#19 Q&Q — What Makes You Cry?

In this short question-and-quote episode, Arnold Beekes poses a single question: what makes you cry — and not just full tears, but burning ones too? He reflects on experiencing burning tears daily lately, and offers a reframe: tears, whether from sadness, beauty, love, loss, or meaning, are signs from the heart asking you to pay attention to what's been suppressed for far too long. He pairs it with a quote from Albert Camus — "Men must live and create, live to the point of tears" — meaning to live so fully and honestly that life moves you into awe, joy, heartbreak, and gratitude, rather than staying safe, numb, or half asleep.

Between the Ears Q&Q
Welcome, I'm Arnold Beekes and this is the question and quote version of the Between the Ears podcast. The goal is to enable you to unleash and use your uniqueness. Question, what makes you cry? And it doesn't have to be like full tears with fluid running from your eyes, it can also be burning tears.

Lately I feel a lot of, well every day, I feel burning tears. I think they are signs from your heart that ask you to pay attention to what has been suppressed for a long time. Because we are champions at suppressing especially our emotions, but also our desires, wishes, goals, ambitions.

We've been suppressing it for so long. So look at what is burning, when are these tears burning? The tears are not just about sadness, they're a sign that something has really reached your core. It can be about beauty, love, loss or meaning.

So what makes you cry? Quote, men must live and create, live to the point of tears. This is a quote from the French philosopher Albert Camus. And what does it mean? Men must live and create, live to the point of tears.

That means live so fully, honestly and intensely that life actually moves you into awe, joy, heartbreak, gratitude, rather than staying safe, numb or half asleep. Remember, we need your uniqueness. Be a better maker, for yourself, for others, for the world.
