00 Ah Calorogus Shark media at lo and welcome to Palace Intrigue. I'm your host to Mark Francis. King Charles had finally reunited with his grandchildren and daughter in law, with Buckingham Palace confirming that the family met privately at Highgrove on Friday afternoon. The meeting marked the first time Charles had seen Archie and Lillabet in person for four years, and according to Vanity Fairs Katie Nicol, the King was adamant that the reunion be kept private. Charles and Queen Camilla hosted the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and their children at High Grove House, the King's private country residence in Gloucestershire.
43 Buckingham Palace confirmed that the meeting had taken place, but made clear that no photographs were expected to be released and no further details would be provided. People reports that Megan, Archie and Lillabet flew in from a family vacation in Europe specifically for the reunion. Harry had returned to Britain alone on July sixth for a series of charity engagements and events connected with the twenty twenty seven in Victor's schemes in Birmingham after security concerns appeared to derail plans for Meghan and the children to accompany him. However, the possibility of a private visit outside London had remained open, and after days of speculation, Meghan brought seven year old Archie and five year old Lillibert to Britain for the first time since twenty twenty two. The children last saw Charles during the late Queen Elizabeth's Platinum and Jubilee celebrations, when Harry and Meghan returned to the United Kingdom with their family. Archie and Lilibet did not appear at any of the public Jubilee events, but Charles and Camilla spent time with them privately. The choice of Highgrove provided Charles with a setting far removed from the scrutiny that would have surrounded a meeting at Buckingham Palace or Clarence House.
47 Highgrove has been closely associated with Charles for decades and remains one of the most personal residences, particularly because of the gardens he has spent years developing there. Queen Camilla was also present for the Sussex family visit. Camilla Mainte Teens owned private home, ray Millhouse, close to the King's Gloucestershire estate. Vanity Fair reports that Charles was adamant that the gathering be kept private. May also explain the unusually limited amount of information released by the Palace. While Buckingham Palace was willing to confirm that Charles and Camilla had received Harry, Meghan and the children, officials have not disclosed how long the meeting lasted or provided any account of what happened during the family time together. Meanwhile, William and Kate were presenting a very different picture. In Windsor, Royal expert Richard fitz Williams told The Daily Express the meeting of the King, Camilla, Harry and Meghan, Archie and Lily was strictly private. Meanwhile, William and Catherine said a very different message of the polo, that of togetherness, but also publicly ignoring those who William Phields betrayed him and the monarchy.
47 They and their children are its future. Fitz Williams suggested the Palace will now be paying close attention to what happens after the private reunion, particularly if details of the High Grove meeting begin to emerge publicly. The Palace will be watching every nuance of what follows, especially considering the Sussex's faithfully symbiotic relationship with the media. In The Express, Jasmin Carey writes, King Charles just played a master's stroke. He's beaten Prince Harry at his own game. I think the monarch followed his heart and at the same time made the reunion a success on his own terms, showing Harry but he can't always get what he wants. I mean, Firstly, the meeting happened at Heighgrove House, a private family home, not a royal palace, an instant win for the King.
31 Why well, the fact is Charles' private home means he can issue a no phone rule. It is the King's private space, and Harry and Meghan, if they did take photographs, won't be able to splash this all over Instagram. From an emotional perspective, High Grove is also a great shout. It is believed to be the King's happy place, where he can enjoy the simple pleasures of life away from cameras and formality. Likewise, it is somewhere he spent a lot of time with Harry when the Prince still lived at home. Fond memories echo around the walls High Grove, making it a more apt place for the monarch to spend time with Harry and his grandchildren. So while all the parties got what they wanted, the chance for the King to spend time with Archie and Lullibet, I think it was the monarch who really came out on top roylinside a deep crown in his sub stack observes. Consider what Charles now has done. He has, through patients and a single private afternoon, effectively removed himself from the estrangement narrative.
25 He made gestures, he extended accommodation, He welcomed the grandchildren. Whatever disagreements possessed between the King and his younger son, Charles can no longer be credibly cast as the party refusing reconciliation. That position has been vacated, and quietly so, which means the weight of the estrangement now rests entirely and visibly on one set of shoulders. William was not at High Grove on Friday. He was not required to be, and one should be careful not to suggest otherwise. But optics are not obligations, and the image that now exists is this. The King found a way to see his grandchildren. The heir did not find his way to see his brother. In the court of public perception, those two facts will be weighed together, whether or not they are strictly comparable.
07 I will observe something that I think goes under examined in most coverage of this subject. William has, over the past several years cultivated an image of quiet, competence and emotional restraint. It has served him extraordinarily well. He is popular in a way that feels earned rather than inherited, which is rareer than it sounds. Kate's illness handled with genuine dignity deep in that goodwill considerably. That reservoir is not infinite, and it is not immune to a sustained narrative of fraternal coldness. Friday was a good day for Charles. It was a serviceable day for Harry. For William, it was simply a day at the polo. At some point that will need to change or palace. In just a moment, operations stopped talking about Harry is still in full effect with the announcement that the Princess of Wales is returning to Wimbledon today, where she will present the trophy to the winner of the women's seaingles final on centre Court. Catherine, who is patron of the All England Lawn Tennis Club, will watch the All Check final between number ten seeded Carolina Machova and number nine seed Linda Noskova, before presenting the Venus rosewater dish to the new Wimbledon champion. The match brings together two players who know each other particularly well.
20 Machova and Moscova have faced each other only once in a competitive match, but they regularly practiced together and were doubles partners at the twenty twenty four Paris Olympics. Catherine is expected to meet briefly with players after arriving at Wimbledon, before taking a place in the Royal Bucks for the final and a good photo. What does tend to change the storylines? The Express pointed out, as is the case when Harry is back in town. The Royal Diary was packed full to the brim Since Tuesday, the King the Queen Prince of Wales conducted thirteen engagements as they became a public example of keep calm and carry on in the face of the Sussex Show. The King had six public facing engagements and over a dozen audiences, including a Privy count meeting an investiture ceremony. The Queen was equally busy attending engagements in Sussex and joining an afternoon at Wimbledon Wednesday. Meanwhile, the Prince of Wales also conducted five public facing engagements, culminating in his annual charity polo match in Wedndessor on Friday, and today Kate visits Wimbledon.
