one of the things, Christina, that I, I remember from, uh, watching one of your streams that you were talking about, uh, that you feel like is a, uh, kind of a misconception is, and a lot of people, and I, I don't, I don't think [00:27:00] it's, um, it, I don't know, maybe not a misconception, but like, uh, eating after a certain time.

Before you go to bed. Right? Yeah. And I think that's one of the things that, that a lot of people will, especially if, um, and, and you, the way you said this is like, listen, if you are exercising throughout the day, uh, or you're exercising, you need to refuel your body. You need to, like, you break down the muscles, you break down and you have to, you have to re, you know, replace that.

And if you don't. Then you, you know, you could do, you can hurt yourself. You can, you know, you're in, you're, you're not exactly doing the best thing that you can for your body. So if that means you're eating at nine o'clock at night to do that, and then you go to bed not too long after that, it's not necessarily a bad thing.

And I think that's one of the things that a lot of people, especially like intermittent fasts and things like that, and, um, the timing of, you know, when they eat and when they go to bed and that whole thing. But you have a, you have a different [00:28:00] theory on that.

Christina Nicci: Yeah, so basically, okay, so there's a few different things I'll talk about, like the intermittent fasting in a second.

Um, so you know, your body as far as in like the time that you stop eating, there's, your body doesn't say, okay, well I'm gonna stop burning calories at seven o'clock. Like, it, it's still, it, you're still get, if you, the, the science is calories and calories out. So if you, it doesn't matter when you eat the calories, and I tell everybody this all the time, I go to bed pretty late.

Um. And I eat my last meal at like 11 o'clock at night in bed, by the way, watching tv. Really? So, yes. And so, yeah. So it, it has nothing to do if, if you're over calories, you're gonna gain weight. If you are consuming the same amount as you are burning, then you're basically at maintenance, right? Um, but if you are burning, let, if you're eating more, or I'm getting a little confused here.

If you're burn, if you're. Eating less, then you'll lose weight, then you're [00:29:00] burning. You know what I mean? If you're, if you're burning more and you're eating less, then you will lose weight if you're, if you're in a calorie deficit. Um, so in the morning time, like when a lot of people talk about, you know, fasted cardio or fasted workouts, um, the reason why I don't agree with that is because when we, so when we go to bed.

Glycogen stores are actually, they're stored in two places that's in your liver and your muscles. So overnight when you go to sleep, the glycogen stores are actually mostly depleted in your liver. So when you wake up and you do your exercise and you haven't eaten anything, you're actually tapping into those muscle stores.

So our goal should never be, even if you're not trying to build muscle, your goal should never be to lose muscle. And so when you're doing that, when you're not fueling your body, even with something like a, a protein or a carb, something, even something small, then you're tapping into those muscle stores.

Um, so that definitely matters. And then the whole thing with [00:30:00] like, uh, intermittent fasting, there's no real long-term scientific benefits, uh, versus regular. Calorie counting and stuff like that. The only reason why intermittent fasting fasting works is because you are basically just lowering, you're, you're basically shortening the window of time that you have to eat.

So naturally you're gonna be eating less because you have less time to eat. So,

Jim Fuhs: yeah, I mean that, that's, that's really interesting. I mean, so I guess, um, let, let's say, so what do you really think you, you kind of hit on earlier that 90% of it is. Is diet. Mm-hmm. And, and really the other 10% is, is fitness.

Mm-hmm. Um, what do you recommend though for like, like say people that maybe they don't like running, maybe they, they don't have, um, gym equipment. What's, what's a good thing for them to do? I mean, I, I, 'cause I think some of the stuff you do on your Amazon channel when you're doing fitness, [00:31:00] sometimes it's more, it seems like it's just like body weight sort of things.

Christina Nicci: Yeah. Um, so you can do, uh, if, if you don't have like a treadmill or anything like that, um, for cardio, you can just do like HIIT workouts and honestly, you burn more calories in a short period of time. And because it's like an interval, like you're constantly revving up your heart rate, lowering it, revving it up, um, that actually has long-term benefits through the rest of, you know, for a large portion of the day versus just doing like steady state cardio.

Um, so, and you can do, you could put together a simple routine of like 30 seconds of burpees, 30 seconds jumping jacks, resting for a minute, doing the same thing over again. I mean, you can, you can do so many different things, you know, um, mountain climbers and, you know, pushups or, you know, anything like that.

And yeah, there's a lot of body weight things that you can do as far as lifting weight as well too. So

Chris Stone: a lot of d yeah, a lot of people do. Yeah. You think a lot of people don't get started because they don't, um, e either A, they don't, you know, know what, what you're talking about [00:32:00] here, or, or they don't realize, or, or they need some sort of like, plan I, I.

Jim and I talk about this all the time, where it's like, I think now everyone wants that quick fix, right? They want that, you know, they see that, oh, you know, you can lose a hundred pounds in six months by, you know, uh, you know, doing this little, the red easy thing and little, you know, and, and so people, you know, they just want that, that quick fix and that, that thing, but you know.

Losing weight and, and, and, and, uh, you know, changing your lifestyle to, uh, to be healthy. Um, it, you know, it's not easy. And I think people will have to realize that. Like, you have to, you have to have a mindset and be dedicated. And then it will happen for you, but it won't happen in a week. You're not gonna lose, you're not gonna be where you wanna be in a week.

You have to have to dedicate yourself. But like what you're saying is like, hey. You don't have to work out two hours a day, right? You really [00:33:00] don't. You know, you could do what you need to do in 30 minutes a day, and here's a plan for you to be able to do that in 30 minutes a day, and maybe in, you know, three months from now that 30 minutes extends a little bit because you're having fun and you're more fit, and, and, and you can, you now you have this lifestyle.

Now you can, you know, be able to, to do that stuff. Do you think like a lot of people are, are hesitant because they don't get that quick fix and they and and they, they just stop?

Christina Nicci: Yeah. I mean there's like, there's so many different like gimmicks out there too. Like the waste trainers, like people are like telling other people that they're gonna help you lose weight, which is, there's nothing scientific about it, you know what I mean?

Like, you can't lose weight from a waste trainer, just FYI guys. Um, you cannot. But, uh, but I think people get overwhelmed, like you were saying. You know, they don't know where to start. And so I always tell people, start with your diet first because that is what is gonna ultimately make or break you. [00:34:00] And there's a, you know, and the problem is a lot of people, you know, you should, we should, if you're trying to lose weight and you're struggling and you maybe hit a plateau, I tell everybody, go to Amazon, get a scale and weigh your food raw before you cook it.

And make sure that you're accurately counting those calories and, you know, just count for a couple days, see where you're at. And a lot of the times people are either overestimating or underestimating the amount of food that they're eating. So just by weighing and, and starting with, you know. Making sure that you're getting the right portions is, is definitely gonna be a good start.

And it's gonna make things a lot, it's gonna put a lot of things into perspective. I think

Jim Fuhs: one of the things that I remember, uh, growing up, even though he ended up going and playing for the wrong team, uh, in Dallas at one point, but Herschel Walker, who was an amazing athlete, did all that through na naturally.

Like he did not lift weights. He just used his body weight. He did pushups, [00:35:00] he did sit-ups. He, I mean he, the guy was a monster as far as on the, uh, on the, well, even in track he was extremely fast. And so I think, uh, I mean, yeah, people are looking for that quick fix and there, there is no such thing. I mean, just like the get rich quick schemes, right?

They don't exist either. Uh, it's fascinating. I don't know if that's something that's become more, more today. Everybody wants things to happen quickly. Uh, as opposed to, you know, just, it takes work, you know?

Christina Nicci: Yeah. And I tell people too, like, you know, another thing to look at too, like, people that are getting impatient, you have to realize like you didn't get to that weight in a very short period of time, so it's gonna take you that long period of time to get rid of it.

Just like, you know, I mean, you know, yeah, of course, you know, there are surgeries and stuff like that, but a lot of the times that fails, people don't. They never get to where they wanna be, and they just use that as like a [00:36:00] short term thing and they're still stuck. They don't know how to eat right. You know, none of that stuff.

So it's like, it doesn't, all of these short term things never really teach you anything, and they're never like long lasting either. So I feel like you can appreciate, you know, you can appreciate something more, the harder that you work. So if you worked really hard to get to where you are, you're gonna work super hard to stay and to even improve.

And you're gonna appreciate it so much better. You know, you're gonna re it's, it's more you respect yourself so much better if you put in the work.

Jim Fuhs: Right? A hundred percent. And now do you, do you also, Christina, so, you know, you talked about like there's really, I guess in a sense, like, so do you like try to eat five or six times a day?

It's kinda like small meals. It's like that whole thing of, it's, it's fuel to keep you going because I, that's something that I've. Seen a lot. It's like, you know, smaller meals more frequently as opposed to like, oh, I gotta have a big breakfast, I gotta have a lunch, and then I have a big dinner. You know?

And then in between, like you, you have a protein shake, uh, I mean. What do you [00:37:00] think of that?

Christina Nicci: So the great thing about science is that it really just boils, I mean, yeah, of course there are certain things that you can do with like timing and things like making sure that you're eating like at least 45 minutes, you know, before your workout to have some good fuel.

But. The cool thing is that everybody's different. So some people might do really good with like three large meals, and some people might do really good with five to six mini meals, but there isn't any long-term scientific benefits again between the two. So, uh, just for, just to give you an example, I personally prefer like big meals and so my breakfast is really huge.

I. And I, and then I have maybe like two to three other meals throughout the day, um, with, with including, not including my, what I call my bedtime meal. So, you know, everybody's different. And so some people do good with those small meals, but some people have huge appetites [00:38:00] and they're still, you're still gonna see some really, really great results.

You're not gonna see any better results. It just, you know, we're, we're all different. And so I, I, I tell everybody that, you know, I don't. All the people that I'm working with, all my clients and stuff like that, I make sure they know that, you know, you don't have to eat those mini meals. You can eat large meals if that's what your body prefers.

Jim Fuhs: So now, Christina, um, before we go now, you, you wear a fitness watch, right? Yes. But you now, did you switch to the Apple Watch you said? Yes, I think, yeah. So we, so I have the, I have the Fitbit and Chris I think has Garmin and, uh, but you used to use, was it the Garmin?

Christina Nicci: Yeah, so, well, so my very first one was like the Fitbit, but do you remember like the, the very first Fitbit that came out?

That tiny one?

Chris Stone: Yeah. Thin one.

Christina Nicci: Literally it just like red calories and like, like really old school. So I had that and then I had, uh, the Garmin for runner. Uh, I had the Garmin forerunner [00:39:00] and I had then the Garmin, uh, is it Phoenix or,

Chris Stone: mm-hmm.

Christina Nicci: Yeah, I had, the one I've got is

Chris Stone: the Phoenix three S3 upgrade.

Christina Nicci: Okay.

Yeah. So I had the, I think it was the Phoenix s or or something like that. Um, and then when I got the iPhone, then I switched that. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, it's a great, um, garment is like awesome.

Chris Stone: Yeah.

Christina Nicci: I would use it to like go on hikes and stuff like that. And it does like GPS and, you know, all of that stuff.

It's really awesome.

Jim Fuhs: Yeah, because, because I think I, I like the, the what the Apple watch does. I just think for me it's, it's the battery. 'cause I think you, like, if you are going out hiking and stuff or going away for a weekend, it, you'll need to charge it at some point unless they fix Yeah.

Christina Nicci: Well,

Jim Fuhs: I

Christina Nicci: do charge.

Yeah. I mean, I, I charge mine every single night. I mean, I just have like one of those, you know, the little magnetic chargers, I just charge it every night. So whenever I go somewhere, I just bring it with me. But yeah, I mean. It would definitely run out. Um, like [00:40:00] unlike my Garmin that lasted for like 14 days, I think it was crazy.

Chris Stone: Yeah. Christina, this has been awesome. Yeah. And I love that you just vibed out your, your whole thing, um, behind you and, uh, lent me and my ridiculous sense of humor. And Jim, um, kept a shirt on the whole time you ate a cookie. And, and finally get the t-shirt that you deserved. Yes. And, uh, but seriously the, the, the great, uh, health and fitness information that, uh, you obviously are, um, you know, sharing, uh, right now for, you know, on our show but continually on on your shows is fantastic.

And we're obviously huge fans of yours. And, uh, we hope and, and wish you the, the, you know, the, the success you deserve going forward.
