We're excited to have a special guest with us today, Mr. Gerry Dick from Inside Indiana Business. Gerry Dick is a legendary business broadcaster in Indianapolis and has been the voice of Indy businesses for decades.

As we start the show, Devin and I comment on the quality of Gerry's background and his experience in production and television. Gerry has been in the TV business for over 40 years, with his TV show running for 25 years now, which is quite an achievement.
Gerry shares his first TV experience with us, which goes back to 1981 when he was a college student at Indiana State. He got a weekend weather reporter's job, even though he didn't know anything about the weather. He recounts how he was shaking with nerves on his first day because he was live on air and had to make the broadcast. However, once the camera was rolling, something clicked, and he got through the report.
Gerry also gives us a bit of advice for new broadcasters: always be prepared. The most nerve-wracking times are when you don't think you're prepared. Being prepared helps you avoid nervousness and perform better on air.
Devin asks Gerry about the inaccuracy of weather forecasts. As someone who has worked in the weather department, Gerry explains that weather forecasts are not always accurate due to the complexity of weather patterns. There are multiple factors to consider, and sometimes the weather just doesn't behave as predicted. But the weather department is always working to improve their forecasts and make them as accurate as possible.
