Speaker:

Deana Brown Mitchell: Hello, everybody, it's Deana Mitchell with the Realize Foundation. And I'm here today talking to Jacob Haslam about his chapter in our upcoming scars, the stars Volume Two book, which is going to launch on September 22. So welcome, Jacob.

Jacob Haslem:

Thank you. Great to be here.

Jacob Haslem:

Deana Brown Mitchell: Awesome. Good to have you. So I told you a few questions. So the first question is, tell the audience a little bit about your chapter and what you wrote about.

Jacob Haslem:

Okay, my chapter is about me. And it starts with the idea that we're all stars, because our hearts are beating and electricity is pulsing through our bodies. And when I started to investigate this idea, I wanted to find out who I am, I wanted to challenge myself and put myself through something difficult. And, you know, no matter what come out on top, and I did that with some performance in the world, acrobatics and acting, and it really challenged me and it burst my ego bubble. And it also introduced me to who I am and what I'm capable of, and my chapters about that story.

Jacob Haslem:

Deana Brown Mitchell: That's great. And it's, it's an awesome story. And very interesting. And I feel like you've had a lot of experiences in your life that most people don't get to experience. So I think people are going to be interested to read about your story and what you've been through some good, some bad, but you know, all of it together is is a great story. So my second question is, how was your experience writing your story?

Jacob Haslem:

You're writing it. It's almost like it was living in this imaginary realm of my mind. And then I wrote it. And now it's become a fact that nature holds and gives back to me. And when I when I wrote it, and it was edited, and some things that I thought were important that were taken out, I could tell that it was better, that I didn't need to put that idea of how my experience may be in a relationship with someone else, or being in front of an audience or being hosted by a specific individual didn't need to be part of the story, because it was my interpretation of who they are without actually knowing who they are. And when I wrote it and read it, I was really, I was so grateful to see it on paper and have an opportunity to share it with others in a refined way. And I know it will serve them and it makes me want to write more.

Jacob Haslem:

Deana Brown Mitchell: Awesome, that's great. Well, you talk a lot about the fact I've had this conversation a few times today with other people is that we write our we think like, Yeah, we're gonna write our story, and it's going to help other people. And then we realize when we do it, that it really helps us. Like it really helps us process things that helps us heal, it helps us understand things in a in a different way, when we write it on paper, especially when we know other people are going to read it. So thank you for for sharing your story and in such a public way and giving that gift to the universe for whoever else needs to hear you know what you're talking about, and, and knowing they're not alone, because that's our whole purpose is the realize foundation is all about reducing suicide rates through human connection. And we accomplish that by personal stories, by conversations and by building our communities with our events and our books. And it's it, it has changed lives. And it has it's made a difference already. So we're looking forward to it. Just a ripple effect in the world with more books and more people involved and how we can change other's lives. So do you have anything you want to add? Before we end our time?

Jacob Haslem:

Yeah, to that I want to add that stars are our every type of person in the world and you are definitely one and that will never change. And you've made us stars because we were just ideas of what we were doing until it was on paper and the world about to you know, read it and relate to it and communicate with someone else out there that they can that hopefully they can hold you know solutions to their own drama's from so thank you. Thank you.

Jacob Haslem:

Deana Brown Mitchell: Thank you. Yeah. Okay. So if anyone's listening, they want to know, how do we get the book? Or how do we see the book launch. So it's going to be on September 20 seconds.
