Speaker 2: It's a very cool story. But let's get going on this morning run. And we begin the run by continuing our morning run series something we like to call hoodne gone and sued Trump. Now today it's Washington, d C. Yes, the US capital city has now sued the US president.

Speaker 1: Yep. The city, in a lawsuit filed yesterday, accuses the Trump administration of violating federal law when he ordered National Guard troops to patrol the city. The suit also claims Guard troops have been performing police duties, patrolling, doing searches, even making arrest and it warns it's DC today, but it could be any other city tomorrow. We filed this action to put an end to this illegal federal overreach.

Speaker 2: Of course, National Guard troops have been in DC since the week of August eleventh, when the President initiated a federal takeover of the city, saying it was necessary to cut down on crime. In response to the lawsuit, the White House said the President had the right to do this and call the lawsuit an attempt to undermine the President's highly successful operations to stop violent crime in DC.

Speaker 1: And that's really all you have to say, just that one name, and you automatically and immediately think high fashion. Well, the fashion world is mourning the loss today of a true icon. Designer Giorgio Armani has passed away at the age of ninety one.

Speaker 2: Yes Famili said he died peacefully at home in Milan, surrounded by family, and added indefatigable to the final, to the end, I should say indefatigable to the end. He worked until his final days, dedicating himself to the company, the collections, and the many ongoing and future projects. Harmani had missed the summer's Milan fashion show. This was the first time in his career he had missed it, and he was also set. Fifty anniversary celebration of Armani was coming up this month.

Speaker 1: Oh, I'm sure a lot of tributes will be pouring in for that celebration. Armani became synonymous with high fashion as well as casual elegance. His deconstructed, un lined suit created a relaxed, flowing look that became all the rage. There will be a public viewing in Milan this weekend before a private funeral.

I had no idea that this guy has twenty restaurants, two hotels, he owns a basketball team, and in Italy he has bars. So his reach, it allowed him, his empire, allowed him to build in things outside of fashion. This was so cool. I didn't know about the suit either. I didn't know he was given credit.

We continue on the run here now with the federal government going after a California utility company, claiming the company is directly responsible for one of the deadliest and destructive wildfires in the LA area this year. The government issuing Southern California Edison for allegedly starting the Eton Fire. It was one of a series of fires that devastated southern California in January.

Speaker 1: The suit states that Edison's negligence is the only reason the fire started, blaming the company's improper equipment, maintenance, and faulty equipment. The government is seeking seventy seven million dollars in damages.

Speaker 1: Nineteen people died in the Eaten Fire and ten thousand structures were destroyed. Southern California ye Edison said it is reviewing the lawsuit.

Speaker 2: Continuing on the run now with an update on President Biden's health. The former president recently had surgery to remove cancerous cells from his skin. He was spotted recently with a pretty good sized scar and bandage on his head.

Speaker 1: The former president underwent what's called Moe's surgery, which is a process of removing layers of skin tissue. He underwent something similar in twenty twenty three during his term, and this news all comes after Biden announced earlier this year he had an aggressive form of prostate cancer that has spread to his bonds.

Speaker 2: By continuing on the run, now we'll mention President Biden again. His administration created a rule in which airlines would have to give cash compensation to passengers for flight disruptions that were caused by the airline. Sounds like a good rule, sounds like something that airline passengers would love. Well, President Trump just did away with it.

Speaker 1: The rule was never implemented, but it would have required airlines to compensate passengers with up to seven hundred and fifty bucks for some of the worst delays, as well as cover meals and lodging. But the Trump administration is now said never mind. Biden put the rule in place in the closing weeks of his administration, so it was up to Trump to actually implement it, and he has chosen not to do.

Speaker 2: Yes, this is kind of in the deregulation mindset. We don't want to put more rules on big time companies, so this is in line with the president's thinking well, continue on the run now with the dust Justice Department, they now opened a criminal a criminal investigation into Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook. They fired the lady. Now a criminal investigation, the DOJ has issued subpoenas after the Trump administration alleged that Cook engaged in mortgage fraud, focusing on her properties in Michigan and Atlanta, saying she had designated both of her homes as her primary residence, which is something you're not supposed to do, but by doing so, this could have given her some more favorable interest rates on her mortgage. So they are saying she intentionally tried to gain the system.

Speaker 1: Right exactly, and Cook has denied all wrongdoing and the investigation. The criminal and investigation comes after Trump used those fraud allegations as the reason why he wants to fire Cook, which would then allow him to replace her on the Fed Reserve Board. So the Federal Reserve Act only allows the President to fire Fed governors for cause. Yeah.

Speaker 2: Cook responded by filing a lawsuit claiming Trump moved to her or his move to fire her is illegal and an attempt to fill the board with a majority of his appointees, so he can forward his agenda to undermine the independence of the Federal Reserve. Another way to put that is so he can get the Board to do what he wants it to do when it comes to interest rate cuts.

Speaker 1: Yes, so Cook's atorneys have responded to this now criminal investigation, saying the questions over how Governor Cook described her properties from time to time are not fraud. But it takes nothing for this DOJ to undertake a new politicized investigation, and they appear to have just done it again now. Just last week, the administration further alleged that Cook has made multiple false representations, including listing an apartment in Massachusetts as both an investment property and a second home. Oh my god.

Speaker 2: Well, right now, a judge is considering Cook's request for an emergency order to stop her from being removed from the FED Board. While the case moves through the courts, the FED to the next meeting set for September sixteenth. Last month, as Trump talked to reporters about his effort to fire Cook, he said, we'll have a majority shortly, and all this is going on, she's trying to hold on to her job. He has already nominated somebody else and is going through the nomination process and was going on just yesterday, so he is moving forward, all right.

Speaker 1: Next up on the run, the US Department of Defense is getting a name change. President Trump has been talking about this for weeks. Today he will sign that executive order to change the name to the Department of War, or perhaps we should just say change it back to the Department of.

Speaker 2: War, because that was its original name when it was first created back in seventeen eighty nine, but it was changed to the Department of Defense by an Act of Congress in the late nineteen forty. So here's the thing. It'll likely take another Act of Congress to officially change change the name to Department of War, because Trump's executive order calls on, yes, the Department of War to be the secondary title, since the President can't officially change the name of a cabinet level department of the US government with just a stroke of his pen. So he's telling everybody call it this. I'm telling you all to call it this.

Speaker 1: So yes, the administration will start the process of changing their signage and websites and business cards and all that. The order instructs Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth to proposed legislative action in order to change the name permanently and officially.

Speaker 2: He also is now going to be called the Secretary of War. All right, all right? Next up on the run, next leg takes us to Massachusetts. It turns out that video of an armed gunman on the first day of classes at UMass Lowell was actually a juvenile holding a fake gun. Students of faculty were given a shelter in place order, and classes were ultimately canceled. Authorities rushed to the scene this week.

Speaker 1: Yeah, Local and state police, along with the FBI and the ATF all responded to campus after multiple reports and videos of a person with a long weapon were authenticated. So officers campus the campus in search of this suspect, described as a five foot five Asian male, with drones, canine units, and a helicopter. Lowell police say at one point in their search they recovered the weapon, which turned out to be an air soft replica firearms.

Speaker 2: Okay, they didn't give a lot of details here about who this kid was, what was going on, didn't even give his age, didn't say how they were able to identify them. We don't know if there are going to be any charges filed either. Loyal Police released the statement saying, while the reported firearm in this case was ultimately determined to be an airsoft gun, our community can be certain that, as in this case, the Loyal Police Department will always utilize all available resources until the safety of all involved is assured. Two of the all time grapes, absolutely legendary boxers in the history of the sport, are going to fight each other. One of them is forty eight years old, the other is fifty nine.

Speaker 1: Floyd Mayweather and Mike Tyson have agreed to an exhibition fight to take place next spring. Mayweather finished his storied career undefeated, but has not fought professionally since twenty seventeen. He's done several exhibition fights in recent years. Tyson, meanwhile, fought in an exhibition against Jake Paul last November. Remember that, well, it was a match that was the most streamed sporting event ever.

Speaker 2: Yeah, Iron Mike lost that match by unanimous decision. Now we should know Tyson and Mayweather, they did not fight in the same weight class. Tyson was a heavy Mayweather fought in several weight classes, but much lighter, so there is about a seventy pound weight difference. How does that work between these two dudes. There's a ten year age gap between these two dudes, and I'd say, I don't know how to feel about it. I love, love, love both of these guys. I don't want to see Tyson get hit ever again, because after that, he's fifty nine and just just at times you don't feel like he's strong. You look like any moment he could get hurt, like some serious damage could be done to him. I love Mike Tyson, and I do not want him to get in another ring.

Next up on the run, an eventful opening night for the NFL season, highlighted by a spitting incident and a lightning delay. The Dallas Cowboys were visiting the Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles, but after opening kickoff just six seconds into the game, before a play was ever run from scrimmage, Eagles defensive lineman Jalen Carter was ejected again.

Speaker 2: How do you get kicked out of a game when the game isn't even going on? But that's what happened because he was seen clearly spitting on Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott. Now we had to suffer through seeing the replay over and over and now he didn't Okay, he didn't hawk up Alogie, but he spit on You could see it clearly. The game finally did get going, and when it did, there was a lightning delay. Lightning in the area forced them to evacuate the stadium. They had to stop the game for an hour. So kind of an eventful in a way you don't want it to be eventful start. The Eagles eventually won the game twenty four to twenty. So the NFL season is off and running.

Speaker 1: Next up on the Run, Darth Vader's lightsaber is now the most expensive piece of Star Wars memorabilia ever sold at auction. The saber, which by the way, is not a working lightsaber, was used by Vader in Empire Strike Back and Return of the Jedi in those iconic fight scenes between Vader and Luke Skywalker.

Speaker 2: So this thing sold four to three point six million dollars. The starting bid was five hundred thousand dollars, so it ultimately goes for some six times the amount. Is the only lightsaber from the original trilogy to ever be auctioned, and it's not exactly in mint condition. You can tell it's been used maybe in some fights. But it has scratches and some chips, some chip paint on it, but that is we don't know who bought.

For the final leg of our run and my favorite story of the morning, we head to Japan because the Guinness Book of World Records has officially recognized one hundred and two year old Kokichi Akuzawa as the oldest person to summit Mount Fuji and get whose record he beat his own. Six years ago, Akuzawa became the oldest person to some at Japan's highest peak at the age of ninety six.

Speaker 2: So what makes last month's achievement even more impressive is not just that he's one hundred and two, but that in the six years since his last record breaking summit, he overcame heart issues, shingles, and an injury from a climbing fall. So a ninety six year old recovered, yes, so he could climb a mountain now. He said he was tempted this time around to give up halfway through, but it was his family and friend who encourage him to keep going. He did summit the mountain alongside his seventy year old daughter, his granddaughter, her husband, and four friends from a local mountain climbing club. That's cool.

They spent two nights on the mountain before reaching the top, which is, by the way, twelve three hundred and eighty eight feet. Akuzawa said, I've never felt this week. The suit also claims Guard troops have been performing police duties, patrolling, doing searches, even making arrest and it warns it's DC today, but it could be any other city tomorrow. We filed this action to put an end to this illegal federal overreach.

His administration created a rule in which airlines would have to give cash compensation to passengers for flight disruptions that were caused by the airline. Sounds like a good rule, sounds like something that airline passengers would love. Well, President Trump just did away with it.

Speaker 1: The rule was never implemented, but it would have required airlines to compensate passengers with up to seven hundred and fifty bucks for some of the worst delays, as well as cover meals and lodging. But the Trump administration is now said never mind. Biden put the rule in place in the closing weeks of his administration, so it was up to Trump to actually implement it, and he has chosen not to do.

Speaker 2: Yes, this is kind of in the deregulation mindset. We don't want to put more rules on big time companies, so this is in line with the president's thinking well, continue on the run now with the dust Justice Department, they now opened a criminal a criminal investigation into Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook. They fired the lady. Now a criminal investigation, the DOJ has issued subpoenas after the Trump administration alleged that Cook engaged in mortgage fraud, focusing on her properties in Michigan and Atlanta, saying she had designated both of her homes as her primary residence, which is something you're not supposed to do, but by doing so, this could have given her some more favorable interest rates on her mortgage. So they are saying she intentionally tried to gain the system.

The criminal and investigation comes after Trump used those fraud allegations as the reason why he wants to fire Cook, which would then allow him to replace her on the Fed Reserve Board. Speaker 2: Cook responded by filing a lawsuit claiming Trump moved to her or his move to fire her is illegal and an attempt to fill the board with a majority of his appointees, so he can forward his agenda to undermine the independence of the Federal Reserve. Another way to put that is so he can get the Board to do what he wants it to do when it comes to interest rate cuts.

Speaker 1: Yes, so Cook's atorneys have responded to this now criminal investigation, saying the questions over how Governor Cook described her properties from time to time are not fraud. But it takes nothing for this DOJ to undertake a new politicized investigation, and they appear to have just done it again now. Just last week, the administration further alleged that Cook has made multiple false representations, including listing an apartment in Massachusetts as both an investment property and a second home. Oh my god.

Speaker 2: Well, right now, a judge is considering Cook's request for an emergency order to stop her from being removed from the FED Board. While the case moves through the courts, the FED to the next meeting set for September sixteenth. Last month, as Trump talked to reporters about his effort to fire Cook, he said, we'll have a majority shortly, and all this is going on, she's trying to hold on to her job. He has already nominated somebody else and is going through the nomination process and was going on just yesterday, so he is moving forward, all right.

Speaker 1: Next up on the run, the US Department of Defense is getting a name change. President Trump has been talking about this for weeks. Today he will sign that executive order to change the name to the Department of War, or perhaps we should just say change it back to the Department of.

So here's the thing. It turns out that video of an armed gunman on the first day of classes at UMass Lowell was actually a juvenile holding a fake gun. Now we had to suffer through seeing the replay over and over and now he didn't Okay, he didn't hawk up Alogie, but he spit on You could see it clearly. The game finally did get going, and when it did, there was a lightning delay. Lightning in the area forced them to evacuate the stadium. They had to stop the game for an hour. So kind of an eventful in a way you don't want it to be eventful start. The Eagles eventually won the game twenty four to twenty. So the NFL season is off and running.

Speaker 1: Next up on the Run, Darth Vader's lightsaber is now the most expensive piece of Star Wars memorabilia ever sold at auction. The saber, which by the way, is not a working lightsaber, was used by Vader in Empire Strike Back and Return of the Jedi in those iconic fight scenes between Vader and Luke Skywalker.

Speaker 2: So this thing sold four to three point six million dollars. The starting bid was five hundred thousand dollars, so it ultimately goes for some six times the amount. Is the only lightsaber from the original trilogy to ever be auctioned, and it's not exactly in mint condition. You can tell it's been used maybe in some fights. But it has scratches and some chips, some chip paint on it, but that is we don't know who bought.

For the final leg of our run and my favorite story of the morning, we head to Japan because the Guinness Book of World Records has officially recognized one hundred and two year old Kokichi Akuzawa as the oldest person to summit Mount Fuji and get whose record he beat his own. Six years ago, Akuzawa became the oldest person to some at Japan's highest peak at the age of ninety six.

Speaker 2: So what makes last month's achievement even more impressive is not just that he's one hundred and two, but that in the six years since his last record breaking summit, he overcame heart issues, shingles, and an injury from a climbing fall. So a ninety six year old recovered, yes, so he could climb a mountain now. He said he was tempted this time around to give up halfway through, but it was his family and friend who encourage him to keep going. He did summit the mountain alongside his seventy year old daughter, his granddaughter, her husband, and four friends from a local mountain climbing club. That's cool.

They spent two nights on the mountain before reaching the top, which is, by the way, twelve three hundred and eighty eight feet. Akuzawa said, I've never felt this week. Speaker 1: But we ended up having to get oxygen for him to make it up to the top of the mountain. So to think of a fifty something year old, fairly fit guy having a problem getting up there. It took us two days to get up. This one hundred and two year old man did it. I wouldn't say effortlessly, but he made it.
