#27 Q&Q — What Does Your Heart Say?
In this question-and-quote episode, Arnold Beekes asks a question that sounds poetic but is meant literally: what does your heart say? He points back to the idea of our three brains — head, heart, and gut — and explains that the heart brain genuinely communicates, not in a voice others can hear, but in one you can learn to hear yourself, with attention and appreciation. He pairs it with an old Zen saying: "When you walk, walk. When you eat, eat. When you sit, sit." Simple on the surface, but genuinely hard in a world where we're rarely doing just one thing — scrolling while eating, listening to a podcast while walking, watching a video while reading. His invitation is straightforward: practice doing one thing at a time, fully present, and notice what changes.

Welcome, I'm Arnold Beekes and this is the question and quote version of the Between the Ears podcast. The goal is to enable you to unleash and use your uniqueness. Question, what does your heart say? A lot of you might say well my heart doesn't have a mouth and it doesn't talk.
Well, I would recommend you listen to one of my previous podcasts where I talk about our three brains, being our head brain, our heart brain and our gut brain. And your heart brain, which is what I'm referring to, and your heart brain talks to you, well not in a voice which someone else can hear, but clearly in a voice inside of you, which you can hear if you practice, if you give it attention, if you give it appreciation. So, what is your heart telling you today? Quote, and this quote refers to something very important and not easy in our world which is dominated by distractions and it's about presence.
It's an old Zen saying and the saying goes like this. When you walk, walk. When you eat, eat.
When you sit, sit. I think you quickly realize that although it sounds simple, it's not. Because we are so used to always having at least one or two screens beside us.
Maybe we are at the same time talking with some friends. Maybe we are reading a book while watching a video. Maybe we listen to a podcast while we're walking.
So, what this saying says, when you walk, walk. When you eat, eat. When you sit, sit.
That's the only thing you do and concentrate on that and that means being present. So, I invite you to start practicing that and remember we need your uniqueness. Be a better maker for yourself, for others, for the world.
