King Charles Reunites With Harry, Meghan And Grandkids After More Than 4 Years!

King Charles Reunites With Harry, Meghan And Grandkids After More Than 4 Years!

It didn’t seem possible earlier in the week, after a contentious back and forth between Buckingham Palace and Prince Harry over whether the Prince was invited to overnight at the Palace while he was in London. Despite the public ugliness of that dispute, and the fact that Harry was denied security for his family while in the UK, somehow a reunion was arranged for the estranged family. Buckingham Palace confirmed King Charles and Queen Camilla received Prince Harry and family at their country residence just outside of London Friday evening.

00:00:02
Speaker 1: Hey, the folks, it is Friday, July tenth.

00:00:04
Speaker 2: Then, look, we can all go a little while without seeing family. But when you're the King of England and you ain't seen your grandbabies in four years, well that is why today is such a big deal. And with that, welcome to this episode of Amy and TJ Rogues. I'm not a royal watcher. I'm not engaged. I don't read tabloid headlines. But for whatever reason I care.

00:00:32
Speaker 1: I know about this one.

00:00:33
Speaker 3: No, this does matter. This is a big deal.

00:00:36
Speaker 4: This is a royal reunion that happened just a short while ago, four years in the making. The last time Archie and Lilla Beet saw their grandfather, the King, was the last time you and I, well, no, I guess it was the second to last time you and.

00:00:52
Speaker 3: I were in England for the Queen's Jubilee in June of twenty twenty two.

00:00:56
Speaker 4: And that's crazy to think, right, And that's the last time they saw their grandfather. And Lila Beet actually was celebrating her one year birthday, so she doesn't remember Grandpa. Doubtful that Archie does either. He was what three at the time. There was no there's seven and five, So, yeah, this is a big deal. So King Charles and Queen Camilla officially received Harry, Megan and the kids today.

00:01:26
Speaker 1: That is that's cool.

00:01:29
Speaker 2: And you say officially received, it's you should be able to swing by your dad's house, I guess, But that's not how it works in the royal world. But we weren't sure if this was going to happen. We weren't sure if Megan was going to join it all. We weren't sure if the kids were going to join it all as a part of this trip.

00:01:45
Speaker 1: And this trip has been.

00:01:46
Speaker 2: Talked about for quite a while, Rose, I guess, initially talked about with great hope, and then it went back into the same old nasty royal back and forth and with some embarrassing headlines. And then it's wrapped up with this. So I guess if this was the outcome, that's great. But this has been this is a hell of a culmination to this trip.

00:02:10
Speaker 4: Yeah, it's been a hell of a few years, first of all, and it all began. The riff started when Harry and Meghan sat down with Oprah. That kind of blew up several relationships.

00:02:21
Speaker 1: Man, I swear to god, I do not exactly what's the problem. What started all this?

00:02:27
Speaker 3: There were accusations of racism.

00:02:29
Speaker 1: That the family, it's the British ru The family.

00:02:32
Speaker 3: Was asking how dark Archie skin was going to be?

00:02:35
Speaker 2: Wow, somebody accused the British royal family of being racist.

00:02:42
Speaker 3: That began some of the riffs.

00:02:43
Speaker 4: And then look on top of that, obviously Harry releasing.

00:02:49
Speaker 3: His book, his autobiosphery when was there I believe that was last year.

00:02:53
Speaker 4: He detailed moments where William had physical altercations.

00:02:59
Speaker 3: With him for his wife later apologized for it.

00:03:03
Speaker 4: But look, this has been ugly, this has been messy, and all has not been forgiven.

00:03:10
Speaker 1: Man, why did they do? Were they promoting something.

00:03:13
Speaker 4: Or I think they were trying to speak out because they felt like they were being attacked. They talked about William, They talked about Camilla releasing basic like their hounds on like pr hounds on the press to release negative headlines about Meghan. So they were trying to defend themselves. And the point the Finger.

00:03:36
Speaker 2: Interview, it was bad. My jaw was dropped listening to some of the things that.

00:03:40
Speaker 4: Were correct and some things have never been okay since Obviously they brought the kids when the Queen's platinum jubilee happened. That's a big deal. And then when the Queen died just a few months later, we were there for that as well. They left the kids behind and just Meghan and Harry came quickly came and went for the King's corn. Harry quickly came and when did not speak with his brother. And it should be noted we'll get into what we know, very little, by the way, about what happened at this reunion today, But what we do know, Prince William zero plans on spending any time with his brother.

00:04:18
Speaker 3: Yes, sad to me.

00:04:20
Speaker 2: What is their problem? No, no, no, no, I'm not criticized. I'm saying what is the actual problem.

00:04:25
Speaker 4: Because I would say, almost certainly Harry and Meghan have spoken out and directly accused both of them of bad behavior.

00:04:34
Speaker 1: Why would they do that?

00:04:37
Speaker 3: I don't know, because.

00:04:38
Speaker 4: If you ever had hopes of reconciliation. Obviously, Harry grew up in the royal family. He understands how precious the public relations campaign is around them, how closely guarded all of that is, and to go against it is a cardinal sin of source. And maybe even one would say an unforgivable one. So I think he knew more than anyone when he decided to speak out and get detailed about certain grievances he felt he had against his brother, that that might indeed be irreparable.

00:05:10
Speaker 2: Well, that's where we are. That's I knew what you're saying. Yeah, I yes, it's a shame we keep saying.

00:05:18
Speaker 1: I just that's tough.

00:05:20
Speaker 2: I mean, I don't know people on a side team Harrie or team William. I just the stuff I remember you're saying, Maybe just why put that stuff out in the public and you feel like you want to, you need to, you have to, it's good for you.

00:05:32
Speaker 4: Fine, But man, I think Harry is defending his wife. I think that is at the cruxt of a lot of this. He is defending his woman, He is defending the mother of his children. He is defending the woman he loves, and he felt like his family, the royal family, was using their power and their stealth like ability to malign the woman he loved, and he wanted to speak out and wanted to protect into That to me is what it seems like, which I think in a lot of people's eyes, especially in this country, makes him noble.

00:06:07
Speaker 3: I think a lot of people look up.

00:06:09
Speaker 4: To him as a as somebody who is a good guy, who is defending his wife, who loves his wife and children, and has defied his own family in doing so.

00:06:20
Speaker 2: You can find ways, can't you to defend your wife without disparaging your family? I do think because you're because he essentially call these folks bad folks, call these bad people, and he knows them better than anybody. Yes, but but ros I don't know. That's a tough one. I mean, it's just family is just family, and it's difficult and it's awful, and I can't imagine it's awful sometimes, I'm saying, but I can imagine being in that behemoth of a organization.

00:06:49
Speaker 1: Your family is an organization.

00:06:52
Speaker 4: That goes back centuries. So yes, we know that William was playing in a charity polo match and wins are not too far away outside of London there while he while Prince Harry and Meghan and the kids were meeting with Charles and Camilla.

00:07:10
Speaker 1: So say that whole thing again.

00:07:11
Speaker 3: So William was.

00:07:12
Speaker 4: Playing in a charity polo match, and I believe Princess Kate was watching him while Harry was meeting with the King, so he had somewhere where he had to be.

00:07:24
Speaker 2: It's just a funny thing to say, why didn't you meet with your brother because he was at a polo.

00:07:29
Speaker 3: Match, Yes, a charity charity polo match.

00:07:33
Speaker 1: It's the princess.

00:07:34
Speaker 4: So he has an official reason why if anyone were to ask, I don't know, but he has something to fall back on. No, but that was noted by folks. That was what was going on at the same time. So yes, we know that the So we know that Buckingham Palace actually officially acknowledged that the meeting took place.

00:07:56
Speaker 3: That is a big deal.

00:07:57
Speaker 4: They don't always make statements, they don't eat even respond to a lot of press inquiries. But Buckingham Palace confirmed today Friday evening in London afternoon here that the King and Queen hosted the family.

00:08:12
Speaker 3: At High Grove House.

00:08:13
Speaker 4: Earlier in the afternoon, the Palace described the meeting at the King's private home in Gloucester. Sure she wait, Gloucester, I cannot say it, Gloucester Share, Gloucestershare. Thank you. I said it well before, but now I couldnt. As a private family occasion and therefore no details and no photos would be shared.

00:08:35
Speaker 3: I was a little disappointed by that.

00:08:37
Speaker 4: I would have thought it would have been so cool to see them all together. That would have been a powerful message, that would have sent a powerful image of reconciliation and just maybe given hope to folks who might be in a similar circumstance have a strange family members. There's always hope, there's always a possibility of reconciliation. With enough time, people can come back together. Anyway, maybe we'll get a photo one day somehow.

00:09:05
Speaker 1: I get that, but that would be for us.

00:09:07
Speaker 2: And if this was what they needed for them, and to be private and keep it private, and we don't even know how well it went right.

00:09:15
Speaker 3: We probably won't find out.

00:09:17
Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, and hopefully it went really, really well. I love to hear that this did take place. I was you remember when King Charles was at the White House when he came to DC.

00:09:26
Speaker 3: We were hoping he might swing over to LA.

00:09:29
Speaker 2: You're this close to your son and maybe the sun could dip over with the kids.

00:09:32
Speaker 1: I think the grandkids part of it.

00:09:34
Speaker 2: I mean, just to think these kids are the grandchildren of the King of England and they have no relationship with him. They should be spending summers at Buckingham Palace. They should you just you have an opportunity. There's just there's something special Robes. It's just it just is. And to think they're missing out on something that so many other people would just die to be a part of, and they were just lucky enough to be born into it and they're not getting a chance to experience it. That's a shame on the parents. I mean, And they don't know their cousins. How many cousins they got.

00:10:09
Speaker 4: Yeah, they've got well the three of them.

00:10:13
Speaker 1: Come on, man, I hate it. Obviously we hate.

00:10:16
Speaker 3: Cousin is tough too, it really is.

00:10:19
Speaker 4: And to think how clothes Harry and William were, or at least it appeared they were growing up when they lost their mother. They shared that trauma, they shared that bond, and it's just sad to think that they don't even speak now.

00:10:31
Speaker 2: I think the kids in La look and sound like Americans, probably right, And the kids over there have little British accents, right, they have the means that those kids in London should be flying over to LA and hanging with their cool southern California cousins, and then they should be going over and spending time right, they have the mean that's just what should be happening, is that I hate this man. They don't know their granddad who wears a crown.

00:10:59
Speaker 4: Well, this was a baby step forward in that direction.

00:11:03
Speaker 3: And when we come back, look, well, this was a rough week.

00:11:06
Speaker 4: So I would actually say today was almost a happy surprise ending because the week started off incredibly rough. And we'll tell you what we know about the rest of the stay for Harry, Megan and company. Welcome back everyone to this episode of Amy and TJ. We are talking about a royal reunion that wasn't necessarily expected. We were hoping for it because the beginning of the week was really, really tough. We had Prince Harry telling to the world, Hey, my dad, Buckingham Palace invited me to stay while I'm in London. I've accepted the invitation, only to hear hours later the bucking and Palace said, oh, that was not available anymore. The Prince responded too late, we didn't have time to accommodate staffing. He will, in fact not be staying at Buckingham Palace. That's rough when you can't even come home and spend a night at your family palace.

00:12:11
Speaker 2: That was we knew better. I mean, I'll crash on the couch. I mean he's coming home.

00:12:21
Speaker 3: I think there's a spare bedrooms.

00:12:23
Speaker 2: It's coming home. I know you can't just unlock a door. I know what they talk about staffing. I don't know what security had and all these things. And I know these things are planned days and whatever in advance, but that was a bizarre thing. I just can't imagine that.

00:12:37
Speaker 4: Yes, and so Harry's camp alluded to the fact that there was a judgment expected, and it did come down where Prince Harry, along with six other high profile folks, were suing the parent company at the Daily Mail. The verdict was set to come out the day he would have been staying at Buckingham Palace, and there was this notion that the King would not want to be associated with any comments Prince Harry might make, and therefore rescinded the offer to stay because he just wanted to distance himself from that lawsuit. Harry had a tough week because yes, he lost that lawsuit and was not able to get any sort of vindication for his accusations against the tactics paparazzi used against Meghan and his family.

00:13:20
Speaker 3: So that had to be frustrating. So yes to have his father say.

00:13:24
Speaker 4: Never mind, have the British court say nope, uh, too bad that you feel invaded by paparazzi. Oh and by the way, taxpayers aren't going to help with your security or your families, so talk about feeling unwelcome in your home countries.

00:13:41
Speaker 3: So it was a tough week.

00:13:42
Speaker 2: I didn't see how it's being covered. His visit is being covered there if it's positive or not.

00:13:48
Speaker 1: But it's just robed. That's it.

00:13:51
Speaker 2: Why come home? It's one of those things. But Babe, this is where I can imagine going, leaving the United States, and hell, even not being welcome back to Arkansas.

00:14:01
Speaker 4: I can't imagine that it hurts more when it's your hometown. Now, look by all the he has been on a tour of sorts for some charitable organizations he represents, including announcing the one year until the Invictus Games. But he's been visiting children's hospitals and charitable organizations. He's been posing for photos and he seems to be loved and well received.

00:14:23
Speaker 3: People love Prince Harry.

00:14:25
Speaker 4: Who doesn't love I don't think now Megan might be a different story, but I think generally speaking, the folks in the UK love Prince Harry.

00:14:35
Speaker 1: Okay, well, yes to it.

00:14:39
Speaker 2: Well, I'm just any list you look up of the most favored royals, he and Megan are at the bottom. Excuse me, Prince Andrews at the very bottom, I swear to you, Sabine Ropes. Any list, Yes, if you look at the favorability of the royals, those two are at the bottom, along with Prince.

00:15:02
Speaker 4: Because they walked away from their royal duties. It seemed as though they gave up an honor and it felt offensive to a lot of people.

00:15:12
Speaker 1: To me too, You're like, why would you do that?

00:15:15
Speaker 2: I mean, that's supposed to be We see this in movies. I'm sure you could probably name a few rom coms or this happened. Some guy gave up the crown, right, And I guess it's supposed to be special, but it is. It's some kind of way not seem to to honor the family name. It's some case like this is a responsibility you have that you were born into and even if you don't want it at some point. And I hate that sounds critical of him, but that was perplexing. Yes, Robes and we can't work this out. There's too much at stake, This is too big of a deal. The Queen is too important over the It's just we can't work this out.

00:15:53
Speaker 1: I know, I hate Still we can't.

00:15:55
Speaker 2: Or it should be a beautiful story, that wedding, the Mama from Compton, the black Mamo riding, and the Queen's royce over to the This is beautiful, the black preacher from North Carolina, was it?

00:16:08
Speaker 3: He loved?

00:16:09
Speaker 4: Yes, But then Megan says, when she had suicidal thoughts and was suffering from postpartum depression, the Palace would not help her. They didn't give her what the mental health tools that she needed, and she was close to death. And so yes, she had a lot of animosity towards she spoke as it spoke as if she were prisoner, so to speak. It was very much kind of what echoed from Princess Diana. And I wonder how much that resonated with Harry, to hear his own wife echoing things he had heard his own mother said.

00:16:40
Speaker 2: Wondered with the public as well, if they saw some of that and gave a little sympathy or a bit of a past. And I'm sure it is difficult I'm sure it's I mean, damn near impossible.

00:16:51
Speaker 4: Yeah, So, I mean, look, this is a tough, tough situation that I do think unfortunately a lot of people might actually it might resonate with who have similar rifts in their own families, whether it's because of a woman or an in law or somebody somebody doesn't like in the family. And look, this is tough stuff that even Royal families are not immune from. So we know that Harry has one more charity engagement scheduled for tomorrow on Saturday, and that's it. So they don't know how much longer Harry and Megan and the kids will be in the UK, But there has been talked that they might visit the grave of Princess Diana, which I think would be just pretty damn cool for the kids to see it, for Megan to see it, just to bring them back there.

00:17:38
Speaker 1: They won't see the public won't see the kids, right for sure.

00:17:41
Speaker 3: You know what, I've never seen the kids.

00:17:43
Speaker 4: They've been It's been pretty remarkable how well they have been able to keep their faces under wraps. I have never seen a photo of them, only the backs of their heads, so that's been of obviously the utmost. I can understand why they don't want their kids' faces floating around the world. They don't trust the they don't certainly don't trust the British press, and so yes, they have taken extreme measures to make sure that does not happen. But look, we hope they get to enjoy their dad's home country that they really truly don't know. Archie was born there but spent the first year of his life there. But this is their first actual memorable trip back, and hopefully they will be able to have many more.

00:18:24
Speaker 1: They don't know this place. That's amazing. It's not home. These are American.

00:18:27
Speaker 3: Kids, right, isn't that wild?

00:18:29
Speaker 1: American kids who are in line for the throne?

00:18:32
Speaker 3: Isn't that wild?

00:18:35
Speaker 4: They are, They're way down, yes, but they are officially in line for the throne. So yes, look, this is a baby step. We hope there are some bigger leaps later, and we will of course be watching all the developments from across the pond.

00:18:48
Speaker 3: We always appreciate you listening to us. Everyone. I'm Amy Roboch alongside TJ. Holmes. We'll talk to you soon.
