Listener Reviews

Far and away the best podcast about the craft of comedy
If you’re interested in the construction of jokes and stand-up comedy, there is no better podcast than Working It Out. The recent episode with Ira Glass is a true masterclass from Mike Birbiglia.
Wonderful for Creatives
Such great advice for creatives of all kinds! A lot of discussion about gratitude, inspiration, staying true to yourself, & communicating better with those you care about. Love all of this and the fact that each guest recommends a charity at the end.
Great show
So, so good
What a beautiful conversation
Been listening for a while now, but this episode is a masterclass, I was cackling on the subway. Just funny and vulnerable and human.
Subway tag- iGlass
Love the show— never left a comment on a pod, but for the subway digression I’m thinking: “PEOPLE HAVE BEEN BORN ON THE SUBWAY, and you’ve never taken it once in 50 years.” I like that angle. Love ya Mike! :)
Ira glass deconstructing a joke episode
This is an amazing episode. How helpful in understanding how to do comedy for the novice.
One of my all-time faves
Love Birbigs, love his guests, love the conversations and process diary. He should add minisodes where he works through bits with his fans who are aspiring comics. Me first.
I absolutely love this podcast!
There’s so many layers to this podcast and it warms my writer’s heart to listen to processes amidst stories. Favorite episode: Josh Johnson!!!!
My Favorite Podcast of all time
Mike delivers great conversations, comedy, creativity tips, deeper life insights all in good fun. It’s such a joy to listen to.
The easiest listen
Mike is not only insanely brilliant and vulnerable and kind, he’s also SUCH A GOOD LISTENER. My favorite thing about this podcast is that super smart and funny people are allowed to get complete thoughts out without being interrupted for the sake of a bit. I love comedy, and love comedians… but that level of patient silence is so hard to find. I’d love to recommend a favorite ep, but I sincerely love so many that it would be hard to name one. Just look through the archives, find a name you’re drawn to and hit play. You’ll love it.
Loving Working it Out
I love your podcast, Mike! My husband introduced me to it and now I cannot get enough. Josh Johnson episode made me laugh out loud-he’s terrific and no doubt is on his way to GOAT!! Gonna go listen to Adam and Ben now. Keep up the great work🩷
Questlove's Episode-My Favorite!
Mike Birbiglia and his podcast creates space for engaging stories and insight-fullness. Questlove's episode has touched me in very deep ways. Thank you, Mike Birbiglia and Questlove! This episode has offered me lots of tools to help me be a more authentic version of myself in everyday life. Perfect timing! Thank you! Up until today, I couldn't decide on a favorite episode, but now I've found it! -Big Fan in Sacramento, CA
Well done!
You don’t offend people even when you’re criticizing them (Andrew Schulz)Keeping the company and conversation of people (like Alex Jones)and laughing along or censoring the cruelty is The Banality of evil, Hannah Arendt.
Great show
Always love the comics and other guests. Saw Mike do Sleepwalk With Me when I was a film student years ago, have been a fan ever since.
A+ the best of pods
I’m a lifelong devoted fan of Mike’s and his podcast brings me joy weekend and week out with each episode. Never stale or boring or old material, mike is always sharper than attack and has wonderful guests on.
Mike, You're Such a Joy!
This is my new favorite podcast to listen to when I'm looking to relax and have a few laughs. Mike's comedy is lighthearted and playful yet deeply meaningful. The episode(s) with Tig Notaro are my favorite. I wish I could be besties with these delightful humans. Thank you Mike, for sharing your special joy with the world! ❤️
My favorite!
The best!!!
Pete G-13
Holmes. “Pete G-13” The title of your new hour? Please? OKAY! Thanks :)
Not all Christians are Catholic
I really enjoy this show, but on the latest episode with Pete, Mike is kind of confused. He keeps saying Christians use rosary beads, but only Catholics do. Also, when he is talking about Christian theology he is actually talking about Catholic church doctrine. There are MANY versions of Christianity or any religion. Catholicism has its own interpretation of every Christian concept.
For the love of Nathan
I’ve always enjoyed Mike Birbiglia’s work on stage/screen, and I’ve regularly “liked” clips of the podcast on TikTok and Instagram, but Nathan Lane sold me on subscribing and listening. I listened on a recent flight and had to suppress chuckles and teary eyes. What a gem of an episode.
Nathan Lane
I’ve been listening for a few weeks and love the show, BUT Nathan Lane was brilliant!!Terrific podcast—I highly recommend it.
Working It Out with Nathan Lane
Beautiful and hilarious episode with Mike and Nathan Lane- one of my favorite Working It Out shows yet! Nathan is so humble and sweet and the talent these two bring is incredible. They should make a film together!
You’re So kind
I just listened to the Elyse Myers podcast and want to comment on how very kind and nurturing you were to her. It warmed my heart to listen as you poured affirmations into her and provided possible guardrails to encourage her to purse live storytelling in a way that could give her comfort. 💚💚
Love it
Easy listening, funny, interesting, great guests. Comforting show.
