Trump Insults Another Woman: The Prime Minister Of Italy; Wait Until you Hear Her Response

She was the only European leader to attend President Trump’s Inauguration last year, but now Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni is speaking out and against Trump after a comment he made about her to a reporter. Trump claimed Meloni begged for a picture with him and said he did it because “he felt sorry for her.” Meloni quickly made a video refuting his claim, saying she’s astonished at his behavior, adding “neither I nor Italy ever beg.”

Speaker 1: Hey, folks, it is Friday, June nineteenth. President Trump has gone and picked another fight and started another war with Italy, in particular the Prime Minister with that. Welcome to this episode of Amy and TJ. This is just fun, right, This is just a fun story. It's not too serious, is it.

00:00:22
Speaker 2: It could be serious, and I do think that it has an impact on how Americans are viewed throughout the world.

00:00:29
Speaker 1: And love this doesn't help.

00:00:30
Speaker 2: It's the summer, it's Europe. How many Americans love to travel to Italy. It's a beautiful time of year. I don't know how well we'll all be received after this. Tit for Tad, because this really has stirred up a lot of feelings among Italians, and it's understandable.

00:00:46
Speaker 1: In short, he in some way insulted her. She has come back and flat out called him a liar. She did not use that word, but wrote she might as well have. So that's get into this G seven. All the pictures look great, didn't they, robes, all these world leaders getting together, shaking hands, making deals, talking about Iron, opening up the straight. Everything's going fine. So we see a lot of pictures, but there was a one picture in one video in particular Italian Prime Minister Georgia Mulroney. You see them talking. Don't think anything of it, right, Robes, It looks pretty innocuous. Some of the pictures just people mulling about. Well, Trump made some comments about the Italian Prime minister in some of those photos, Robes, and that's where we get started.

00:01:32
Speaker 3: Uh, that's right.

00:01:33
Speaker 2: So the video and pictures show President Trump and Prime Minister Maloney chatting it up, and then Trump decides to make a comment to a broadcaster.

00:01:45
Speaker 3: He thinks, I really, you know, this is classic Trump.

00:01:48
Speaker 2: I think he thinks he's being charming and well full of himself at the same time. But this is what he said. He said, she was probably happy I talked to her. She begged me to take a picture with her. I wouldn't have taken it, but I felt sorry for her.

00:02:04
Speaker 1: This is the Prime Minister of Italy.

00:02:07
Speaker 3: That is so insulting, That is so condescending.

00:02:11
Speaker 1: Maybe, even if it were true, you should mention that.

00:02:15
Speaker 2: Especially if it were true, it's just so small, Like I feel like I didn't believe him because that was so outrageous to even tell that to someone. It's almost as if he was making it up. On the fly because he wanted to maybe save face. She has made some comments, obviously, and there was a bit of a falling out.

00:02:36
Speaker 3: But I didn't realize this.

00:02:38
Speaker 2: You've put this up on our research and I have to admit I did not know this.

00:02:44
Speaker 3: Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Maloney.

00:02:47
Speaker 2: Was the only European leader to attend Trump's second inauguration last year.

00:02:55
Speaker 1: That says a lot, does it?

00:02:57
Speaker 2: Not?

00:02:57
Speaker 1: About the relations show, how he felt about her, what she felt about him. She traveled all the way, she showed up. She was the only one to do so, okay, that's a big deal. Fine, So where did this happen? Now? You just read his comment Robes and is our understanding. They haven't released the full unedited audio, but this is out there. But Robes, it seems the interviewer wasn't necessarily asking him a question that would prompt this the way they explained it. He just decided to start talking about this on his own.

00:03:24
Speaker 2: Yeah, And I think, look, we don't know what goes on in his mind, but the only explanation could be that he feels like he needs to prove something or be something because you saw that she went after him for his comments on the pope, and she didn't support him with the war with Iran, and so he feels like he's already on the defense, and so he decided to go on the offense.

00:03:48
Speaker 3: That's where That's what I think happened.

00:03:51
Speaker 1: Oh, I'm with you, but what you described. She didn't like his comments about the Pope. She didn't like the war in Iran Rope. That's the majority of the world, is it not.

00:04:01
Speaker 3: That's the majority of America.

00:04:03
Speaker 1: That's the majority. So why did he take issue with her? Look, we know how he is. Sometimes he feels slighted by people. He's getting people, he's endorsing the opponents of people in races that win against him at any point. This is just felt, you know what. It felt like a part of his revenge tour.

00:04:20
Speaker 3: Yes, because he really does.

00:04:21
Speaker 2: It seems operate under the mantra if you're not with me, you're against me, And it's kind of like the Ricky Bobby line.

00:04:28
Speaker 3: If you're not first, your last.

00:04:30
Speaker 2: He really it seems as though he has that mentality in how he approaches any relationship. And he doesn't care what country you're you're the prime minister off, he doesn't care what congressional district you're representing. He doesn't give a who what, how famous you are, who you are in the world. He's going to prove to you that if you're not with him, you're gonna regret it. He's gonna make it uncomfortable. And that is what he seemingly did. He wanted to slight her because he felt slighted by her, and.

00:05:01
Speaker 1: To do this so this gets out and robes. It didn't take long she responded, and robe. She responded in a way that you could tell she was pissed. Oh this was the Prime Minister of Italy who didn't get behind a desk and do some formal thing. Let me make a speech, or maybe I can write some comments or put out a statement. She did it like people do rapid fire with tabloid headlines. I know y'all see this. She's had the camera up, feel like doing a selfie video.

00:05:30
Speaker 2: It felt incredibly authentic, and yes, you could tell she was measured. But she was pissed one hundred percent. And look, she didn't hide behind a little social media post where she can write in all caps and do six exclamation points. She wanted I know, she wanted people to see her face. She wanted people to see her demeanor, and she wanted to own what she was saying. This wasn't something that she carefully thought out and crafted with all the superlative she wanted to put in there to try and prove her point. Now, she just looked straight into a camera. I looked like yeah, and iPhone set up right in front of her, and she just spoke to camera as directly and as succinctly, and I got to say as powerfully as a woman leader could.

00:06:07
Speaker 1: I was.

00:06:08
Speaker 3: I will tell you this. I was proud to be a woman.

00:06:12
Speaker 2: Listening to her, I thought to myself, you go girl, And I do think a lot of people if you take the time. Yes, she's speaking Italian, but a lot of stuff is out there with the translation. And I felt empowered by her. I love that she spoke up. I love that she spoke out quickly.

00:06:29
Speaker 1: Because she can, because she's the Prime Minister of Italy. Yeah. I didn't think about this. We were going to get into it later, but Rose, he has insulted women repeatedly, very powerful women in some cases reporters. But you just said, she spoke up for herself and so many people. I think Kitlyn Collins was the most recent one I remember. I know there's been one since then where he kind of got on to her in the Oval office. I think about the woman on the on the flight baby on Air Force one. Then he called quiet, Piggy, you.

00:07:01
Speaker 3: Remember that, I do. How could I forget?

00:07:03
Speaker 2: So?

00:07:03
Speaker 1: She didn't have the authority. She couldn't say no, mister president, you're not going to talk to me like that. This woman can and she did ropes. I did not put it together until you said it. She just spoke for every woman that's been insulted by President Trump or is felt insulted by President Trump in a way that they didn't have the ability to do.

00:07:24
Speaker 2: It. Sounds crazy, and maybe it's because it's been a long day, but I actually get emotional thinking about, like I want to give her a standing oh, because look again, this isn't about politics. This isn't about policy, This isn't about Republicans and Democrats. This is about a man who has disrespected pretty much anyone who disagrees with him or who has a different opinion from him, and he goes after people who are what he considers beneath him without any sort of consideration and women. Yes, he has gone after and targeted women, and he goes after their looks, and that to me is a big issue. And in this sense he went after her just I don't know if it was integrity or just her credibility, but to act as if some woman was begging him for a picture, that is insulting beyond and he has targeted women.

00:08:21
Speaker 1: He was complimenting himself, he was exerting his power. Look how this woman who is younger the head of a country that probably has better reputation around the world than ours currently. I don't know that for sure, but I'm saying he's looking at her in some way, so he needs to now exert his authority. He needs to sound he needs to look powerful in that. Who knows. But here's the other thing we want to suggest, ro what if it did happen like this, What if there is a possibly a lost in translation situation where she said, hey, let's grab a photo. Why are we here, and he's interpreting that as begging. I don't know. I'm trying to leave room for him not just flat out lying about the Prime Minister.

00:08:59
Speaker 2: Billy fine even say I do not believe that, But okay, say it happened like that. Why does he need to now tell a broadcaster, hey see her, she begged me to take a picture with her. I wouldn't have taken it, meaning I didn't want to. I didn't like this woman. The last little dig, the salt in the wound was I felt sorry for her, that pitying thing that is demeaning as hell to another world leader. You just said, I feel sorry for her because she was basically so goo goo gaga over me. That is well, honestly, I know he thinks he's embarrassing her. Frankly, he embarrassed himself.

00:09:36
Speaker 1: That's really small to insult this insult this lady. But we just mentioned her video. I'll tell you what she said in that video that Robes I thought was pretty impressive off the cuff, but it was. It was all in Italian, but we do have the transcript in the translation, and this is what she now said, Robes. And look, she could have gone in harder, and she could have used the word liar, stop short of name calling, but she flat out as saying he's lying.

00:10:03
Speaker 2: Oh yes, you can call it what you want. She called him a liar. Hear her exact words translated from Italian. Donald Trump's statements are completely made up. I am frankly astonished. I don't know why the President of the United States behaves like this towards his allies.

00:10:23
Speaker 3: It is not the first time.

00:10:25
Speaker 2: Moreover, I can only say it is disappointing that he does not show the same determination with the enemies of the West and of the United States, whose leaders he instead treats with far greater indulgence. There is one thing he should remember. Neither I nor Italy ever beg drop the damn Mike.

00:10:47
Speaker 1: I don't know what her popularity is in that country. That had to help.

00:10:51
Speaker 3: That was may Zin and it was.

00:10:55
Speaker 1: Necessary and it was perfectly toned, and it wasn't mean that she could have gotten angrier and seem personal. But she spoke in a way Ropes that we we're confused oftentimes because it's not the first time that someone has said Donald Trump statement is completely made up.

00:11:15
Speaker 2: Yes stuff, yes, at the very least he's been accused of exaggerating, but yes, mostly just completely making it up.

00:11:22
Speaker 1: So she's yeah, she nailed it on this, But Robes, it's not just her statement now there, This is not just a personal back and forth in a beef ro. This has implications for our two nations going down the road. We're not allies with Italy? What are we doing with that?

00:11:43
Speaker 2: Blows my mind? But I also feel like I don't know will this have legs? Will this have a ripple effect? I wonder, I wonder if Caitlyn Collins or the next female reporter who he insults publicly with a microphone on doesn't come back at him and say, how dare you speak to me like that?

00:12:02
Speaker 3: Like I would? I would.

00:12:06
Speaker 2: I think we're there, and I think that a reporter would have every right to say.

00:12:10
Speaker 1: That's all at this point point? What is your right? What is decorum when it comes to the president of the United States? Are you required to be insulted? Can you not, in a word, clap back against the president? He called that woman piggy to her face. If she would have said if you missed the president, I don't think I would have been upset with her. He name called the woman piggy.

00:12:34
Speaker 3: She could have at least said, how dare you, mister president? Oh?

00:12:38
Speaker 1: Well, you know what we can go. Let's go down a little more, get even kinder, mister president. I really wish you wouldn't call me that.

00:12:45
Speaker 2: Oh, I really hope that maybe some of I obviously we don't have direct interaction with him, but I really think at this point women we have to stand up to bullies, and he is a bully. I think that's been undisputed by most people. But to pick on people who he knows are trying to keep a certain level of decorum in place, but they're being attacked, they're being humiliated, they're being demeaned publicly, and I think we've had enough.

00:13:21
Speaker 1: You know what, Robes, You're bringing it to a higher level of possibility now it needs She might be Robes. She could be the hero that women need to be able to stand up to a guy. I leave space all the time. There is no space for calling a woman piggy to a face now, and when you're the president, there's even less space for something like that.

00:13:44
Speaker 2: I just and there's no space to be demeaning to another world leader, and especially to it just it felt sexist. I mean, people might disagree with me, but I don't think he would have said that about a man.

00:13:58
Speaker 3: Well maybe he would have.

00:14:00
Speaker 1: Trying to think of off the top of your head, and if we're wrong, you all can tell us I'm sorry, we can't think of one off the top of our heads here. I'm trying to think of when he got into a personal back and forth with a guy, like a male reporter, where he called him you're you're too skinny or big boy, or an insult, or your hair is jacked up, or why are you wearing that stood where he personally attacked a man. I know he used to mix it up with Jim Acosta, but that was more fake news a terrible net when he says that. But these kinds of personal insults, I can't think of one. I might be missing something.

00:14:29
Speaker 2: The only and I'm trying to think, was there anything that was a personal attack against Zelensky Ukrainian President Zelenski, because that was the only other I can think a male world leader who he demeaned.

00:14:43
Speaker 1: He insults Bruce Springsteen, Right, he does insult Bruce Springsteen. But what he doesn't do it to his face. Who did he have in the you remember you're talking about the meeting, was Zelensky in the correct that you know that was a back and forth and it's still it wasn't a why are you even wearing that stupid black jacket?

00:14:57
Speaker 2: All the time, he was like, he saves I think he saves his insults towards men. He keeps it, like about their organization or about their like you know, the CNN's of the world, like your fake news, like basically talking about your colleagues and your network. Are this, But I don't remember or recall a mean spirited personal attack towards a man.

00:15:23
Speaker 1: We assume we're missing one, folks, as we're sitting here. We just can't think of one off the top of our heads. There's gotta be one. I'm sure there's been an incident of some kind. But yes, we can recall immediately all the ones, whether it's Nancy Belosis, Elizabeth Warren, the names he has for women, sleepy Joe.

00:15:40
Speaker 3: He talks about Hunter Biden.

00:15:41
Speaker 1: You won't maybe Vice President Kamala Harris by her correct name.

00:15:47
Speaker 3: Yes, still that is true.

00:15:48
Speaker 1: Knows her name.

00:15:49
Speaker 3: Yes, it's not Kamala.

00:15:51
Speaker 1: That's the vice president. And I don't respect you enough to get your name right. I'm actually gonna get a whole movement of people to mispronounce your name because none of us respect you. That kind of ish.

00:16:02
Speaker 3: It's deliberate.

00:16:02
Speaker 1: I only see from him. But stay here, Folks, there is fallout from this, Yes, diplomatic fallout. Trips are being canceled. Strong statements are being made, and we're gonna wrap up at the end, though, stick around for the one hilarious response to this entire back and forth here, all right, we continue here all this episode of Amy and TJ. The hero that women need it might have just emerged again, folks, this is not about politics. This is not about the Prime minister's politics or the president's politics. This it's about just decent human decency. And I wanted to ask you which one's worse. If it's true and he put it out, or if it's not true and he put it out.

00:16:53
Speaker 3: Oh, it's worse if it's not true. It's worse if he completely made it up. And you know what, I'm sorry, but I believe Georgia Maloney. I believe her. The way she said it, how strongly she said it, how quickly she said it, the way she put it out there, I believe her.

00:17:10
Speaker 1: And we don't have yet an official statement from the White House about this. You know they're going to be asked, but as of this recording, we happen to be way ahead right now over in Europe. So but as of this recording, there has not been a response Ropes. There's fallout. The freaking we had a visit that was supposed to come next week from the Italian Foreign minister. Bros put out a statement cancel, I ain't coming.

00:17:32
Speaker 2: And by the way, I loved all of this. I felt like, this is so cool to see a country and other members of its government stand up for and support the prime minister in this. So Italy's foreign mister minister has canceled.

00:17:47
Speaker 1: Is a guy, by the way, is Aeigns.

00:17:49
Speaker 2: Yes, he's a foreign mister and a foreign minister, but he has canceled a very u a trip to the United States. It's literally taking place in the next couple of days, so this weekend he's to be going official diplomatic trip.

00:18:01
Speaker 3: And this is what he said.

00:18:03
Speaker 2: This serious and offensive words of President Trump towards Prime Minister Georgia Maloney offend all of Italy. For this reason, I have decided to cancel my visit to the United States scheduled for the next twenty one and twenty two of June, which is literally this weekend. And I say, hell yeah, and there's more.

00:18:25
Speaker 1: Do you think does it make a difference. Again, we don't know if you would have done it to a male leader. I don't know what will people come to and rally around. Yeah, she's a lee, there's no weakness or anything like that. But it's something about your beating up on our our homegirl, like it'd be different. That was a like you're a bully picking on a woman, woman leader.

00:18:49
Speaker 2: At a time when we need more female leaders this country.

00:18:52
Speaker 3: I don't know when we might ele liked one.

00:18:53
Speaker 2: But I love that Italy has and I love seeing the reaction from the country surrounding like the defense of her and not that a woman needs men to come rushing to her defense, but I like that they are.

00:19:05
Speaker 3: I like that they are.

00:19:07
Speaker 1: Now they just happen to be the ones in this position. Other people are coming to her defense. Yes, but yeah, I don't, Uh, Robes, what are we gonna do with this guy? Because there are some things, you know, I'm the one everybody listens here knows I'm trying to leave room for you.

00:19:24
Speaker 2: Even tell me, like Robes, just be just be measured and look, I get it. But to me, to me, I understand this. This has been difficult for journalists because, yes, it is our job to remain as objective as we possibly can. But I really don't think that you can stay objective when it comes to indecent behavior. It's not about policy, it's not about politics. It's about how you treat someone. And when someone treats someone poorly, I think it's our job to also explain what's happened and share the outrage and call us call call something for what it is.

00:20:04
Speaker 1: Is there another side? Are there? His supporters defending this, saying, well, she didn't stand with him.

00:20:09
Speaker 3: Well, I'm sure she gets I'm sure there are, and.

00:20:12
Speaker 1: That's fine if he didn't want to be an ally or didn't want.

00:20:15
Speaker 3: To Yeah, why are we picking a fight with Italy? Why that was?

00:20:21
Speaker 2: That was his small no, his large ego and his small mindedness that prompted that response, Whether it was true or not.

00:20:31
Speaker 3: His response to that broadcaster was childlike. Period.

00:20:39
Speaker 1: We heard more. Another representative there, I I, you don't know his name?

00:20:44
Speaker 3: Who he's the understuck?

00:20:45
Speaker 1: Well, he's the under second. But I actually included it here because I just thought he had such a cool Italian lane.

00:20:49
Speaker 3: Can you say it?

00:20:50
Speaker 1: Yeah, giovonn Bautistas Alari.

00:20:54
Speaker 3: That's cool, it's very Italian.

00:20:55
Speaker 1: His name is Giovann Battista.

00:20:57
Speaker 3: Sounds like a like a sports car I want to drive.

00:20:59
Speaker 1: I like that. Scott, what is your guy? The guy the actor Giovanna.

00:21:02
Speaker 2: Oh, it's gian Carlow, John Carlow, and I forgot his last name. But he's the guy from Breaking Bad.

00:21:09
Speaker 1: Yes, well, yes, he's the undersecretary there in her office. But he put out this statement. Saint's unclear whether out of intent or ineptitude, love that Trump is wrecking the historic relations between the United States and Europe. That just send an email out to every leader in Europe. Use this language, like what are you? What is he doing?

00:21:32
Speaker 2: He's wrecking the historic relations between the United States and Europe. He didn't even say Italy. He said between the United States and Europe. He went on to say, with his inappropriate outburst, he has managed no easy feat to make the United States unpopular across the entire European continent, damaging not only Europe but above all the United States. These statements are amazing, and I do think at a certain point people have to start speaking up for themselves, whether it's the Prime Minister of Italy, whether it's the next reporter, he insults. But I actually think this is the only way forward. We have to call someone out when they are bullying someone else, when they are demeaning someone else. I do think sometimes what do they say how you fight a bully? You show him what he's done. You don't power, you don't back down. It's not that you have to return fire. And I don't think any of this is returning fire. I think it's look at what you're doing, Why are you doing this? And we will not let this go unchecked. We're going to call you out for it.

00:22:46
Speaker 1: It's hard even if you're a supporter of the president. Many people obviously continue to be but Robes, I don't know how you could be proud of this moment. I don't know why you could be proud of what your country just did to another, and what your leader just did to another. I don't know. It's not something to be proud of. And but I wanted this note, well, like it's your thought out because leg you were on the edge of there of jumping out.

00:23:08
Speaker 2: Well, I guess my point is, and I understand that there obviously are plenty of people who are supporters of President Trump because they agree with how he generally leads this country with his policy decisions, maybe even how he handles dealing with our economy as it relates to the world economy.

00:23:25
Speaker 3: And I get all of that, but at.

00:23:28
Speaker 2: A certain point, if you disagree with him, and isn't this the foundation of America if we disagrees, And people might have agreed with his decision to go to war with Iran, but if other countries don't want to get involved with our war, if other countries don't want to send troops to the Strait of Horror moves, We're not. We're just going to insult them. We're going to try to humiliate them. We're going to try to embarrass them into being our allies when they already are our allies. We're creating enemies left and right. Just I'm confused how that's not being addressed or acknowledged.

00:24:04
Speaker 1: It that part you mentioned he has gotten upset with other countries for not helping in a war. He started correct, that's that's uh, that's odd. That was oh, you know me and my it was a Chris rock line. It's like, why you wouldn't help Mike Tyson beat up Arkle, Like you're the United States knock yourself out. Why do I need to go sacrifice Italian lives? You got it? You're good to a certain degree. That makes sense.

00:24:32
Speaker 3: Yes, if he had gone to we're not a part of NATO anymore.

00:24:37
Speaker 2: But okay, but say he had gone to other world leaders, that's a whole other podcast.

00:24:44
Speaker 3: Sorry I went somewhere I shouldn't have gone. But the idea, it's actually word.

00:24:48
Speaker 2: I'm laughing at the idea of President Trump even taking the temperature of other countries, let alone our own Congress before he decides to involve our country in a war.

00:24:58
Speaker 1: We're the most powerful military the world has ever known. Hey, Italy, can you help?

00:25:04
Speaker 2: And if you don't, we're gonna we're gonna say really mean things about.

00:25:07
Speaker 3: You in public.

00:25:08
Speaker 1: Okay, So after all this, bros want to leave end with this last quote, and maybe this is the way we should all be thinking about it again, another person from Italy put out, I thought this was great and maybe this is the tone we should have. But this was the Italian Defense minister on X.

00:25:24
Speaker 2: I just fell a little bit more in love with Italy. Always been a fan, but I think this is making me fall in love a little more. The Italian Defense Minister went on x and wrote this, I cannot imagine Giorgio Maloney asking anyone for a photo, not even under threat.

00:25:45
