RSS Feed President Trump spent more than an hour on the international stage in Davos at the World Economic Forum to brag about American strength and throw shade at “stupid” “weak” European countries. While the big headline is that Trump acknowledged for the first time America will NOT use force to acquire Greenland, the other major headline was that “people will SOON be prosecuted for what they did” in what Trump calls the “rigged” 2020 election.

Speaker 2: It is Wednesday, January twenty first, and wowser, the headlines are going to tell you that Trump's big, much anticipated speech at the World Economic Forum. They'll tell you that the headline was that he said we will not attack Greenland. However, there is plenty more in there that is worth you hearing. With that, Welcome to this episode of Amy and TJ and Romes. We are very very careful on our podcast. We do not lean left, we don't lean right. We don't get in the midst of criticizing one side or another, one president or another, one policy or another. But you have to look at this objectively, and we have to state that as an American watching and hearing a lot of what we saw today, it's difficult to be proud of what our representative did for the United States today.

Speaker 3: Yes, and I appreciate how you just set that up, because that is how we try to operate. And yet, at the same time, as we make our effort to continue to be objective observers of what we're seeing, we have to call things as they are, and the bragging that was going on and the insulting that was going on have to be noted. Because both of them were extreme and at sometimes uncomfortable and difficult to listen to.

Speaker 2: And sometimes not well thought out, and sometimes something you might hear on a playground somewhere in the United States. Those are just we have to at some point be able to have this conversation roped without and just call it for what it is and what we see. And this was not a matter of a policy. We can get into all that, but for folks, what we're talking about. Yes, he talked about Greenland, but he talked about he's looking in the face of these people that he's insulting, calling them enemies, insulting other world leaders by saying, yeah, I made I bent you to my will. There was a level of arrogance, robes and something that as anybody travels around the world and see how oftentimes people view Americans, that is what we're talking about.

Speaker 2: Offensive, offensive, So and again it's you know what robes are always we're always so careful because given the political climate that we're in, it it's hard to just call it for what you see, and we're not trying to insult this man. And but Robes, there are things and times that we talked about this earlier. Right, if you if surrounded by people who telling you how great you are, you're probably surrounded by enemies. You should have somebody around that loves you enough to tell you that you're screwing up. And I can't believe that there's no one saying to him that this wasn't a good display, this isn't a good look book for the United States. And it's it's mean, it's exulting, it's rude.

Speaker 3: He essentially called European leaders to their face stupid and weak. Stupid and weak. Those were the resounding themes. Y'all are idiots, we're smart, y'all are weak, we're strong. Be like us, don't be who you are because we're better than you.

Speaker 2: And folks, she's not exaggerating anything. We're gonna give you some of the verbatim, just to let you hear it for yourself here. But yes, the headline and a lot of this folks were anticipating Robes of course, because of what has been going on with Greenland. He's in this World Economic Forum with a lot of leaders, a lot of them from Europe who oppose what he's doing, and so a lot of people wondered how he was going to address it. Well, the headline is he did say he will not use force to take Greenland. So that is the big headline. We'll get into some more of what he said around that, but that was the headline that came out. But Roes he kind of set the tone. I think it was in sixty seconds. He used Biden's name when he started his speech, and it kind of got a chuckle, but it kind of set the tone. At the top, he said he was surrounded in the room by friends and a few enemies. Hey, they probably all looked around at each other. He's talking about me, talking about who you're talking about.

Speaker 3: I mean, hasn't he made a few enemies out of friends? I mean you could argue that as well. And yes, he continued on in classic Trump fashion with superlatives and bragging, and he talked about how great the US is doing. He said, we had the fastest economic turnaround in US history, and we've had growth like no country has seen before.

But yeah, he talked about our how we're doing economically the United States, and said how quickly the economic turnaround happened. And here is an exact quote from him. My biggest surprise is that I thought it would have taken longer. It's been a year. I thought it would take a year and one month.

Speaker 2: Yes, So we heard Biden's name within really right off the top, and then we heard it plenty of time, called him sleepy Joe at some point as well. But I guess that's standard stuff now Robes. This was uncomfortable because we are as a country looking other countries in the face and as a whole insulting them because he is our spokesperson, he is our leader, he is the representator of the United States. It felt like we were all up there giving everybody in the middle finger.

That's tough, mano that you know what, if you are not American, imagine someone saying that to Americans coming in from another country. Immediately you would feel defensive, your chest would tighten. I don't know who you are, I don't care who you are. That is offensive completely. Then he goes on and goes even further and says Europe is not heading in the right direction.

I mean he might think that, but in the room, looking at the leaders of those countries, he's insulting them and telling them you ain't nothing without us.

Remember that mark the next time you make your statements referring to the Canadian Prime minister. Whoa I mean, is that funny?

Speaker 2: This was a weird, like, we need credit for that, he said. He told Benjamin Yaho, stopped taking credit for the the defense Dome. What is it called the gold the Golden Dome? I think, stop taking credit for it. That's our technology. He's and he's saying this in a very serious manner in front of all these folks. I told him to stop publicly saying that's y'all's thing. We want credit for the technology.

Whatever you say about me reflect bounces off of me and heads back at you. I mean, it really had that tone, a schoolyard tone of I'm the best and you're the worst, and we're the strongest and you're the weakest.

Speaker 2: And there might be some applauding that. There might be some of his supporters who think, this is what we should look like. This is what strength looks like, this is what power, This is what leadership. Maybe, and that's more power to you. It's just difficult when you you just said, like the kid's chance or something. Whatever you say, bounce off your stick, yeah, bounce off or whatever. But that if your leader is that way or can be compared in any way in his speech to something like that. That was the tone in a lot of ways, and it did feel like felt insulting.

Speaker 3: Look, this speech wasn't smart or confident. It was it was indulgent and cocky. And you know, and maybe people like you said, maybe people applause that maybe they want more of that. Oh, I think it probably was. I think he thinks that that is a sign of strength. I think he thinks that he needs to take credit for everything or he won't get any of it, and so he needs to tell everyone else how great he is because he's not hearing it enough. Maybe the windmill thing really threw me where he went off.

Speaker 3: It seemed like he was on prompter and that this was prepared. And look, anyone who's traveled to Europe knows Europe is scattered with windmills. That's part of how they get their energy. And he just went off about how inefficient it is, and he went.

Speaker 3: He literally said, stupid people buy them. And everywhere you see a windmill, a stupid person bought it because their energy efficiency went down. They're losing money, so they are morons. And he pointed out how smart China was to sell the windmills, but how stupid everyone was for buying them.

Speaker 2: He said that China is making a fortune on windmills, and quote, they're shocked people continue to buy those things. Stupid people buy them. That was a direct insult at Europe.

Speaker 2: Oh goodness, Okay, but the big thing everybody was waiting to hear about was Greenland, of course, and he made kind of a big deal about it, kind of building it up and teeing it up.

Speaker 2: We never asked for anything, and we never got anything. We probably won't get anything unless I decide to use excessive strength and force.

Speaker 2: Now everyone is saying, good, he's paused there for a moment and delivered that. That was the line people were waiting to hear. And he seems to have said robes clearly, he is not going to use the military to try to get his way in Greenland.

Speaker 3: Look, and that is a relief. There was a concern. He certainly made it seem as though it was an option. He absolutely said it was. But he went on too then insult Greenland. After he said he respect He's interestingly, he started out saying that he respected Greenland and he respected Denmark, and then he went on to completely insult them. This is what he said about Greenland. Now, what I'm asking for is a piece of ice, cold and poorly located. It's a very small ask compared to what we have given them for many, many decades. And by the way, how is Greenland poorly located? If its location is exactly the reason why logistically and strategically you want to own Greenland. He's saying it's poorly located because it's cold.

Speaker 3: I'm super confused because to me, the location is why we want it. But yeah, it's just a piece of ice. He said that several times. If you live in Greenland, if you are in Denmark, that is insulting to where you're from, completely insulting.

Speaker 2: Yeah, so how is this going to go now? He said that if he's not going to do it by force, he said, they have a choice. You can say yes and will be very appreciative, or you can say no and we will remember.

Speaker 2: It is and you don't know when it's coming, and we will remember. So he has asked that they immediately entered negotiations to discuss the US acquiring Greenland. He is supposed to have some meetings on the sideline. I think he's coming back to Ma though, but he supposed to have some meetings while he is there. He went off countless times about NATO, saying NATO wouldn't be there if it wasn't for him. He's the one that saved it. But he also wrote, very boyant, NATO members have the right to defend their own territory. He is suggesting that we are the NATO member, Greenland is our territory. He's making the argument that this is necessary for us to defend the homeland and.

And then he went on and when I mentioned Denmark, he basically said, you know, we fought for Denmark in World War Two and we gave them, We allowed them to take Greenland. So he said, how stupid we were to give it back, But how ungrateful are they now. But perhaps one of the most jaw dropping lines he delivered was when he again was referencing World War Two, would you like to deliver the line.

Speaker 2: Well, he's trying to make the point here about how much the US has saved the world over the years, including World War Two. Quote, without us, all of you would be speaking German and a little Japanese perhaps. Whoo, a room full of world leaders telling them you all owe us, you all are only here. You only have your country, your economies, your roles, your leadership, everything is because of us, and we haven't at this point. You just wrapped not too long ago before this recording rope, so I haven't seen too much. We haven't seen too much reaction a world reaction to what he said, but you can only imagine. Meanwhile, NATO, more on that said, they continue to treat the US unfairly and they give us nothing in return. But stay here, folks. He wasn't done yet. He made another head scratching headline, and we're not sure if it's breaking news or not having to do with the twenty twenty election. But also of note, the President mispronounced and mixed up a few words in his speech, and it's worth paying attention to stay here.

But yes, he's talking about everything we've been seeing in Minneapolis and Minnesota, not just the ice confrontations on the streets, but also the fraud that's been taking place, the frauds scheme. So to that point, he mentioned the Minneapolis fraud money was quote stolen by Somalian bandits. They turn out to have higher IQs than we thought. We say, these are low IQ people. How did they get into Minnesota and steal all this money?

Speaker 3: Jesus Christ I always say these are low IQ people talking about all of Somalia, and he made a point to say they're not even a country. They have no government, they have no leader, they have no nothing. And so he was very intensid that Representative Ilhan Omar, who is from Somalia, would have the audacity to have any opinion about how we should run our government as an elected official. He finds that offensive.

And look, some of this stuff is that the IQ thing, that's a little much and this was a little much. Can't mass import foreign cultures which have failed to ever build a successful society of their own. That's that's Those are just direct attacks on cultures, on people, on less fortunate people in some in some Yeah, that's that's hard robes. You want to stay in Paris, You want to give everybody a right to their opinion and whatnot. But he's he's getting on a world stage as our number one American telling the world that we hate people.

And I think you make you make a point that it's one thing to say some of these things on American soil, it's another thing to go across the pond and air our country's dirty laundry, because it makes everybody look awful. I mean, he went into the weeds of American politics and was just airing it out and airing out all his grievances in front of the world.

Speaker 3: This Iceland thing that was crazy. So he kept conflating Iceland for Greenland. He meant to say Greenland, but he kept saying Iceland, and maybe I kind of I think it's kind of funny. He kept calling it, you know, just a piece of ice. I can't even call it Land. It's just a piece of ice. I think he had that in his head as he was insulting Greenland. He ended up calling it Iceland several times, not just once, maybe five times.

Speaker 3: Other thing I see. We both zeroed in on is he was really excited about that. It happened in June. Correct. The NATO Secretary General joked and said, Daddy sometimes has to use strong language when he was trying to explain away Trump using expletives, I believe at the last NATO meeting.

Speaker 3: He referenced it. He said, they called me daddy last time. Very smart man said he's our daddy. He liked that, which was so odd.

Speaker 2: It was an odd day, it was an odd speech. It was an odd night really for him. We didn't even mention. Yes, he was three hours late in landing because I had an issue with the plane. Had a minor electrical issue, so they turned it around and so that delayed them by three hours getting there. But he the speech still happened on time.

Speaker 2: He looked exhausted when he got off the plane. He was walking slowly. He was a different energy. Yeah, and I think robes he was up there hour plus and the speech. I think he was propping himself up, holding himself up on that podium. Yeah, dude looks hired.

Speaker 3: He entered as he started insulting people. He got his energy level went up. He started off very monotone. I thought, oh, no, where is this going. But then as he started like feeling his own uh strength is he was just ripping off superlatives and ripping world leaders, he somehow got a little more energy. But I just want to point out, because yes, we're talking about his rhetoric and what he was doing and saying. I thought it was pretty remarkable. The only bit of reaction I saw was California Governor Knew him. He said, it doesn't whatever you about to say, it doesn't count exactly. But this but tell me, after what we just said and this episode we've just given about what we saw and what we heard, this is what Governor Knew some said about Trump's speech. I thought it was remarkably boring. Honestly, I was disappointed. It was not boring. I'm sorry. You can call it a lot of things, but that's the point.

But yes, the headline and a lot of this folks were anticipating Robes of course, because of what has been going on with Greenland. He's in this World Economic Forum with a lot of leaders, a lot of them from Europe who oppose what he's doing, and so a lot of people wondered how he was going to address it. Well, the headline is he did say he will not use force to take Greenland. So that is the big headline. We'll get into some more of what he said around that, but that was the headline that came out. But Roes he kind of set the tone. I think it was in sixty seconds. He used Biden's name when he started his speech, and it kind of got a chuckle, but it kind of set the tone. At the top, he said he was surrounded in the room by friends and a few enemies. Hey, they probably all looked around at each other. He's talking about me, talking about who you're talking about.

And yes, he continued on in classic Trump fashion with superlatives and bragging, and he talked about how great the US is doing. That was the tone in a lot of ways, and it did feel like felt insulting.

Maybe the windmill thing really threw me where he went off.

After he said he respect He's interestingly, he started out saying that he respected Greenland and he respected Denmark, and then he went on to completely insult them. This is what he said about Greenland. Now, what I'm asking for is a piece of ice, cold and poorly located. It's a very small ask compared to what we have given them for many, many decades. And by the way, how is Greenland poorly located? If its location is exactly the reason why logistically and strategically you want to own Greenland. He's saying it's poorly located because it's cold.

He went off countless times about NATO, saying NATO wouldn't be there if it wasn't for him. He's the one that saved it. But he also wrote, very boyant, NATO members have the right to defend their own territory. He is suggesting that we are the NATO member, Greenland is our territory. He's making the argument that this is necessary for us to defend the homeland and.

And then he went on and when I mentioned Denmark, he basically said, you know, we fought for Denmark in World War Two and we gave them, We allowed them to take Greenland. So he said, how stupid we were to give it back, But how ungrateful are they now. But perhaps one of the most jaw dropping lines he delivered was when he again was referencing World War Two, would you like to deliver the line.

Quote, without us, all of you would be speaking German and a little Japanese perhaps. Whoo, a room full of world leaders telling them you all owe us, you all are only here. You just wrapped not too long ago before this recording rope, so I haven't seen too much. We haven't seen too much reaction a world reaction to what he said, but you can only imagine. Meanwhile, NATO, more on that said, they continue to treat the US unfairly and they give us nothing in return. But stay here, folks. He wasn't done yet. He made another head scratching headline, and we're not sure if it's breaking news or not having to do with the twenty twenty election. But also of note, the President mispronounced and mixed up a few words in his speech, and it's worth paying attention to stay here.

We've talked about Canada, We've talked about France, Denmark, Greenland, pretty much all of NATO calling well, pretty much every European leader who has a windmill stupid. We'll get into what he said about Somali's and Somalia, because that was you know, maybe we should start there, because that was just horrific. Babe. We've heard we've heard him say so many things about Somalia, about ilhan Omar, but today's seemed like especially horrific.

But yes, he's talking about everything we've been seeing in Minneapolis and Minnesota, not just the ice confrontations on the streets, but also the fraud that's been taking place, the frauds scheme. So to that point, he mentioned the Minneapolis fraud money was quote stolen by Somalian bandits. They turn out to have higher IQs than we thought. We say, these are low IQ people. How did they get into Minnesota and steal all this money?

They have no government, they have no leader, they have no nothing. And so he was very intensid that Representative Ilhan Omar, who is from Somalia, would have the audacity to have any opinion about how we should run our government as an elected official. He finds that offensive.

And look, some of this stuff is that the IQ thing, that's a little much and this was a little much. You want to stay in Paris, You want to give everybody a right to their opinion and whatnot. But he's he's getting on a world stage as our number one American telling the world that we hate people.

But I just want to point out, because yes, we're talking about his rhetoric and what he was doing and saying. I thought it was pretty remarkable. The only bit of reaction I saw was California Governor Knew him. He said, it doesn't whatever you about to say, it doesn't count exactly. But this but tell me, after what we just said and this episode we've just given about what we saw and what we heard, this is what Governor Knew some said about Trump's speech. I thought it was remarkably boring. Honestly, I was disappointed. It was not boring. I'm sorry. You can call it a lot of things, but that's the point.
