King and Prince Reunite for Order of the Bath Ceremony – While William Freezes Out Harry

In a ceremonial service at Westminster Abbey, Prince William will be formally installed as Great Master of the Order, a role previously held by his father for nearly half a century. The King passed the honor to his oldest son on Saint George's Day last year, as part of a wider series of distinguished appointments within the royal family. This will be the King's first participation in the Order of the Bath Services Sovereign of the Order, the ancient chivalric order, established by King George the First in seventeen twenty five, though with roots believed to stretch back to the eighth century, recognizes exceptional service by senior military officers and civil servants.

The service will then move to the historic Lady Chapel of King Henry the Seventh, where Prince William will take his oath and be officially installed. Five new Knights Grand Cross will also be invested. The solemn right includes the Sovereign making an offering of gold and silver at the altar. Each newly installed a Knight will follow suit, placing their sword upon the altar in accordance with tradition. The title of the Order Bath derives from an early ritual in which aspirants cleansed themselves by bothing before the conferment of knightwood, symbolizing in a purification through fasting, vigils and prayer. This rare father and son engagement follows a recent public statement by the Duke of Sussex, who told the BBC that he would love a reconciliation with the royal family in the wake of Prince Harry's legal defeat over security arrangements in the UK. Today's service is also a continuation of Prince William's increasing prominence within the royal household.
