When visitors follow an old backlink or a mistyped URL, they land on a "page not found" error — and you lose them. The 404 Error Report shows you exactly which broken paths people are hitting and where that traffic comes from, so you can fix it with a redirect.
Available on the Elite plan.
What it shows
In your dashboard, go to Search Optimization → 404 Error Report. Paths appear in the report once they've hit at least 5 errors in the selected period — use the date-range selector to view the last 7, 30, or 90 days. For each broken path you'll see:
- Total 404s — how many times visitors hit the broken path
- Peak Day — the day with the most errors
- Top Referrers — the sites sending that traffic, so you can spot outdated backlinks
How to fix a broken path
- Click Redirect next to the broken path.
- Podpage suggests likely destination pages on your site. Pick a suggestion, or enter a custom destination.
- The redirect is created immediately — visitors who hit that path are now forwarded to the right page, and the row moves to the Fixed tab.
If a path isn't worth fixing (bot noise, random probing), click Ignore to move it to the Ignored tab and keep your report clean. You can unignore it later.
