President Trump Tells 9/11 Tale Of Being “Rescued”; Critics Call Him “Delusional”
The President made yet another questionable claim about his experience and involvement during and in the aftermath the 9/11 attacks while honoring first responders at an event in DC on Tuesday. Trump claims two strong fireman lifted him up and pulled him from a building because of fears that the United States Steel building might come crashing down. The problem, fact checkers maintain that Trump was actually at Trump Towers at the time of the attack, which is several miles away from the “creaky building” which he described as “not so far from us.” This is just the latest in a series of conflicting and erroneous comments the President has made over the years regarding his involvement and recollection of his role, but Trump has fired back at his critics in a lengthy Truth Social post, insisting it’s all “fake news.”

Speaker 1: Hey there, folks. It's Wednesday, September 9th. And even when it comes to 9-11, President Trump doesn't seem to be able to keep the story straight. And now a number of news outlets are calling him out for the 9-11 story he has to tell. And with that, welcome to this episode of Amy and TJ. Aren't people, some, going to see this and, okay, it was 25 years ago. He messes up a few details here and there. No big deal. Is there any argument to be made here?
00:00:31
Speaker 2: Well, that's the argument, well, I guess that no one's making because he's claiming he stated the facts, that he's correct, and he's trying to show proof that everything he said is verifiable. However, yeah, I don't think anyone's even acknowledging that he might have accidentally gotten a few details mixed up. These are very significant details. statements he's made that have been verified to be untrue.
00:00:59
Speaker 1: Okay, and so this has kind of risen to a level, Rose, because he felt compelled enough to make a social media post in response to some of this stuff going on. And you and I look at his social media, his truth social posts every single day. This is a top five long post. He had a lot of explaining to do. Apparently, Rose, he didn't appreciate the coverage.
00:01:24
Speaker 2: That's true. I don't remember what the word count was, but one of the outlets had the word count on it. It was like 690-something. It was long.
00:01:34
Speaker 3: Yeah.
00:01:34
Speaker 1: It was long and a lot of explaining. The fact that he felt compelled to do so certainly got our attention. But, Rose, this got going yesterday because he was once again in a public event. Look, there's a lot of 9-11 commemorative events going on right now as we go up to the anniversary. And so he was at one here in New York. Yes.
00:01:52
Speaker 2: He was actually in D.C. He was at the Ellipse, the Tunnel to Towers event. It's taking place throughout the country.
00:01:58
Speaker 1: You told me this yesterday, and we just tunneled the towers. It's in our head here that it's in New York.
00:02:03
Speaker 2: Yes, that would make sense. We think about the Holland Tunnel or the Lincoln Tunnel, and they have an annual run, walk that goes from where the towers once were. So that's why it's in your head it was in New York City. But this is actually an event that's taking place around the country, and it was being held there at the Ellipse in New York. And yes, it was an event paying homage or tribute to first responders. This latest statement sent folks in a tailspin because as we'll explain over the years, he has embellished. Some people said flat out lied about Trump. Where he was, what he saw, what he did during and after the attacks. But yesterday's statements were incredible.
00:02:48
Speaker 1: What's the one that got him in trouble? Is this the one that the quote in there, right after? Is that the one that says right after this? messing with people where he says, I was there right after. What do you mean?
00:02:57
Speaker 2: He said right after, and he said a big building. What big building was he in? So yes, he was vague in some of his comments that could have been interpreted in many different ways. I felt like maybe he thought it gave him some wiggle room, but for journalists who know exactly where he was on that day and exactly when he was actually near the site, what interviews he gave, what he's saying doesn't jibe with what the facts are.
00:03:21
Speaker 1: All right.
00:03:22
Speaker 2: Period. So yesterday at this ceremony, he said this, I just thank my people. I was building a big building in New York, and I took the whole crew down there right after this happened, and they had no hesitation. The United States Steel Building was creaking, really creaking, and we thought it was going to fall down. We thought it was coming down on top of us. And two firemen, big, strong guys, and I'm not the smallest guy in the world, they grabbed me under the arm, said, gotta get out of here. And they literally lifted me up. This is not easy to do.
00:03:58
Speaker 1: I'm big.
00:03:59
Speaker 2: They lifted me up and they started running with me. I said, fellas, I can run myself. But they were amazing. But they thought it was coming down. It didn't come down. What building... When did this happen? I mean, you could take what he said and infer that he was in a building near 9-11 that was about to come crashing down. It couldn't be further from the truth.
00:04:24
Speaker 1: Okay, that's on you if you made that inference. That's on you if you jumped to that conclusion. It's not what he said. No, right? But it sounds like a harrowing tale of escaping a terrorist attack.
00:04:37
Speaker 2: Yes, with a building about to come crashing down on top of you.
00:04:40
Speaker 1: Here's the problem.
00:04:42
Speaker 2: He was referring to the U.S. Steel Building, which is now One Liberty Plaza. And it didn't come down. That is true. But it was two and a half miles away from where President Trump was in Trump Tower on Fifth Avenue in Midtown. So he was, it's fair to say, nowhere near the site of Ground Zero and couldn't have possibly been at risk of having one of the buildings near Ground Zero fall on top of his building in Midtown Manhattan.
00:05:21
Speaker 1: Let me devil's advocate this thing. Could he have been suggesting, when he said right after, he meant... The next day. Or the next day, right after gives an impression. Yes, of course, it was that moment. You combine with right after with a building coming down. That sounds immediate. That sounds urgent. That must have been right in that moment.
00:05:45
Speaker 2: Maybe.
00:05:46
Speaker 1: Maybe. We're jumping to a conclusion about that statement that he can still argue that statement is accurate. Is that fair?
00:05:53
Speaker 2: It is fair because CNN's Daniel Dale actually is apparently a savant when it comes to fact-checking President Trump. And he said, you know what's so interesting, that while President Trump was campaigning in 2016â He told a similar story, but it was a slightly different version. He said at that point on the campaign trail 10 years ago that he was whisked away from one Liberty Plaza by a big fireman, but he said it happened a couple of days after 9-11.
00:06:26
Speaker 1: Okay, so now we're talking about the same story. So now this is consistent other than the right after. Is that fair? Correct. He told two different stories. The other story said that it was days later, and in this latest version, he said it was right after. Is that right?
00:06:42
Speaker 2: Correct.
00:06:42
Speaker 1: Okay.
00:06:43
Speaker 2: And he did tell the story in a way that suggested to most people listening that this was all happening in the midst of or in the immediate aftermath of the 9-11 attacks. That was part of the confusion. Now, add this to a significant number of other previous 9-11 statements that have been all over the place, and now people are just starting to list all of his inconsistent stories.
00:07:13
Speaker 1: Okay, so I know you're going to get to this, but the ones from seeing it from his apartment is a pretty good one.
00:07:18
Speaker 2: I got it for you. Okay, that was a pretty good one. So, during a 2015 campaign rally, he told a crowd in Columbus, Ohio... that he personally saw people jumping from the World Trade Center on 9-11. Here is his quote. I witnessed that. I watched that. I have a view, a view in my apartment that was specifically aimed at the World Trade Center. And I watched those people jump. And I watched the second plane hit. I saw the second plane hit the building. And I said, wow, that's unbelievable. Here's the problem. Trump's apartment at the time was a penthouse in Midtown. It was four miles away from the towers.
00:08:01
Speaker 1: Which part of Midtown?
00:08:02
Speaker 2: Folks who know where this apartment building is say that they have gone and looked. They claim it is impossible for Trump to have seen what he claims to have seen. That is an issue. And one of the most egregious statements he made that just pissed a lot of people off, it was also erroneous, was I believe it was on September 11th. He was doing an interview. Oh, no. And he talked about, people asked, did your building survive it, 40 Wall Street? And he went on to say, yes, it survived it. But by the way, it was the second tallest building before the World Trade Center came down. But now that the World Trade Center is gone, it's now the tallest building in Manhattan. Yeah. On 9-11.
00:08:41
Speaker 3: Yeah.
00:08:44
Speaker 2: First of all, it's not true. 40 Wall Street was not then the tallest building in Manhattan, but that was his focus on 9-11. And that's all of this is bringing that back.
00:08:56
Speaker 1: Up to the forefront. Are we sure that quote's accurate? Because every time I see it.
00:09:00
Speaker 2: Multiple sources are reporting it.
00:09:01
Speaker 1: Every time I see it, I think, surely he was misquoted. There's no way he said that every time I see it. But yeah, it's.
00:09:08
Speaker 2: That rubbed people, as you might imagine, the wrong way. He's focused on his building now being the tallest, now that the World Trade Center has fallen. Yeah, that was a problem. The other issue is he's claimed for years and in multiple interviews that he was at ground zero with a large crew of his workers. He said he helped with the recovery in the days after the attacks. The problem is no one on site has ever reported seeing Trump or even a Trump crew. The retired New York Fire Department deputy chief went on the record saying, I spent many months there myself. I never once witnessed him. He was a private citizen at the time. I don't know what kind of role he could have possibly played.
00:09:56
Speaker 1: He was claiming that he took like he had a crew. working on a building somewhere else in town and to help out down there, he just grabbed everybody and came down. He made it sound like they came as a group of something like that.
00:10:08
Speaker 2: Yes, and look, we'll get... Perhaps next we can get to his truth social response. But I will say with along with the truth social response, he did put up multiple pictures and videos. So he put up a video of a Q & A with reporters in the in the caption. It says hours after 9-11. USA Today says it is from September 13th, two days after 9-11. He put up a photo of him.
00:10:34
Speaker 1: 48 hours.
00:10:35
Speaker 2: Near outside the New York Stock Exchange, showing him walking strongly with photographers behind him. Photographer said, I took that picture that was taken on September 18th of 2001. And then he had a couple interviews where you hear him talking about... Wait, whoa, whoa, whoa.
00:10:49
Speaker 1: I'm sorry. He posted that one?
00:10:51
Speaker 2: He posted that one, too.
00:10:52
Speaker 1: The one that was a week later? Yes. He posted it, though? Yes. Oh, shit, I'm sorry.
00:10:55
Speaker 2: He posted it on his true social. And then he also posted two different interviews, one with a German... reporter one with an NBC reporter and then like a gaggle of reporters where he does talk about hundreds of his men are helping and I'm with them so at the time he was saying hundreds of his men were down at 9-11 helping in the recovery.
00:11:15
Speaker 1: Efforts anybody verify that no I haven't seen.
00:11:17
Speaker 2: Not one person not one person.
00:11:20
Speaker 1: No I don't know what records there could be of that is that possible he took some people and they were just kind of just down there not in official capacity but just digging through and doing whatever they could.
00:11:29
Speaker 2: And look, to say he immediately went there, you know, look, we're talking in one point, you can see him near ground zero, as in the New York Stock Exchange, a week later, a few days later. But it certainly, at the very least, seems like a fairly significant embellishment. And that's the last thing, actually, we want to hear from anyone, certainly a leader, certainly the president, and especially when it comes to September 11th.
00:11:55
Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, nobody... To put yourself in the middle of it, to put yourself in danger, even how he explains it. I don't know where those firefighters are. I mean, that story seems like it could have been verified. It looks like those guys would have been the moment of their lives to a certain degree in the middle of 9-11. I had to rescue Donald Trump, right?
00:12:15
Speaker 2: Who are these big, strong firemen?
00:12:17
Speaker 1: And what is it that that plaza, that one liberty, which is, we know that area very, very, very well, in fact, for years. A couple years of our lives, we walked by it two or three times a day. It's two blocks, two plus or so blocks from the towers. It's not, I mean, it's all, at that time, felt like it was all right there. I don't know. Maybe it was unstable. They didn't know a lot of buildings. They weren't sure we were going to come down or whatever. I don't know. I don't know, baby. It's just another, you know, we say this. How many times a day do we use this phrase? That's on brand.
00:12:53
Speaker 2: Yes.
00:12:53
Speaker 1: Right. And that's why with something like this, we can't give him the benefit of the doubt on his memory, given that he's still telling us that a three time Olympian damaged the damn reflecting pool. You lose credibility with something like that to where now we can't give him the benefit of the doubt on his story.
00:13:10
Speaker 2: To your point, the critics are calling him delusional. Some of them are calling him a disgraceful liar. And others are saying this is another example of the fact that our president is suffering from dementia right in front of our eyes.
00:13:26
Speaker 1: Okay, now that is an innocuous charge or at least suggestion of what's going on. Like, he doesn't mean to be. He actually, his mind is not cooperating and allowing him to remember this stuff, maybe even remember what lie he told to stay consistent. Okay, I didn't think about that leading into this.
00:13:47
Speaker 2: Yeah, delusion, dementia, or just a flat-out lie. So when we come back, we will read for you President Trump's truth social response to all the critics. Welcome back, everyone, to Amy and TJ, President Trump. certainly heard or I guess felt the heat and felt the need to respond to many, many critics out there. There are numerous articles being written, but pretty much all of them are calling our president a bold-faced liar.
00:14:27
Speaker 1: That's, I don't know, 25 years ago. Maybe you don't remember some stuff. Don't you remember?
00:14:32
Speaker 2: Where were you on 9-11, babe? Where were you?
00:14:36
Speaker 1: I was standing in the bedroom of my apartment in Little Rock, Arkansas. Today's show was on. I was getting ready because I was going to have to leave and make a drop off. Yes, I know exactly what I was doing. I know exactly what I was driving. I remember seeing the planes in Little Rock at the airport lined up in the sky landing because they, right? It was a ground stop. Every plane had to land. And I remember seeing that and go, oh, holy hell. Yeah, that was going across I-30, going across downtown. Yeah, I remember everything.
00:15:07
Speaker 2: You remember details.
00:15:09
Speaker 1: Yes, I do. I remember the bed was not made. In the bedroom even. Yes, I do remember. I remember the bed at the time had a footboard as well. Yes, to your point, didn't think about that until this very moment.
00:15:20
Speaker 2: Every person listening knows exactly what they were doing and to your point, remembers odd but specific details because it was a moment that you will never forget. that is frozen in your brain.
00:15:33
Speaker 1: Damn, that's funny, baby. I never thought about that. Yes. I remember everything.
00:15:37
Speaker 2: And ironically, I mean, you can't be coy with the hashtag never forget, which is something that we attribute to 9-11. But this is, oh, the irony, the fact that President Trump has clearly forgotten or misremembered what he was doing. But this is what the president's true social response was. The failing New York magazine wrote a story that I wasn't down at the World Trade Center after the tragedy of September 11th because nobody saw me there.
00:16:06
Speaker 1: Wait, can I stop? Is that what they're reporting? It's not at all, is it?
00:16:11
Speaker 2: It's part of the report.
00:16:12
Speaker 1: No, but I'm saying, they said, nobody saw him, therefore he's lying. That wasn't. That's not how they're going about it. It's not that simple. They're giving evidence. They're using his own statements. Yes, okay.
00:16:22
Speaker 2: It's very documented. And it's not just the New York Magazine. Plenty of outlets are also putting out their own reporting. Well, I don't think I would be the first thing on anyone's mind, but I was there. Obviously, not on the same day as the collapse of but shortly thereafter with a large group of construction workers. I discussed it today during my remarks on the ellipse in Washington, D.C. for Tunnel to Towers. Everything I said was exactly accurate. And to prove the point, I am attaching clips of me there with numerous of my people, including my then head of security, Matthew Calamari, who has confirmed that very sad trip to Lower Manhattan many times to many different journalists. But it's a story that just won't die. Calamari is his name.
00:17:11
Speaker 1: Is it really, though?
00:17:11
Speaker 2: Or Calama, for folks who are in New Jersey.
00:17:14
Speaker 1: Sorry, I'm totally distracted.
00:17:17
Speaker 2: That's his last name.
00:17:18
Speaker 1: Totally distracted.
00:17:19
Speaker 2: All right. The fake news doesn't want to listen, even when they know their story is false. That's why their approval ratings are at an all-time low, but mine are very high. Is that true?
00:17:32
Speaker 1: His approval numbers?
00:17:33
Speaker 2: I know the answer, but I just wanted you to answer.
00:17:35
Speaker 1: Oh, okay. I mean, the media's might be lower. And he's responsible for that.
00:17:39
Speaker 2: He says his are very high in all caps.
00:17:42
Speaker 1: No.
00:17:42
Speaker 2: Okay, so once he makes that statement, how do you believe any of the rest of his statement? Can I just point that out?
00:17:47
Speaker 1: That one is quickly verifiable. Yes. That's false.
00:17:50
Speaker 2: It's not in dispute. Okay, I continue with the president's words. On another September 11th front, Maggot Hagerman, her actual name is Maggie.
00:18:02
Speaker 1: Haberman.
00:18:03
Speaker 2: Haberman. Yes. But Maggot Hagerman continues to say that I did not go to the New York World Trade Center event, but the Pentagon instead, because they wouldn't let me speak in New York. Yes, he is not going to be at Ground Zero come the 25th anniversary on Friday.
00:18:24
Speaker 1: Just on the surface, that sounds like a big deal. This seems like everyone. I mean, this is the biggest anniversary so far. I mean, I know, just round numbers and whatever, but 25 years.
00:18:33
Speaker 2: Babe, that's... Do you know who was going to be there?
00:18:36
Speaker 1: Who was going to be there?
00:18:37
Speaker 2: Who is going to be there?
00:18:38
Speaker 1: Everybody else.
00:18:40
Speaker 2: Yes. President Biden. President Obama.
00:18:42
Speaker 1: Everybody.
00:18:42
Speaker 2: President Bush. Everybody. Everybody.
00:18:45
Speaker 1: Yeah.
00:18:45
Speaker 3: Everybody.
00:18:45
Speaker 1: Because you're supposed to be.
00:18:46
Speaker 2: President Clinton.
00:18:46
Speaker 1: You have to be. Yes.
00:18:47
Speaker 2: And J.D. Vance.
00:18:49
Speaker 1: Everybody. That feels like a slight.
00:18:53
Speaker 2: It does.
00:18:53
Speaker 1: And obviously he could do both if he wanted to in some capacity.
00:18:56
Speaker 2: I don't know.
00:18:57
Speaker 1: He's a New York guy, baby.
00:18:59
Speaker 2: It seems like a choice. And yes, the New York Magazine did report that he had said to them that, well, I want to give a speech, and I can't give a speech. That is true. You are not allowed to give a political speech at Ground Zero. And so the reporting from the New York Magazine was that he wanted to give a speech, and so that's why he's going to be at the Pentagon rather than Ground Zero. So anyway, he says, Maggot knows this is a lie. Yeah.
00:19:27
Speaker 3: Yeah.
00:19:40
Speaker 2: At the World Trade Center site in New York. Certainly, I would not want to violate that. Even if I could, I speak enough. And it just so happens that the strong request was made for me to be at the Pentagon instead, with VP Vance handling our administration's representation.
00:19:57
Speaker 1: In New York.
00:19:58
Speaker 2: He's the president. He can decide to go wherever he wants to go. And he's making her point. She wasn't saying that he was She was reporting that he said that's why he wasn't going to be there because you can't give a speech. He's acting as if she was saying he didn't know he couldn't give a speech. No, that's not what she reported. So that was even confusing how he tried to defend himself in that. Like he mixed up what she was even saying to defend himself. Anyway, he goes on. Hagerman, unattractive both inside and out.
00:20:33
Speaker 1: Was that necessary?
00:20:34
Speaker 2: Of course it wasn't. It's so offensive, I cannot even begin to speak. But he goes on, Hagerman, unattractive, both inside and out, fully knows that her story is made up. She knows less about me than the average reporter on the beat. I haven't spoken to her in a long time, and certainly there was no fact-checking for her story. There never is. Let her reveal her sources, because they don't exist. Again, speeches are not made at the New York event. And even if they were, I never asked to speak. All she said was he didn't want to come because he wanted to give a speech, and because you can't give a speech, he's at the Pentagon instead of Ground Zero. So I'm confused what he's trying to say here.
00:21:17
Speaker 1: Is that a problem? I don't know. He gets judged so harshly, rightly so, a lot of people can say. This is one of those, babe, where... I don't know what's right, what's wrong, who's to say. Maybe they appreciate it in D.C., but my God, baby, New York.
00:21:34
Speaker 2: His hometown.
00:21:36
Speaker 1: This is 25 years. And yes, pain was caused. That's not a comparative, baby. But they call it ground zero for a reason. This was the point of the day in that attack. And for what this city went through to have your president, for whatever reason, Just decide. I'm not going to swing by at all. When was he here last, baby? Like, I'm not going to come lay a wreath.
00:22:03
Speaker 2: At the Knicks game, I believe, is the last time I recall him being here on official business.
00:22:07
Speaker 1: So maybe he should stay gone then, because that didn't go well for the Knicks. I mean, is that what we're doing?
00:22:12
Speaker 2: It didn't. Look, I was in D.C. You know, I lived in D.C. at the time of the attacks. New York was the epicenter. Like, there's no question.
00:22:18
Speaker 1: Does that feel, to your point, Robes, it feels like an intentional choice decision. and slight. You add the Haberman reporting, it feels like it's an intentional slight because even 9-11 is not more important than his ego and what he wants. Babe, it does feel a little insulting, I suppose, babe. It's the 25th anniversary. He won't make the time to come by. He won't make time to swing by at all this week. Put a rose on somebody's name. At the memorial, baby.
00:22:55
Speaker 2: Also, he is the president, and he has access to Air Force One. How long is the flight from New York to D.C.? I know the.
00:23:02
Speaker 1: Train is three hours even. I mean, you got time. They can have him here.
00:23:07
Speaker 2: He could be back to D.C. The Pentagon, yes. He can make it all happen.
00:23:12
Speaker 1: Tops. Obviously, that's not an issue of scheduling, and I can't make it because I'm here. I don't know, baby. Yes.
00:23:21
Speaker 2: So he goes on. He's not done yet. Fake news is getting worse and worse in the USA. It's very important to comment so that people understand what liars and scoundrels these so-called journalists are. They're angry and sick over the fact that I won the presidential election three times. I hereby demand a retraction from Maggot and also for whoever wrote the fake story for New York Magazine. Again, check out the clips of me at the World Trade Center site I was there as soon as the law allowed. Thank you for your attention to this matter.
00:23:58
Speaker 1: When did the law allow?
00:24:01
Speaker 2: Unclear. I don't know.
00:24:02
Speaker 1: Throw that in there. What does that even mean?
00:24:03
Speaker 2: I don't even know. I don't even know.
00:24:07
Speaker 1: You know what? We were.
00:24:08
Speaker 2: I don't know.
00:24:10
Speaker 1: Everything is just sad. And this is one that did... Like, why? This is so unnecessary to slight this city, to slight these people, to slight those families, to insult them.
00:24:22
Speaker 2: And to... And to insert yourself in the tragedy.
00:24:25
Speaker 1: You know, I'm trying to give the guy a break. Maybe he's got the story mixed up. I'm trying, baby. I'm trying. But this, man, we are getting beat up by these moments. This is so sad and unnecessary. We were supposed to do another episode today. Okay, but whatever it is, you better make sure it's the happiest thing we've ever done. Maybe we're doing too much. Sweetheart, this is so upsetting. It's awful after awful. in covering this crap every day.
00:24:54
Speaker 2: It is.
00:24:54
Speaker 1: This is unnecessary.
00:24:55
Speaker 2: It's unnecessary because, again, you always go back to the heart of what most of our problems are individually, in our families, in our country, in our world, and it's ego. It all comes down to ego. And when some people have ginormous ones, there is harm inflicted.
00:25:14
Speaker 1: It hurts. It actually hurts. I wasn't here. I'm from Arkansas, baby. The city deserves more. Wait a minute. Look, there are plenty here who would go, fine, I don't want him here anyway. And that's why you still show up. You have to.
00:25:31
Speaker 2: Because you're the president.
00:25:32
Speaker 1: Maybe he'll change his mind.
00:25:34
Speaker 2: No, no, no.
00:25:34
Speaker 1: I don't know who could be in his ear. Maybe they'll change his mind. But you show up for people even though they don't like you, don't want you there, whatever else. You know what? Went to the Knicks game. Nobody wanted him there. And they lost. Still won the championship. We forgot all about it. Baby, it's 9-11. It's the 25th anniversary. We were there for the 5, for the 10. There's a 15 and a 20. Yes, 25. There are people that are going to be there who are adults and have kids who have now grew up without a parent there and who are now going to bring a grandchild that didn't need to. Like, all those things are happening. It's 25 years. People have lived lives, baby. He just wants to insult them for what?
00:26:17
Speaker 2: He wants to insert himself.
00:26:19
Speaker 1: Insult everybody for what? Even on the story, baby. Give him a pass. You heard me earlier. Mix up some details. This was intentional. This is an intentional slight to New York.
00:26:33
Speaker 3: Yeah.
00:26:34
Speaker 1: Come on, man.
00:26:35
Speaker 2: He got a strong request to be at the Pentagon.
00:26:37
Speaker 1: What you got? Can we go see a movie today or something?
00:26:39
Speaker 2: Yeah, let's go do something to lighten the load. Yeah, we got to do something. We got to do something. And encourage all of you all listening as well.
00:26:45
Speaker 1: Man.
00:26:46
Speaker 2: Channel that frustration. Channel any feelings you're having into being kind. Yes. Being loving and being grateful. Let's focus on that for the rest of the day. And honestly, in honor of those who did die on 9-11 25 years ago.
00:27:00
Speaker 1: You know what? We go by that. Folks don't realize. We do.
00:27:02
Speaker 2: We do.
00:27:03
Speaker 1: This is our neighborhood. We are at the World Trade Site every single day of our lives in New York.
00:27:10
Speaker 2: And every time you go by, I didn't realize this, you pointed it out, there's almost always one person putting a rose on a name because it's someone's birthday. It's a tradition that's taken place over the last quarter century here in Lower Manhattan. And it's beautiful and you love it. And every time you're having a bad day, you even have said, if I just walk by that memorial... Everything shifts. Everything changes. Perspective, immediate perspective descends and you start to realize, wait a minute, what am I doing? I'm alive. Let me live and let me love and let me be kind.
00:27:42
Speaker 1: I've spent so many nights at that place just going and just quiet and reflection and the water is awesome. But Rob, you go by sometimes, you see where the roads are sticking up and you just go see a name you never knew before and you want to Google it.
00:27:53
Speaker 2: You say, happy birthday.
00:27:53
Speaker 1: Who is about that? What is about that person? And then I always get messed up because you go by folks, if you haven't been there, If you come to New York, the first thing you should do is go to the 9-11 memorial before anything else. That's what I always say. There's parts and names you'll come across that says so-and-so and unborn child. You won't even swing by New York because of a speech. That's what I'm saying. That's, that's, babe, come on. Come on. All right. Even 9-11, we can't come together on that.
00:28:27
Speaker 2: The thing that united us at a time when we needed, not for those reasons, but yeah, it's so sad that somehow this has become divisive like just about every other damn thing in this country.
00:28:39
Speaker 1: Baby, I'm sorry. You started this. You were like, oh my goodness, you won't believe he told this story and then this story.
00:28:43
Speaker 2: I didn't realize.
00:28:44
Speaker 1: It was supposed to be light and we were going to get through it and then we get to this part. I forgot about, this wasn't even the main part of this episode. was about the stories he told. But it became, and the upsetting part, when we started talking about Robes, he won't show up. He won't show up on the 25th anniversary of his hometown, right?
00:29:05
Speaker 2: Yep, but he'll defend it to the end.
00:29:07
Speaker 1: His hometown, all right.
00:29:08
Speaker 2: All right, and with that, everyone. We always appreciate you listening to us.
00:29:13
Speaker 1: Everything on the feed the rest of the day is going to be some happy whatever. I don't care what happens.
00:29:17
Speaker 2: All right, I'll find a happy story next.
00:29:19
Speaker 1: I don't care what.
00:29:19
Speaker 2: Let's look for it. And we'll find it. We'll bring it to you. But we always appreciate you listening to us.
00:29:24
Speaker 3: I'm Amy.
00:29:26
Speaker 2: That's TJ. You have a big heart, babe. It's very sweet.
00:29:30
Speaker 1: Babe, it's annoying.
00:29:31
Speaker 3: It's the 25th anniversary. What are we talking about? Of course you show up. Swing dip in and out. You need a place to stay? You have one to crash at. What are we doing?
00:29:46
Speaker 1: Robes, what an insult and a fuck you to the country. I'm not coming to New York for 9-11. Now, you tell me somebody that's going to defend that and say, yeah, he can do what he wants to do. It's fine. Presidents go there all the time. If you're telling me it's not the right thing to do, if you're telling me a president should get a pass for choosing not to come to ground zero on the 25th anniversary, I think presidents should come every year.
00:30:15
Speaker 2: But he was there almost immediately afterwards, babe. With hundreds of his workers.
00:30:19
Speaker 1: Okay, that helps me then. I can make this joke. He can say, been there, done that, don't need to go for the 25th. Thank you, baby. You gave me a stupid-ass joke to say at the end. And with that, we
00:30:30
Speaker 2: Will talk to you soon.
