We'll get into this Brian and Amaya thing after the Taylor and Travis thing yesterday. Also, we got a few things to get to. There's a whole mess at the CDC over the director being fired but refusing to resign. We got the power ball up to a billion dollars. There's a big fine for a tennis superstar who had a meltdown. Trump is solidifying his control over DC by taking over a train station. And then we got an update on Russia and Ukraine. But folks, we want to get to all that, but we really have to. We didn't want to really delay in getting to the latest on what happened in Minneapolis and rogues. We've been and been to the sight of, and we have all, I guess experienced in some way over the years, these horrific school shootings. It's hard to imagine after Uvaldi, Newtown, even Parkland, that there would be a shooting that's more shocking, not more dead. But this one was more shocking in how this gunman attacked helpless, praying children. That's a detail of this one that still elevates this to a way. This is more unconscionable than a lot of a lot of shootings we've seen in a lot of ways, it's hard to you don't rank them once worse than another, but this is unconscionable.

Speaker 1: It's just the last place that you would expect such evil violence in a church, in a church where young children are praying before they go to school. So yes, we do begin our run in Minnesota on this Thursday. We don't know a motive in this shocking mass shooting attack on children at a Catholic school in Minneapolis yesterday. Two kids were killed, ages eight and ten.

Speaker 3: Another fourteen kids were shot. They range in age from six to fifteen. Now, those kids, the fourteen who were shot, are all expected to survive. In fact, we got word that several of them have overnight at least even got out of the hospital. But this was unconscionable violence against helpless children. They were sitting in church pews for a mass when they became targets for this gunman.

Speaker 1: Yeah, it started around eight thirty yesterday morning, when the kids from Annunciation Catholic School in Minneapolis had all gathered for a back to school mass. The school is about five miles south of downtown Minneapolis, just to give you an idea of the location. Now, police say the gunmen fired through the windows of the church as kids were just sitting helplessly in church pews. In addition to the fourteen kids that were shot, three adults in their eighties were also hit.

Speaker 3: And now police say they did recover a pistol, a rifle, shotgun at the scene. As of this recording, police had not released a motive, but they did identify the shooter as twenty three year old Robin Westman, who died at the scene of a self inflicted gunshot wound. Now, we do want to tell you what we do know about the shooter at this point and why there is already heated, ugly and even hateful rhetoric surrounding the shooter. Again. The shooter's name Robin Westman.

Speaker 1: Robin Westman, though was born Robert Westman, and according to court documents, had applied for a legal name change because Westman identified as a female and wanted her name to reflect that identification. Westman has no criminal history, according to police, but they are looking into online videos and a possible manifesto posted by Westman just before the shooting.

Speaker 3: And these videos are in incredibly disturbing stuff that included anti Semitic and anti Christian language. Authorities have not identified the motive as we mentioned, but Westman did attend the school Annunciation School for a short time. Mother also worked there for years as well. The videos robes. I know you've seen some of the skills. They've taken them down, but it is horrific stuff that if it was caught early enough, I think it was posted just hours before May the day before was clearly saying what they were about to go do. Wow, Wow, clearly saying what they were about to go do. Now, the FBI director Cash Pttel says they are investigating this as domestic terrorism and as a hate crime.

Speaker 1: Patel also identified the shooter as a male saying this in a tweet. The shooter has been identified as Robin Westman, a male born as Robert Westman. Patel was feeding into that narrative that's erupted with renewed hate being directed at the trans community. And it's the last thing need when a shooting like this occurs, it is fueled by hate. To add hate in any way to any group is so counter productive, and that's a really benign word to use. It's it's it's not it's just the opposite direction we need to be headed in.

But it is an ugly, ugly narrative going on right now, and some folks who have a problem with the transcommunity anyway are using this as an excuse to go now, oh see, I mean you go through what Muslim if there was one that the whole community, Muslim community get attacked because one person does something. We get where that comes from. But this some of the language coming after this one and coming after this person who did a horrific thing, And that's not what we're saying, but the entire, an entire community right now is being attacked by the actions of this person.

They always use thoughts and prayers? Yes, and a politician there in Minneapolis. So why we keep saying that we need action? Because if you say thoughts and prayers, what do you do when a child is literally playing and a shot is praying and a.

We've been talking about how terrible that is to instill that kind of fear, and then the concern that perhaps if a shooting was to happen that maybe it wouldn't be taken as seriously because of these hoax calls and all of these scares. This as our kids are going back to school and us parents and the children, everyone is on edge and this is just such an unfortunate, unfortunate and disturbing trend that continues.

Where the Trump administration has fired the director of the CDC after less than a month on the job. Well why Well, the Department of Health and Human Service has said that fifty year old Susan Monares wasn't aligned with President Trump's agenda and refused to resign, so the White House fired her.

Speaker 1: I thought Republicans were anti big government anyway, just saying Duffy said, the President wants to make Union Station beautiful again and wants to make transit safe again. And his words, Union Station isn't a point of pride anymore. It's fallen into disrepair. Union Station had been the focus of the federal government's crackdown on crime in DC, and the National Guard has certainly kept a noticeable presence there.

Speaker 3: Look, they've had their issues over the year, a bunch of revitalization efforts, but you walk in there. I have always that grand Central in New York, just beautiful facilities. Now, folks will tell you Union Station has had some issues with crime over the years, and it's a place where many people who are down on the luck and homeless will go hang out and use the restroom, try to find something to eat. Fun. But it is gorgeous. But the president is really into beautifying DC. He is really into it right now.

Speaker 3: All right, I said overseas now with the Russian President, Vladimir Putin has responded to the latest calls for a ceasefire and an end to the war. His response came in the form of six hundred drones, thirty ballistic missiles, and fourteen dead in one of the largest and deadliest attacks on the Ukrainian capital in recent weeks.

Speaker 1: The large scale overnight attack on Kiev was even described by President Zelenski as a clear response that tells you where Putin's head is. In Zelenski's words, Putin chooses ballistics over the negotiating table. Ukraine said at least three children were killed in this latest attack, which targeted civilians.

Speaker 3: And this attack comes after Putin and Trump met face to face for that much anticipated and a lot of hope was rioting on that summit in Alaska. But all that effort seems to have stalled. Putin never seemed interested in a one on one with Zelensky. So the missiles keep flying and people keep.
