NEW DEVELOPMENTS: Hundreds Dead, Iranian Retaliation Escalates, and a New Threatening War of Words

Amy and T.J. get you caught up on everything you need to know about the latest developments out of Iran. As of this recording, thousands of Iranians have taken to the streets to either celebrate or mourn the death of their Supreme Leader, killed by U.S. and Israeli air strikes. So far, more than 200 people have reportedly died in Iran, with reports of mass casualties at a girls’ elementary school. Over the past several hours, Iran has stepped up its retaliatory attacks against U.S. bases across the region. Meantime, President Trump warns Iran over its threat to “get even” with the U.S. and Israel, saying: “If they do, we will hit them with a force that has never been seen before.”

00:00:10
Speaker 1: Hey, there're folks, good morning to you.

00:00:11
Speaker 2: It is Sunday, March first, and today we will hit them with a force that they have never experienced before. And with that, welcome to this episode of Amy and TJ at breaking news update and overnight update about what happened or what has been happening in the war now between the US and Israel and Iran and Robes. That quote I just read. A lot of the folks might hear that and say, oh, that sounds like something Trump would have tweeted out, But actually that is coming to us now from the guy who is running Iran and Robes. There are some look, maybe we've used to hearing before, but some of the language coming from the top leadership is scary to.

00:00:53
Speaker 3: An American, Yes, including a declaration of open war on Americans basically, and israelis for killing the Supreme Leader. They want to avenge his death. They say, we have blood on our hands and they want.

00:01:11
Speaker 4: Us to pay.

00:01:12
Speaker 1: And so, folks, we're just going to hop on.

00:01:14
Speaker 2: We know there are a lot of places and a lot of information being put out there between what you're getting on cable networks, from the broadcast networks, social media of course, you're getting bombarded with all kinds of updates. So what we're doing here, folks, we are just going to give you a quick look. We want to call it cliff notes. Cliff notes, but just the significant updates that have taken place overnight, just to get you caught up this morning. A lot of people are getting up on a Sunday, so let's start with that in ropes. The big news yesterday. Of course a lot of people might not have seen official confirmation, but the Supreme leader of Irani is dead. We got that confirmation first from Israel, then got it from Trump, and now we're getting it, I guess from the folks that matter most.

00:01:53
Speaker 3: Yes, the Iranian state television did confirm that Haminai was killed from US and Israeli airstrikes, and the anchor actually was emotional cride in announcing this to Iran.

00:02:08
Speaker 1: And there is a state TV. We should say, hey, it's state TV.

00:02:11
Speaker 3: Of course they have a certain agenda, so to speak. But it has been fascinating to see the reaction, and it really is. There is a divide among the Muslims who are openly mourning the loss of their supreme leader. Look, thirty seven years in power. For some people, this is the only leader they have known. This is the only way of life they have recognized or been a part of. So this is scary and emotional and frightening stuff. And yes, we're seeing all of those emotions play out in the streets of Tehran and in surrounding areas. So there are celebrations going on and there are mass mourning going on.

00:02:49
Speaker 4: It's a tale of two cities.

00:02:52
Speaker 2: And you take that sometimes with a grain of salt. With demonstrations we've seen in support of the government in Iran, that's often taken as yeah, yeah, they have been organized and told to get out there and to have this type of show. But you have to at some point robe some of them. Sure, Like you just said, this is the only leader they've ever known. And the scary part now for a lot of them, even if you didn't like hamone, now what like who's going to be in charge? And there's so much uncertainty. So that is where we are. And look, well let's be straight here. We're only we're only on day two of this, so there's a lot still to figure out. And what's to figure out is the interim government. Now there is not necessarily a succession plan in place as far as us knowing who the next leader is going to be. But Robes, we are hearing at least from the Iranians that said today they will we will get something from them about who is going to be governing.

00:03:43
Speaker 3: Oh that's pretty remarkable. Yes, and the president will govern with the Council of Guardians.

00:03:48
Speaker 4: That's how they're describing.

00:03:49
Speaker 1: It, top clerics. So we're there, the Council of Guardians.

00:03:52
Speaker 3: But yeah, I was gonna say because Hamone wasn't the only obviously he was the big fish, he was the supreme leader. He was taken out, but so were so many members of the top leadership. So yes, this is not just about one man being taken out. These are several top clerics. Several leaders were also killed in those attacks.

00:04:12
Speaker 2: And it's worth noting that they announced that the president, along with the Council, will be the interim government. Significant there they seem to be confirming the president is okay, the president, there is a president of Iran who does more of the civic governing, if you will, But the Supreme Leader is the overall the hell, the name actually is pretty apt, Supreme Leader. He is in charge of everything there. So until they get another one of those folks in place, the president and this council are going to take care of the day to day governing roads. And some of these language we have used to we've come death to America. We've been hearing that our entire lives. Yeah, but still some of this rhetoric and some of the language coming out of some of the top officials in Iran still gives you pause.

00:04:54
Speaker 4: Yes, it does. It sends chills up and down your spine.

00:04:58
Speaker 3: Actually, so the top cleric Uh said this to the Iranian news agency. The people of Iran and the Islamic world thirst for revenge for the blood of the innocent, slain leader of the revolution. The main perpetrators of this crime are the arrogant US government and the malicious Zionist regime. And revenge is the religious duty of all Muslims worldwide to eradicate the evil of these criminals from the world.

00:05:25
Speaker 1: It's not like.

00:05:25
Speaker 2: Margin orders being given to folks all over the war to go out all over the world to go after in America, no matter where you find them.

00:05:31
Speaker 3: Yes, it's not only something that they're asking of fellow Muslims. They're saying it's the duty, it's the right and the duty of Muslim people to exact revenge for the death of their supreme leader.

00:05:44
Speaker 4: That is frightening rhetoric.

00:05:46
Speaker 3: And we have obviously it's been a while since we have had any sort of attack here. Just logistically speaking, we are protected by the Atlantic Ocean. But still this is frightening as Actually, I'm going to be honest here living in New York City, Yes, that is a scary thought about what may be coming or what could be coming.

00:06:08
Speaker 2: And we've seen right right robes over the years. When we're not at war, there are random attacks with people claiming to be doing the duty of some foreign foreign government.

00:06:19
Speaker 1: So look, we.

00:06:21
Speaker 2: Will be on edge, and a lot of people in a lot of places will be on edge. Well, I didn't see the pictures I saw some of the day before, But did you see the ones overnight of more demonstrations here in New York as well?

00:06:29
Speaker 3: Yeah, in Times Square, correct, there were folks who were out there demonstrating the United States decision to go not only attack Iran, but take out the Supreme leader. Yes, and you can only imagine there will be many more to come.

00:06:41
Speaker 2: And we also we just read that one comment from a cleric essentially activating folks around the world saying Muslims have a duty. But this next one robes. This came to us on x this was put out. And the reason this one is so significant robes, Yes, because of the language, but also because of who sent this one out. This is a guy who is widely seen as the I guess he was the top advisor to Hamane and the guy who was kind of put in charge of getting things in order if there are assassinations, if there are a war that's launched. But his comments, you don't know his name, folks, a lot of us not that familiar.

00:07:17
Speaker 1: But this is the name you're going to be hearing plenty.

00:07:19
Speaker 3: You asked me if I had heard of Ali Larajani, and the truth is no, I haven't. But you said to me, you will be quite a bit now, because yes, he is taking over at least a lot of this rhetoric and disseminating some of this information. But he said, yesterday Iran fired missiles at the United States and Israel and they did hurt. Today we will hit them with the force that they have never experienced before.

00:07:43
Speaker 4: That does sound Trump.

00:07:44
Speaker 2: Esque, and Trump matched rhetoric with him. So after that came out on X now you have the President of the United States on social media, these are changed, are exchanging?

00:07:56
Speaker 1: Then they uhoul to do this behind the scenes diplomatically and I would.

00:07:58
Speaker 3: Just do it on I don't know though, because you think about that diplomatically.

00:08:02
Speaker 4: Were they this extreme in their rhetoric.

00:08:05
Speaker 3: It's interesting if you think about two people actually having to talk with one another, or at least talk to each other's main folks. Was this type of language used or is this more to rally the base, to create US versus them mentality with the folks. Either you're trying to make afraid or the folks you're trying to basically inspire to do your bidding.

00:08:29
Speaker 4: But yes, this is what Trump said back.

00:08:31
Speaker 3: Iran just stated that they are going to hit very hard today, harder than they have ever hit before.

00:08:36
Speaker 4: He puts this next line in all caps.

00:08:38
Speaker 3: They better not do that, however, because if they do, we will hit them with the force that has never been seen before. Exclamation point. Thank you for your attention to this matter, President Donald J.

00:08:49
Speaker 1: Trump.

00:08:49
Speaker 2: What do you do That's that sounds it sounds like I don't want to say empty because these guys do have arsenals at their disposal.

00:08:56
Speaker 1: But it almost sounds like kids on the playground, thank you.

00:09:00
Speaker 2: Like my ego is, yeah, you said you're gonna do that, but just wait till us you see what I do. It's bizarre language. It's typical, I guess from President Trump.

00:09:08
Speaker 1: We're used to it.

00:09:08
Speaker 2: But on a stage when the folks are dying and bombs are exploding and smoke is going up in the air, these two the language, it is what it is.

00:09:18
Speaker 1: I don't know.

00:09:18
Speaker 2: Maybe some people don't have a problem with it. Now, let's go beyond the war of words to the actual war. The significant robes we're starting to see now from the capital, major explosions, this would represent an escalation. This is a popular set, popular populus area.

00:09:35
Speaker 1: So there is concern.

00:09:36
Speaker 2: Now are they going to start targeting the potential there I guess robes for more damage, more death if you're now trying to target in such a populous area as the capital.

00:09:47
Speaker 4: Look.

00:09:47
Speaker 3: Yes, President Trump had said initially that we were going after military targets. We are going to eradicate their navy, take out their top military leaders.

00:09:56
Speaker 4: Obviously military installations.

00:09:58
Speaker 3: Are the targets, but did warn there would be civilian casualties, there could be American casualties, and certainly, yes, Tehran, I've never been, but I can see the pictures and just with smoke rising, clearly this is a deep concern for anyone who lives in the area. And look, the United States did warn residents, please stay inside. It is going to be dangerous for you to leave your homes. But frankly, it could be dangerous to be inside your homes at this point if you live near some sort of military operation, that would be deeply, deeply concerning.

00:10:29
Speaker 2: They're warning, yes, as you said, Iranians, to stay inside, to seek shelter, but we should alert you. I'll let you know as well that they are also giving those alerts to diplomats Americans in the region where Iran has now fired hundreds of drones and missiles towards their neighbors that have been supportive of the US at least in terms of US bases or in those places. So diplomats are being told to shelter in place for a second straight day now. Those the sirens continue to go off in Israel, those bombs siring to hear in explosions overhead because so much of the defense system of Israel is able to take out so many of those missiles. So again it's still early. We don't have robes. I certainly haven't seen through all the coverage. We are looking at very good damage assessments or death assessments at this point because we are just twenty four hours really into this, but not a lot of that coming out just yet. If you have seen please I don't have it, so if you have some other updates there but all means passed them along. But we are getting information about deaths here and there, but for the most part, as just so early and right now, there's no internet in Iran right now, so it's hard to get a lot of information out. So this is where we are twenty four hours later.

00:11:42
Speaker 3: Yeah, when you hear that the Iran State is our news agency is releasing certain information, obviously we can't take it for it for just their word. So there are right now independent organizations including the United States and Israel, and several news organizations on the ground trying to get information about what may happening with a specific situation with a girls school in Iran.

00:12:04
Speaker 2: We have to give you that update. We definitely will because there's back and forth about what actually happened at this girl's school. But if some of the initial reports are true, this is a devastating miss if you will and mistake, and some will tell you it's just sometimes part of war.

00:12:21
Speaker 1: Will explain that.

00:12:22
Speaker 2: Also need to give you an update about death taking place at a US embassy, but not necessarily in the immediate region. Also, Congress is getting involved, might be doing some work on this tomorrow. And we'll leave you with the words from the Pope. He did make a comment about what we're seeing in this conflicts there. All right, we'll continue here on this Sunday, March first, just giving you a quick update about the latest of what we're seeing in twenty four hours to this latest war. Israel and the United States to launch massive attack on Iran and they have been retaliating robes. Let's get with the latest on this girls school. We saw these these were early initial reports that a girls school there in Iran had been hit in some of the Israeli US air strikes. But rose we're starting to get more information and it's coming from Iran right now.

00:13:24
Speaker 1: But if some of these reports are true, this is devastating.

00:13:26
Speaker 4: Yes, it actually it's so heartbreaking.

00:13:29
Speaker 3: There are now some videos being shown out there, but again these are tough areas to get into and tough reports to confirm.

00:13:38
Speaker 4: But according to Iran, nearly one hundred.

00:13:41
Speaker 3: And fifty are dead after one of our air strikes hit a they claim a all girls elementary school.

00:13:51
Speaker 4: And this school is and.

00:13:53
Speaker 3: They have confirmed it several news outlets, very close to a military base. In fact, there are reports that it was once a part art of the military base. It was separated about ten years ago, but that's how close it is. So if the US and Israel, yes, we're targeting a military base, it does seem very likely impossible that this would have been a part of that strike. And they have shown some videos already of backpacks with blood on them. So just trying to say, yes, young girls, hundreds of them, or at least more than one hundred of them, have been killed in this air strike. Malala Usafzai, who is a prominent girl's advocate for and of course, if you don't know her story, she was shot by the Taliban for going to school. She's been outspoken about girls' rights and the need to have safe spaces for girls to go to school. She has already spoken out and condemned this attack, but we don't have official confirmation from US or Israeli sources that this in fact did happen and the casualties were as high as they are.

00:14:53
Speaker 4: Claiming to be.

00:14:54
Speaker 2: Obviously caution because of the propaganda that Iran has been known for, but still we have this happened in war before. Also, need to mention was happening in Pakistan US embassy there in Karachi. Protesters, demonstrators gathered there after Hamani's death. Again, they're in protests of his death, mourning his death, upset with the United States, and they had clashes there and those number of deaths kept going up between police and those protesters. I think it's up to nine now. But this is again not happening in the region. Has nothing to do with air strikes, but having to do still with this whole conflict. Congress, we're shut down, all right. We're still in the shutdown, by the way, and they're.

00:15:37
Speaker 4: Taking this time.

00:15:38
Speaker 3: Have you not seen the reports from the Republicans saying, hey, maybe we should go ahead and fund the Department of Homeland Security now that.

00:15:48
Speaker 4: We've just engaged with the war in a war with Iran.

00:15:51
Speaker 3: It does seem absolutely ludicrous that we would have an unfunded Department of Homeland Security at the exact same moment we choose to go to war.

00:16:01
Speaker 4: That makes zero sense.

00:16:03
Speaker 3: And so yes, we're now here in Republicans saying guys, let's go ahead and fund the department.

00:16:08
Speaker 4: We might need some cash.

00:16:10
Speaker 2: Well, I didn't put it in the context you just gave it, which was a cynical, sarcastic one, But that is the exact way to put it. It's called the Department of Homeland Security. We kind of need it. Excuse me. Even if you don't want the Department, I want something called homeland Security looking out for me right.

00:16:27
Speaker 3: Now, especially when you have Muslim clerics calling on all Muslims around the world to retaliate against the United States of America.

00:16:37
Speaker 2: Oh yeah, TSA not getting paid. That's really going to motivate them to make sure nothing the fairius gets on this plane. No, all this stuff comes together and it's foolishness. This is you put it now. I was fine. Now you just got me worked up. But Congress is trying to now to that point. But they're also trying to come back and vote on a war powers act that would limit the president and what he's able to do and to limit his ability to to to continue with this war even.

00:17:06
Speaker 3: But they they keep saying this after the fact, there's it's already been done, like you can't you can't take it back, So now you've got to follow through this. It makes no sense to this is politics because if they were serious about it before, after what we saw in Venezuela, they would have done something or they would have pushed for something. Now we have the situation in Iran. Now you're going to call for it again. That makes no sense.

00:17:30
Speaker 1: I should benda that.

00:17:31
Speaker 2: I think I kind of skipped over it, but there were there are folks along the lines of have it down there at the bottom. But we did hear from Vladimir Putin and from China, the Chinese. You could probably expect what they heard. I guess you could summarize or you could guess what they're going to say. But this was still kind of I shouldn't say. It makes you chuckle, but it's what's to be expected.

00:17:54
Speaker 3: Yes, well, I mean you do see how Putin praised haminae yes, yes, so look that you can take it for what it is worth.

00:18:00
Speaker 4: When you consider that. But Putin said.

00:18:02
Speaker 3: That this was a violation of all norms of human morality and international law. Again coming from the man who is now in his fifth war with Ukraine after invading said country.

00:18:14
Speaker 2: Okay, again, not that there is anything funny about any of this, But if there's anything that makes.

00:18:19
Speaker 1: You chuckle, it's that it's ironic. It's that line ironic.

00:18:22
Speaker 4: Maybe let's go with that.

00:18:23
Speaker 3: China said the international community should speak in a clear and unequivocal voice opposing the world regressing to the law of the jungle.

00:18:33
Speaker 1: That's where we are. But let's end with the Pope, shall we.

00:18:35
Speaker 4: Yes, that's a really good way to end on a Sunday, as saying.

00:18:38
Speaker 1: With the American Pope.

00:18:39
Speaker 2: He did make comments about this, and this is what you could be expected, I guess from a religious leader. But something about it gave me call.

00:18:48
Speaker 3: Yeah, and the fact that he's American. I do think that that does add something to it. But the Pope said, faced with the possibility of a tragedy of enormous proportions, I make a heartfelt appeal to the parties involved to assume their moral responsibility to stop the spiral of violence before it becomes an irreparable abyss. May diplomacy regain its role and promote the good of peoples who yearn for peaceful coexistence based on justice, and let us continue to pray for peace.

00:19:19
Speaker 2: Don't we all just yearn for peaceful coexistence based on justice? That's all I want to live with you. I just want the rules to be fair, that's all.

00:19:27
Speaker 4: Problem is, there are too many people who want to be.

00:19:29
Speaker 3: In power and control all of those said people and to coexist with folks who don't want anything more than power. It's a tough and people could say the same thing about the United States. I'm not pointing the finger at anyone country. It's just it's difficult. That is Yes, that is the goal. Yes, I wish we could all be like that. Unfortunately it isn't reality.

00:19:50
Speaker 2: Well, folks, wherever you are, I hope you're having a good win today and please contribute to something positive in the world today that we keep hopping on. We didn't actually want to. We were trying to find a way to not do this episode, but it was necessary because it's news. But we're trying to find just something a little a palate cleanser, if you will.

00:20:07
Speaker 1: But just this is what's happening. This is what we have to talk about.

00:20:11
Speaker 2: And if you can contribute to this in any way, folks, it's by being kind to a neighbor, to somebody, to a stranger today and that's the best we can do. Robes, just to put something else out into the world.

00:20:23
Speaker 3: I agree, and maybe you know, it's even to the point where I feel like this US versus them mentality within the United States and then now around.

00:20:29
Speaker 4: The world, it's tough. I would say, like I would.

00:20:32
Speaker 3: Challenge myself and others be kind to someone who doesn't look like you, who doesn't talk like you, who doesn't think the same things you do.

00:20:41
Speaker 4: That is the challenge.

00:20:43
Speaker 3: Right then we were given opportunities to do that every day. Maybe we can take this situation and try to apply some of that to our own lives. But thank you, as always everyone for listening to us on this Sunday morning. I made me roboch alongside TJ.

00:20:56
Speaker 4: Holmes. We'll talk to you soon.

00:21:00
Speaker 2: The Patented the TA shops, the patent
