11 Hello everyone and welcome to ideas for a better life. I am Eugenio fencer Ruiz, a heavy reader and lover of personal development. Today I want to talk to you about prosperity, but not material prosperity, but the temporal prosperity of being rich in time. Before you start, as always remind yourself that you have at your disposal a compilation of the most relevant ideas and tips on personal development. In my own four books. I leave you as always their link in the notes of the episode and also since many of you have asked me how and where to train in personal development. I tell you what has worked for me, which is the master' s degree in personal development online, IPP' s institute of positive thinking. You know that I think it is the best training that exists in this field, because it covers depth the six areas of life, self- knowledge, body and health, emotions, relationships, transcendence and money and professional career. If you want to take a look at your free class mastre without any commitment. I also leave you the link in the episode notes and now we' re going to talk about temporary prosperity. Time is the most important resource we have. We need time for everything is to say the resource par excellence, but, unfortunately, today it

45 seems that it is precisely what is most scarce in time, from jobs to social networks. It seems that everything and everyone wants to take away our time. I' m sure what I just told you doesn' t surprise you at all and you feel identified or identified. With this, on the one hand, we have that time is something finite. We have a certain number of hours a day, we have a certain number of hours in a week and we have a certain number of hours in a lifetime. An hour is an hour for everyone. It' s sixty minutes, that' s three six hundred seconds. One day has twenty- four hours for everyone. It is exactly the same for you for me or for the person who succeeds in life. But on another level, time is a much more fluid, much less measurable phenomenon, because what we get in our time depends on three factors.

46 First of all, how we use that time. We' re doing something interesting. We' re doing something useful. If so, we' re going to make a lot more use of it at an hour than if we' re lying on the couch looking at the mobile phone, you' re going to run, you' re going to get more resistance, you start working in a secondary business in addition to your main job and you' re also passionate about it, so you' re going to get more money and more satisfaction, which you dedicate that time to reading a book, you ' re going to get more knowledge. What doesn' t make sense is sitting on the couch looking at the pictures of other people' s lives on social media. Of course, it gives you absolutely nothing at that hour.

29 You' re gonna lose it, you' re gonna throw it down the video, down the drain. The second factor to measure our time is how much energy you have if you' re animated, you' re going to spend that hour in a more pleasant and productive way. If you' re exhausted, you won' t be able to do anything with that hour, let alone enjoy it. And the third factor that tells us if we' re going to take advantage of our time is not how much we' re aware, we' re paying attention to what we' re experiencing or not, whether we' re not going to lose that hour, even though we ' re doing something amazing, because time is going to happen as if you ' ve barely lived it, simply because you' re not aware of what you' re doing. Obviously, we cannot change the fact that our time is limited, but we can start to take advantage of it more. We can stop wasting so much time to get what you want in life. You have to keep your time, you have to keep your energy and you have to keep your attention. You can imagine your life as a garden and in that garden you' re trying to grow some plants. Every plant is something you want in your life. A plant will be your family. Another plant will be your professional career. Another plant will be your health, another your relationships, another your hobbies, etcetera. But your garden of life has a linen space. You' re only going to fit certain things, usually between

04 five and ten, and I' d tell you that closer to five than ten. And how we water that garden, because, like any other garden with water, what happens is that in this case, in this virtual garden, in this metaphorical garden, water is your time. It' s your energy and it' s your attention? So your water is a very limited resource and you have to distribute it very carefully. If you don' t devote time, energy and attention to the plant of your career, that is, if you don' t water the plant of your professional career, it won' t grow. But if you dedicate all your water to that particular plant, because that plant will grow very strong and very healthy, but all the others will die. Then. In that garden of life there are plants that deserve your water more and that are not receiving it and others that are weeds and that do not deserve your water. The water you give those weeds, you' re wasting it. It' s those plants you don' t want to grow that are diverting from the plants that do want all your attention, your energy and your time and we all have weeds in our garden.

18 So, even if it sounds difficult, you have to find those weeds, you have to tear them out and you have to be constantly watching that other new weeds don' t slip into your garden and start taking root and start growing and start taking away the energy, attention and time that the few plants that have to be in that garden deserve. So you have to think very carefully about how you invest your time. No matter what you choose to do with it. You will always experience a result as a consequence. If you take a walk, you' ll improve your physical form a little bit.

59 If you smoke ten cigarettes, you' ll do the opposite. You choose, and that' s what it' s all about. That' s life. You have to make decisions, always including the decision of how you use your time. And that decision is actually an investment decision. You spend a certain amount of time on one activity or another and you get something in return, and that something can be better or worse. There are activities that give you better results than others. And you' re gonna tell me now is that I don' t have a choice. I can' t spend my time on what I want because I have a lot of obligations. I have a full schedule, I have to go to work, I have to meet deadlines, I have to make the purchase, I have to answer the calls. If I know, the list is endless and to some extent true, but in reality we all have much more freedom about how to use our time than we usually think. Evidently, you have to go shopping, you have to pay taxes, you have to take the dog out for a walk. But if we go over the list of all the commitments we' re making with other people, you' re going to realize that many of those activities that you think are necessary are just commitments that you' re making.

20 You choose to do those things, and that' s fine. But it' s okay if you get something good from them. And many times we do things, we put on obligations that we are simply taking on because of a wrong sense of courtesy or a sense of obligation, and we have to stop doing so. All those unnecessary and uncompromising commitments may not be taking too much time, but if you add them up, you' re all going to see that you' re losing many, many hours, every week and, in any case, you have a lot more wave options than you think. Even when you have to do something, yes or yes, you have a lot of freedom to decide how to do it. If you have to go to work, then you can choose how to move to work.

11 You can go by public transport, you can go by car, for example, or walk. The choice is yours and some options will be better for your body or better for the environment than others, Even if you have no choice but to go by car, you can also choose. You can choose, for example, if you go alone or if you share the car worth. You can' t share the good car, you can still choose what you do while driving alone. You' re listening to music, you' re listening to the news, you' re listening to a podcast, you ' re listening to an audio book, you' re talking on the phone or you' re going to go fighting with the other drivers. As small as these decisions seem, they have the ability to completely transform our experience.

54 If we listen to quiet music, we will turn at the time of driving the job, into a moment of relaxation. If we put on an audio book, we will turn it into a time of learning and if we fight with the other drivers, we will be once again throwing our time away. Think, for example, of that situation that we all live in every day, that situation in which you are waiting for something to happen. You' re waiting for your phone to be picked up, you' re waiting for the elevator, you' re waiting for the waiter to bring you the bill. You' re waiting for what you' re cooking to be finished cooking. Many of these experiences last only a few minutes or a few seconds, but all the experiences add up and what we do most people how we fill that empty time while waiting to pick up the mobile phone. Looking at the phone has become the default activity of most of us when we have a little bit of free time, even a few seconds, and that makes us spend a lot of our free time as if we were zombies in front of a screen. If they' re not our phones they' re our computers and if they' re not our computers it' s television. No one forces us to waste our time that way. We can always make better use of that time, even if it' s two minutes. So the next time you' re waiting somewhere and you' re tempted to hold your hand in

24 your pocket and pull your cell phone out for and breathe, there' s some urgent information you need to look at right now, or you just want to fill the void. You feel uncomfortable thinking about your things, watching the world around you think about it and if you' re just doing it so you don' t feel uncomfortable, don' t look around. Watch people breathe consciously, do even some stretching, anything that helps you to be in tune with your body, your mind, and the environment, which is exactly the three things you lose when you jump immediately to pick up the phone.

13 That is called to pay full attention, and full attention helps us to enjoy more of the present moment. What happens is that during the day many of us are so lost in our worries that we forget to pay attention to the world around us. And the goal is to get your mind out of that state of distraction, get you back to the present moment. Think this could literally be the last time you' re in that place here, in your house, wherever, wherever. I' m telling you straight. There are terrible things that can happen to us in the blink of an eye without warning in seconds. And all we know for sure is that one day we' re going to die. And that day can be today, it can be tomorrow, it can be in twenty years or fifty. We just don' t know. And that' s what it' s about. And that ' s why I invite you to taste every moment as if it were the last, because c is that it could actually be the last. Literally, it could be the last one. We don' t know. The next time you' re eating, for example, stop doing anything else loose to your mobile and get all your attention into what you' re experiencing, in the flavors, in the smells, in the textures of the food. Give each bite the time it deserves to chew well swallow and then pass to the

43 next bite. Observe the muscle sensations that intervene in the whole eating process and if you do that, you will enrich the experience and make those minutes remain engraved in your mind and that somehow has lengthened the time. They allow you to discern fruiting more than you are doing, not only because you eat slower than that is already a thing to keep in mind and a healthy thing, but also because you eat more attentively. When you pay attention to what you do, time goes slower. And this doesn' t just apply to eating, it applies to anything. You can practice that kind of simple mindful with the music you hear in the car, with the background noises you hear on the street with the physical sensations that makes you give yourself a hot bath whatever you want. You can be aware of everything, so you know that.

39 Maybe you can' t stop time literally, but you can slow it down, you can make more of it, you can use it in a smarter way. You can be more aware of what you do. Save time to practice full attention to do things that really bring you something positive. Remember those five ten plants in the garden of your life and the end result of doing all that is nothing but temporary prosperity, which is certainly something that will help you live better.
