for all creatives!
the best creative process podcast, for all creative processes! I am an illustrator and I relate sO much to these discussions and get to chuckle along the way, also love discovering new comics! Yay! Thanks WIO team!!
Pete Docter ep was so interesting!
I think I found my favorite episode to write a review about! New episodes always go to the top of my podcast rotation, i’m a big fan.
Love the show!
Love the show! I really enjoy Mike’s stand up specials and loved seeing him on the Please Stop the Ride tour. I just followed show and didn’t even notice the premise. I love getting to listen to the work that comedians do to create sets. The interviews are fun, funny and also informative. It has become a favorite podcast.
Cozy cozy cozy funny
I have a lot of faves but the Nathan Lane one made me so happy. What a treasure.
Easy listening and fun guests
I really enjoy listening to podcasts. I’ve been a fan of Mike’s for a while, and this introduces me to new comics and lets me listen to comics I know talking about their lives and what they do. Each one is like a little comedy special of its own. My recent favorites were with Atsuko Okatsuka and Nikki Glaser. And as I was writing this review, a different podcast started autoplaying and I’m annoyed and need to go back now to pick a different Working It Out episode. Because other bonus: they have a LOT of back episodes.
🔥🔥 Joey Pants is On Fire 🔥🔥
I mean, I love Birbigs times infinity, so I knew I’d love this pod, but I certainly wasn’t proven wrong in my undying love for this wildly talented guy. Bravo, sir! Not to downplay Joey, but after listening since episode 1, I’m not certain Mike is the coolest bro and I’mHere for every minute of it
BEST Podcast around!
If you love funny, poignant, irreverently smart humor..if you are a creative person in any way, you will LOVE this podcast. And who doesn’t love Mike Birbiglia?! I have laughed and I have learned so much about the creative process as a writer!! Keep doing what you are doing, Mike! You are inspiring and uplifting in the most difficult of times!!
Unique and exceptional
This is one of my favorite podcasts because it combines interview with behind the scenes access to the world of comedy. Love the Ira Glass episodes as well as introductions to many comics I hadn’t heard of previously. Tell your friends! Tell your enemies!
good one, mike!
helps so much with the writing process, so insightful, and so funny.
Recommend The Good Life and podcast
The Good Life a great mix of serious and funny, and Mike does an excellent job of moving between the two seamlessly. The serious parts are thoughtful and compelling and the laughs are a pleasant relief. As a long-time listener of the podcast, it was interesting/fun to recognize some of the jokes that I heard him “working it out“ previously.
Wonderful writer
I can’t say enough good things about Mike’s stand up special The Good Life. I was a wonderful thoughtful moving piece of storytelling.
Thank you!
I heard a clip of the good life on NPR and it made me laugh so much, I watched the old man by the pool and the one where he puts a sheet with a hole over his head and I’m laughing now just thinking about it. I was entranced in laughter. My stomach hurt. I love that MB’s work is so clean and so hysterical. It is spiritual too. I love the way he gets loud and soft. I love that he puts out kind messages into the world when times feel lousy. Then he made me laugh a lot and I am grateful. Also really appreciate that he teaches you stuff on his podcast. Thanks again.
came for the comedy, but stayed for the creative advice and life lessons
I can’t say enough good things about this podcast, I reccomend it to people constantly. I’ve been a huge fan of Mike Birbiglia’s comedy/storytelling through out the years, and many of his guests I really love and appreciate their work (the Tig Notaro episodes are amazing!) one of things I really appreciate is how mike manages to have conversations with people he doesn’t necessarily agree with on certain topics, and still have it be entertaining and respectful. I really would love to hear Bo Burnham or James Acaster on Working It Out one day!
Birbigs is the birbest
Love his voice, his ridiculousness, his kindness, his perspective. I belly-laughed many times during his latest chat with Ira Glass 5/5/25) 🩵
Required Listening for Creatives
This is a big part of my writing routine. So many gems!
Good vibes
I adore this podcast, your standup, Sleep Walk With Me …and really whatever else you’re up to, Mike! Recently introduced to the podcast and it’s such a wonderful listen. A fantastic mix of humor, laid back vibes, comedy process, and the (can be) heavy real life stuff. And what to treat when we get to hear the “working it out” process - the episode with Ira Glass was 🤯 Keep it up, cheering for you from MN!
Far and away the best podcast about the craft of comedy
If you’re interested in the construction of jokes and stand-up comedy, there is no better podcast than Working It Out. The recent episode with Ira Glass is a true masterclass from Mike Birbiglia.
Wonderful for Creatives
Such great advice for creatives of all kinds! A lot of discussion about gratitude, inspiration, staying true to yourself, & communicating better with those you care about. Love all of this and the fact that each guest recommends a charity at the end.
Great show
So, so good
What a beautiful conversation
Been listening for a while now, but this episode is a masterclass, I was cackling on the subway. Just funny and vulnerable and human.
Subway tag- iGlass
Love the show— never left a comment on a pod, but for the subway digression I’m thinking: “PEOPLE HAVE BEEN BORN ON THE SUBWAY, and you’ve never taken it once in 50 years.” I like that angle. Love ya Mike! :)
Ira glass deconstructing a joke episode
This is an amazing episode. How helpful in understanding how to do comedy for the novice.
One of my all-time faves
Love Birbigs, love his guests, love the conversations and process diary. He should add minisodes where he works through bits with his fans who are aspiring comics. Me first.
I absolutely love this podcast!
There’s so many layers to this podcast and it warms my writer’s heart to listen to processes amidst stories. Favorite episode: Josh Johnson!!!!
