04 Hello everyone and welcome to ideas for a better life. I am Eugenio Palla, ruiz, reader, hard- working, writer and lover of personal development. In today' s episode we will talk about the book Sovereignty, a book written very recently by Emma Zepala. To be a sovereign person means to regain your inner power, means to be able to live with more freedom, free yourself from those social expectations, from the traumas of the past and from limiting beliefs. So the goal of the book, its central idea is to go explaining step by step, how we can recover that sovereignty by taking the steps above. The first thing to say is that many people struggle against an inner critic who carries within and without and who blocks their potential and exhausts their energy. But one thing has to be understood. There is a huge difference between self- criticism and self- awareness. Self- criticism is hard thoughts with yourself that exhaust your mental and physical well- being. And, obviously, in the long run, that way of thinking, that self- criticism is going to give you anxiety, it' s going to generate depression and it' s going to bring you all the problems you know. Self- consciousness, on the other hand, helps you recognize your flaws without judging them
38 as very important, and foster growth and learning. And this is very different from encouraging shame, encouraging self- criticism and encouraging such a demanding and so critical mentality with oneself. What happens is that human beings have a deep- rooted need for social approval, and this can lead us to change, to try to adapt to the expectations of others and to harm or hide or bury our true self. That despair of belonging to a group can cause a lot of stress. So what the book proposes is that, instead of looking only at others to know how you have to act, the important thing is to understand that true belonging begins by accepting and valuing oneself. That is, there is no belonging, there cannot be if a person has not accepted himself before and does not value himself. So treat yourself with the same kindness you would treat a friend or a person you love a relative with. And when you fail or when you make a mistake that' s inevitable and everyone makes them.
05 Don' t fall into that spiral of self- criticism. Be aware of the mistake, but don' t criticize it. Don' t fall for self- criticism. Another important idea of the Book to regain our personal sovereignty is to know, to manage your emotions. There are many people who try to suppress their emotions, or more than repress them, numb them with food with alcohol, with drugs, even with massive entertainment, even watching a football game. But in the end you realize that' s just a quick fix. And that quick fix all it does is intensify emotions and have negative effects on health in the long term. The problem is that society tells us that showing emotions, especially in work environments, is inappropriate and this mistake only leads to people repressing their emotions and repressing your emotions. All he' s going to do is increase your stress and harm your physical health and mental health.
21 Instead of repressing your emotions, the book recommends accepting them and observing them. Accepting and observing your emotions without identifying with them is key to regaining control. Try to look at situations that happen to you from different perspectives or do breathing exercises to try to calm your nervous system and restore rational thinking before acting, before responding to a situation that happens to you. Another way to process your emotions can be creativity, you may learn to manage your emotions through writing, through drawing, through music. Expressing those emotions in a creative way is going to bring you much more relief than exploding, much more than repressing them or letting them go, going out in a violent way or exercising, for example, to be able to be outdoors in another great way, to process your emotions in a healthier way. In the end, the key that the book gives us is that your emotional well- being is in your hands and that you can regain control over yourself and your emotions. Another very important aspect to be aware of the type of media you consume. Focus on content that encourages content that inspires you instead of sitting in front of the television and letting
57 others avidate your fear, your anxiety that throws garbage into your mental garden, which is what happens when you put yourself in front of the television and just let others be the ones who manage and decide the content to which you are exposed. Another very important point, the subject of limiting beliefs. You know that beliefs are deeply rooted ideas that are formed within us from the experiences that have happened to us in life or from social conditioning, for example, with the media that we talked about before. And those beliefs can be positive or empowering, they can be neutral, or they can be limiting or negative.
45 Those ideas, those beliefs shape everything, shape our perceptions, and therefore shape our reactions, and obviously, at the end of the cycle, they are also responsible for the results we get. Then, the book invites us to recognize what are the limiting beliefs that are diminishing our power. Take the time to think about them, what things, what preconceived ideas you have in your mind that are preventing you from succeeding, that are preventing you from doing what you want to do and doing it in a healthy way. Be nice.
25 With yourself understand where those limiting beliefs come from and then ask yourself if they are true. Everyone who' s from I don' t know what country they are. I don' t know what you' re absurd all the short ones are, I don' t know what else. Many times, most of the beliefs we have are absurd. And another important point to regain your personal sovereignty is to establish good relations with others. People you relate to can change your life. Social connections you already know are vital to your physical health and mental health, so take time to really worry about others, to show interest in the people you have nearby. Offer support, offer kindness, offer compassion, understanding, especially in difficult times, avoid blaming others, forgive mistakes that others can make, and focus on the positive aspects of the whole world to create a positive environment in which you can flourish and not an environment in which you are permanently uncomfortable. In the end, the negative relationships, which are those you already know where your energy is drained instead of sharing your energy with the other person. Such negative relationships often come from unresolved limiting beliefs,
58 that is, emotional wounds from the past. That' s important to understand and change. Another vital component for a positive relationship forgiveness, letting go of grudges. Forgiveness already you know that it is an act of self- pity rather than an act in favor of the other person, because when you forgive you are freeing yourself from the burden of the past, you are improving your personal sovereignty. Forgiveness makes you freer, makes you carry less backpacks, less loads. It' s an even selfish act. If you forgive someone else, you' ll be better off. The other person will necessarily be better. Another important point in regaining your personal sovereignty is to start relying on your intuition and, unfortunately, society seems to have given up intuition in favor of the logic of reason. And it' s a shame. Many times, what happens is that we don' t even have time to listen to our intuition, because we don' t leave a space for silence in our day to day, it reduces distractions in the form of news, opinions, entertainment, program dead times in your agenda, in your day to day to allow your mind to have space, space for what, then, space for creativity, space to listen to your intuition. And that is done, then,
30 taking a walk in the park or listening to music or being silent for a while, without needing to be doing anything. And this is a natural need of our body. And another point the book gives us is precisely related to this. Many people live disconnected from the natural needs of their body and there is no sovereignty without physical health and mental health. It' s like personal development or how professional development can' t exist if there isn' t a physical and mental health basis before. The problem is that we mistreat our bodies in many ways, ignore natural rhythms, lead a sedentary lifestyle, eat unhealthy foods and spend too much time in artificial environments or surrounded by harmful substances, and that has consequences. There' s no way he doesn' t have them. So here the book, in this section gives us the recommendations that I think if you listen to the podcast, you know them. Rest well, eat real food, move tea spends a lot of time in nature.
41 He regularly devotes time to reflection, to meditation, spends some time disconnected, enjoys solitude from time to time. Anyway, I think this part of the book I summarized by saying that he treats your body as an ally, not as an enemy. So you know that. Recover your personal sovereignty, change limiting beliefs for empowering beliefs, manage your emotions, take advantage of your intuition, build positive relationships and also, of course, reconnect with your body, with your mind and with your spirit and you will see how your life transforms for the better. And before I say goodbye today, I have some news to share with you. This week I published my first novel. It is a historical thriller entitled The Sacred Table. It is a fictional novel that is full of intrigue, of suspense and, moreover, I have introduced it to the contest Amazon Storyteller two thousand twenty- four, which is something that makes me very excited. It' s my first novel and, besides, it' s obviously also the first I can present to such an important contest.
56 So, if you are passionate about the novels that keep you in the beginning, in the end I invite you to take a look at The Sacred Table measure and what it is about, because it is a power struggle, a novel about power that spans centuries of history from medieval Spain of the 11th century to the dark days of the Second World War. It is an archaeological discovery that happens in a small town that is also mine and that triggers a series of events that connect the secrets of the war with ancient conspiracies and also culminate in an end that I think is quite surprising. So, if you enjoy this podcast and you also love reading thriller novels or adventure mystery, because I have a gift for you.
