Speaker 1: Morning Run with Amy and TJ and iHeartRadio Podcast. Good morning, everyone, Welcome to your Thursday Morning Ron. It's Thursday, April twenty third.
00:00:11
Speaker 2: I'm Amy Robock, two thursdays in there.
00:00:14
Speaker 1: Just wanted to make everyone recognize that it is hell, yes, Friday Eve all right, Hey that everybody.
00:00:19
Speaker 2: I'm TJ. Holmes and this is Thursday. If we hadn't told you yet. And on this Thursday Run, we got a lot of stops to make, including at the Straight or four Moves. We're gonna stop at the Pentagon, We're gonna stop in the Los Angeles Courtroom, gonna make a stop over in Virginia, and also in Pittsburgh this evening. But let's start on this Thursday robes with a lot of developments. But I don't know how far it's getting us with this warn iron.
00:00:43
Speaker 1: Yes, more confusing, conflicting headlines coming out of Iran. And we'll begin with one of the knowns, the costs of this war. Oil prices have once again gone above one hundred dollars a barrel. And as you might imagine, when we see oil go up, what do we see go down?
00:01:00
Speaker 2: Stocks?
00:01:00
Speaker 1: Yes, they are also headed downward.
00:01:02
Speaker 2: This morning also maybe heading downward hopes of a quick resolution to this war, because now Iran has seized a couple of tankers near the Strait of Horror Moves and as of now, there are no further peace negotiations scheduled. This is where we are as of now, But just wait twenty minutes and it'll change again.
00:01:22
Speaker 1: But we do have some good news. We're not shooting at each other some Okay, that is a huge sumthing. The ceasefire is still in place, and President Trump has not set another deadline for when a deal must be done. So we're in I guess what you could call an indefinite ceasefire, which I guess that's a better place to be than in an indefinite war.
00:01:42
Speaker 2: Why you didn't give a deadline, and the deadlines usually come with do this by this time or else. Yes, but you didn't get that, So maybe this is all positive. Continuing on the run here now, another top Pentagon official has been fired. This time it's the Navy Secretary John Fhalan.
00:01:58
Speaker 1: Yes, at the time of a major naval blockade. Yes, the man in charge of the Navy was just fired. The President and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth were reportedly in agreement that new leadership was needed.
00:02:12
Speaker 2: And this comes at a time when several other top leaders at the Pentagon, including the Army Chief of Staff, he was just let go not too long ago, and three other top Pentagon leaders were let go in that same string. So he just seems odd roads at a time where there is war and these top generals and leaders would be you know, needed, and.
00:02:31
Speaker 1: At a time we're in war. It should have been noted that we're still unfunding or not funding the Department of Homeland Security. You know, there's a lot of head scratchers out there in our government right now.
00:02:41
Speaker 2: Shutdowns going on so long. I forgot we're in a shutdown. Yeah, because they're getting paid. But they say that this money is not.
00:02:46
Speaker 1: Going to be eergency funding is going to run out around there.
00:02:49
Speaker 2: We go, all right, continuing on the run here. Now Democrats want to give cash Betel a breathalyzer test. I say, kind of sort of, but yeah, kind of sort of ropes.
00:02:58
Speaker 1: This is fairly remarkable. Members of the House Judiciary Committee are demanding that Patel submit to an alcohol use screening and want him to come before Congress to publicly answer questions. This is all in the fallout of that Atlantic article where we have a reporter there who says she has sourced double source and in one case even had nine sources confirming that Patel has been intoxicated on the job, has been unavailable at crucial periods of time where the FBI has even had to purchase equipment to break down his door when they needed to get a hold of him, and he was, they claimed, passed out from a heavy night of partying.
00:03:40
Speaker 2: Yeah, so he has sued. He did file a defamation suit against the Atlantantic for two hundred and fifty million dollars. But Democrats, this is what they're asking for a rogues. I hadn't heard of this thing before now. But it's a ten question test called the AUDIT and that stands for Alcohol use Disorders identification Tests. They say it's the goal old standard for treating people who might have harmful patterns or dangerous drinking behaviors. They've given him until the end of day next Tuesday to fill out the questionnaire or else, we don't know, but they've given him that deadline.
00:04:14
Speaker 1: Okay, Well, if obviously you can just fill out the questionnaire to make it look like you're not addicted to alcohol, So it's not like he if he even did take it, which I highly doubt he will. Why wouldn't he just go ahead and answer it the way he knows he's supposed to.
00:04:27
Speaker 2: How often do you have a drink containing alcohol? Never? Monthly, two to four times. It seemed like something the doctor. I just pulled it. I hadn't seen it before this moment. How often do you have six or more drinks on one occasion? Never less than monthly, monthly, weekly, So it gets kind of specific heroes that would be an indicator maybe.
00:04:45
Speaker 1: But he's just gonna say that he doesn't do any of those things.
00:04:49
Speaker 2: How often during the last year have you had a feeling of guilt or remorse after drinking? Never?
00:04:56
Speaker 1: So the question just honestly, this is just for This doesn't actually amount to anything scientific or anything that they could point to the directory, and he's not going to do it. Political theater continues, all right. Next up on the Run, Singer David is expected in court today later this morning for a preliminary court hearing. He's been charged with murder in the death of fourteen year old Celestri Vus Hernandez, who's dismembered and decomposing body was found in the trunk of his abandoned car last September.
00:05:27
Speaker 2: Yeah, David, whose real name is David Anthony Burke, has pleaded not guilty, and the medical examiner report was finally released yesterday. Roat this young lady. We found out about her death last September, but yesterday for the first time, we were hearing what her cause of death was. And yes, wrote this was not an accident. They said she had multiple penetrating wounds, is how they put it. But she was essentially stabbed with something sharp.
00:05:52
Speaker 1: Yes, And the family put out a statement about Celeste because look, we've talked so much about David singer David, but this was a young girl whose family deeply misses her. So they put this out, this statement out. Celeste was a beautiful, strong girl who loved to sing and dance. Every Friday night was movie night, and we spent wonderful times together. We love her very much, and she always told us that she loved us. We miss her deeply. All we want is justice for Celeste, they said. Hearing the autopsy report was incredibly devastating. They called it gruesome and horrific and just I can't imagine having to read and just process those details of how their beautiful young daughter was brutally murdered. So yes, we will keep our eye on that hearing that takes place I believe at eight thirty am local time there in California eleven thirty am Eastern time. And if you want to know more about the autopsy report and all of the information that came out yesterday, please check out our episode just a few behind this. We recorded it first thing this morning, so if you want to learn more, please check that out on our feet, all.
00:06:57
Speaker 2: Right, continue going on the run. Now, the next leg takes us to virgin where what was the point of all of that? Virginia just voted and approved a referendum to redraw that state's congressional map that was on Tuesday.
00:07:11
Speaker 1: On Wednesday, a judge halted certification of the vote and said the redistricting referendum itself was a violation of the state constitution. The judge even questioned the language used in presenting the referendum to the voters, calling it flagrantly misleading. So what happens now?
00:07:29
Speaker 2: No state says they're going to appeal, and but they're going to have to get another court ruling robes that overturns this judge's decision, or they're not going to have the new map to give them an advantage in this year's midterm robes. This is set off. This it's it is, it's silly. And adding to all this now and all the fight over the midterms, we have seen a couple of members of Congress resign here in the past two weeks and now robes. Unfortunately, we had a member of Congress die. Long time Georgia Congressman David Scott has died at the age of eighty. He was first elected in two thousand and two. He was in the midst of running for re election for a thirteenth term. He had been in some declining health. Folks, that talk is just it was not it's not mean to say he lost the step and we saw it publicly over the last couple of years. They have been even begging him to not run, to get out of the race. Unfortunately, he has passed. They haven't given the cause of death. But this now rope sets up. Now they're down another vote, They're down another seat in Congress for the time being, at least Democrats.
00:08:35
Speaker 1: Right, So one Republican resigned, of course, that was Swallwell and the Democrat, sorry Democrat. Then you had Goal Gonzalez, Sorry is the Republican who resigned? Then you have Cheffleer Cheferlis what's her last name? She just resigned, she resigned Democrat? And now you have a death of a Democrat. So you're down three Democrats, down one Republican?
00:08:54
Speaker 2: Is this not? These are the numbers that they're keeping up with. Well, stay with us on this Friday. E Yes, Ron Vrabel coach Mike Rabel, Yes, that one. He is talking again and explaining why he is going to miss a good chunk of his team's NFL draft this weekend. We'll explain. Also, Rose has been hooting and hollering about this story all morning. Yay, coffee drinkers, you got another study saying coffee is good for you? Who who? Continuing on this Thursday morning, Ron, New England Patriots head coach Mike Rabel is seeking counseling and is going to skip Day three of the NFL Draft, which starts tonight in Pittsburgh. The married father of two. Earlier this week, address photos published of him an NFL reporter Diana Russini. Everybody seeing these pictures, at least by now clearly it was something a little more than a professional relationship going on buying Diana Russini, who did work for the Athletic which is the sports division of the New York Times. She has already resigned her position, that's right.
00:10:03
Speaker 1: So Rabel had spoken earlier this week on Tuesday, basically just saying that every conversation he had, difficult conversation he had was going to remain private and with his family and with his team. But this was a little bit of a surprise. Yesterday he spoke explaining why now he has decided he will not be with the Patriots Saturday at the draft. This is part of his statement that he put out. As I said the other day, I promised my family, this organization, and this team that I was going to give them the best version of me that I possibly can give them. In order to do so, I have committed to seeking counseling starting this weekend. This is something that I've given a lot of thought to and is something I would advise a player to do if I was counseling them. I have always wanted to lead by example, and I believe this is what I have to do to be the best husband, father, and coach that I could possibly be. This is not an easy thing for me to admit, but it is one that I know will make me a better person.
00:11:00
Speaker 2: Okay, more power to him. And as we're weird, I'm rooting for families kind of in this whole thing. This can be a mess. Don't know what's going on behind the scenes and those families, but they're going through it, yes, right now with something like this.
00:11:15
Speaker 1: Yes, and the publicity certainly makes anything that's difficult privately just hurt that much more when everyone is weighing in and commenting on it. All right, for the final leg of our run, my favorite story of the day, Coffee lovers, we have another reason to pour ourselves another cup of joe. A new study is found that regularly drinking coffee, and it doesn't matter if it's caffeinated or decaffeinated, positively affects your gut microbiome, which influences your mood and stress levels. So much now being talked about gut microbiome health. So this study found that those who drink coffee had lower perceived stress, depression and impulsivity.
00:11:57
Speaker 2: Scores lower perceived What is the like?
00:12:00
Speaker 1: They just basically, you're given a questionnaire you're and you say how you're feeling. And so they did this through a group of folks who were drinking coffee caffeinated and to caffeated and then non coffee drinkers, and they compared the results and they said it was remarkable. Bottom line, basically, drinking coffee improves your mood regardless of caffeine content, which I thought was interesting. But drinking caffeinated coffee that's when you they say it specifically was associated with reduced feelings of anxiety, improved vigilance and attention, so you have sharper focus basically, and a reduced risk of inflammation. So it was just positive after positive after positive. I thought it was interesting too, because coffee sometimes if I am feeling anxious, I'm a little concerned to have coffee because I feel like that might elevate my heart rate. But they're saying it actually reduces feelings of anxiety.
00:12:52
Speaker 2: I love coffee with the bean and not the caffeine.
00:12:55
Speaker 1: Well, the caffeine actually does give it an extra boost, but the bean itself, Yes, there are help that if it's to the bean and your gut health, and then the caffeine actually gives you even more.
00:13:06
Speaker 2: It's weeheart. This is why now I have creativity. It's it's my thing now. Espresso martinis absolutely put me in the best mood ever.
00:13:13
Speaker 1: I am hoping that you can can parley your new found love of espresso martinis to just having coffee in the morning. I will tell you it's been interesting not having like a shared coffee routine with you, Like I don't no, but maybe.
00:13:27
Speaker 2: You like I'm letting you down. No hiking now, no coffee. Why are we even a guest?
00:13:31
Speaker 1: Two of my favorite things? But I love you more. Oh wow, we've got our quote of the day today.
00:13:37
Speaker 2: I always say we we mean her?
00:13:39
Speaker 1: Yes, yes, all right, here we go. Fake has become so normal that people get offended by honesty.
00:13:48
Speaker 2: Fake has become so normal? Have you said?
00:13:50
Speaker 1: I feel like that is the rise of social media and maybe even just this need to please. But I thought that was so interesting and yet so true. Fake has become so normal that people get offended by honesty.
00:14:04
Speaker 2: Wow, then there's brutal honesty. No, there isn't in your face kind of a thing that more folks are tend to do now to where this is me, it's just who I am. If you don't like where there's no consideration.
00:14:17
Speaker 1: There's no filter.
00:14:18
Speaker 2: You say filter, I say no consideration for somebody else's feelings. You got, you can, there's a balance, you can do both. I get what you're saying there. But yeah, it's people almost shocked when you're honest with them and you have to convince them that no, that's really how I feel.
00:14:33
Speaker 1: I do think that we've gotten all the lines blurred because we feel like we have to put on this face, whether it's what we do to our faces or what filters we put on our Instagram photos or whatever TikTok videos. Yeah, it's like what is actually real? And people are shocked and maybe yes even offended sometimes when you're honest. But you know what, honesty the truth that's you free. Doesn't it all right?
00:14:57
Speaker 2: With that?
00:14:58
Speaker 1: Everyone? Thank you for running with us on this Friday Eve. I'm Amy Robot and I'm t J.
00:15:02
