Kids Shot on Coney Island, Brooklyn Bridge on Fire, Evac on National Mall ... Happy 4th, America

Unfortunately a mass shooting broke out on Coney Island after the fireworks display, leaving 4 children and 4 adults shot, one woman remains in critical condition this morning. Just a few miles away, the iconic Brooklyn Bridge caught fire during the massive fireworks display over the East River, firefighters were able to put out the flames fairly quickly, but it was an alarming scene in the middle of the show. And over in Washington D.C., the main event, Trump’s rally speech was delayed until 11pm after severe storms threatened the area, forcing an evacuation of the huge crowd that had gathered on the mall, with organizers asking thousands to seek shelter.

But I guess with those celebrations came a lot of activity with mother Nature and then unfortunately violence breaking out on Coney Island. That was a disturbing story to wake up too.

Yes, they had to postpone that literally people were since scrambling told to seek shelter yesterday in DC, right before the President spoke. You might have missed some of that if you went to bed early. It was a late night there, and of course the fire on Brooklyn Bridge again sounds crazy. We'll get into that, but let's start there in Coney Island Roads. We woke up to that headline. Yes, eight people shot, but among them were four kids. Yeah, a couple of them really really young.

Speaker 2: It's really scary and sad. Yes, the city was a buzz yesterday, certainly with the parative ships and the aerial flyovers culminating with fireworks all around the Five Burrows, and so yes, people were out with their kids. Fourth of July is a family celebration, and.

Speaker 2: Yes, it begins I believe early on in the day. Coney Island is a meccha to go to here in New York for Fourth of July. I got the big hot dog eating contest. I believe Joey Chestnut reclaimed his titles. So of course, Yeah, it's a place. They've got the ferris wheel and the shoreline, and it's iconic to go to Coney Island on Fourth of July. So it's disturbing to think that and the person or the persons responsible are still at large. By the way, they found a weapon there at the scene, but we're talking about four children ages six to sixteen shot like little kids.

Speaker 1: And again they are right at about the exact age you would expect kids to be running around out there. Yes, this happened at ten ten thirty at night, but Robes, it's a holiday. Everybody, every family was out late actually last night because the fireworks shows were going on, so that part of you expect kids to be out, but Robes to hear. And I asked you, I think you were the first that brought this to my attention. Eight people shot. Was this an isolated, like a one mass event or were they several shootings? And from what I can tell, this was all one event.

And we're talking about a six year old who was shot in the stomach, a seven year old who was shot in both legs, a twelve year old shot in the leg, a fourteen year old shot in the leg, A twenty one year old woman is actually in critical condition right now. So this is serious. We don't have a lot of details right now. I'm sure this was something well well, police were very much present around the city, but and they always anticipate problems in certainly something like this could happen when you have a crowd. It's always kind of in the back of our minds, unfortunately here in America with what we've been experiencing with gun violence. But still it's shocking to see that this happened on a night of celebration with families out, kids out. Who would do such a thing.

What this was about, what the motive was, why anybody started firing. They have no idea if one of these people who were shot was the actual target. We do not know. But again added to what was in a lot of ways with a lot of headlines at least Robes a little jarring yesterday. All eyes of course, though we're on DC. All eyes have been on DC for weeks. World of getting ready for the two hundred and fiftieth, whether it's stuff that the President is building, the pools, not quite acting right, whatever, But the big event was last night, the big culminating event, Yes, biggest fireworks display in history, they tell us, and the President going to speak, Ropes, what was he he was scheduled to speak nine? We should say, the crowds have been a part of the story on the mall. They have been meager, they just haven't really been there. But yesterday last night, it looked packed the National Mall. People were there, they were ready to hear the president, they were ready to see the fireworks. And then, yes, we've had severe weather. It's obviously most of you know. We've had intense heat. Many of you have been experiencing it, and with that oftentimes comes stores so storms, excuse me, And so an evacuation of the National Mall was ordered around seven pm.

Speaker 1: And again this was hours before he was supposed to speak. And Robes. This is on a day where all these people are having to go through security, secret Service security. They've been out there and lined.

So these folks are standing around trying to get through all these these magnetometers and get through all this stuff, and they finally get through, and you're telling me we gotta leave, and a lot of folks didn't leave. They had storms started to come in robes. This is dangerous. Secret Service didn't mess around evacuate. They even put out places you can go to seek shelter robes. It was kind of it was serious, not kind of serious. This was serious. On the mall on the day of the big celebration, it was just like of all the things with the artists, with the pool, with the crowds, with the president doing its own thing for the anniversary, this was almost perfect.

And not only was it exceptionally hot and sticky, and anyone who's been to DC, I lived in DC, it is so humid there. It just where it's situated in the world. So add that to the high temperatures, and it was miserable. And now you've got the threat of lightning. And look, it was the fourth of July thirty nine years ago. You know very well my parents and my uncle were struck by lightning at a family gathering on the fourth of July. It's notorious for hot weather and storms. And yep, there we were in the National Mall. You are you are a lightning rock. It's just a that's the worst place you can be is on a grassy field with you being the tallest object. You are literally a lightning rod. And so can you imagine if they had not ordered the evacuation, if they had left people and a lightning stretty, someone dies on the National Mall waiting to hear President Trump speak. That is not at all what anybody needed or wanted.

Freedom to fifty, the US Secret Service, US Park Service, National Park Service, the Federal Emergency Management Agency, and all public safety partners are asking all guests to evacuate event grounds and seek temporary shelter in a nearby building. Now The New York Times is reporting Freedom to fifty and the rest of their statement they list several places where you could go to the Part of Education building, the Department of Agriculture building, the rrs IRS, Rothery're sending people to national monuments, the Smithsonian and whatnot to seek shelter. New York Times is reporting and a lot of people went to those places and the doors were locked. They didn't have access to them. After this was put up, and then they had to put up and update it. Uh list of places. There you go, baby, it was just a mess again. Nature happens. Nothing you could do about the weather. But of all the things that have been happening with freedom two fifty, now this like you said, Hey, that kind of reads. It's every People have jokes like what in the world. This thing has just been a disaster.

But he and also think about I even mentioned this because he rolled out and literally rolled out, so he mentioned old timers. These were amazing, exceptional veterans who served our country. Remember the picture Even had with him at twenty and then Obama at eighteen or something. He just he's been absolutely Robes focused on age, and his age seems to be bothering him. Speaker 2: Because I was just observing how the only people he was bringing out and he was honoring them, for sure, it was sure a great honor for them to be up there and to be recognized, But I kind of felt like he wanted to compare. He wanted people visually to see he looked much younger. I mean, when you're standing next to a one hundred year old and you're eighty, you look pretty healthy and fit and young. And I really think that that might have been a visual he was looking for where he has these great heroes up on stage with him who are all significantly older than him, so therefore, just by comparative and visually, he looks younger, stronger, healthier. I do think that that could have been a very deliberate decision for him in bringing those heroes up where it was, yes, a way to honor them, but also a way for him to look younger, stronger, fitter, more virulent.

We actually got the the fireworks about thirty minutes before they were scheduled to go off around nine oh five versus nine thirty because they were concerned about lightning and we certainly saw some heat lightning in the distance, and so we actually got a little earlier show than expected, which I was not upset about at all. It was very cool, and so as we're watching all of the fireworks over the Hudson River, we had quite the show from morning until evening. It was really at New York City. I just have to give it some love. They really did an amazing job yesterday despite the heat, people came out and watched an honored members of the military from around the world and members of our military up in the sky with an air show, a tall boat parade of boats, and then culminating with the fireworks.

They had four barges on the east and people were looking at those beautiful fireworks, and I was getting pictures from my daughter, Ava was having a party in Brooklyn, and they could see all of those fireworks. But the Brooklyn Bridge became, unfortunately a light show of its own.

Speaker 1: Yeah, that's again, I don't I'm not exactly clear on what the damage that was done. But a fire broke out, Smoke was going up in the air. Yes, folks, the Brooklyn Bridge, according to the fire wooden was on fire. The bridge was on fire. Now we don't know the extent of the damage this morning, but people robes who were watching this fireworks display, they knew pretty quickly that this wasn't a part of the show.

But officials say, this is why we closed the bridge, this is why we clear an area, and we could even see it from our vantage point, because I've never I've never known what it takes to have these barges. But they clearly had a police boat blockade. Significant for that very reason, because yes, you're dealing with explosives and anything can go wrong. You've got winds, you've got all sorts of stuff, missfires. Who knows, so we don't. It's we're assuming at this point that a fireworks something a number or something.

It didn't feel like we like we are one nation, but we're divided up. What one country but many nations? Is that how they say it. It feels like you all had you all celebration over there. You all had your celebration over there, we all had our celebration over here.

A lot of folks here for the World Cup dressed in red, white and blue with Uncle Sam hats and like really going to town with just kind of celebrating America who weren't even born here. And I asked you, I think you were the first that brought this to my attention. Eight people shot. Was this an isolated, like a one mass event or were they several shootings? And from what I can tell, this was all one event.

And we're talking about a six year old who was shot in the stomach, a seven year old who was shot in both legs, a twelve year old shot in the leg, a fourteen year old shot in the leg, A twenty one year old woman is actually in critical condition right now. I'm sure this was something well well, police were very much present around the city, but and they always anticipate problems in certainly something like this could happen when you have a crowd. It's always kind of in the back of our minds, unfortunately here in America with what we've been experiencing with gun violence. But still it's shocking to see that this happened on a night of celebration with families out, kids out. Who would do such a thing.

We should say, the crowds have been a part of the story on the mall. They have been meager, they just haven't really been there. But yesterday last night, it looked packed the National Mall. People were there, they were ready to hear the president, they were ready to see the fireworks. And then, yes, we've had severe weather. It's obviously most of you know. We've had intense heat. Many of you have been experiencing it, and with that oftentimes comes stores so storms, excuse me, And so an evacuation of the National Mall was ordered around seven pm.

They had storms started to come in robes. This is dangerous. Secret Service didn't mess around evacuate. They even put out places you can go to seek shelter robes. On the mall on the day of the big celebration, it was just like of all the things with the artists, with the pool, with the crowds, with the president doing its own thing for the anniversary, this was almost perfect.

You know very well my parents and my uncle were struck by lightning at a family gathering on the fourth of July. It's notorious for hot weather and storms. And yep, there we were in the National Mall. You are you are a lightning rock. It's just a that's the worst place you can be is on a grassy field with you being the tallest object. You are literally a lightning rod. And so can you imagine if they had not ordered the evacuation, if they had left people and a lightning stretty, someone dies on the National Mall waiting to hear President Trump speak. That is not at all what anybody needed or wanted.

New York Times is reporting and a lot of people went to those places and the doors were locked. They didn't have access to them. After this was put up, and then they had to put up and update it. Speaker 2: Because I was just observing how the only people he was bringing out and he was honoring them, for sure, it was sure a great honor for them to be up there and to be recognized, But I kind of felt like he wanted to compare. He wanted people visually to see he looked much younger. I mean, when you're standing next to a one hundred year old and you're eighty, you look pretty healthy and fit and young. And I really think that that might have been a visual he was looking for where he has these great heroes up on stage with him who are all significantly older than him, so therefore, just by comparative and visually, he looks younger, stronger, healthier. I do think that that could have been a very deliberate decision for him in bringing those heroes up where it was, yes, a way to honor them, but also a way for him to look younger, stronger, fitter, more virulent.

We actually got the the fireworks about thirty minutes before they were scheduled to go off around nine oh five versus nine thirty because they were concerned about lightning and we certainly saw some heat lightning in the distance, and so we actually got a little earlier show than expected, which I was not upset about at all. It was very cool, and so as we're watching all of the fireworks over the Hudson River, we had quite the show from morning until evening. It was really at New York City. I just have to give it some love. They really did an amazing job yesterday despite the heat, people came out and watched an honored members of the military from around the world and members of our military up in the sky with an air show, a tall boat parade of boats, and then culminating with the fireworks.

They had four barges on the east and people were looking at those beautiful fireworks, and I was getting pictures from my daughter, Ava was having a party in Brooklyn, and they could see all of those fireworks. But the Brooklyn Bridge became, unfortunately a light show of its own.

Yes, folks, the Brooklyn Bridge, according to the fire wooden was on fire. The bridge was on fire. A lot of folks here for the World Cup dressed in red, white and blue with Uncle Sam hats and like really going to town with just kind of celebrating America who weren't even born here.
