Meghan’s ‘Private’ Visit Raises More Questions

Meghan’s decision to stay out of the spotlight draws fresh criticism, while Harry plans a deeply personal family visit and Piers Morgan weighs in on the Taylor Swift wedding snub.

Palace Intrigue is a daily British royal family podcast covering King Charles, Meghan Markle, Prince Harry, Kate Middleton and the House of Windsor. New episodes every day. Follow on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or wherever you listen. Part of the Caloroga Shark Media network.

0:00 Ah calorogus Shark Media. Hello and welcome to Palace Intrigue. I am your host, Mark Francis for The Express. Emily Wright writes, miracles do happen. It seems Meghan Markel has actually made a sensible decision. The Touchess of Sussex has reportedly decided that yes, she will come, but she is going to keep it completely private. No public appearances, no flashing cameras, no curated Netflix style photo ops, to which I say, thank goodness for that. For once, Meghan is doing everyone a giant favor. Let's be honest here. If Meghan were to step out into a public stage in Birmingham or London this week, I don't think she would be met with a sea of waving Union jacks and crowds cheering her name. She would probably be met with a chorus of booze. The British public has a long memory, and the appetite for endless complaints from a couple who spent years trashing the royal family is at an all time low. By choosing to stay hidden away in private quarters, visiting Princess Diana's grave at Orthorpe out of the camera's eye, she is saving herself from a humiliating public rejection. It is a rare flash of pr self awareness from Montecito.

1:11 More importantly, though, keeping herself out of the spotlight allows the focus to return to exactly where it belongs the Invictus Games, because whenever Megan is in the frame, the narrative inevitably changes. The focus becomes about her wardrobe, her expressions. In the latest chapter in the Endless Royal soap opera, Yes, it's a total flip flop from the spectacle we usually get. Yes, the endless hand wringing over their security arrangements has been exhausting. But if this u turn means King Charles finally gets to see his grandchildren in peace and the Invictus Games gets the dignity it deserves without a Hollywood circus sideshow, then it's a win win. Royal author Robert Jobson questioned why the Sussex announced anything if they have no intention of appearing in public, writing on his substack jobs and said, they won't be seen, not in public, not by us, So why tell us at all? You cannot have it both ways. The world must know they are here, the world must not see them. Pick one, So what's changed?

2:08 Where did the security threats go? Looking ahead, Jobson suggested a few grainy frames taken by a mag of the backs of two small heads at Diana's ancestral home make a tender picture. Tender pictures rescue bad weeks, and Harry has just had a very bad week. Indeed, public relations professional Jackie vows wade In via the podcast where pop Culture Meets pr Vous, suggested the Sussexes are deliberately keeping people guessing. I think they're playing a game now. I think they've come to the conclusion that they're damned if they do, and they're damned if they don't. And they can just play around with everybody and say one minute they're coming, in the next minute they're not, and just have everyone else play to the beat of their own drum.

2:50 It's there right if they want to behave that way, but it's damn crazy. Just tell the truth, which is something that Harkles have no concept of doing. Harry was ordly determined that Meghan's visit would include one deeply personal stop, Princess Diane's grave at Allthorpe. Harry has long wanted to bring his children to Allthorpe, the Spencer family estate in Northamptonshire, where Princess Dianne is buried. The visit would be the first time Autie and little bit I've seen the grave of the grandmother. They never knew. The timing has attracted attention after authorpe House closed to visitors on several dates this month, prompting speculation that a private family gathering could be taking place. We've got a review criticizing our coverage of Prince Harry. We're told it's getting harder to listen to all of the pro Harry proper gander. He's not being welcomed back. He's not respected nor respectful, a spoiled, petulant manchild. The real hothead is Harry. There's years of video evidence of his behavior. Three stars out of five. Well, I'm not sure what show you're listening to, but we do appreciate the three stars. More palating just a moment.

4:00 Pierre's Morgan is weighing in on one of the week's biggest celebrity stories, arguing that Prince Harry and Meghanmuncle's absence from Taylor Swift and Travis Kelsey's wedding says a great deal about whether the sussexs now stand among the Hollywood elite. Speaking on Piers Morgan, Uncen said. Morgan was joined by royal author Tom Bower and royal commentator Katie Nickel for a discussion about the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's future. Bauer argued that the couple faced an uncertain road ahead. He said, Harry and Meghan, in my view, have reached the end of a chapter and they're now into a serious problem of survival. They have been judged to be unreliable and untrustworthy by the King and by the judge.

4:43 What are they going to do for their income from now on? Katie Nicoll pointed to Taylor Swift's friendship with Kate and William, noting that William famously met the singer during her London Era's tour stop and that he and Catherine reportedly enjoyed a private meeting with Swift and Travis before the wedding. Then offered his own explanation for why the Sussexes were not among the guests. He said, the Aglisters want to be with Charles and William. They don't want to be with the renegades trashing their family. William reportedly stayed up at Windsor on very early Monday morning to watch England's dramatic World Cup victory over Mexico. As patron of the Football Association, he has watched every England match during the tournament, and it is said to have been in direct contact with players and staff throughout the competition.

5:27 According to the BBC, several England players have William's personal phone number. Should England reach the World Cup Final in New Jersey on July nineteenth, William is expected to travel to the US as both the Football Association's patron and perhaps the Royal family's most passionate football supporter. The BBC notes that football has never traditionally been the Royal family's sport. William himself choked about that during his recent appearance on The New Heights podcast with Travis and Jason. Kelsey asked whether King Charles had encouraged him to support Aston Villa, William laughter replied absolutely not. My father hates football. Sports writer Greg Evans believes William's decision to support Aston Villa rather than one of England's biggest clubs has helped make him more relatable. As part of Operation Distract from Harry. Sophie, the Duchess of Edinburgh, made a surprise appearance on the long running BBC Radio Four drama of The Archers. Sophie, who has long described herself as a fan of the series, joined the cast for Thursday's episode after secretly recording her scenes at the BBC Mailbox studios in Birmingham back in May.

6:32 Behind the scenes photographs released by the BBC show right during Harry's Big Week show, the Duchess smiling in the recording studio wearing a light blue polka dot dress as she read her lines. The cameo comes during The Archer's seventy fifth anniversary year, with the episode airing on BBC Radio Four on Thursday evening. Tennis great Sir Andy Murray has revealed that he and Kate spent much of their time talking about parenthood rather than tennis when they sat together at Wimbledon this year. Murray joined Katherine on Court one to watch Britain's Katie Swan take on Madison Keys in the second round of the Championships. While both are closely associated with Wimbledon, Murray told Good Housekeeping, We've obviously both got quite a few kids, so there was a lot to chat about with that. I spent a little bit of time with her before I know. She obviously loves her sport, loves her tennis and has come along to Wimbledon a lot of times. I was asked to go and watch one of the matches with her the other day and it was good fun. Former British number one and Kiothavong, sorry if I'm saying that incorrectly, who was also seated with them, said the conversation flowed easily.

7:33 She said, Kate didn't stop chatting. It was brilliant. Andy was there as well, and we all have kids of a similar age, so a lot of the chat revolved around that and tennis and encouraging young kids to play and the challenges that we face as parents. It was really fun. She was really interested in the tennis and really easy to talk to. Murray also shared that Catherine spoke about their children's enthusiasm for sports. I got the feeling that they're quite sporty. They've been to watch tennis before. I think they play a little bit little bit of paddle and they have it.
