Speaker 1: Hey, the folks, it is Saturday, May twenty third. Maybe a bunch of weddings are taking place on a Saturday in May across this country. Is there, ever, though a good excuse for a parent to skip their kid's wedding? Well maybe if you're the president of the United States with that Welcome to this episode of Amy and TJ.

00:00:24
Speaker 2: On its face robes.

00:00:26
Speaker 1: You hear any parent missing voluntarily skipping their kids wedding, and you think.

00:00:33
Speaker 3: What they should probably be bedridden in a hospital with an IV on them. They can't make it, something keeps them from doing so, physically cannot make it.

00:00:43
Speaker 2: Yes, is there.

00:00:44
Speaker 1: Ever a reason you can come up with that a parent who isn't bedridden, who can't physically make it, who can't even maybe afford to fly to Europe or whatever? Can you come up with something that a parent could say short of that, that will say, Okay, I understand you don't want to be here or can't be here.

00:01:04
Speaker 3: The only thing I could think of is that you believe that the person your child's marrying could physically harm them or do something that was so catastrophic that you had to actually physically protest their union.

00:01:17
Speaker 2: Okay, you're against it so much. It would be a protest.

00:01:19
Speaker 4: It would yes, Okay, it would be a protest.

00:01:21
Speaker 1: So here we are. We talked about it, Robes. It has been talked about all week because the President made comments about it. But it is now official. He has skipped the wedding of not just his son, his namesake, Donald Trump Junior. Did not have Donald Trump Senior at his wedding or at the continual continuing wedding celebrations that are going on this weekend.

00:01:41
Speaker 3: Right, he actually had two opportunities. He didn't even have to leave the country actually to be present or to be around or in the vicinity of his son officially marrying what we now hear is the love of his life.

00:01:54
Speaker 4: But Tina Anderson, a socialite, an influencer, a model, because we're learning that they actually officially were married on Thursday in Palm Beach. Correct, But the big celebration, the big wedding, is taking place in the Bahamas today on Saturday, May twenty seconds.

00:02:13
Speaker 1: And Trump President Trump, we knew earlier this week, at least his official schedule Robes had him going to New Jersey to play a little golf on I think that was Friday, was it not. So this was before we didn't realize that the wedding was on Thursday. Ceremony if you will, but the party is this weekend. That makes sense. So he was going to play golf in New Jersey. I think that was slated for Friday. That ended up gets getting canceled because I look, this is the other headline here is that something going on with the war in Iran, and people are standing by waiting to see if the president that's going to restart military action against Iran. So he goes back to the White House. We think something's going on, Rodans. But ultimately now he's not going to be a part of any of his son's wedding events. Now, he was in the Oval Office. We talked about it early all morning run this week, but he made some comments that I guess Roe shouldn't make this a surprise that he ultimately made this decision.

00:03:06
Speaker 4: Yeah, he set it up.

00:03:08
Speaker 3: He was telling reporters there in the Oval Office that while he'd like to be at his son's wedding, he didn't think that it was good timing.

00:03:15
Speaker 4: Is how he put it. This is this is terrible timing for me.

00:03:18
Speaker 3: And he referenced the war with Iran, even though I guess we're not supposed to say it's a war because it's not a war, because if it were a war, to be illegal. So it's just a conflict. But yes, he says because of the conflict with Iran, he couldn't. Probably he didn't say for sure, at least initially, that he wasn't going to attend, but he set the stage for the fact that he wouldn't be there.

00:03:39
Speaker 2: Okay, I thought he was being a little cute in the Oval office.

00:03:42
Speaker 1: Now he didn't seem that series he's you know, I told him I got this little thing called Iran, right he was saying, and it almost it wasn't tongue in cheek, but it seemed playful enough. He smiled at times, and he made the comment Robes and this is probably true. No matter who if he had gone, no matter what, he was going to get criticized. He used the word killed, but he was going to get criticized.

00:04:03
Speaker 3: Well, yes, But I also think that when it comes to family and when it comes to those big events in life, I think most people, regardless of how you feel about President Trump, would I just can't imagine that people would frown or be critical of him taking a couple hours out of his day to watch his son get married. And look, when you are the president of the United States, you have access and resources to I don't know.

00:04:29
Speaker 4: Would people be upset if he used Air Force one?

00:04:32
Speaker 3: Even still, he has enough of his own money and his own private planes he could hop down there for he could be on the ground for thirty minutes and fly right back and be in constant contact with whomever and whatever he needs to be in contact with.

00:04:46
Speaker 4: So I don't know. I feel like most people.

00:04:49
Speaker 3: Would absolutely applaud him putting family at least on the same level as his duties as president.

00:04:57
Speaker 4: When it comes to something major and significant like.

00:04:59
Speaker 1: This, I know it's politics, and he criticism is going to go going to come, no matter what ropes he was going to play golf. I would have been more critical of that during the time of war than him going to spend the entire weekend with his son if he wanted to ropes.

00:05:13
Speaker 2: He does and says a lot of stuff.

00:05:14
Speaker 1: People take issue with, head scratching, shocking, everything else. We report on it, but we don't we make a point not to be critical of, not to do something and say something in support or against. I would have defended President Trump against criticism of him going to his son's wedding.

00:05:34
Speaker 3: I would too, I actually would have what would be a circumstance in which you would not attend one of your children's weddings?

00:05:41
Speaker 2: Don't like the spouse?

00:05:44
Speaker 4: Really would? You wouldn't do it? You'd still show up.

00:05:47
Speaker 1: There's there's no chance. I'm trying to think of anything so mean is sitting here in the.

00:05:53
Speaker 4: Room to be listening.

00:05:55
Speaker 1: Yeah, well, because she I would show up, even though more I hate who she's madring, the more insistent I am about being there front row, sitting there edge of my seat. I want him sweating as he's standing at trying to take But I don't know, ro I can't come up with anything other than an acrimonious relationship in that family. Now, I'm not accusing the Trumps of that. I'm saying I can't think of anything other than there being a family beef that a parent wouldn't attend. Now, I'm trying to Robe understand. This is a time of war. People are paying higher. Did he make this decision?

00:06:29
Speaker 2: Robes?

00:06:30
Speaker 1: As a matter of appearances, it doesn't seem like that's something he's usually given a damn.

00:06:33
Speaker 3: About Yeah, but when it comes to his strength and him being viewed as a powerful leader, that is very important to him. Think about all the imagery he's been putting out recently, even that have been not borderline bizarre, it's bizarre showing him as a godlike christ like, stronger, larger than life persona. I do think he cares more. I do believe this, s babe. I do he cares more about his image of strength and just he is the supreme leader of the world. He cares more about that he knows his son's gonna love him no matter what. He knows that his son, they clearly have a good relationship, and he's basically saying, you'll be fine without me.

00:07:19
Speaker 4: I gotta do what I got to.

00:07:20
Speaker 1: Don a man, I not, and I have not thought about this until this moment. You're saying that this is a little too sweet and sappy and sentimental for him to make such a display as a loving father to run down. You say that flies against.

00:07:35
Speaker 3: I think this is an opportunity for him. The headlines that he missed his own son's wedding.

00:07:40
Speaker 2: Because he loves the country so much.

00:07:41
Speaker 3: The United States of America. Okay, yes, that is what I am saying.

00:07:45
Speaker 2: Go to the truth. Okay, that go the true social thing backs up what you're saying.

00:07:49
Speaker 4: So he put this out yesterday on Friday.

00:07:52
Speaker 3: While I very much wanted to be with my son, Don Junior, and the newest member of the Trump family is soon to be wife Bettina, sircumstances pertaining to government and my love for the United States of America do not allow me to do so. I feel it is important for me to remain in Washington, d C. At the White House during this important period of time. Congratulations to Donna men Tina, President Donald J.

00:08:19
Speaker 4: Trump.

00:08:19
Speaker 3: And look, we are hearing reports from multiple sources that Betina actually wanted to have the wedding at the White House. Wouldn't that have been a way for him to stay at the White House at the Oval Office and just you know, if they wanted to have a smaller private ceremony, he could have just walked down the hall, watched his son get married, and then walk back to the Oval Office.

00:08:40
Speaker 4: But apparently she was not well. That was not met with any.

00:08:44
Speaker 3: Enthusiasm her idea or her desire to get married at the White House.

00:08:50
Speaker 1: Okay, I might have had a problem with that one. Yeah, and a private We didn't have to see anything. It's your house, have it in there. But if it was going to be a big White House lawn.

00:09:00
Speaker 4: No, But there's a compromise. I get it.

00:09:02
Speaker 3: We are in a time of conflict, and I understand how that wouldn't be a good look to have this big celebratory. He still has the Easter egg role, he still has plenty of other things. I understand this is a personal situation. But you could still have had it there and kept it. It's a big house and people love weddings.

00:09:18
Speaker 1: But it's under construction right now. It's a mess outside. Do you really even want to have your wedding she did at that place?

00:09:23
Speaker 3: She did?

00:09:25
Speaker 2: Did she?

00:09:26
Speaker 4: She did?

00:09:26
Speaker 1: Okay, Yes, if you are marrying somebody whose father is the president, my first option, why should we get married?

00:09:31
Speaker 2: I don't know.

00:09:33
Speaker 3: I don't know this woman, but she's a socialite and an influencer. She's very, very prominent on social media. Those are be some pretty good pictures a wedding at the White House. Yeah, I think that would have been a win for her.

00:09:45
Speaker 1: Okay, So it didn't happen. The President put that out. But you're right, Brokees. Those lines he uses do suggest it's a message to the country that I am willing to sacrifice my own family event, my own son's nuptials for you, America. And maybe that is the messaging he was going after. But this is one all day long. I don't have a single hesitation with him going to attend his son's wedding, no matter what's going on with Iran or gas prices or whatever else. It's okay, you're a dad.

00:10:18
Speaker 3: We understand exactly and so and I just think with the resources he has, even personally available to him, he could have been in and out and he could have made an appearance and it would have gone a long way. So why not Then that's not because I think, Look, I don't know, but the only thing that would make sense to me is that he liked the appearance of him sacrificing for the country.

00:10:37
Speaker 2: But then that is a sacrifice to your son. That would sting. That sucks.

00:10:44
Speaker 1: I mean, Robes, we wouldn't plan if we wanted certain people at the wedding and they had something going on, we wouldn't plan it for that particular day. Now, I mean they planned as they didn't know the war maybe would be going on and whatnot. But Robes, he wants his dad there. I mean, he is the man at that wedding. Absolutely that sucks and I hate there for Don Junior. I know everybody with the politics and like the hell with these people and they don't care about anybody else at the bottom. But end of the day, these are people, and they have families and they have kids, and they are like anybody else in a bunch of ways, and a bunch of ways they're not. But Robes, we have to find some commonality sometimes. And you got to grant folks, even that you disagree with politically, a moment of being a human being like you and family oriented and this especially, and this is important, and can't we just let them have a weekend without criticizing the president for seeing his son's wedding.

00:11:31
Speaker 3: Yeah, and look, look I understand the not it not being a good look to have the wedding at the White House, But I don't know. Don't we kind of love weddings period, And isn't it sometimes well not sometimes it's almost always a sign of hope. I mean, love wins.

00:11:47
Speaker 4: What was it on?

00:11:48
Speaker 3: I saw Vanessa Trump had her bridle shower and she had This made me chuck out.

00:11:53
Speaker 2: Because I remember because I was laughing when you said it out loud.

00:11:55
Speaker 4: You you remember it.

00:11:57
Speaker 3: Love Trump's all yes on her idle shower cookies. I believe this big shower took place a month ago in Florida and Palm Beach, but yes on their cookies. You know, you can have the little private sayings, Love Trump saw. It's interesting to me that, look, this could have been I think if it was a small, more private affair with some pictures that were released, it it humanizes the family. I know that I'm not Look, people could take issue with that. They don't need to be humanized. But I do think that with all that's said and all the politics and mudslinging, I think to see two people who seem deeply in love commit themselves to each other is a beautiful thing. And look, every other president there are I mean, you can have a grandchild, you know, there are. There have been weddings at the White House since the beginning of.

00:12:43
Speaker 2: Time, you know.

00:12:43
Speaker 1: But given again, I think just the political climate robes, there's there's a good segment of the country that won't be quiet and will take issue and won't celebrate anything positive that happens for this family, even yes, a wedding and a celebration of love and a new beginning, whatever it may, people would look at it doesn't matter how beautiful those pictures might be, and they would they would never applaud it and just be happy for them.

00:13:07
Speaker 3: Do you think it matters that this is Donald Trump Junior's second marriage instead of his first.

00:13:12
Speaker 1: I don't think so. I don't think that's it. It's Donald Trump jun You could be doing anything. Donald Trump Junior is just his name is Donald Trump Junior.

00:13:20
Speaker 3: I also wonder this is a crazy week in headlines for Donald Trump Junior's family, his children. He has five children with Vanessa Trump, who is, if you recall, romantically linked to Tiger Woods now and they seem to have a very amicable relationship post divorce, co parenting. You hear Avanka talking kindly about Vanessa, but she announced she had breast cancer this week. I mean, this is a hell of a week for the Trump family, and that's a hell of a week to have a wedding. I was just imagining, man, those few days after I was first diagnosed, and I know this isn't new to her. She just announced it this week. But those weeks and months following a diagnosis are just overwhelmingly scary and sad and awful, and so yes, maybe this is what the family needed. But all five kids are reportedly at the celebration at the Bahamas. All of his siblings are reportedly there as well with their family, So everyone, it seems, except for Grandpa.

00:14:15
Speaker 4: But I don't know. Is Milania going, Is Baron going?

00:14:18
Speaker 2: We haven't Malona is probably there.

00:14:19
Speaker 3: We haven't heard, I haven't seen, I haven't seen reporting on whether or not Milania and Baron will be there.

00:14:24
Speaker 2: Okay, but stay here, folks.

00:14:26
Speaker 1: Yes, we talked about Vanessa Trump, but that is not the most recent relationship Donald Trump Junior was in. We will remind you about his other high profile ex fiance in just a moment. And we just told you a robot just did about those cupcakes had that saying on it that said love Trump's all. Well, wait until you here how Robes was inspired and now has a message she wants to put on our wedding cupcakes. Hi, welcome back to this goofy episode of Amy and DJ Robes over here cutting up during the commercial break.

00:15:11
Speaker 2: Oh, but we'll go back here.

00:15:13
Speaker 3: I was cutting up and laughing because I was thinking of this, saying that I suggested after Ice saw loved Trump Saul, I thought it was a.

00:15:20
Speaker 1: Good when we are going to hold on to it. Before we were apt with that, though, we did want to remind folks remember Donald Trump Junior.

00:15:25
Speaker 2: This was a very recent.

00:15:28
Speaker 1: Remind me how recent was the breakup with Kimberly Guildford, former Fox News anchor, former Gavin newsoman, wife some wife, and current ambassador to grease.

00:15:42
Speaker 3: So she's over in Athens by the way, of course, you know, reporters were there watching her as it was announced that actually Donald Trump Junior and Betina Anderson already were married.

00:15:52
Speaker 4: On Thursday.

00:15:53
Speaker 3: She was showing up, apparently in a mini dress and stiletto's in Athens.

00:15:57
Speaker 4: Partying to work. Just no o. She was out partying watching soccer games or something. She was there but.

00:16:05
Speaker 3: Wanting to say that she was living it up and having the time of her life while the man that she hoped to marry at least at one point is now marrying another. But they were engaged for nearly four years, and if you read the reporting at CNN and others, They will tell you that most people who knew her, they say she was devastated when he broke it off with her. She had issued ultimatums she wanted to marry this man, and so yes, it was after the twenty twenty four election that we learned that they broke up. President Trump then offered her the Greek ambassadorship, which was I guess.

00:16:42
Speaker 4: I mean, look, you.

00:16:43
Speaker 3: Can, you can say what you want, but they got her out of the country but gave her a wonderful gig and maybe just saying hey, don't say anything bad about the Trump family. Yes you're not going to be a part of it, but we'll give you a really awesome parting gift.

00:16:58
Speaker 1: What would be your ambassador ship if someone just say, hey, we need you to go away and be quiet. Pick a country where do you want your ambassadorship?

00:17:05
Speaker 4: Italy?

00:17:05
Speaker 3: I will be the ambassador to Italy. I'd even take France too, that'd be my backup. But maybe even like, honestly, is there an ambassador to like Fiji or Tahiti or anything like that. I think I could lick my wounds there. It would be okay, I'm trying to.

00:17:24
Speaker 2: Think of something outside of Italy. That would that would work, But that's it.

00:17:27
Speaker 1: But I maybe France, but I would ask for the base to be it, and I want to be based in Nice.

00:17:32
Speaker 2: Yes in particular.

00:17:33
Speaker 4: Okay, well, or at least have a nice bureau or something like that.

00:17:35
Speaker 1: But Kimberly Giffol, we found out about Betina, didn't we, not before we found out about the break.

00:17:39
Speaker 2: It was very close those two things.

00:17:41
Speaker 3: There were, Yes, there were pictures circulating about with the two of them holding hands walking through West Palm Beach in the Florida area. So they got caught looking cozy. I shouldn't say, I hate that word. They were in a relationship, but if they were, they were photographed looking cozy and chummy. And then they had to go ahead and acknowledg just that. Yes, Kimberly Gilfoyle, that is over. And now you've got number two walking in. And they dated for about a year.

00:18:08
Speaker 2: Two walking in.

00:18:10
Speaker 3: I'm sorry, but they dated for about a year before he proposed. And look it's been quick because that was in twenty twenty four. Here we are in twenty twenty six and they are married officially.

00:18:20
Speaker 2: How short was the engagement?

00:18:22
Speaker 4: Well, let's see, if they were twenty four five. It was a matter of months.

00:18:25
Speaker 2: Well, yeah, good for them, and I do.

00:18:27
Speaker 1: I hated that the president didn't go, or I hate the president didn't feel like he could go, or I hate that the president make a decision not to go for pr reason. I hate that anything got in the way of just a dad, go and see your son get married. That sucks. We'll probably hear some more about this. We'll probably be seeing pictures soon enough. Now we'll wrap with the cookies. I thought it was I'm gonna hold not the cookies, but the cupcakes. But this message works.

00:18:48
Speaker 4: Oh they were cupcakes. I thought they were cookies.

00:18:49
Speaker 2: Oh you told me she had.

00:18:51
Speaker 4: I think there were cookies. Okay, cookie with the icing on top.

00:18:54
Speaker 2: Yeah, cookies with the icing on it.

00:18:55
Speaker 3: At the it was the the bridle shower that happened about a month ago.

00:19:00
Speaker 1: Okay, so the bridal shower. They have cookies and the icing on them. Say what, love trumps all? That's pretty good? Is it not?

00:19:06
Speaker 4: Yes?

00:19:06
Speaker 1: Okay, because that is an actual saying that people say. But it also it's their middle name. Love trumps. Ah, that's pretty good. I think it has a good Is it too cheesy for you?

00:19:16
Speaker 4: I mean, I started laughing.

00:19:18
Speaker 2: But I thought it was pretty good. So then I am up fired.

00:19:21
Speaker 4: I was inspired. It just it just popped in my head.

00:19:23
Speaker 3: Hey, babe, for our wedding cookies that we are obviously going to get personalized.

00:19:29
Speaker 4: They could just say Holmes is where the Heart Is.

00:19:32
Speaker 2: I didn't laugh. I thought it was I thought it was clever. I didn't laugh at all.

00:19:38
Speaker 4: I mean, you know, we have to do that.

00:19:39
Speaker 2: Now, we have to do that.

00:19:41
Speaker 4: At least we have to have at least one cook that's amazing that says Holmes is where the Heart is.

00:19:45
Speaker 2: That's kind of amazing.

00:19:46
Speaker 3: Or maybe maybe we'll have it cross stitched and framed and put up in our apartment. You know how much we love those Marshals TJ Max home goods signs that are everywhere, or you know, anytime you walk into a beach town you got a general store, those signs are everywhere.

00:20:04
Speaker 4: We get the biggest kick out of it.

00:20:06
Speaker 3: Like you have a house on a lake, obviously you have to have tons of signs that say this is our lake house, lake house rules.

00:20:13
Speaker 4: You have to have everything on theme.

00:20:17
Speaker 1: Holmes is where the heart is, Where the heart is? That it's pretty good I'm not making fun of you. I like it a lot, folks. We just wanted to give the update on this weekend. Maybe a lot of folks out there getting married, hopefully everybody you want at your wedding.

00:20:31
Speaker 3: Yeah, we actually saw weddings here where we are. You're in Napa A big well. I guess we're not in Napa right now. We're just outside of San Francisco, but on the way to Napa, and we saw two weddings yesterday.

00:20:42
Speaker 2: And one only one happy bride.

00:20:45
Speaker 3: Yes, she didn't look very happy. I told her, I was like, you look beautiful when I walked by, and she almost started crying.

00:20:50
Speaker 2: She was not trying to hear it. Maybe her dad can come.

00:20:56
Speaker 4: Full circle.

00:20:59
Speaker 2: All right?

00:21:00
Speaker 3: With that, everyone, we'll end it before it gets even worse. Thank you, as always for listening to us on this Saturday morning. I've made me Roebuck alongside TJ.

00:21:10
Speaker 4: Holmes. We'll talk to you soon.
