Speaker 1: Yes uh on this monday um this is a tough rundown today there's a lot to update you on happening in the world there's some ropes of mass shootings the update out of nepal is awful at um i mean we got to get through this stuff but this is a a tough way to start the week ropes with some of these updates i'm We'll find some good news and some moments in there somewhere. But it is, it's a tough stretch of news right now.

Speaker 3: Yes, and that's maybe a good disclaimer at the top. But we know all eyes right now are in Massachusetts on those jurors in the Lindsay Clancy trial. They will return this morning and, yes, continue their deliberations. They've deliberated about ten and a half hours so far. That happened Thursday and Friday of last week. They're deciding whether Lindsay Clancy was guilty. criminally responsible for the deaths of her three young children.

Speaker 1: Of course, she's claiming postpartum psychosis is what caused her to strangle them in 2023. The jury has several options. Yes, murder is an option, but also manslaughter is on the table now. So a lot of people looking at that as possibly a way to, I don't know, hedge their bets, I guess, to give her some responsibility, but not all responsibility. We'll keep an eye on that. The other major trial, the other major trial, courtroom we keep an eye on is in Vegas, where closing arguments are expected in the Tupac trial. Dwayne Davis being held accountable for providing the gun and orchestrating the plan to kill rap icon Tupac Shakur in 96. Davis, the only person ever brought to justice in that death. But again, those closing arguments are expected to start this morning. And Robes, those are the two stories that have dominated really the past month, month and a half when it comes to news and certainly crime headlines in this country. And to think they're all coming to a conclusion at exactly the same time.

Speaker 3: Authorities in Nepal just announced an alarming spike in the number of missing and dead from that catastrophic flooding. 900 people right now are confirmed dead, but wait until you hear just how many more are missing. At least 4,300 people, and right now we know approximately 100 Americans are among those missing. This is according to the State Department, so a lot of work being done over there trying to find those folks.

Speaker 1: We continue on the run here now and talk about the war with Iran. And for the first time in a month, the U.S. launched strikes against Iran, and Iran has retaliated. CENTCOM reporting. It struck Iranian rocket launchers that were preparing to fire Iran, then retaliated by firing at American bases in the region. A reminder, as this is going on, again, this is the first time we have seen airstrikes in about a month. No negotiations, according to President Trump, are currently going on.

Speaker 3: All right, next up on the run, we head to New Jersey, where at least 10 people were shot at a cookout in Trenton over the weekend, and two of those shooting victims died.

Speaker 3: Police are describing it as an unauthorized block party.

Speaker 1: No arrests have been made here yet, and police have not announced a motive in this shooting, but the victims are all between the ages of 23 and 43. But this was a cookout, a gathering that happened in the middle of the street that took up several blocks, according to authorities. Meanwhile, we turn to another mass shooting, and this one was in Chicago. One person dead, another 14 injured. This happened at a gathering... On Chicago's south side, police have not announced a motive here and have not even said exactly why this gathering was going on, but they were trying to disperse a crowd when this happened and no arrests have been made in this case either.

Speaker 2: Wow. Next up on the run, we will head to the Grand Canyon.

Speaker 3: One person is dead and as many as 15 others are missing in flash flooding. Yes, the Grand Canyon this weekend, it happened on Saturday. There have been dozens of air rescues. Unfortunately, more rain is possible today, but It's one of those situations when you have nowhere for the water to go and it rushes through this canyon. People who are hiking the area can get swept up in it. It is so scary and so sudden. I guess that's the name, flash flooding.

Speaker 1: Not sure of the count there because there's so many people that do hike and they do camp out there. They're not sure of the exact numbers, but they're keeping an eye on possibly more flooding today. I want to turn to now. On our run, make a stop in Missouri. We're just getting the football season underway, college football season, and now we have a player death to tell you about. This is a college player who had a medical emergency on the sidelines of his game this weekend, a game in which he had scored a touchdown. And it just scored. His name is Michael Joe Barnett. He was a running back for Division II William Jewell College in Missouri.

Speaker 3: Yes, the team's game this weekend was suspended after that ambulance was called to tend to Barnett, who was having what they called an undisclosed medical emergency right there on his team's sideline.

Speaker 1: All right, continuing on the run here now, a couple of updates. The absolutely childish and unnecessary spat over what to call a lake that's been called Lake Ontario for hundreds of years. President Trump, last week, you remember, signed an executive order which directs the U.S. to start referring to it as Lake America.

Speaker 3: And sure enough, go ahead, check your Google Maps right now. It's been updated to say Lake of America. Meanwhile, the Ontario premiere has unveiled a huge sign near the U.S.-Canada border. We saw this last night. And it reads, Lake Ontario, now and always. And just in case you needed a translation, if you spoke French and you're a French-Canadian, yes, they have that in English and in French to reiterate.

We can call it whatever we want or designate what the U.S. will call it, but officially you can't just tell the rest of the world what to start calling a lake. Continuing on the run here now with the U.S. Open. This was a stunner last night because Novak Djokovic is out. Yes, the GOAT is out. In the first round of the U.S. Open, the first time in his legendary career that has ever happened, happened, that he lost this early in the U.S. Open. He lost to a guy from Argentina, a 25-year-old who had a lot of energy out there, Mariano Navoni. Novak was a mess, though, Robes. He was not himself during this. He's the seeded fourth in this tournament. He was literally vomiting on the court.

There's nothing you can do. It's just you break down. And that's surely what happened. Take nothing away from this kid who beat him under the lights last night. Novak was a mess. And because this one went five sets, Robes, Venus didn't get to start playing until after midnight last night, her match. And she lost last night.

Parton, of course, died last week, August 25th, after a brief battle with cancer. And the commemorations and the honoring of her has been nonstop.

The governor came out this weekend in support of a, it was a fan-led idea and a cool one at that, The governor saying at a place where Tennessee welcomes the world, it is fitting that Nashville International Airport would bear the name of our state's favorite daughter and greet travelers with the enduring legacy of Dolly's music, generosity, faith and kindness.

Speaker 1: The airport is supposed to take this up, this proposed name change at its next monthly meeting. There are some challenges here, Rose. They tried to change the name recently to somebody else's name. And that effort went nowhere. It was supposed to be Trump Airport in Nashville, baby. They pushed the idea to name this after him, and the reason they didn't do it was because they found out it was going to cost too much money to change all this stuff, millions and millions of dollars. But, Rogues, there was recently an absolute effort by a Republican lawmaker, and they moved this forward to change the name of the airport to Donald Trump.
