Interesting and Delightful
This show is such a treat. It's fun and really interesting as well. The discussion and questions are great and then the part where they work on/discuss jokes is also very interesting. It's cool to hear a bit of that process.
😻
It’s just Birbigs being Berbigs. So it’s good.
First hand comedy
I love to hear the beginning process of new material and working out bits with other comedians. Listening to this podcast makes me feel like I am hanging out with the greats and learning all about comedy.
Very enjoyable and thought-provoking
I get a lot out of these eps. Thank you.
One of my go-to, favorite podcasts!
Intimate, honest conversations with some of the most interesting comedians in the business. The best part is there Is no PR canned answers, nobody is on here selling anything, just genuine, heartfelt conversations about one of my favorite art forms- stand up comedy. Great format! We get to see the process of how comedians work out material. Must listen for any comedy fans!
Easy listening
Makes my commute go so much faster.
All things Birbigs
I love Mike Birbiglia and anything he puts out. I have listened to this show since it started. He had such thoughtful questions for guests and has introduced me to such interesting comics like Zarna Garg. I was so excited he had Chris Gethard on the show as he is another one of my faves. Thanks for all your do!
Thanks Elon!
As a recent Twitter exile/ Free Bird I found myself with some time on my hands and in need of some cruelty-free talk and laughter. I was thrilled to find Mike Birbiglia's Working it Out podcast--it is the perfect antidote to the angst and dark political times we find ourselves in. In addition to comedy analysis and great conversation, the final segment featuring an organization to consider supporting is brilliant!
Mike is a good guy
I have enjoyed all of his stuff out there and comedy/storytelling style. Even though on the episode today they talked about not enjoying the labels they are given I like the clean comic element! I’m bad at reviews but podcasters ask so…😊👍🏼
LISTEN
Every episode is unique, heartfelt, and poignant. My favorite podcast ever!! A must for artists, creatives, actors, writers, or anyone that just wants a good laugh.
One of my faves
I didn’t expect to enjoy this podcast as much as I do. Normally I’m not into talking/interview stuff. That said, I DO love this podcast and the talking and the interviews! Always good food for thought, stuff to make you laugh (and sometimes cry). Great listen!
Great podcast, I listen every day on my walk with my dogs
The podcast is fantastic! I don’t know why it took me so long to start listening after my sister recommended it, but once I did I haven’t stopped. it’s fantastic! To me, the theme song is more Chris Isaak then Bruce Springsteen, and it’s great. My favorite episodes, so far, and to be fair I have not been listening in order , include Michael J Fox, Malcolm Gladwell, and Iliza Shlesinger.I listen every morning on my walk with the dogs I walk in the state lands and it’s beautiful, it’s my favorite part of the day and I thought nothing could make it better… but I was wrong your podcast makes it even better. I love it!!
Brilliant Help for Orators/Preachers
I make my living as a Christian preacher and trainer of preachers. This is the podcast I recommend most. Birbiglia’s insights into language, the craft of oration, constructing narratives, and effective communication are incredibly useful. His questions and discussions with other thoughtful comedians also elicit invaluable perspectives. I mean, he’s also hilarious and so the podcast is just fun. But nearly every episode has at least one little jewel of a comment or interaction with his guests that will help those of us who speak out loud in public. I listen to every episode and highly recommend this to all. If more preachers were as thoughtful about being interesting or funny as Birbiglia is, or had his work ethic on this front, maybe church would have a better reputation? Keep doing it. Thank you.
Great perspective
Mike gives great perspective to comedy with his guests. Makes me laugh and makes me think.
Birbigs! Love the show
Love the podcast. Loved the show in Berkeley. Congrats on another Broadway show! The whole family enjoys a bit o’ Birbigs.
Amazing
I love Mike’s interviews! So funny, heart-felt, and showcases a wide variety of comedians.
Love!
Mike is one of my favorite comedians by far. And favorite Twitter personalities - though I know it’s opposite personality of his stand up (I feel the same way, buddy). We’ve seen him many times - the most recent in CT while in the midst of creating The Old Man and The Pool and in the midst of being a fan of this podcast so that was interesting. I love hearing about the process and open discussions w/ other comedians and folks in the industry. Sometimes they’re not as laugh out loud and they’re more learning about each other but whatever it is, if there’s a new ep (or even a repeat), I put it at the top of my list cuz he’s that good, it’s that enjoyable and it just makes me happy.
Contemplatives
One of the absolute best podcasts ever. A must for any listener. I have been a fan from the beginning of his stand up and now the podcasts are a daily ritual!
I adore this podcast
I was already a big fan of Mike Birbiglia and have been inspired by him as a comic myself but this takes it to a whole new level. Hearing the evolution of Mike’s material and the ideas of other comedians just makes me so happy. This is a pod for comedy nerds, by a comedy nerd. Birbigs just gets it! Particularly love the episode with J. Hope Stein since she’s hilarious, talented, and one of the best poets ever and the dynamic between Mike and Jen is wonderful. Thanks for all of the comfort, intrigue, and laughter Mike!!
Recommend!
Can’t say no. I think he really has adapted his humor to the podcast. I have enjoyed all episodes. My friend recommended Mike years ago. Glad I’m on board.
Can Jenn be my new best friend?
This podcast is always top of my list. I especially loved this recent episode with the poet J and spouse of the host. I work with my spouse so I loved hearing their creative process. I find all the best comedians and now poets from this pod. As I listen I spend my time thinking of my own answers to the speed round questions. I love that Jenn ponders these as well. My superpower is also my sense of smell yet I don’t have any particular smell memory. I am Often accused of making up smells. “It’s in your head.” Which is both true since it is in my head where my nose sits, but also how scary. Are they saying I have a brain tumor? Just let me have my smells. You will enjoy this podcast and you will find your own fantasy best friends here too. Mike brings out such wonderful conversations from this his guests. It’s such a helpful series for creatives.
a great listen, + a guide on what to watch
I have been listening to working it out for about a year now. Not only do I love the premise of peeling the curtain back on the comedic process, but Mike Birbiglia also has great taste. The only trouble is, I want to watch something by almost every guest. Through the show, I have found Hanna Gatsby (I know, where have I been), just started watching “Hacks” (meta in itself), “Russian Doll,” and more. The show itself can be so a therapeutic listen, especially during the pandemic era episodes. Birbiglia brings a lot of compassion to his guests and his audience. I am a comedy fan (comedy nerd adjacent) who is interested in process. I love hearing comics hang out and help each other write jokes!
Favorite episode: Antonoff
Funny and sometimes…oof! I didn’t know what I was looking for when I came here, but the one with Jack Antonoff had “it”.
Love it
Started listening recently and binged on a plane yesterday while feeling very gross. The jo Firestone ep had me cackling
