Love Island (EP 7): Double Standards, Rising Tensions, As America Votes

Finally, no endless over sexualized kissing scenes in this episode, and we’re here for it! The islanders’ shaky relationships continue to be tested with three new bombshells in the villa. With tensions rising between Zach and Kayda, and Melanie and Sincere, we sense some new couples forming. Also, KC is a case study in being a loving partner with how he responds to Aniya’s hurt feelings. We share our votes for who we think Caleb, Jen and Sol should couple up with, and we’re willing to bet, most of America is on the same page.

Speaker 1: Hey, folks, it is Tuesday, June tenth, and forget everything I said yesterday about being done with Love Island. I'm back, baby, and this is once again after one show, one of my absolute favorite shows on television. And with that, welcome to this episode of Amy and TJ. It helped that there wasn't a kissing game in this episode, but that's not why Robes I'm back and I love this show again.

00:00:26
Speaker 2: Yes, because now it's back into the intra workings and complications and ego fueled insecurity riddled relationships. Love it, yes, but I do appreciate the fact that there was less kissing. Oh my god, it was a breath of fresh air. To steal a line from Sincere as he was describing soul, what did you say she was a breath of fresh air?

00:00:50
Speaker 1: Oh? Is that the line he used?

00:00:51
Speaker 2: Yes?

00:00:53
Speaker 1: Yeah, we're going to get into Sincere and Soul. This is season eight, episode seven, and it's amazing from one too. Every single episode I know I have and we've all been talked about this. The person we loved in episode one ends up being the person we hate an episode seven. Well, the person we hate an episode two starts growing on us by episode six, and it's just you go through these cycles, Robes, and I cannot believe we're here, that I'm actually saying Sincere is now one of my favorites now that he is moving on from Melanie.

00:01:26
Speaker 2: Well he hasn't moved on yet. There's still a couple. Okay, the door is still open. But it is funny Seer and soul like even their names go together.

00:01:35
Speaker 1: Oh oh, make make that Instagram handle Soul Seer right you want to call it? Uh, it works for me. But Robes, Yes, this is why I love this show. Robes. You saw this stuff play out, the pain, the egos, the vulnerability, the insecurities played out in real relation. They've only known each other a week. But Robes, there's so much here we identify of that was a mistake, That's what you should have done. This is what I can do better. We can see it from Afar and Robes. I always love these are real relationship issues playing out.

00:02:12
Speaker 2: It's true, and I think at first you might roll your eyes and think, please, these people have only known each other for a week, But it's incredibly intense. Think about it. You are immediately coupled up with someone you're sleeping next to them, you're making out with them, you're vibing them, everyone's watching. So yes, it's a pressure cooker of an intense relationship from the get go. So all of the things that usually come up in a relationship later on after the honeymoon period is over, are all coming up now because you've got temptation, you've got distractions, you've got all of this intensity, and you get to kind of see how relationships work in incredible pressure.

00:02:55
Speaker 1: But the problem with this one, Robes, is that after a week they're behaving like people who have been committed relationships for two years in that Yes, I expect you to respect our relationship. I expect you to not be up on somebody else. I expect you to be committed to us always. That thing after a week you wouldn't expect in a normal no relationship. But they are, like you said, in a pressure cooker. And also, Robes, the pressure is they don't want to get sent home, right, they're still competing.

00:03:23
Speaker 2: If you are left uncoupled, if you are left single, as they call it on the Villa, all you are vulnerable and highly likely you're about to get kicked off the show. So not only is it about being invested in a relationship. It's about staying on the show as a competitor. So you've got two pressures on top of one.

00:03:44
Speaker 1: Doesn't that cause people to act in ways maybe they wouldn't have or does it make them some of the ways and tendencies they already have become highlighting it.

00:03:55
Speaker 2: I think the best and worst of you comes out because you are under a pressure cooker. Yes, we all have insecure sides to us. We all have, and that's why I can even identify as people are making bad choices and doing the wrong thing or saying the wrong thing, or reacting the wrong way. We can see ourselves in all of those choices, in different versions of our lives and relationships.

00:04:20
Speaker 1: And that is why I have always loved this show. And now that we finally got into that, I'm like, Okay, here it is.

00:04:26
Speaker 2: Here's why I was waiting for this, and now we're at this point of the show.

00:04:30
Speaker 1: And so I was relieved. I've apologized for the producers of Love Island for questioning anything you were doing, but we've gotten back around to the stuff that I love. En roll up to the highlight here or the I guess really the center of this last show, and all the confrontations had to do with the game they played, this kissing game. They've been playing these kissing games, and when they bring in these new bombshells, who behind the scenes are sneaking around and kissing some of the coupled up people. Anyway, what I'm getting to here is that this episode was all about the girls now being upset that they're guys not by their own choice, but were chosen by the news bombshells to just make out right there in front of them. All the girls were blindfolded so they didn't even see it, but Robes now that they have heard about what happened with these bombshells, they all got pretty upset.

00:05:24
Speaker 2: They were very upset, and look, I totally first want to validate your feelings because there is absolutely a double standard, and you were going crazy because you were like, look at this. The girls are all upset now, and they did the exact same thing to the boys. So they laughed it off and said it was just a game. I was just playing around. But when the guys do it, all of a sudden, you've threatened the couple, You've betrayed the trust. And I agree It is an absolute double standard. There's no question. You cannot put any other spin on it. And I would argue the guys had it worse because in that kissing game, they they weren't blindfolded, and they saw their women who were blindfolded behave in a way that if it were reversed, it would have been relationship ending. Now, I will also say that because the girls were blindfolded, they might not have realized just how bad it looked. They might have gotten swept up in the idea that they were playing around, and they didn't actually take a beat to think, WHOA, what does this look like? Not good.

00:06:29
Speaker 1: Robes, this is a And I don't even want to take it completely with I know it's a game, and it's a different situation, a different pressure cooker, but I was fascinated to see it all play out. Every woman, every single woman, not just a little annoyed a man. I hate that we're talking tears. We are talking accusations of not being in this or fair to me or betrayala. It was over the top in taking the guys to task. That was to me at least so telling and remarkable to watch. It's not just my feelings are hurt, like you're a bad person. You portrayed this relationship by doing the thing that I did with that guy two days ago. That's fascinating to see it play out. And I think a lot of women will look at that and say to guys and explain this, Explain this, explain this, and absolutely justify just like the girls in the show have done. Melanie, I think showed a little bit robe. She showed a little She was a little apologetic, but I thought that was desperation. She thought she was about to lose her guy.

00:07:36
Speaker 2: Well, she was begging at the end. She was begging at the end. But I do think it's fascinating. We had this conversation as we're especially watching Anaya explain to Case why she was hurt, and you were just kind of a gas because you thought, are you kidding me? She was straddling a guy making out with him right next to Case yesterday, and yes, that is correct, But I also said, look, I do think it was cool to see her, whether it was justified or not, explain how she was feeling. At least get it out. And then he casey man, he said and did all the right things. I got to say. He reassured her. He didn't tell her she was being ridiculous, even though he could have. He actually just said, I hate that I hurt you. I hate that you feel this way, and you know, apologized and she calmed down immediately, not what probably you would have said, maybe more aligning along the lines of what Zach said. I thought how Zach handled it was really cool with Kada. He just said, hey, I just want to let you know, and well, we'll get into Zach because then he he did act defensively, but that night he was hurt right, and he told her, hey, I told the girls that I was closed off, that we were a thing. But he was like, you were up there straddling this guy enjoying it way too much, and that hurt my feelings. And so he didn't have that acknowledged. And she did apologize. But then he said, and so I kind of take back that I'm closed off thing. I'm open for business.

00:09:02
Speaker 1: But that is great point because a lot of them seem to have that attitude. And this is what hurt people often do. Right. You want to hurt back, You want to get revenge in some way. Now, if you had time years with somebody and something went down, you'd be able to say that hurt me. I don't want you to ever do that again. I don't ever want to feel like that. I don't want to be in that position. He's playing a game. There's been a week, so it's so true. Okay, I guess this is where we are. Why would he then go and commit double down in a commitment to someone after a week after you just showed me that.

00:09:33
Speaker 2: Well, I think he's really feeling her and he's afraid of getting hurt. And then she's when he told her that he was closed off and was only going to be with her, she was so happy. So the next morning to wake up and have him go, yeah, never mind, I think we should. We should, you know, be open. She ran straight for Corbin. Sorry, she went straight for Caleb, and he went straight for Jen the blonde. Yes, so they immediately. It was just a amazing to see hurt feelings all show you. That's what happens.

00:10:04
Speaker 1: And this is why I say, Robes, there are relationship lessons if you can step back and just watch that, bless your baby. Sorry, if you just step back and watch this. Plus you again, man, you're allergic to my bullshit. But if you just step back and see what is happening Robes and watch it play out there, you see some behaviors you don't ever want to emulate. You see some things you never want to do in a relationship, and Robes part of it. Sometimes if you gotta take an l you gotta take a little loss, you gotta take a little hurt to the heart, pavee when this happens. But you see them retaliate. You see even in some of their words, what does what you're gonna do? Man, I can go do that too, like it's a tit for tat. And that's so those lessons Robes I saw.

00:10:47
Speaker 2: It's crazy. And Casey could have absolutely said, oh yeah, you think I hurt you, you hurt me? You were He didn't even go there. He didn't point the finger at her at all when he totally could have, And he just said, I'm so sorry I hurt you. Man. That was restraint and that was a loving thing to do, and it was selfless. I was so impressed with him.

00:11:11
Speaker 1: And there it is, Robes why maybe the biggest relationship lesson in the show this last episode. Listen, He just listened, didn't defend, didn't deflect.

00:11:24
Speaker 2: Just listened, and he absolutely could have said, girl, you were doing that thing too, like.

00:11:31
Speaker 1: You need to stop, you need to stop now. She loved to hear it, and she loosened up, and she once again put him in the position where you shouldn't have done this, and that he never pushed back and let her. But it's not reasonable, robes, and it doesn't feel good for case. It's week one, but robes in month one, in month six, if month twelve, in year five, that's a tough thing, robes. She wasn't did she apologize at all?

00:12:00
Speaker 2: And hear that because I didn't hear him bring up any of her actions, he could tell she was genuinely hurt and scared, and I think he went into comfort mode. Look, he is a nurse assistant. He works at a nursing home where he cares for people. I actually can't remember where he is from. But I saw the nurse and him come out, and it was actually really beautiful. He put his own feelings aside, and you could see in his face he was like, come on, what But he decided to listen to her and react to her lovingly instead of getting defensive. It was impressive.

00:12:34
Speaker 1: That is man, everybody, man, woman. That is how you handle an argument or when somebody's pissed at you or your loved one has but you just stop and listen, Just listen to what's taking place and we can work it out. But that's step number one. Yes, O, Caseee, when I saw it, you say you thought about him being a nurse, a nursing assistant. I like to see his family like he comes from some people that he how about a bunch of women are around him? Yes?

00:13:02
Speaker 2: I agree, and may I say this? He chose not to call her on anything, right, He just accepted his lumps and apologized for taking any action that made her feel insecure or bad. And then I would argue, if something else comes up, he can say, Babe, I didn't point it out then, but I need you to acknowledge that you also, like if he has capital now, not that you're using ammunition to throw back, but he can offers that she will listen to because she will say, oh, you're right, you didn't bring that up and you could have. That's all. I think that there eventually, hopefully will be some recognition of what he did.

00:13:40
Speaker 1: He took up. Yes, Casey, is is my hands that He is my favorite. I couldn't the brother who opened the door at in the first episode and nobody on the other side wanted him.

00:13:53
Speaker 2: Isn't that amazing?

00:13:56
Speaker 1: Amazing that royalty handled that. We were impressed, like, wow, he's an ouch. He took a stride, so that was all great. He was also great last night with Melanie, and we do need to get into Melanie and Sincere, I thought he was great with her as well in calling her on her bs.

00:14:13
Speaker 2: With that earl. You're playing girl, you're playing him? Yeah, and he said it with a smile on his face. I think when I watch Casey, it reminds me that you can say anything and be honest with everyone, but you can do it in a kind way.

00:14:26
Speaker 1: Yeah. He didn't seem to have harm or malice and what else he's saying anger, nothing. He seems to be his joyful with that little playful smirk on his face the whole. This seems like he sees everything that way. But he was talking to Melie at the time, and he was talking to her robes and we got to go back. I have to ask you about the back and forth during the game and the bed where they're all kissing and hands are over and she's blindfold and supposed to be trying to find her man by kissing all the guys. She decides to do a back and forth between her guy, Sincere and Corbin, who were right next to each other. Many time does she go back and forth?

00:15:01
Speaker 2: I think she went back and forth, like I think she ping ponged twice, So for like kissing Sincere then Corbyn, then Sincere, then Corbyn then Sincere, she went back at least twice.

00:15:13
Speaker 1: And you really believe her when she said I didn't know which one was mine.

00:15:17
Speaker 2: No, I don't believe her. She also had a smile on her face. Now, she might not have recognized that it was Corbin specifically, which is where I think she was trying to land her plane, but she certainly knew the moment she kissed Sincere and she chose to kiss someone else beyond that, that's where she made her mistake, and that's where she thought she was playing this game, like, oh, be careful because you know I have choices too. I think that was kind of maybe in the back of her mind. But she, as she pointed out later in the broadcast, she's sabotaging herself by trying to play hard to get or keep her feelings, you know, at least closer to the vest, giving herself options when she knows she wants him, but she's afraid to fully admit it.

00:15:56
Speaker 1: It backfired, and it has continued to backfire, to the point now that Sincere is over it, Sincere is over, he is her because there's a few things he can point to. I know it's only been a week plus of the show, but there are some things you can point to that it seemed intentional, that she was inconsiderate, like she was trying to send a message. You really are right here. He knows you're going back, and you know this is him. Why are you over here playing and kissing back and forth? Well, you know what that feels like. You imagine whoever you're with making out with you and then turning to the person to your left and making out, then coming back to you and making out and then turn into the person.

00:16:35
Speaker 2: Ooh, that's terrible.

00:16:37
Speaker 1: Think about that.

00:16:37
Speaker 2: That is terrible.

00:16:39
Speaker 1: She did that on purpose to him, she did, Okay, this was one and then oh yeah, add to that when they bring out the bombshells, the new bombshells.

00:16:47
Speaker 2: Oh, she was screaming and jumping up and down, and I was thinking, huh, he's your type, and she later admitted he wasn't, so she was just doing it for sure, and.

00:16:57
Speaker 1: He had to see that. And he is sitting that laying on the bed next to her with his arm handcuffed to the bed, can't move, and is watching her jump up and down, going over the top like we just won the championship, cheerleader type stuff or another guy coming in. What is she doing?

00:17:16
Speaker 2: She thinks she's playing a hard to get game, but that does not work because that just feels awful, and it feels manipulative, it feels performative, and it certainly doesn't feel loving. Look, if you're in it for the long haul and also knowing America's watching, I know that this is maybe too strategic for anyone to even be considering. But you know, you look like an asshole. Like it's far better to love, to be sincere, to try to be as authentic as possible, and to get your heart broken in front of America than to be the villain because the heartbreaker.

00:17:49
Speaker 1: Because right now that's what happens.

00:17:52
Speaker 2: It feels powerful to be the heartbreaker. Yeah, but actually you look like an asshole.

00:17:57
Speaker 1: You know what, tell folks on was it this EP episode? It might have been the one before, but it was a line. I don't think we got a chance to talk about. But this is something that people say and do it in practice. I need to make sure the other person wants me more than I want that person.

00:18:13
Speaker 2: Yepes.

00:18:15
Speaker 1: Anybody, if you want a relationship Lesson, please don't let that ever come into your.

00:18:19
Speaker 2: Snce here talked about it. He said he has his friends who won't date anyone unless they know the girl likes them a little more than they like her. It's all about a power struggle and that's what you see play out with folks who need to feel like they're in control, and you can spot them right here on the show.

00:18:37
Speaker 1: And again, Ropes, it's probably coming from it's not playing out well, but it's probably coming from a not an awful place. Somebody that's been hurt, that's been making bad decisions. It feels powerless, yes, and doesn't want to be vulnerable anymore. And you have to when it comes to love, even if that love is on an island in Fiji in front of everybody in the world. You just have to do it here, folks, we will let you know where our votes will go, because at the end of the episode they did let everybody know they want you to vote on who you think the Bombshells should pick. It ain't even close for us.

00:19:16
Speaker 2: Stay here, Welcome back everyone to our Love Island USA edition of Amy and TJ. We're talking about episode eight. It dropped last night. I'm sorry, did I jump ahead? It's episode seven, Episode eight is to tomorrow night, Season eight, episode seven. Wow, I just nailed that.

00:19:44
Speaker 1: But it would be easy next time just to say eight eight.

00:19:47
Speaker 2: I'll get it next time for sure. But yeah, So now the show ended with a vote, and this is where it gets kind of fun, because, look, these producers are brilliant. They give you something every single day to talk about. It seems to be the number one trending topic on X almost every day. And now you get to weigh and now you get to help decide who these bombshells are going to pick, and that's going to upend all these couples. Like everything's all tossed up and around. And so we have our votes. I think we're in agreement, and it feels like most of America will be on the same page.

00:20:24
Speaker 1: Okay, yes, and you know we haven't even acted. We haven't even talked about the bombshells at all. Yes, klub, Caleb, Jen and Seoul. Correct, Caleb is from the South brother from South Carolina. Think he lives in North Carolina.

00:20:37
Speaker 2: Charleston, South Carolina.

00:20:38
Speaker 1: He's in Charleston now, but from North Carolina. Originally correct Soul, I can't remember where she's from, but she says she's a wait.

00:20:45
Speaker 2: She lives in LA.

00:20:48
Speaker 1: She's from Orange.

00:20:49
Speaker 2: She's from Orange. Yes, and she lives in LA. And then Jen lives in La as well, but she wants to move to Miami, which certainly picked Gabriel's interest.

00:20:58
Speaker 1: Yes, so we got one model, an elevator repair guy, and a waitress correct out the new group. All right, so first impressions. I like the Caleb be seems nice enough. I actually said he's too nice to be on the show.

00:21:13
Speaker 2: Caleb reminded me of Ryan Gosling in The Notebook Ladies. Anyone else get that vibe? I think it's kind of obvious. He's like that sweet awe shucks, emotional but cute with the dimple blonde, curly haired guy from the South. Yeah.

00:21:27
Speaker 1: But he's Ryan Gosling. He just seems like a solid dude. Not too much to him, but you don't want too much to him. I actually like that guy. Haven't figured out the young lady, Jen Jen questions of her.

00:21:38
Speaker 2: Gen seems sweet enough, she's yeah, I don't know a lot about her. I know that Gabrielle seemed really, really really into her and Bea tried to act like she didn't care, but she did a lot. Well you know better, she said, if someone can walk in and turn his head, then he wasn't for me anyway, says the person who's defensive at all.

00:22:01
Speaker 1: And then Soul. So Soul comes in the pix. The haircut, they say, but very short hair. Seems like a sweet girl, big smile. She actually she looks joyful.

00:22:11
Speaker 2: She had a hollyberry vibe to her and yees seems look just at them, but she seems sweet. She seemed grounded. She seemed kind of perfect for Sincere.

00:22:24
Speaker 1: So there you go, Robes. The two of them got. She obviously caught his eye when he first when she first came in, but given all he's been dealing with, he was with Melanie trying to make it work because he didn't have another option that he liked. He does now he.

00:22:39
Speaker 2: Really likes Soul, so I have I actually, I am gonna say this, I have zero doubt, zero doubt that America is going to choose that Soul picks sincere and everybody's going to be cheering. I think we can all agree with that.

00:22:52
Speaker 1: And if and if anyone wants to study this show later of how to come in as a bombshell, study her. She wasn't too aggressive. She was At one point I pointed out, she just kind of touched his hand when she was laughing. She's doing just enough and playing this game right to where you don't hate her.

00:23:09
Speaker 2: No, And I actually think Jen did a good job too. I don't think either one of these bombshells came in came in guns blaze and thinking I'm gonna steal your man, because we've seen plenty of them do that and you immediately get an ick feeling. I thought both of them were respectful and sweet, even if k were in sexy lingerie. Yes, they actually yes, and Kay, they all came in very respectful. It was a nice group of good looking people.

00:23:32
Speaker 1: Look, if they all stayed on the show, I would be okay with that same you said a nice girl, I have to I'm only throwing this thing because it was a moment you pointed out just to enjoy time ago. The outfits they were wearing, I mean this fun and playful. I didn't notice on that were they all wearing the same one?

00:23:46
Speaker 2: Well? No, there were slightly different versions, but it was Kada look again, stunning girl model body. But there was a point because the way they have the microphones, she's walking and it looked like she literally was completely naked. I mean I could see her complete and total body, like the the teeny G string she had on from the back like and she it was back list. It just like looked like I was staring at her naked body and it felt really wrong.

00:24:15
Speaker 1: As crazy as sound, I didn't even notice.

00:24:18
Speaker 2: You're so used to it now you're like, yeah.

00:24:20
Speaker 1: Well it might be that, But you know, I was relieved that I like this show again after this episode. So everybody spills to vote. This was the same as the last coupling that didn't seem to be a whole lot of drama, and it doesn't. This seems to be pretty easy about who these bombshells should picked.

00:24:35
Speaker 2: The only So the only one I would say is Jen is up in the air. Who would you pick for Jen?

00:24:40
Speaker 1: For Jen?

00:24:41
Speaker 2: So a lot of people use Sabine gave us her votes. Who did she want for Jen? Jen? And Gape gabriel I think that they seem like a good vibe. She wants to move to Miami. He lives in Miami. He's already said he likes blondes. I do think that's going to be really bad news for Baoutries because she has not even made a play or a move for anybody else, like the cop. That's the only other guy that she liked. She liked Sean and Sean's gone, and so truly, if Gabrielle and Jen get together, which I think is highly likely, Batrice, maybe yeah, she really does go.

00:25:21
Speaker 1: Then go to Caleb. Who's Caleb pick? What do you want him to pick?

00:25:26
Speaker 2: Look? On one hand, yes, everyone says Kenzie and Caleb. There's a lot of flirting, a lot of kissing, a lot of natural sparks. They're both from the South, he feels like home. Obviously that's going to be an interesting choice. But I do like Kenzie and Corbyn because here's the deal. Corbyn comes in as the bombshell, and I thought this was a shocking move for him. I'm surprised. He said, Nah, he really wasn't interested in any of the other bombshells and not really interested in any of the girls. And he made it very clear. I appreciated this to Kenzie, You're you're the one. I'm not saying so one else couldn't come in, but right now you're the only one that I want. Umm.

00:26:05
Speaker 1: I could also argue that he pretty quickly realized that those bomb shows were not interested in him.

00:26:10
Speaker 2: That's hilarious.

00:26:13
Speaker 1: I mean, it's the same thing. Baby. You gotta let me make sure I make the first move and not get rejected. So I gotta he knows Kinsey is his only shot a stand on this show, and Kinsey went got got goo goo over the guy that she says is exactly her type on paper.

00:26:29
Speaker 2: Yeah. So that leaves Corbin and Beatrice potentially oh sorry, and Mel completely single. So what happens with them? Because someone's gonna have to couple up with someone else? I mean, you know what Mel and Corbyn. Mel was going after Corbyn. That was the whole reason why. Since youre was upset, She's going back and forth. There you go, there you go, get with you as mel and Corbyn. I bet you that maybe where we're headed.

00:26:56
Speaker 1: Next they deserve each other, you know what.

00:26:58
