Love Island Recap (Ep4): Girl Drama We All Saw Coming; "Gimme 10"
Episode 4 dropped Friday night and full disclosure, we actually started watching it, during half time of the NBA finals, and it did not disappoint. However, we did fast forward through some of the “Boss Bitch” game that just got truly, sexually uncomfortable at times. But the episode ends with the continuing spiral of Melanie, who ended the episode with an emotional episode of her own.

Speaker 1: Hey that folks. It is Saturday, June sixth, and this is your recap of Love Island, Season eight, episode four. And here we were. Everybody was thinking that Kinsey was the crazy one. Melanie stepped in and said, hole my beer, and with that, welcome to this episode of Amy and TJ. Ropes. Was obviously Melanie's night. This was Melanie's episode.
00:00:26
Speaker 2: Well, it almost as if it escalated from the episode the day before, so she was already starting to melt down, and then it became a full spiral by the end of last night, where she just kept saying, give me ten, give me ten, give me ten. She needed some space, apparently, Melanie.
00:00:47
Speaker 1: I'm not sure what's going on with Melanie, don't know her, but she has been triggered by what seemingly are insignificant or what should be insignificant lights from someone she is known for twenty four to forty hours and she has absolutely been in tears. She has lashed out, she has gotten angry, she has gotten mean, and we're seeing something that I guess we should all take note of. Sometimes this appears to be an insecure young lady. I'm not insulting her in that way, but robes. It's amazing to watch someone go through what she's going through and what triggered it. And we don't know her, we wonder why. But I saw her in my heart started breaking for at some point last night.
00:01:31
Speaker 2: Yeah, she seems like the sweetest girl. And I think anyone going into this tries to prepare for what it's going to be like to be basically in this truly this bubble where the world is watching. I mean, they're basically in a social experiment in an aquarium and we're all watching. And even though maybe they don't have the idea or any idea of what people are saying on the outside, I believe they are highly aware of how they're being viewed and if they get slighted, or if they feel rejected, or if they feel that they aren't being loved or treated in the way they think they should be. Yeah, it sends people perhaps to the worst versions of themselves.
00:02:16
Speaker 1: And that wasn't good. And we don't know these spolks and kind of imagine the pressure that they are under. But we always say that these shows show us something about ourselves and about relationships and lessons that can be taken. And Melanie is certainly be because she is the talk. Her name is the one trending on X this morning. I can't remember what was the thing that was right above, but it was kind of amazing. Melanie's name. Melanie's name has been trending all morning on X. She's what everybody's talking about. We will get a little more into how this was her episode, but it was This episode was driven by rogue. A few things there, drama, not on the guy side. I guess maybe we should have seen this coming, but the women appear to be going at it.
00:03:02
Speaker 2: It begins. Look, they all start out loving each other. Oh my god, you're so beautiful, but obviously they're all competing for men's affection all there in this villa. It is basically the perfect scenario for drama. You've got a bunch of women and everybody wants to feel wanted.
00:03:21
Speaker 1: But is this just it's just I guess it's kind of a growing pain, but a first few episode pain until everybody gets coupled up in a significant way. Right now, everybody's desperate to let me grab this guy before somebody else does, and this is just getting started. Is a lot of this and a lot of his behavior we're seeing right now is just a matter of we got to get through this first cycle.
00:03:40
Speaker 2: Yeah, well, I guess yes it can. But there are clear tensions that are building between a couple of the women, and look, I hope that they can figure it out. We actually saw something beautiful where you can have a disagreement or have an issue to bring up with someone, and if it's done in a sure way, it's amazing how it can actually work. But that is not what happened with Melanie. She got incredibly upset. She was already upset, and it was almost as if it was the final straw that broke the camel's back, and she.
00:04:11
Speaker 1: Was in tears. She was dropping f bombs, called the girl the bitch, and not to her face. Was in the confessional. We'll get into all that, and we have to mention know off the top of the impressions that another this was the worst kissing exercise that I am disgusted.
00:04:26
Speaker 2: Now.
00:04:27
Speaker 1: I love y'all, obviously, we love the show. We talked about the show. I just they're making a decision that they think is good for the show. It works for them, and I'm sure there's got to be some segment of the population that likes it. I'm just I just just not for me. We fast forwarded through a chunk of this show last night because this kissing game they play went on for about fifteen to twenty minutes in a one hour show.
00:04:53
Speaker 2: Yeah, it's you were actually surprised when we were fast forwarding through it. And full disclosure, we watched part of the during the halftime of the NBA Finals because you know, we had to get our Love Island in, but also we're clearly wanting to watch the Knicks play and win, by the way, But yeah, you were fast forwarding and said, oh my god, this is actually like fifteen minutes. It's a quarter of the entire show almost.
00:05:21
Speaker 1: And this one was grosser than Day one with the doors. It was disgusting. I guess you don't want to it's awful, and I'm saying it is awful. The game they played last night and it got physically sloppy, and you're I hate it. I hate that was the worst, one of the worst moments I have seen in all of my Love Island watching.
00:05:44
Speaker 2: Hiapan and I were snickering at your disgust because but you don't like any of those slimy things that they put people in. But I would actually say, like they could have done all the dunking and the sliming. That's fine because that created the tension because people chose who they thought some thing was about it. So yes, that creates dropping. But why do you have to then crawl over to your guy start making out with him, then go into a booth and make out with a complete stranger that you're surprised by. And every woman, one after the other made out with the same dude and then came back and made out with her dude. I am telling you the spit swapping. I hope all of them were basically like scre tested for every single possible disease from influenza to gnorrhea, because it's unbelievable how much saliva is swapped among everybody.
00:06:37
Speaker 1: Okay, let's stick there. Then I was gonna do that. Second, let's stick with the game. And the game the scenario. They're all sitting around a table. The name of the game was Boss Bitch. Fine, so they're all sitting around like a boardroom kind of a thing. Sitting outside the point of it is somebody whatever. The woman crawls around the board table, the boardroom table, she picks a guy to make out with that's not her guy she's coupled up with, and they do it on the table in front of everybody, in full on. This is not a peck, This is not even a makeout session. This is just short of sex.
00:07:12
Speaker 2: It is. What they're doing is stattling these guys, and the men have their hands all over these girls.
00:07:18
Speaker 1: Okay, then this is happening in people's faces, on the table, right in front of them. When the woman gets up from that, she goes into a little room that nobody else can see, and unbeknownst to her, they have a new bombshell, a new guy. They bring it in and he does a full makeout session with this woman who just made out with somebody else right there, but nobody else sees it. Then the woman comes out of that room and goes up on the table again to her guy and does a full on, just short of sex session again, three different guys in a matter of seconds. And I'm just I don't like it.
00:08:02
Speaker 2: I don't either. Fine, we love the show. We don't like that, and so if our remedy is in case anyone else has done this, we just fast forward through the games. Because I know that there's drama that we miss a little bit. But believe me, when they all go back, they discuss it and we know exactly what happened. Oh that okay, that person dunked to that person and kissed that person and said that because it all gets discussed later.
00:08:25
Speaker 1: Others are doing that. We've done that for what we hate, but I wonder if other people actually do that. I will definitely do it this season. That was a that was okay, that was the worst moment of the shut ups. I don't want to This is not a criticism, This is an observation, and this is how we're experiencing it. I'm not telling the producers do anything different, just saying what they have decided to do is not something that these fans of the show, like real fans, appreciate. The roads we get to what was I guess the moments or the Melanie played a role in the entire show. The recap is the see the show before her guy sincere yes pulled and had a conversation with the bombshell she had appreciated, so she got upset to the point she was in tears or felt some kind of rejection. Okay, so here we go. Now she's fired up robes. And this was the moment that I looked at you and Sabine and y'all thought, I don't even know if you said anything. You made a face because I saw this interaction in the women's dressing room was like, wow, they're that cool. Huh. Because Melanie was suggested I'm gonna go pull this guy and try to get a connection with and this guy, and she was talking about two guys who were in couples with the girls in the room, and the line the reaction was, we know how we're supposed to move with each other. I have what I know how respectful we are. Nobody's sneaking around. I feel like we're just open about it. That was just this cool like and I looked and I said, Wow, they're gonna be girls. Is that kind of cool about it? Is that gonna stay? I don't think you responded. You looked and made a face at me and kind of rolled your eyes, like wait, just wait.
00:10:13
Speaker 2: I think Sabina and I looked at each other and we laughed and we were like, yeah, it's coming.
00:10:17
Speaker 1: Yeah. I was sitting between you guys as a couch.
00:10:19
Speaker 2: I think we were like, it's coming.
00:10:20
Speaker 1: Okay. So that was a key moment in romes. That moment is important because it comes now and plays into everything. So go back to the game. We missed it, but this is the moment they talked about later Kada versus Melanie. All right, So apparently Kada made a comment during the game saying that Sincere needed a promotion.
00:10:44
Speaker 2: And Sincere has been interested in Kida because she's basically another version of Melanie, like he has a type, right, and obviously they're both gorgeous, so she said, Melanie says to her after they get back from the game and directly confronts Kada and says, why did you say Sincere needed a promotion? And Kita said, you dump me? So I was like, let me get my get back.
00:11:06
Speaker 1: So this started a very awkward moment there on that couch, right for these two going back and forth they end up doing. Was this the one where they did the fake huh? Yeah?
00:11:14
Speaker 2: They did. They like said fake things to each other with a fake smile. Oh, Mellie put on the fakest smile ever. It was scary.
00:11:21
Speaker 1: No, okay, it was scary, no, no, no. On online, she has been talked about and people are reposting that everybody recognized.
00:11:29
Speaker 2: Whoa, yeah, a little scary it was.
00:11:32
Speaker 1: It was disturbing. So now this brings us and we get to continue to bubble up to the big moment. Bro. So the bombshell that was in the booth, the new guy he gets introduced at the fire pit, wasn't corr All.
00:11:49
Speaker 2: The girls are drooling, like actively drooling over here.
00:11:52
Speaker 1: Yes, he is a six to four piece of man, right he is. He has built, he's stacked, got the curly haired, got the light skin, got the light eyes. Everybody's going crazy for this guy. And again he's already made out with all the girls. So he gets introduced, He gets introduced to everybody and says, hey, well, fellas need to talk to the ladies for a little while, essentially excuses the guys. So it's just Corbyn sitting there robes with all of the girls, and they are you characterize their behavior at the time.
00:12:20
Speaker 2: Oh, they were unabashedly just throwing themselves at him. That would be how I described it. But it was interesting because Beatrice had said before and we've been actually becoming just the biggest fans of this young woman.
00:12:37
Speaker 1: She's the grown woman in the building right now.
00:12:39
Speaker 2: It really is. She is so emotionally mature and so it just connected with herself. It's really impressive. But she was like, hey, Kenzi, and she actually had confronted Kenzie earlier about something she did that upset her because Kensi went and spoke to her man and she's like, you should have said something to me first, and Kensi said, oh my god, I never even thought about it. You're right, I should have. I'm sorry, and they had this amazing conversation. It can be done growing on me and it was really cool. So she was like, you know what, you should get first DIBs for the new guy because you're the single one, and we should we should kind of basically take a step back because we're all coupled up, so you can have a shot at him so you can stay on the show.
00:13:17
Speaker 1: What did you think about that?
00:13:18
Speaker 2: I heard really cool?
00:13:19
Speaker 1: Okay, I hadn't heard that on the show before. That actually makes sense. That should be the case, That should almost be the rule that they always get first dials. But I she extended that to her without the girl asking or even having thought about it. Rose I thought, is doing it for me right now?
00:13:35
Speaker 2: She's looking out for another girl with no with no skin in the game, and I thought that was really really cool. So what happens is though, when everyone goes around and it's around the fire pit with Corbin. The accusation was that Melanie, because she had been basically saying, it's rain and men and it's my day and it's going to be the summer.
00:13:54
Speaker 1: Of fun, and did you buy anything?
00:13:56
Speaker 2: She was feigning excitement because she feels hurt. Still buy some ci who, by the way, was telling her, I still want to be in a couple with you, but yeah, I still want to see what else is out.
00:14:05
Speaker 1: There, is the saying. Then, but it seems like she's just lashing out, trying to convince anybody who will listen that she doesn't care.
00:14:10
Speaker 2: She had a false expectation that they were already going to just like make it to the end. And then yeah, says she doesn't care, but clearly she does. So she decides to just abruptly in the middle of this conversation say I want to pull you to Corbin and just takes him from everybody like in them just when things were getting started, and the girls as soon as she left went off.
00:14:34
Speaker 1: Okay, two things on that one. What did you think about the move that Melanie made? Was there anything inappropriate about it or wrong or feel awkward?
00:14:40
Speaker 2: I thought it was awkward and strange, and I think it was performative and it was completely self serving. And I think if she was going to do it, I guess they didn't know he was going to come out then. But I just thought it was a little aggressive, and I understood whether girls felt like that was kind of rude.
00:14:56
Speaker 1: I think I get that completely. And then I soon I thought that I thought, well, man, it's a competition show. She's trying to get a man, make she made a movie, but she's.
00:15:05
Speaker 2: Trying to get her man. But she also still has to get along with everybody, so you have to consider all of the relationships, not just the romantic one.
00:15:11
Speaker 1: Okay, So they take off and go off to do their thing and they have another one of these riveting conversations. Well, here's seeing some really really great conversations. So not much happened. So the second party that I want to ask about, and you and Sabine, this is one where y'all. Y'all are are educating me on some of the stuff I'm seeing on the show. Well, I'm saying, bro, she didn't get twenty feet away and every woman turned on her.
00:15:37
Speaker 2: Oh they weeded? What was that? Why did she just do that? Are you kidding me? She's just doing it to make since youre jealous. I mean that was true. They saw right through it, and they're like, and she totally blocked Kenzie and physically blocked both Trinity. Trinity was like me too, I couldn't talk to him, like visually from him because she was so yeah, quite literally visual, physically demonstrative kind of blocking the other girls and then grabbed him. So yeah, they all started talking smack about her.
00:16:02
Speaker 1: Okay, so again typical girl stuff, you say. So she goes up, she has the conversation with Corbyn, she comes back down, sits on the same couch with the girls, and again Beatrice calls her on it and said, hey, you you amos get a little aggressive. You didn't leave an opportunity for Kinsey and kind of gets on to her. I wasn't. She didn't yell at. This was not a fight, This was not an escalated situation. But bro, use some language that I could see where Melani would have offended.
00:16:33
Speaker 2: I will say I don't think Beatrice recognized the emotional position or place that Melanie was in.
00:16:41
Speaker 1: None of us did.
00:16:43
Speaker 2: But it was brewing. We did. It was simmering, and we didn't realize how much it was actually boiling. This was and so it was this final It was the straw that broke the camel's back. All she had to do was hear one more person tell her she did something wrong, or she wasn't good enough, or she and she lost it. She she's it slowly bubbled up, she got defensive, and then it just exploded.
00:17:05
Speaker 1: Batteries used some of the words you should. I think she actually said to be calm or something. Used a couple things, calm down.
00:17:13
Speaker 2: I didn't say this, and she's like, first of all, do not tell me to call down. Yeah, those two words have never worked in any situation ever with anyone.
00:17:21
Speaker 1: That was one other, But this was one where Bea in the conversation, I would have advised using a couple of different words. If you all want to learn some lessons about conversation. Bea said a couple of wrong, just a couple of wrong things that were a little aggressive. It might have been a little offensive, but she was calm and I didn't have any problem. Did you have any problem with her calling Melanie?
00:17:43
Speaker 2: I actually thought it was the cool thing to do, because everybody's so quick to talk about people when they're not there, so I thought it was actually really And this is where Sabina and I were guessing. We're like, oh, she's gonna come back, and everyone's going to be like, oh my god, how was it was? What was he like? Did you have a good conversation? And Ba called her out and Ta was like, I need to tell you something, And look, I thought it was actually cool. She could have maybe said it a little bit softer, but I do appreciate the fact that she was honest.
00:18:14
Speaker 1: But as we've learned, honestly doesn't seem to be working on this show. Instead, it is setting people off. So stay here, we will tell you about the explosion by miss Melanie, and we wonder if she ever got that ten that she desperately wanted. All right, Robes, let's pick it right back up. Melanie is upset. She's getting off the couch where Bea just called her on her move with Corbin the bombshell and Robe. She gets up and this was the funniest moment. She gets up, she's walking away, and she walks over to and Zach where they're just chilling on this bed outside doing their thing ropes. This is going to go down in history for Love Island for me as one of my favorite moments all time.
00:19:14
Speaker 2: Well, and I actually felt so validated because and Sabina and I, I love that we're on the same page because yes, we know girls, and we've noticed the entire time. Kita, by the way, is a stunning woman, but she only hangs out with the guys. Like every single shot, she's either with Zach or she's with a bunch of guys. You hardly ever see her with the girls. So she's off like, yes with her man, it's noodling, and that's fine. But when Melanie gets up and she looks around, and she's so upset at the girls of the couch because she feels attacked. She feels like they've all just come after her. So she's running, like walking quickly, like like emotionally spiraling, tears coming out of her eyes, and she's looking for someone to talk to, and she sees Kate, who wasn't with the group of girls, so she feels like maybe she can kind of fill her in and get some support. That's what us girls want to do. We want to like bond and have some sort of validation. So she goes to kDa and she says like, I need some like can we talk? I need I need someone to talk to. Kada just looks up at her and goes hmmm, like like not having it and just basically was like, nah, it was amazing she and I honestly, I was shocked even for Cada, because I know she's not a girl's girl, at least she doesn't appear to be. But when another girl is emotionally upset, that is when us girls, No matter what you think about someone, honestly, you jump up because you've been there, You've been that girl, you've been her, you've been overwhelmed, you know you're spiraling, and you jump up and you help that girl. Kada was like, no, thanks.
00:20:46
Speaker 1: Ropes, this was I don't okay. We've had some issues with Kada. This is in my pro column for her. I loved this moment. I loved it because I like authentic moments. We talk about Bryce and why we love him now is because he's just this goofball himself. This was Kada staying on brand and letting you know exactly who she is. She just had beef with this girl a short time ago. She just had an issue and where they fake hugged and putting on in each other's face. And in that moment, she looked up at her and if folks, if you didn't see it this and she didn't say really a sentence or a word, it sounded like this, ah.
00:21:30
Speaker 2: Like nope, it was.
00:21:32
Speaker 1: It was a hard No, it was. It was just a hilarious moment at the time. So she doesn't move a muscle.
00:21:40
Speaker 2: Nope, and doesn't seem bothered at all that Melanie is spiraling. God, let's just go back to her early comment about why she said, since youre needed a promotion, you dump me. So I was like, let me get my get back, got it? And so that is exactly what that was to me. It was an extra bonus game.
00:21:59
Speaker 1: But she did it in the moment. She didn't have time to think and wonder. She just reacted to seeing this woman that she had a problem with. And so now that's the worst thing that could have happened for Melanie because now she has no support one woman over here. That's not what the other group and women I'm mad at just rejected me, so I can't go back to the women I'm mad at. Where does she go in circles?
00:22:26
Speaker 2: She literally was walking in circles. And Anaya she's one of my favorites. She is. We love Beatrice, but we also love Anaya. She is very sweet. And she gets up and she's trying to help Melanie, and that's in. Melanie just starts just spouting off, I need ten, I need ten, I need ten like her, Philly came out, I need.
00:22:45
Speaker 1: Ten and then the last time she said her the way they edited it out, it was I need fing ten and she cursed at the end. But she's walking around in circles, looking for somewhere to go, looking for somebody to talk, looking for some support.
00:22:57
Speaker 2: I felt for her on that one. Right or wrong. She was hurting, you know, I I.
00:23:03
Speaker 1: She is hurting in a way that we all don't understand but almost recognized to a certain degree. This is why I love these shows. We are seeing this stuff play out.
00:23:11
Speaker 2: This poor girl, I mean really, this is a this.
00:23:14
Speaker 1: Is funny that poor girl.
00:23:18
Speaker 2: Wow.
00:23:20
Speaker 1: Well, the last question I did have for you in pulling Corbin that move in trying to make sincere jealous in going after Cada. What is she doing? Is she doing everything wrong? Allready? Melanie seems to be making some pretty significant mistake.
00:23:43
Speaker 2: She's trying to feel strong, she's trying to feel in control, and she's desperately out of control. And so what that what she did wasn't the right call, But I know what she was trying to do. She was trying to feel in control. Isn't that what we all do when we feel stressed out, or we're spiraling, or we feel just scared and overwhelmed. We want to control something, we want to feel and control, whether it's cleaning. I can control this, I can make this environment this way because right now everything else is out of control. So I think by just taking him, taking the you know, the reins in her hand, She's like, I'm gonna, I'm gonna go after this guy because I'm gonna, I'm gonna forge my own way. I'm gonna, I'm gonna make my own destiny. She was feeling her strength or was trying to assert it, and it blew up in our face.
00:24:30
Speaker 1: Man, I hate we see it happening. It's playing out right before our eyes. This show is incredible, minus the kissing stuff. Just it is such a fascinating, like you said, an experiment. They are all don't even realize who's on the other side of that FISI bowl staring at them and watching every single move they make. But yeah, have folks, we are obviously keeping an eye on this show. I keep saying, ropes, they're losing me. I keep watching. I'm I'm not enthused about watching. I'm not looking forward to the way I often am. I can't wait. I'm like, what's gonna happen now?
00:25:09
Speaker 2: Well, as long as we have the fast forward button, we should be okay.
00:25:13
Speaker 1: We should be fine with that. Phocus. I always appreciate you spending a little time with us on behalf of my dear Amy Robot. I am t J. Holmes. Will talk to you all soon.
