Andrew’s Comeback? New Biography Claims He Feels “Thrown to the Wolves”

Prince Andrew is back in the headlines as a new edition of Andrew Lownie’s biography presents sharply conflicting portraits of the Duke of York. Friends and former girlfriends describe a thoughtful, loyal man, while former military colleagues recall entitlement and demands for deference. We also examine claims that Andrew believes he has been unfairly treated, why Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie continue to defend their family’s position, and a new analysis arguing the York sisters remain financially secure thanks to royal property, trust funds, and lucrative careers. Plus: the unusual constitutional reason King Charles technically doesn’t need a driver’s licence—and why Queen Camilla still does.

0:00 Ah Calorougus shark media that low and welcome through palace intrigue. I'm your host, Mark Francis. Andrew's relationship with the royal family continues to generate headlines, with a new biography and fresh reports suggesting the former Duke of York has no intention of quietly fading into the background. Biographer Andrew Lowney told The Mirror he doesn't think they've done anything wrong, describing Beatrice and Eugenius fighters princesses of blood who should be treated properly. I think Eugenie and Beatrice feel the same. They just take it as natural that they should be able to support Saudi businesses and be paid to attend events.

0:42 That's what they've done all their lives, and they didn't see why that should change. Seeking revenge or return to his former life would certainly fit with his character. I think he feels that he's been thrown to the wolves. For years, stories about Prince Andrew have tended to move in one direction. Allegations of arrogance, entitlement, and difficult behavior have become a familiar part of the conversation surrounding the King's younger brother, but the newly updated edition of Lowney's book, Entitle also includes voices offering a very different assessment. Among them is Ian Henry, who attended Dartmouth Naval College with Andrew and remained a close friend for decades. According to the book, the friendship endured long after their military training ended. Andrew later became godfather to one of Henry's children and was known for remembering birthdays and sending thoughtful presents. Former girlfriend Kim Dias also offen a notably positive recollection of Andrew.

1:31 She said, people think that because he's so good looking, he's not a nice person, but he's extremely sensitive and kind. He certainly doesn't live up to his nickname of Randy Andy at all. He's simply a good friend. Another former partner, Lady Victoria Hervey, has long been one of Andrew's most outspoken defenders. Speaking previously about the controversy surrounding Andrew's friendship with Jeffrey Epstein, she argued that the relationship had been misunderstood. She said, it's very hard for anyone to kind of try and imagine being in his shoes. But he's a male, he's single, he needs to date. He's not going to be sitting in a monastery his whole life. Discussing Epstein. Lady Victoria said they'd known each other for a long time at this point, and he sort of thought, Okay, well he knows beautiful women, and you know, there's like so many other people out there and no one's talking about it. She also made headlines with another remark, saying, if you're not in those files, it would be an insult because it just means that you were a bit of a loser. Andrew, for his part, has consistently denied any wrongdoing. Henry's view is that Andrew's personality is often misunderstood.

2:30 He told Lowning he was born in the wrong age and would have been happier as an Edwardian gentleman. He puts on his Royal hat to protect himself. That's his veneer. Yet not everyone who served alongside Andrew in the Royal Navy he shares that assessment. One former serviceman stationed at the Royal Naval Air Station Couldrow's recall that Andrew expected a level of deference that many found unusual. He said, he wants his own way, and when he is around, you have to bow and scrape, even when he drives around the base in his car. You have to salute that. I mean, fancy saluting a flipping car. In the Daily Mail, royal finances author Norman Baker argues that Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie are unlikely to face serious financial trouble, despite the scandals surrounding their parents. Baker, author of and What Do You Do What the Royal Family Don't Want you to Know, told the Daily Mail. Anyone worried that the York daughters may end up short of cash given the Shenanigans of their parents, need not worry. He pointed first to Beatrice's living arrangements and family finances. Baker said Beatrice, with multimillion pound husband Eduardo, has a six bedroom farmhouse in the Cotswolds, equipped with tennis courts, of swimming pool and even a guesthouse. It cost them three and a half million pounds. Luckily, although Beatrice is a non working Royal, their two bedroom apartment in exclusive Saint James Pallace comes rent free. Baker also highlighted Eugenie's situation, saying Eugenie, also a non working Royal and multimillion pound husband Jack have a fabulous house in Portugal, but luckily can relax rent free in Ivy Cottage in the most highly desirable part of Kensington. The daughter's benefit from trust funds established for

4:03 each of them by the Queen Mother in the nineteen nineties and subsequently by the late Queen Elizabeth as well. They were designed to ensure the absolute minimum would have to be paid in tax. Their father also set up a trust fund for them. So far, so straightforward, even if both benefit from a set of circumstances weigh beyond the dreams of most ordinary people. Rather more questionable are their business dealings. You can't choose your parents, but you can choose whether to follow them down the same track. You then criticized some of the connections Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie were exposed to through their father. Bacon notes that Beatrice found a company called b y e Q short for Beatrice Yorke Emotional Quotient, which he says brought in and around five hundred pounds in twenty twenty four, despite having one director, a short website, and no employees.

4:52 Eugenie meanwhile works in the art world and is now a director at the Mayfair gallery, Hauser and Worth. Baker said of Eugenie's role, it does not seem a very onerous matter for her. She managed to take twenty five days holiday in her first ten weeks. There more palsing, just a moment. King Charles enjoys one motoring privilege that no other member of the royal family can claim. Technically, he does not need a driving license. The unusual arrangement stems from a constitutional quirk that dates back generations. British driving licenses are issued in the name of the monarch, meaning the King cannot really issue a license to himself. That does not mean Charles never passed a driving test. Former Royal butler Ground Harold explains, as monarch, the King doesn't technically need a license. This is because they are issued in his name. However, he'll have one anyway, as he would have needed it when he was the Prince of Wales, and again he would have at least taken the test just like everyone else. All the Royals have to learn to drive just like the rest of us.

5:49 They have to do the same theory and practical tests and have to do all the revision and practice that comes with them. The license exemption is not the monarchy's only motoring privilege. State vehicles used by the King to not the license exemption is not the monarch's only motoring privilege. State vehicles used by the King do not require number plates. Because vehicle registrations like driving licenses, are issued under the authority of the Crown, the privilege is unique to the sovereign. Even Queen Kim Miller still requires a valid driver's license if she wishes to get behind the wheel. And there you have it here before you go.
