Trump Threatens To “Bomb The Sh*t” Out Of U.S. Ally

Trump Threatens To “Bomb The Sh*t” Out Of U.S. Ally

As our 60 day ceasefire with Iran officially expires today, President Trump is lashing out at our decades long ally, Oman. While Oman continues to help mediate negotiations between Iran and the U.S., it’s also discussed partnering with Iran to charge fees for ships to pass through the Strait of Hormuz. As you might imagine, that has angered Trump to the point of threatening Oman to stay out of the way…. or else. This sets up another possible “T.A.C.O. Tuesday” scenario, where online detractors continue to point out every time “Trump Always Chickens Out” on a threat he made, on Tuesday.

00:00:02
Speaker 1: Hey, folks, it is Monday, August seventeenth. Then President Trump just threatened to bomb in other country and with that, welcome to this episode of Amy and TJ. The headlines are everywhere the President has just threatened me. When you saw it, what did you think?

00:00:18
Speaker 2: Well, I just started, Yes, I was going to say, and not just any ally, a decades long strategic ally that we have needed and most likely will continue to need to be able to, yes.

00:00:34
Speaker 1: Kind of need them maneuver.

00:00:37
Speaker 2: Around the world and specifically in the Middle East. So yes, I thought it was rash. I thought it was posturing, and I thought, dude, stop threatening people countries when you know you actually aren't going to follow through. Because actually, if he did what he says he's going to do, all out war would break out.

00:01:01
Speaker 1: You're not worried at all about him following through on this, I am not. The rest of the world might not be either, or robes we do. Is the point to get us all to sit up to pay attention to say, was this madman theory? They say that you they just be as outlandish as possible to people think you're such a loose cannon. They don't know what you'll do. So they'll just fall in line. Is this just how could this possibly robes be an effective strategy right now?

00:01:33
Speaker 3: I don't know.

00:01:34
Speaker 2: If he has been reminded of the childhood classic tale the Boy who Cried Wolf. But truly, when you say you're going to do something and you repeatedly don't follow through on what you say you're going to do, and you make up some excuse as to why you didn't actually do what you said you were going to do, and you've done this as in like seven times at least in the recent past, his ability to be effective is diminished, if not completely gone at this point. I think any parent knows you can't tell your kid if you do this, here's your punishment. And when they do this, if you don't give them the punishment, you basically have lost all authority and credibility period with your child.

00:02:20
Speaker 3: The same is true with world leaders.

00:02:24
Speaker 1: So the President gave a profanity laced response when asked a question by Fox News in a phone interview. We don't have the audio of this, but in a phone interview, and then it was reported and it went everywhere that the President is now threatening the US partner of Oman and Rhobes, and I say, profanity laced. It didn't necessarily sound very presidential and diplomatic, But I guess this is how the President rolls in this latest threat.

00:02:53
Speaker 2: Yes, and this is according to a Fox News reporter a phone interview with Trey Yinst. He says, the President said, quote, if oman gets in the way, we'll bomb this shit out of them.

00:03:05
Speaker 3: End quote.

00:03:07
Speaker 1: That is your president. Now, folks took that initially and thought, what the actual hell, And folks reserved Robes for a little lost in translation, for a little context, for a little maybe we didn't hear the whole conversation right, so maybe a little space was left for some explanation. So of course, when Trey Yinst reports this at Fox News, every other news out that goes crazy starts calling the White House trying to get an answer. Didn't have to wait too long, Robes to get some kind of a follow up, and we got it from the man himself. President Trump explained what he meant when he said this, Robes and cleared this up for us in a couple of comments he made at the White House.

00:03:54
Speaker 2: Oh yeah, he said, I don't think they behaved very well, but we'd handle them very easily, just like we do other things.

00:04:02
Speaker 1: Oh okay, Okay, that doesn't sound like he was really backing away, but he got to speak again. He followed up and he said something else about it. Surely he gave it proper context and cleared this whole thing up.

00:04:11
Speaker 2: So then next he said, Oman will behave just like everybody else, or will have to blow them up.

00:04:17
Speaker 1: Okay, so he said it twice.

00:04:19
Speaker 2: Actually that would be three times really if you considered the other one a An, I mean it might be. I wouldn't even say it was veiled, but it was a little bit vague perhaps, but I think everyone knew what he was referring to and who he was referring to.

00:04:33
Speaker 1: Am I missing one from this year? A Ron Cuba is the one, right, isn't that the one he's threatened? Okay, so we got Iran in Venezuela this year, right, Cuba and now Oman are on the lists of possibilities.

00:04:48
Speaker 3: He's also a threatened Greenland. He's also threatened.

00:04:51
Speaker 2: He's made some threats about acquisitions Canada. He's made lots of tariff threats that he then pulls back. I mean, just been up down all around. It's hard to know where he stands. From one day to the next.

00:05:08
Speaker 1: And so this is why this one is a little different and why this possibly matters, and why people are possibly paying attention a little more because today, Robes is a significant day. Yes, the clock just ran out. What does that mean now?

00:05:20
Speaker 2: We don't know, correct, So yes, that sixty day ceasefire agreement, the memorandum of understanding as it was referred to, is officially over as of today. So yes, there are a lot of questions what happens next? And look, the country of Oman has been a mediating partner and this has been a historic role for the country of Oman. They have stood and they have always maintained that they are neutral between Iran and the United States. However, Oman has been working with Iran reportedly on joining in on this notion of controlling the strait or at least imposing a fee on ships that pass through the state, because Oman also shares a border along the strait, and that is what has angered the president.

00:06:11
Speaker 1: He doesn't like the idea Robes and this would be damning if a deal is made to open the strait of her moves that the US was kept out of. This is the thing that everybody listening. It's even if you're not following that closely. You know, something of the President has repeatedly said, is we control the strait of her moves a blockade is in place, he says, we are in charge of that thing. Iran has no control. We control it. Iran thinks very differently. And the reality is Iran has been able to choke off, to really squeeze this all important waterway since this war started. That's just the fact of the matter.

00:06:55
Speaker 2: Twenty percent, if not a little more, of the world's oil reserves. Basically, any sort of like liquid fuel passes through the Strait of Hormuz and has so for for many, many years. And so to cut it off when we all see our gas prices going up, our plane tickets going up, pretty much anything that requires fuel going up.

00:07:18
Speaker 1: Yeah, so robes. Midterms are coming up. The President has been very much focused on gas prices. No, it doesn't look good. He hates to admit that the war is having an impact. We all know it is. Folks go to the voting booth and they still vote with their frickin' wallets.

00:07:35
Speaker 3: It's the economy, stupid.

00:07:36
Speaker 1: It's it they just do. This is a problem. So the President would like to get the Straight reopened, get oil flowing, and we all see, wow, prices are dropping. Needs that that happen. It needs that to happen pretty soon. So Romes, what if the Strait gets reopened and Iran and Oman all the ones responsible for getting oil flowing again, and they are the one that are going to be responsible, they could take credit for gas prices going down in the United States. Yes, President cannot let that happen.

00:08:06
Speaker 2: But the problem is too with the narrative, which I think most people do honestly understand, is even if say President Trump can somehow take credit for reopening the Straight of Hooe moves before the midterm elections, let's let's not forget the whole reason why gas prices went up in the first place was because the President decided to bomb, in conjunction with Israel, the heck out of Iran.

00:08:31
Speaker 1: But Iran is going to have a nuclear weapon in like forty five minutes.

00:08:34
Speaker 3: To see the receipts on that.

00:08:36
Speaker 1: But the pot the administration, they told us you can trust what your government, don't you, but please sure?

00:08:42
Speaker 3: Yes?

00:08:42
Speaker 2: So I do find it there is a large bit of irony there that he's the one who wants to bring gas prices down.

00:08:49
Speaker 3: Yes, he's the one who brought gas prices up.

00:08:51
Speaker 1: But he had to because Iran had the nuclear weapon that they were ready to use. There was a whole countdown clock. It was aiming, It was aimed towards the United State. It was coming. So al right, I thought, here took him out.

00:09:01
Speaker 2: I thought he like absolutely rendered them helpless the year before with Operation whatever that was Midnight Fury.

00:09:08
Speaker 1: This is when they had in storage we didn't know about. This is maddening.

00:09:13
Speaker 3: So yesly you're playing devils out of it.

00:09:15
Speaker 2: Obviously you're dripping in sarcasm, just in case someone didn't know.

00:09:19
Speaker 1: I wasn't even playing devil's advocate.

00:09:20
Speaker 2: That well, yes, I mean, well if I can see your face, and you were smiling the entire time, but no one else can see your face.

00:09:27
Speaker 1: So he cannot let that happen. So now it's a matter of who's going to be able to take credit. How is Iran going to make an announcement to the world that we have reached a deal with another country to open the street and the US had nothing to do with this.

00:09:42
Speaker 2: And Iran has had a blast releasing statements that fly in the face of what the United States has been saying all along, from negotiations, et cetera. They've been a little snarky, they've been a little cheeky, and they've been incredibly effective using Twitter or ex excuse me along the way.

00:09:56
Speaker 1: I don't know what pr firm they use. Look, I know this is a dangerous and a deadly regime, we understand, but robes you have to give to give some notice to just how effective responsive. And yes, robes, and they communicate in the language that the world can understand, almost when it comes to making fun of the president with pointing out sometimes the obvious ross. So yeah, they're they're eating all this up. Can you imagine opening the straight They'll send the message to the United States, You're welcome, enjoy the enjoy your labor.

00:10:37
Speaker 2: H I have no doubt it will be accompanied by some sort of middle finger statement that is intended specifically to harm President Trump as much as possible.

00:10:47
Speaker 3: Without a doubt.

00:10:49
Speaker 2: But look, the President has also tried to play a new game, the long game, saying he's in no hurry. Even though recalled, he did tell the American public that this should be over within six weeks.

00:10:59
Speaker 3: We are now at six months.

00:11:02
Speaker 1: Wow, that's yeah. I saw that and still couldn't believe it when you just said it. Oh crap, it ain't long before we're gonna be talking about we've been.

00:11:12
Speaker 3: At war for a year, and that's what he wants to avoid.

00:11:16
Speaker 2: So for him to tell Iran, I can take I can do this all year, I can do this all day, I got nothing but time. Iran is very aware that the midterm elections are absolutely weighing on the president and weighing on the timeline, and certainly he is feeling increased pressure. So they're playing off of that.

00:11:33
Speaker 1: So Aman is important here because it's on the Oh my goodness, I don't know why I just freaked on the geography, but south coast on the south coast of the Strait. Iran is on the north coast of the Strait, so there's a very narrow The strait gets very narrow in this waterway robes twenty four miles, they say it it's most narrow point. But Iran has very much ability. It has a lot of coastline there. It strategically came and control the strait. So Amana's on one side, Arona's on the other. They get together and say this is our plan. We're going to find a route for ships to come in and go out, and we're going to handle it charge whatever. I don't know how that's going to work, but ops, that's the plan that they are working with.

00:12:15
Speaker 2: Five to seven percent of whatever the cargoes currency or their value is. That's a pretty significant amount of money that they're now going to be allegedly going to be able to exact these fines on ships passing through, which is going to absolutely not be acceptable by the United States.

00:12:35
Speaker 1: So where do we go from here? Well, it's the president going to see through on this threat. The answer is a resounding probably not. Stay here. We'll give you a reminder and why some people are comforted that the President made this threat on a Monday, because tuesdays right around the corner. We will explain that also the President had a another idea for dealing with the straight o hor moves. Did you hear he now wants to make it a part of the United States. Stay here, all right? We continue here on Amy and TJ. On this Monday. Monday is threatday for the president. So Tuesday is gonna be what.

00:13:27
Speaker 3: Roads Taco Tuesday? As in Trump always chickens out.

00:13:32
Speaker 2: We have seen Taco Tuesday trending nearly every Tuesday. I mean, it has been pretty remarkable how often. Whether he's aware of this or not, it seems like he's pretty savvy when it comes to social media and trends, and I would think he has to know that Taco Tuesday Trump Taco Tuesday trends often on X and significantly and for a really long time, and on really big issues where he's made huge threats, Trump always chickens out. It's remarkable that he continues to make threats, serious threats, threats of widespread destruction, of wiping countries off the map on Mondays, sometimes Sundays, and then backs down on Tuesday.

00:14:19
Speaker 1: Why this is a It is a phenomenon at this point. So we'll see what happens tomorrow on Tuesday. But yes, I guess the most glaring example had to do with the people. Remember that when I will, an entire civilization will die tomorrow if Iran doesn't blank blank blank blank, And Iran did in blank blank blank blank, and nothing happened.

00:14:41
Speaker 2: And he usually always his fallback, his safety is almost always to say that other countries, other leaders, or Iranian leadership themselves, who shall not be named, have all begged him to back down, and have begged for more time, and have begged for grace, and he always honors it because he is just that kind of guy.

00:15:04
Speaker 1: So we'll see what happens tomorrow. But no, there is no expectation. If you are seeing the headlines, there's no expectation that Oman is under any immediate threat from the United States right now how he wants, we just there is no anticipation. But ropes. The other thing that turned heads a couple of days ago. What are we supposed to do with that? This is the other idea the president has for how he can get the straight reopened is just take it. I suppose the president has Let's see where is he threatened? The Canada one wasn't so serious the threaten the president threatened at one point he wanted to make Canada fifty.

00:15:40
Speaker 3: He first stayed Greenland.

00:15:42
Speaker 2: He was on that for a while, the thread in Greenland Greenland campaign.

00:15:47
Speaker 1: So maybe a couple of territories to take over Venezuela.

00:15:51
Speaker 2: Did we thought about that yet? Might that might be better if they just were a part of the United States. I feel like he's, he's, he's suggested plenty of places we could just pick up.

00:16:01
Speaker 3: But now this is the latest. This is a quote directly.

00:16:04
Speaker 2: From him from President Trump. Pretty soon, I will be declaring the horror MoU straight a territory of the United States. First of all, can the president of the United States, without any backing from Congress declare a body of land or a body of water a territory of the United States.

00:16:29
Speaker 1: I was surprised you were going to make it through the whole.

00:16:30
Speaker 3: Question without completely laughing.

00:16:34
Speaker 1: This was a rhetorical question.

00:16:35
Speaker 3: Yes, obviously you know this.

00:16:37
Speaker 1: Just to say something like that now, in fairness, this is the only thing I will say. I don't know if you saw it. He said that in a speech, and I wonder if there was some context somewhere around it, if he said it something tongue in cheek or laughing. But that is those are the words. That's the only thing I is. Because he's saying I am going to do this. He didn't say I saw something previous where he said, well, maybe maybe we could do this. You know, the idea I like this was different.

00:17:02
Speaker 2: It seemed like a declaration and a statement of intent. I don't know you're right. I mean, if he had said it maybe with a little smile and a wink.

00:17:10
Speaker 3: Okay, we could take it another way.

00:17:12
Speaker 2: But look, it's the reason why I don't think we are necessarily is because he has made similar statements just like that about things that seemed just as preposterous, and he meant them, he said them seriously with a straight face.

00:17:25
Speaker 1: And here we are. We never thought we'd see his name in front of the Kennedy's Center, so we did not things you just don't think are possible that anybody would dare consider. So you do have to pay attention.

00:17:39
Speaker 2: When he says he's going to do something. We used to always say pay attention because oftentimes he follows through. So we shall see what happens. We'll see what Tuesday brings on this Monday threat Day. Could be perhaps a new hashtag there, but we have a new one from him for the country of Oman again, a.

00:17:59
Speaker 3: Dedicated did ally since.

00:18:01
Speaker 2: The nineteen forties, a strategic military ally of ours since the late nineteen forties. We'll see if this has done any damage to that relationship, and we will continue to follow what happens in the Middle East and here at home. Without everyone thanks for listening. I'm Amy Robach alongside TJ.

00:18:16
Speaker 3: Holmes. We'll talk soon.
