Meghan Markle “Desperately Homesick”
Meghan Markle is reportedly struggling with her return to Britain, with an unnamed source telling New Idea that the Duchess of Sussex is already “desperately homesick” and counting down the days until her next trip to America.
The source claims Meghan misses her mother, her California lifestyle and even her old bed, while Prince Harry is urging her to be patient as the family adjusts to life in Britain.
Meanwhile, Harry and Meghan are returning to Nottingham for their first joint day of public engagements since moving back to the United Kingdom. The visit takes them to the city where they made their first official appearance together after announcing their engagement in 2017.
But not everyone is celebrating their comeback.
Piers Morgan has accused the Sussexes of exploiting their royal titles, while Daily Mail columnist Amanda Platell questions whether their return to Nottingham is a calculated attempt to recapture the public affection they once enjoyed. Royal commentator Richard Berthelsen suggests the couple are attempting to reclaim some of the prestige associated with being working royals.
There is also business news for Meghan. Her As Ever lifestyle brand is preparing to expand into Britain, with tea, candles and limited-edition bookmarks expected to be among the first products available. However, her famous fruit spreads and edible flower sprinkles may have to wait because of import regulations.
The Sussexes are also facing renewed questions about their children's privacy. Meghan has shared another video of Archie and Lilibet walking through the English countryside, even as Harry's previous warnings about posting photographs of children online are attracting fresh attention.
Meanwhile, Closer Weekly claims Princess Diana's brother, Earl Spencer, has offered Harry and Meghan a rent-free home on his Althorp estate.
And Hello's royal editor Emily Nash is questioning what has changed about the Sussexes' security arrangements after Meghan was photographed visiting Malala Yousafzai at Claridge's in central London, despite Harry's earlier concerns about bringing his family to the capital.
Questions this episode answers: Is Meghan Markle unhappy living in Britain? Why is Meghan reportedly homesick for California? Are Harry and Meghan trying to reclaim their royal status? Why are the Sussexes returning to Nottingham? What did Piers Morgan say about Harry and Meghan? Is Meghan launching As Ever in the UK? Why can't Meghan sell her jam in Britain yet? 0:03 Caloroga Shark Media. Hello and welcome to Palace Intrigue. I am your host, Mark Francis. Megan's As Ever brand is preparing to sell products in Britain for the first time, making the UK its first market outside the United States. The Sun reports that the initial range is expected to include tins of tea costing approximately $ 15, scented candles at around $ 67, and and limited edition bookmarks priced at about $ 20. The bookmarks are made in Britain and feature phrases in Meghan's handwriting, including, fell asleep here. Sadly, Meghan's fruit spreads are not expected to be available immediately because of food import and export rules. The edible flower sprinkles featured in With Love, Meghan are also reportedly absent from the initial British selection. An industry source told The Sun any consumer business would want to grow into as many markets as possible.
1:00 The brand previously encountered an obstacle with its British trademark application. In June 2025, the Intellectual Property Office issued a partial provisional refusal, saying parts of the proposed list of goods and services were too broad and lacked precision and clarity. The company subsequently secured protection for many of those items in December. Harry and Meghan will visit Nottingham today for their first joint day of public engagement since returning to Britain in August. They are expected to meet charities and organisations supporting young people, including the community recording studio which Harry last visited in 2025. Nottingham was the setting for their first official joint appearance after announcing their engagement in 2017.
1:42 Crowds welcomed them to the Lace Market before they attended a World AIDS Day charity fair and met headteachers at a nearby school. The visit will be undertaken independently rather than on behalf of the Royal Family. Harry has already attended charity events since the move, including engagements for Invictus and Wellchild. Meghan has been photographed on private outings, including her meeting with Malala at Claridge's, but today will mark her return to scheduled public engagements in Britain. Piers Morgan has criticised Harry and Meghan's Nottingham visit, accusing them of using their royal titles for personal advantage. They're not doing anything official. They're a pair of unofficial grifters, exploiting their royal titles in the most shameless manner. Royal commentator Richard Berthelsen tells CTV News they haven't really been clear on what their plan was for being back in the UK.
2:33 Harry and Meghan have made clear through sources in the media that they see themselves as public figures. I think this is for them to suggest to the public that they're back and they're doing the sorts of things that members of the royal family do. I think for them it's an attempt to really bathe in the aura of royalty because their positions in the public really depend on their proximity to the royal family. In the Daily Mail, Amanda Plattel writes... Why have they chosen to go back to Nottingham, where they appeared as the loved-up couple we adored all those years ago? Is it pure coincidence or sheer cunning? Is it an indication that following their recent tours of Australia and other nations where they were treated like royalty, the country where they really want to regain their royal status is the UK? Looking back at pictures of that initial appearance together, she proudly wearing her new engagement ring, it is clear that they were received rapturously by an army of Britons desperate for a glimpse or if possible a hug. And Megan provided them in abundance. Truly, it must have been a wonderfully happy time for the couple.
3:29 The sea of Union Jacks was so dense you could hardly see the pair of them. You can hardly blame them for trying to revisit it. But that was then, and this is now. As Harry will only be too aware after being booed when he appeared in the stands at Leicester Tigers rugby match last week. It was a response that showed him and Megan just how far this once adored couple have sunk in our hearts. Harry and Meghan's decision to keep Archie and Lilibet's faces out of social media posts has prompted debate about the children's privacy. An unnamed photography industry source told entertainment reporter Rob Shooter, showing their faces could make them easier to recognize, but it doesn't create the danger. Their identity already makes them targets.
4:11 A source describes Meghan to New Idea as desperately homesick already and says Harry has been begging her to cheer up and have some patience. They claim the adjustment is about more than just being lonely. citing the stuffiness and the slow pace of the UK and adding, this isn't something that can really be fixed. Meghan is said to be counting down the days until her next visit to the US. The source claims she misses her mum terribly in all her creature comforts. The insider adds, she says even her bed in England isn't as comfortable. More Pallets in just a moment. Noted paparazzo Meghan Markle shared another glimpse of Archie and Lilibet's life in Britain. posting a video of the children walking along a tree-lined path with backpacks on and a dog following behind. The celebrity photographer chose the Temptations' My Girl as the soundtrack for the clip, which appeared on her Instagram stories. It followed posts supporting International Day of the Girl, including an announcement about her partnership with the Malala Fund and a sweater collaboration, supporting Mums offering more. In October of 2025, Prince Harry was a guest on Hasan Minhaj Doesn't Know and said, Parents can do whatever they want. But from what I've seen, what I've heard, what I've experienced, is you should be really, really worried, concerned and cautious about putting photographs of your kids online. Charles Spencer has reportedly offered Harry and Meghan a permanent place to stay on the Althorpe estate, rent-free.
5:35 Closer Weekly, citing an unnamed source, says Diana's brother wants to support the couple following their return to Britain and their reported security concerns. The source claims Spencer has properties available on the estate and describes Harry as grateful for the offer. The report also claims Spencer would like a closer relationship with William, but is currently focused on helping Harry. Meghan's visit to Claridge's with Malala has prompted questions about whether the Sussexes' security arrangements have changed since their return to Britain. Hello's royal editor Emily Nash raised the issue on a Right Royal podcast, contrasting Meghan's central London outing with Harry's earlier statements about bringing his family to the capital. None of this is low-key, and this is why I think this whole move is quite extraordinary, Nash said. Lest we forget, back in June when Harry came back to the UK, he said it wasn't safe for him to bring his wife and children to the capital. So they did come to the UK and they stayed outside of London.
6:27 What has changed to make Meghan come back? She's there in central London, and it's one thing to be discreetly spotted at the table. But then she was photographed coming out in some very elegant clothing with Malala. It may not be her responsibility at all that that has happened, but what's changed? They must be confident that they are either having or about to have some better security, perhaps. Intriguingly, it seems to deviate from what we were told just a couple of months back. The Telegraph previously reported that the couple had received an interim light-touch security provision following their return while a government-backed review was underway. Nash noted, they have a private security, but they can't carry weapons, and said there are quite a lot of big men around in the photographs. And there you have it.
