RSS Feed King Charles and Queen Camilla have arrived in the U.S. to celebrate our country’s independence from Great Britain 250 years ago, at a time of deep political divisions in this country, with political violence dominating the headlines. Today, the King will be the second monarch in history to address a joint session of Congress, his mother, Queen Elizabeth, was the first. King Charles remarks will come after a private, bilateral meeting with Trump at the Oval Office without a presser afterwards. In fact, we’ll explain why there are only photo ops with the King, no questions allowed from the press.

I actually didn't even really know why they were coming. Why are King Charles and Queen Camilla here well to commemorate America's two hundred and fiftieth birthday. And maybe you all knew that, but honestly I didn't. I was like, wait, why are they even coming? This is a four day trip. They arrived to great pomp and circumstance. Yesterday we watched them land at Andrews Air Force Base and being greeted by it looked like British members of the British Embassy and some of their children. But they've already had a few photo ops that have been widely circulated, among them looking at the White House beehives. I didn't even know the White House had behives. I didn't need it there, Millennia's apparently.

And I did think it was quite funny. Was waiting for him to talk about it. But did you see And we can get into the photo ops that we've seen, But when President Trump was leading King Charles and Camilla alongside Milania into the White House, he pointed to the east wing and basically, you know, when you have guests and you're under construction, you kind of make excuses like, hey, sorry, it's a little bit of a mess. We're remodeling. Right now. It seemed like that was what was happening with President Trump and the King. Excuse our mess little construction going on. It's been halted a little issue with a judge and trying to get this ballroom built. But it was kind of funny to even see the President doing what we've often done when you've tried to explain to your guess why it's not maybe the way you'd like it to be while receiving them.

They travel with an entourage, They've got people, so it's probably a little more comfortable across the street at Blair House. But this is a big day today, This is a historic day. Today. He's expected to talk about reconciliation and renewal. That is what we've been told the theme of his speech is. And he is also reportedly going to include a brief message of sympathy for the White House Correspondence dinner shooting. So maybe, I don't know, would that be potentially unifying.

So I'm actually looking at this as a potential reprieve and all of the other negative coverage we have about what's happening at the word White House and what's happening at Congress Fingers crossed. King Charles can make that happen, but look, there is the potential for things to get awkward. We can go over some of President Trump's recent statements about the UK and certainly this big schedule that the Royals are keeping up because DC is just their first stop on their four day tour of the United States. She's led the charge, the menu, just the wine pairings, all of the things that go into presenting a large state dinner for the British monarchs. There will be some fun details that come out of this, and like, I just feel like it's nice to talk about something unifying, potentially something fun, something not heavy and dark and divisive, which has been pretty much plaguing politics and our coverage of it for I don't know how long. So I'm actually looking at this as a potential reprieve and all of the other negative coverage we have about what's happening at the word White House and what's happening at Congress Fingers crossed. King Charles can make that happen, but look, there is the potential for things to get awkward. We can go over some of President Trump's recent statements about the UK and certainly this big schedule that the Royals are keeping up because DC is just their first stop on their four day tour of the United States. King Charles it's his first visit to the US officially as king, alongside his Queen. I guess she is the Queen, Queen Camilla. After much back and forth, she is Queen Camilla and they have a very busy schedule. But it's going to be interesting this meeting. The we don't get to know that much about between King Charles and President Trump. Look, if you actually look and see what President Trump has recently said about the United Kingdom, specifically about Keir Starmer, is that going to be addressed between these two men? Oh?

Speaker 2: I mean, look, Trump has been very public in his frustration with the United Kingdom for not joining US in our war with Iran and certainly with any of the issues with the Strait of Hormuz. He said, this is not Winston Churchill we're dealing with. By the way, I'm not happy with UK. He called him a coward. He belittled the British Navy. I don't know. Do the British people want King Charles to say anything in defense of Great Britain, stand up for their navy, stand up for their Prime Minister. Does he have any obligation to do so.

Look, I know there's all sorts of protocol. Are you're not supposed to touch royals? I know that much. The curtseying thing and all of that can get very confusing to me. I would probably freak out in that moment. I've never met a royal, but I know you're not supposed to touch them.

Speaker 2: I would say, yeah, because look, Trump is threatened to tear up the trade deal between the US and the UK. That's how fractured and fraid things have become. So I do also feel like because the President likes the King so much, just on a personal level, he can almost use the King's presence here and his visit here as a way to perhaps soften his rhetoric against the United Kingdom and give credit to the King for doing so. It's an off ramp for the president, so to speak, if he so chooses. But this is a busy schedule. After the state dinner tonight, guess where the royals are headed next?

I you know what this is? Awful? I couldn't. I didn't recall this. But we are now approaching our twenty fifth anniversary, the twenty fifth anniversary of the nine to eleven attacks, So they are marking plenty of anniversaries, two hundred and fifty years here celebrating our country and twenty five years ago the attack on the World Trade Towers. But then they go to Virginia next. I didn't know what they were doing there, but they're observing performances by Appalachian cultural groups and they're going to attend a block party. I just that made me laugh.

Speaker 2: I mean, it could be fun. But they had a garden party yesterday that was very fitting for the Royals there at the British Embassy. So they're going to go from their garden party to their block party in Virginia. And again I briefly touched on this with Something they will not be doing is meeting survivors of Jeffrey Epstein, something the Palace said the couple cannot do while legal proceedings are underway. But certainly we've seen some very vocal folks upset about the fact that King Charles wouldn't even meet or listen to any of the Epstein victims. Not shocking that they made that choice.

Speaker 1: The schedule, that big, full four day schedule, also does not include his son. Don't get me wrong. I know it's a flight, but still it's half of the flight it would have taken if you had to go all the way to London. But well, yes, it's not on a schedule. It could be something private, it could be something we don't know about, but it at least is of note that he's coming to the US and not seeing his US living son and his grandkids.

Speaker 2: And to that point, yes, and also Harry, Prince Harry, I guess he's not Prince Harry anymore, right, you can't call him that. He's Harry and Meghan or just Harry himself isn't making the effort to take that trip over to New York to meet his dad. So yes, people have made note of that that this is an official visit that will not include any family downtime. And certainly I think that would have been something though to see and we would all applaud it. But yes, the Royals are here and just wanted to put that on your map because we haven't talked a lot about it. Get a little other news here going on in this country, but certainly we will be watching and listening to King Charles as he makes that historic speech in Congress today.
