Love Island (EP 14): “Thank Your For Putting Me Out Of My Misery”
Two more islanders were voted out of the villa and while it might not be shocking who they sent home, it was surprising why the women chose Gabe over Caleb. It was also pretty damn satisfying to hear Sol’s reaction to the villa, calling it “couples island” rather than “love island.” Also, the episode was worth a watch solely for her confrontation with Sincere. All the drama on Thursday sets up an explosive night in Fiji tonight, with the boys outraged by the girls’ decision to dump Gabe because they claimed he was always looking for the next bombshell.

00:00:02
Speaker 1: Hey, folks. It is Friday, June nineteenth, and as we record this, we are just hours away from the next episode of Love Island. However, we need to talk about the last episode, episode fourteen, and Soul is the hero that Love Island needed right now. And with that, welcome to this episode of Amy and TJ Robes. Soul's dms are gonna go off the charts when she gets back. Yeah, Soul is leaving the island.
00:00:30
Speaker 2: Agreed, she's leaving the island, but I also appreciated before she left the island what she said to Sincere and then what she said when she was given the opportunity to speak after she was voted off the island by the boys.
00:00:43
Speaker 1: She had a good tone. I really we've been impressed with her from the start, and she didn't get a fair shake in there. We'll get into that a little more. But the other headline Robes that seems like is going to call some problems later. Gabe is out of there.
00:00:56
Speaker 2: Gabe got voted off the island, and I do believe. Look, everyone has their own takeaway, but at the end of the episode, the girls decided to vote Gabe off the island, and I think this is my personal opinion that they were unnecessarily harsh. Please I think that them. They always ask you to give an explanation as to why, so obviously anyone listening can watch the episode. So Yes, America got to vote. The favorites were safe, the folks who had the lowest scores were vulnerable, and then the boys got to vote off the girl, and the girls got to vote off the boy. And the girls gave this as an explanation as to why they voted off Gabe. They said that he had been given multiple opportunities to find love and that he was seemingly just always waiting for the next bombshell to appear, which I actually disagree with. He actually came in as a bombshell. Let's remember, so he started off at a disadvantage because everyone's coupled up. He has to try to find his way to connect with someone, which is Difficultit on.
00:02:00
Speaker 1: That though, he came in as a bombshell, but differently, he came in on night one, so they introduced him. He has still been an og. They can call him a bombshell all day. But when he came in as a bombshell, he got to pick two girls y'all coming with me, isn't that how the yes, sir.
00:02:15
Speaker 2: And we also actually know this because of the backstory, because of the young lady whose name has escaped me because she hasn't been a part of the show, but because she dropped the N bomb multiple times in social media posts, she was removed from the show within like what hours of the show premiering. So Gabe, from what we can gather, was initially intended on being an original Islander and he was going to be potentially coupled up with there was going to be an even number of men and women. But because they had to last minute get rid of an Islander who had some very difficult racially insensitive comments to over when they removed her from the original cast, they had to do something with another person. So they chose Gabe to be a bombshell, and so he was already kind of unfortunately. I feel like he he didn't get a fair shake almost because of that controversy. Oh.
00:03:16
Speaker 1: I thought he came in. I thought he was somebody that they liked. He was somebody that grew on me. He was funny, he was authentic, he was Brazilian, he was crazy. He didn't he wasn't the best with English. I just thought he was what he was. Yes, some an F boy someone and they probably used that term several times with him. But Robes he stayed with and was in too beat Remember.
00:03:38
Speaker 2: He cried when Beatrice got kicked off. So I actually I don't think it's fair. Yes he's hot, Yes he's Brazilian, Yes he's sexual, and yes he's not afraid to talk about it or be who he is. He is a Latin god. I mean, he really is a gorgeous guy. It doesn't mean he doesn't have depth, it doesn't mean he doesn't feelings, and it doesn't mean he isn't a good person. And so when the girls started saying, basically to him in front of America, you're an F boy and that's why we're kicking you off the island. They didn't say that, but that's what they were saying.
00:04:12
Speaker 1: Oh bro, who else did he he connect with or have anything with? But Ba Trees and this young lady? No one.
00:04:19
Speaker 2: So I actually don't understand. I actually think it's completely unfounded. I think they were stereotyping him and had they put him in a box that I don't think he fit in. Necessarily. I think it was unfair.
00:04:31
Speaker 1: I'm making sure we're not missing something. Ba Trees. From the very beginning, he was into her, they were talking, and I also think Robes he may have been in a disadvantage because he could not express himself to them in English. He could not fully talk about his heart or maybe where his head was, and he was expressing himself in the physical way as a tattooed toned, good looking do from Brazil. I'm trying to think. I do not remember him, and he didn't get a chance to reject Batrees right, it was a whole vote situation that wasn't his doing.
00:05:01
Speaker 2: The only thing he did was explore a possible connection with Kenzie Kenzi before Jen Jen. He was put with Jen, So he was exploring a connection with Kenzy. He likes blondes, fine, fine, but it was almost like that was held against him in some strange way. So this is setting up for a pretty explosive I'm only imagining, but the teas that they had at the end of episode fourteen, looking ahead tonight Friday Night's episode, we are now the guys are pissed. They're pissed that the girls chose Gabe and we haven't heard this, but I'm assuming they're upset that the girls chose Gabe to leave the island over Caleb.
00:05:47
Speaker 1: Who we've all wanted to leave the island, not because we don't like him, but because we do like him, Like, you're a nice guy. It was a great girl in Carolina waiting for you somewhere, and it just he didn't make the connection. And so they made the decision to allow a guy who is not coupled up and who has had no connection and the one he had a connection with dumped him. Let's let him stay around here and stick around a little, Laura and give him an opportunity. When Gabe is in a relationship at this point.
00:06:17
Speaker 2: Seemingly a good one. Jen was blindsided because she obviously didn't know that he was on the chopping block because she wasn't a part of the conversation because she was on the chopping block. So they're standing up there. She has no idea how these girls are coming to their decision.
00:06:32
Speaker 1: She just got saved and sitting next to the women that she doesn't know just voted off her love.
00:06:36
Speaker 2: Yes, So that look, I just I don't understand where all the hate was coming from for Gabe. I just don't know what he did that was so wrong that made him not worthy of staying.
00:06:50
Speaker 1: Give them, I guess if I want to give them space and credit for thinking they were doing the right thing and making an authentic, a real decision.
00:06:59
Speaker 2: Corbyn wasn't gonna go, But actually the boys were afraid. It was corbyin and if you saw Corbyn's face, he looked concerned too.
00:07:07
Speaker 1: The way that Melanie was going through the thing. But I just I don't know. Caleb's a nice guy, and we're gonna do Caleb a solid It just doesn't seem like wanting to be nice to a new guy should trump the guy you now have history with who is in a solid relationship. We are judging you that when they send somebody else in here, you're gonna dump Gin and we're gonna make that assumption about you and end your relationship. Okay, okay, Oh god damn, y'all. But it's a game.
00:07:37
Speaker 2: Is a game. I don't think I actually don't think there was strategy. I think this was all emotion, and I think emotions were at a peak. And it was interesting because I felt like all the couples were finally kind of settling into one another. Repair had been made by those love letters that they read aloud to one another, where any concern or suspicion towards one another was kind of alleviated, at least temporarily because they felt this love. Now the boys are hot and they are questioning the girls decision.
00:08:10
Speaker 1: Yeah, we had a little something better here as a group. You're not doing Caleb wrong by being loyal to the group that you've built. So maybe somewhere robes and all the editing stuff got left on the cutting room floor. That stuff happened with Gabe that they don't like this guy, I didn't see it. I'm trying to see if their strategy. Do they have a better chance now that they have a potential strong couple out of the way, that's the only strategy if we break up Jen and Gabe, I don't think.
00:08:38
Speaker 2: But here's the deal, Jen and Gabe. I don't really think we're jumping off or popping off the screen. I mean, yeah, they're beautiful to look at, but it was kind of boring. I wasn't really like I didn't feel strongly about either one of them. So I actually think strategically speaking, if the Islanders were actually being strategic, you would keep that couple because pretty much anyone with a personality or a anyone love or that probably they would not be They're like, it's funny as Latino and gorgeous as he is and has beautiful ashes. They were kind of vanilla.
00:09:10
Speaker 1: They were like, okay, as much as we say Rose and you've just described about him this Latin lover, right, Well, I don't know if I've seen a man cry harder on this show than he has.
00:09:20
Speaker 2: That's true. He's in touch with his feelings, he feels I.
00:09:24
Speaker 1: Mean, god, that's a weird judgment. Again, they maybe think they're doing the right thing, and they're doing right by Caleb. They maybe even think they're doing right by Gabe. But it sounded like, we're gonna make this decision for you. It's the best thing for you. Some of that tone was weird.
00:09:39
Speaker 2: It sounded I think that it look if they I think that was what set the boys off. It was less that they voted Gabe off and it was more about the reasoning behind it. I think that really set them off because there was some insinuation that he was not there for the right racings and he couldn't. He was never going to.
00:09:59
Speaker 1: Be sad, not capable of staying with one woman in here. If they keep sending shiny new toys.
00:10:05
Speaker 2: That is what they said, that is.
00:10:07
Speaker 1: That's that's to I just I don't know how you're and I don't you know what robes. It sounded like they weren't making a determination of keeping Caleb, sound like they just wanted to get rid of Gabe. It sounded like this, get him out of it. There is no argument you could make. Robes are a difficult one. The Caleb, you should stay. You got a good connection going, you got a good You're such a nice guy, You're a good asset. It's like we need to get a poison out of the out of love island. That it seemed like more of a determination or a judgment about him and how they feel about him.
00:10:41
Speaker 2: Maybe because he didn't let me, let me throw this out there. Here we go, Okay, this could probably get me into trouble. But I actually just this thought just popped in my head. Could it be that none of the girls felt attention from him and they felt slightly rejected by him? He never really he never made the moves on anybody he never went out of his way to try because he was always in actually a very solid whatever relationship he was in, he was in, and he didn't he didn't he didn't test the waters. He didn't go say hey, wow. The only person initially was Kenzie. But he never once went or tried to romantically go after any of the other girls, and maybe they felt offended. Oh see, yeah, he only wants one thing.
00:11:22
Speaker 1: I'm not going to speak on that from the girl thing, from the girls side.
00:11:24
Speaker 2: I just I just thought about that and thought that maybe, look, if that is the case, I'm not saying that's the whole reason, but I do think on a subconscious level, that could have played a role where you felt like a silent rejection because he never came on to you. Because he is so good looking and he is so yes, all.
00:11:44
Speaker 1: Of those things positive. He found someone he's sticking with that connection.
00:11:49
Speaker 2: But why did he never see what I had to offer or see what I'm all about? He never gave me a compliment. I just wonder if that played a role in any way, shape or form. So I have to say I was surprised at their choice. I one hundred percent thought it was Caleb now not surprised about Soul. When we come back, we'll talk about Soul being kicked off the island or kicked out of the villa. But man, she had some pretty solid moments before and right after that happened. And welcome back everyone to this Love Island episode of Amy and DJ. We're talking about episode fourteen. We had two islanders kicked off. We just talked about Gabe's departure, and we we mentioned Soul because she did have some fairly I think, powerful things to say first off, before it came to a vote. I appreciated, and I was here for that conversation that she had with Sincere. I was waiting for someone to finally, I don't want to say expose him, but at least honestly tell him that how he has been acting is unacceptable. And I think anyone in America who's watching and look. I know that they were voted as one of the favorite couples. Mel and Sincere, and I get that they've had a very dramatic so might call it toxic relationship, but I thought she called him out perfectly.
00:13:30
Speaker 1: She might have done damage to him winning the show.
00:13:34
Speaker 2: Agreed, this was.
00:13:35
Speaker 1: Well done by her. We have watched him for several weeks, and we try to he's a good guy. He's confused, he's playing the role, he's playing the game. He supposed to explore that. That's not the problem when you look one person in the face and say, I'm not gonna go kiss that girl again, i am not gonna be in a relations I'm not gonna explore I'm not gonna pull her. When you say that to a woman's face and then ten minutes later, go do the exact thing you said you weren't gonna do, and you do it in her face. He did that to Melanie.
00:14:06
Speaker 2: Melanie couldn't even sleep in her bed for two nights.
00:14:09
Speaker 1: So he does the same thing to Soul. He's looking her in the face, telling her how much he likes the connection and ropes. He went back and forth at least two or three episodes and four times twice to Melanie, twice the Soul telling them something to lead them on, and completely flipped on them. In the other conversation with the other woman, he messed up, and he messed up bad. But he doesn't seem like he know. I was trying to give him credit. This conversation hurts.
00:14:37
Speaker 2: Yes, because basically what she called him out was for being dishonest and selfish, and that is exactly what he has been doing. He's been only considering himself, his needs, what he wants, and he has not taken any temperature. He hasn't even considered just and he saw how Melanie was destroyed, how mel was so upset, she was emotional, she couldn't sleep in the room. And yet he was like, yeah, I can get her back in two seconds. I mean you definitely feel him kind of walking around thinking, yeah, it's just my choice to make and I don't know what I want yet, so let's just see what happens. But look, she told him, soul told him you're dishonest. She drops some F bombs because she was angry, but I don't she didn't say fu or go f yourself, but she was like, f dude, Like you literally looked in my face and said one thing, and then you did the exact opposite, like you are not truthful. And then he goes back to tell mel yeah, she said f you to me like a couple of times. Like he all he heard was something that didn't happen.
00:15:42
Speaker 1: Or he intentionally misrepresented. Don't know. But back to the conversation with Soul, this is this was the worst moment I've seen sincere have. She has a real gripe if he doesn't understand that and why that is a problem. But Robes, he attacked her his response, you're no angel. He attacks her that this is a bad this is a relationship lesson.
00:16:10
Speaker 2: We've all been there.
00:16:11
Speaker 1: There you go. She has like she is dropping so many f bombs. You know she's upset. You gotta listen. You just have to listen. You have to validate, you have to and if you don't even understand or disagree with what you did wrong, you know something you did upset her. That's enough for you to just listen. Rodes When he flipped it on her and he started laughing at one point while she's genuinely upset, Roes and like, you're no angel. She absolutely said, what did I do but come in here and listen to you. All I did was come in here and boo up with you. And he tried to find a way to make her the bad guy. When this is one situation. Robes can't find anything that she did wrong other than enter the building.
00:16:54
Speaker 2: Yeah, I've actually and I know nobody likes to be pitied. So I don't mean this to be condescending in any way, but I true have felt bad for her from the jump, from the beginning, because look, it's hard to come in as the bombshell everyone. She said, this isn't love Island, this is couples Island. And I just came in too late, you know what.
00:17:11
Speaker 1: I thought that was an honest answer. And is it possible maybe they tweaked the show a little bit. They did come in late. You got all these couples and she didn't, you know it, Rose, That's one thing. It went beyond that, and this is where I felt maybe worse for as she spoke and just described like I walk around, I'm not even a part of a friend group. Nobody welcomes me in. I can't do Okay. Yes, she could go fight and try to. Hey, guys, gonna come talk to you. But Rose, there's some part of them that has to understand how difficult it is for her, and I think that was on the ladies to embrace her.
00:17:44
Speaker 2: I agree with you, And this is when women don't do things well. Oftentimes we do tend to be and the guys were tribal too, but not the same way I have seen this. Any woman listening, y'all know exactly what I'm talking about. We get a tribal and if you think someone's a threat to your girl's friendship or your girl's relationship, you're gonna be like, oh, yeah, we're all together. She's the enemy because they were all friendly with mel I understand how it happens, but this is literally we are watching a sociological experiment of exactly what happens in real life, but it's being basically exposed into Petri dish that we're all watching. It really is remarkable.
00:18:28
Speaker 1: Am I supposed to be understanding and dismissive and say, well, yes, the women do. This is different because of the environment, and they are competitors. They are every woman in there you're competing against.
00:18:39
Speaker 2: Yes, But I'm saying, in the real world, any woman who you your friend, your Melanie's your girl right sincere you know she has genuine feelings for him, and I think that is undisputed. Girl, there's another girl coming in to take her.
00:18:52
Speaker 1: Man.
00:18:52
Speaker 2: Who are you gonna like? Girls are like you have to take sides, like it's this thing, okay, And that is what played out and I did feel sorry for because she didn't do anything wrong.
00:19:01
Speaker 1: She got pies in the face, got insulted, all these things.
00:19:05
Speaker 2: You know what she said at the end, which we laughed. I clapped almost, I mean mentally, I clapped when she said, thank y'all for putting me out of my misery.
00:19:12
Speaker 1: Well done, Sol. So Soul is going to have men coming out of the woodwork.
00:19:16
Speaker 2: She's gorgeous.
00:19:17
Speaker 1: She is.
00:19:17
Speaker 2: I was looking at her standing up there. I was like, damn, that girl is beautiful. Her body is sick, and not that that's what matters, but she is going to be just fine. And I did feel bad for her.
00:19:30
Speaker 1: And she seems like a real one. The way she was talking to Sincere. She could have done a lot worse, and she went as hard as she needed to, even though I would say she could have gone more. That was real pain, That was authenticity, That was sincerity with her without the tears. I'm not gonna let you see me like that.
00:19:52
Speaker 2: I think she was done crying, but I think she was.
00:19:54
Speaker 1: Strong and that. I don't know, man, I like that moment with Soul and Sincere. I wanted to liking so much in the beginning as little boy energy, right, But you know.
00:20:03
Speaker 2: He's immature, and I think that's part of what it is. Babe. I actually think, ah, I don't know how old he is. Look that up, but I actually think, you know what we were trying to figure out. Yes it's selfish, Yes it's indulgent, but I also just think it's wildly immature. Like I think he is childlike. I think that might be his biggest vice. But I will say there are two moments that I am hoping for in the future. He's twenty five, Okay, well we were both married hit that point in our lives.
00:20:30
Speaker 1: Old enough to learn some of these lessons. Maybe not.
00:20:33
Speaker 2: Maybe it depends on his environment and how he was raised, obviously, But here are two things. Here is my wish list for what comes next. Number one, I just kept thinking, damn, look at Gabe, Damn, look at Soul. They should go back to wherever they're sending them as they get booted off the villa and go have amazing sex. They could be a gorgeous couple. That was my one wish. Number two, go ahead, no, do you have thoughts.
00:20:59
Speaker 1: On Gave and Soul having sex? I do not.
00:21:03
Speaker 2: Just whatever, going to have some fun together. And laughing it up and all of that. Number two, I am so curious to see how Sincere behaves in Kasa Amore because we know how he rolls.
00:21:20
Speaker 1: I mean, they should have learned their lessons by now. This is obviously he's not gonna Who are they going to send in there. They can't send anybody in there that's going to break up Melanie and Sincere babe.
00:21:29
Speaker 2: But all the boys go to another villa where there are the same amount of women, new women, super hot women who they can all hook up with.
00:21:42
Speaker 1: And know they're all They're all in relationships now committed relationships. This is you've seen the show before, right the Saint Temptation Island. Kasa Amore is Temptation Island. That is exactly what happens. They might all break up in the next episode. The tease was was hot.
00:21:55
Speaker 2: Oh you know who was the angriest, It seemed Zach and the women were outraged that the boys were outraged. So this is gonna get good.
00:22:07
Speaker 1: Even in the teas you could see immediately defensive and they just they women are going on the attack. This is crazy, these things they play out. I love, love, love this show. Sorry again to the producers that I was angry about the kissing games in the beginning.
00:22:20
Speaker 2: It's gotten better.
00:22:21
Speaker 1: I came, I'm back in love.
00:22:23
Speaker 2: I actually think that they listened to America. I don't. We were not the only ones complaining about the No. I didn't. I'm not gonna be no. But everyone was kind of grossed out by it. So let's have less kissing, more relationship drama, and more lessons to be learned.
00:22:39
Speaker 1: When it's some more because they're doing it in the theaters.
00:22:42
Speaker 2: On and we're gonna go to the theater.
00:22:44
Speaker 1: Second, So this is coming up in a few days.
00:22:47
Speaker 2: We're let's get our tickets. We're not doing it, yes we are, Okay, stay tuned. My bet is that we're going to the theater. But we shall see, all right. And with that everyone, thank you for listening to us. I'm me Roebuck alongside T. J. Holmes. We'll talk to you soon.
